I have just completed 25 scuba diving trips in the north and south of Zanzibar and I only saw one turtle. I found out this is because they have all been stollen from the sea and put in various aquariums around the island and used for profit. Some of these aquariums say they are all about conservation and charge a lot of money to see them. They even charge people to help release they. The turtles will be caught again and put back in the aquariums. I asked at the door of the Nungwi aquarium if I can go in and swim with them, they said you can do what you like with them. I was so shocked by this, I never went in. I met Chinese tourists on the beach collecting seaweed to feed the turtles. These people paid a lot of money to be with the turtles and to release some on a certain date. If you love turtles please do not go in these so called turtle sanctuarys. Go see them in the sea where they belong. Your money is paying for them to be imprisoned.
The experience appears like it could be nice but they do not moderate how many people go at each time slot. We went at 12 and it was crowded and chaotic. We waited a long time and then people kept yelling and overreacting in the water. There is only one way in/out of the cave and one stair case in/out of the water and it was not managed well. People throw their seaweed food and if it floats to close to you, you could get bit. We did not stay long and did not enjoy it but the turtles are beautiful.
You get to Salaam caves, they give you seaweed, and you go down steps into the caves where there are turtles in the water, you get in the water with them and you hand feed them the seaweed, It’s great fun but you only have 30 mins with them which goes by to quick, try to get there early before to many people turn up, When you come out there is changing facilities and a shower so you can change your clothes which is good. Also shop and restaurant there to have a drink and take in the views,
Our excursion guide was on time and very pleasant. He pointed out different sites during our ride to the caves and explained what to expect.
Thanks a lot for mohammad ali .. he was perfect with us .. all of us we enjoy this trip it was amazing .. I hope to come back again next year inshallah.
The beauty of nature. A wonder from Zanzibar. Fun and exciting. It's fun seeing the tortoise swimming and dancing round you while feeding them with the sea weeds. Clean water is a beautiful sight. The chirping of the birds cohabiting the cave with the tortoises add some extra layers of beautiful sounds.
A unique and enjoyable experience. A great opportunity to get up close to some beautiful turtles. Your given seaweed to feed to them as part of entrance price, showers and toilets are available for use. Beware steps down to the cave are steep and narrow worth considering if you have mobility issues. The decking area in the cave can get crowed and busy but isn’t a huge issue. Numbers management and getting up and down the steps is slightly chaotic again not a significant issue.
Easy to book and great communication. Picked us up and dropped us off from our hotel in Kiwengwa with no issues, definitely recommend!! Turtles were great, not too crowded and entry is included in the ticket.
Well maintained area with turtles 🐢 an baby fish Awesome time spent with this beautiful gods creation Very naughty at times as likes to bites
It’s very peaceful and beautiful! The staff is amazing and kind! It has a spa and restaurant as well.
Magical experience! We followed the advice of a reviewer's recommendation to book early. We arrived at 08h00 and had the full hour and 30 minutes to ourselves before more people arrived. No photo can justify the serenity of this place. The premises itself is well kept, the staff really cares about nature and keeping it to the natural state. I can highly recommend the Maalum Ritual after the cave slot at the Spa. Such a spoil and highlight to our trip!
This was an unexpected delight. You have to book your time slot beforehand as the slot are limited due to the size of the cave. Basically you go to swim in a cave pool for 90min. The water is super refreshing, there are some fish and crabs, and it's all in all really beautiful. A super relaxing experience - highly recommend.
Kuza cave was really amazing, it's good to swim in there where clean fresh water is, the swimming is nice because also the water was warm and relaxing. I highly recommend it.
We went to Kuza Cave with friends, the cave was perfect as natural swimming pool with clear fresh water, it is really nice swimming in there. I highly recommend this trip.
Kuza cave visits was one of the best choice we made in Zanzibar, the swimming was perfect, the water was natural fresh water and warm, it's the best place for relaxing and refreshing minds while slowly swimming. Highly recommended.
Kuza Cave Zanzibar was an amazing, refreshing, and surreal experience. The fresh water