By ‘sunset cruise’ we imagined slow, relaxed, roomy cruising with ample opportunities to appreciate the sunset and take photos. What we got was an overcrowded boat where we were told to sit like sardines in order to fit more people on. This just made everyone angrier and angrier with each group of newcomers. It’s a money grab, but probably great if you’re in your 20s or 30s. Think twice though if you’re 40s/50s/60s.

Our guide made us feel taken care of and made sure to get beautiful pictures and videos. Company was very communicative before pick up. That is probably the highlight of booking with Charisma. The tour was shorter than expected and took a while to get started while filling the boat. May be better to negotiate a sunset cruise on the beach!
Outstanding experience from pickup at my hotel to drop off at the end of the night. An authentic experience with amazing songs and spectacular views. Kateeb did everybody from assist in embarking, to raising/lowering the sail, to bring the first to jump in the water. I highly recommend. Asante 🙏
The ride was supposed to be for 4 hours, it was 1h long. The boat was extremely full. The refreshments were 0/10. There was hardly any seasonal fruit. However, the people on the boat were nice and festive. They made the ride fun.
What an experience. Honestly highly recommend!! from greeting to goodbye vibe and energy:- 5 out 5. 👌🏿 Thank you.
Very accommodating to help with questions or issues with joining the boat. Of course it is Ramadan and to respect the local culture there are no drums or music so go another time if this doesn’t suit you. For us it was peaceful and low season so not cramped. Even if it were I wouldn’t complain considering these boats are part of Zanzibar’s history and carried far more human trade during the 19th century so would ponder on that instead.
DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR! If you see a boat named “mama Mia” cancel it immediately! Unless you want the most disappointing, boring, lacklustre sunset cruise. Boring entertainment, NO ALCOHOL, the smallest speaker you can think of as “entertainment”. I paid DOUBLE what most people paid, DO NOT PAY MORE THAN $15, negotiate with the guys on the beach and don’t book this tour on trip advisor. Of course unless you enjoy disappointment. Going to email trip advisor to remove this tour. ❌mamma Mia❌
This was fun! What an experience! Started out with about 15 on the boat, but more and more boats came and loaded more passengers on. Had close to 100 when all was said and done.
Amazing Experience calm and relaxing tour with nice local songs and nice sea breeze Nice staff refresh tropical fruits was given also Totally recommended
Accommodating to get additional passengers on board (ie small motors were continually joining us to drop off passengers for the cruise). We had between 40 and 50 on board and all cramped. The cruise itself was much less than 2hrs and we were back before sunset (though in fairness it was overcast). Refreshments consisted of pineapple and watermelon and some form of crisps.
We set off under motor from MamaMia’s at Nungwi Beach. The crew were accommodating and had offered to pick us up at our accommodation which was a 20min walk further to the south on Kendwa beach. We waited about 20-30mins after the departure time, which for us was 1600, for a few more passengers to fill the boat before setting off with a total of between 40-50 persons onboard which made it a little too cosy for comfort. Live traditional music was played in sessions during the trip accompanied by fresh fruit, alcoholic beverages were offered at a cost. Once away from the beaches, the Dohw’s sail, which had a few holes, was hoisted and we sailed parallel with the coast for about 20 mins before turning back under sail affording views of the sunset from both sides and also, the skyline of the West coast of Zanzibar. The captain then offered a drop off at Kendwa beach which due to the size of the vessel, involved getting a little wet although the crew were helpful.
The cruise was ok but the way they crammed beyond in was a joke. We were on the upper deck and other than the space my bum was occupying, there was not any room at all. When the sun started setting everyone was shuffling about swapping places to try and get a photo. The crew were singing and playing instruments which was enjoyable but due to the space, it was difficult to join in. Crew sold beer and soft drinks plus some ready made cocktails, some people took their own drinks. The boat stopped for people to jump in (aka go to the loo in the sea) then sailed back. It was fine, but just too crowded.
Great experience, worth every penny. The owner was well organised, he contacted me the day before to confirm booking, time, pickup and snack preferences. Great communication. The host Mr Khateeb is a polite young man, great host and knowledgeable. Highly recommend. The cruise itself was satisfying, almost 3hrs long so there's plenty of time to enjoy it. They also have onboard entertainment in the form of drumming and singing
We took a traditional wooden Dow boat from the Nungwei beach. It was an incredible experience as we enjoyed live music, a sunset view and a relaxing journey along the west coast of the island. I would happily do it again.
This sunset cruise was so nice. The drumming, the scenery, and the fresh fruit were all so amazing! My tour guide Khateeb was so kind! I highly recommend taking this cruise. The water was so blue and beautiful!
This was great! Very beautiful, fun, and lots of good info. The swim at sunset was the best part, and they made sure that we had an enjoyable time. Would definitely do it again!
Good views and great atmosphere! Favorite part was when we could jump off the roof of the boat in the water. Everything matched description.
Best excursion !! And best guide !! Musicians on fire ! People enjoying and we have a good time. I recommend ! Best sunset ever thank you so much
#thisiszanzibar… Our tour guide was outstanding and professional. He went out his way to provide some history as well while on the cruise!!! I would definitely recommend this tour as well as the guide!!!
Lovely view and the cruise was very. Great with nice views it was worth the price,I would recommend if you want to relax and have fun,try this sunset cruise and you won’t regret
I was at the meeting Point at 15:30, like it said in the confirmation email. When I asked about the Tour and the Tour Operator, nobody knew who the Tour Operator was. I asked about 5 people. I feel scammed and just threw away 30$. Thank you very much.
My guide was very friendly, however, this tour is highly overpriced. This is a group boat ride with multiple other people and other groups. Booking it on this site is unnecessary because you can book it for less than half the price at your hotel or on the beach. It was myself, my guide, and about fifty other people on the boat. Having a guide was very unnecessary. The experience was good and the vibe was nice, I would just recommend you book it once you arrive to your accommodation in Nungwi. There are several options, and I saw the average price was about $15 for the same exact experience that I had.
It was a nice cruise with a view of the sunset. The guide willingly attended to us and took care of us. I can recommend it for me, although I would recommend it for someone who likes quieter and more boring activities without adrenaline.
We had a fantastic time on the Zanzibar Dhow Evening Sunset Cruise! Our guide, Charisma, made the experience even more memorable by providing delicious snacks and refreshing water throughout the cruise. The highlight was watching the breathtaking sunset while a local band played drums, creating the perfect atmosphere for a peaceful and relaxing ride. Charisma’s warm and welcoming personality made us feel right at home, and the thoughtful touches like the snacks and live music really enhanced the overall experience. If you’re looking for a serene and beautiful way to end your day in Zanzibar, we highly recommend this sunset cruise—especially with Charisma as your guide!
Charisma was a great guide--very friendly and professional! We had fun group of folks on the boat. We enjoyed live music, drinks, conversation, swimming, and of course the amazing sunset! Highly recommended!
I didn't know what to expect when I booked this but this sunset cruise was one of the best memories of my recent trip to Tanzania. Charisma was a great guide and was also very friendly and professional. On the cruise we had a fun group of folks from around the world. We enjoyed live music, drinks, swimming, and of course the amazing sunset. Highly recommended!
It's already the second time we go, beautiful sea, peace, there is so much poverty but they are always smiling, the annoying beach boys but if you do not listen to them leave you in peace.Put in your suitcase everything you can bring to the children, sweaters shoes games and good holiday
If you are looking for a romantic sunset tour for two, this is the wrong place. Here you can enjoy the sunset together with 50 other participants and music accompaniment.
We were received by a friendly man. He bought us food and drinks and took us on the boat. Music was played here and there was a cozy atmosphere! All in all a nice and beautiful experience.
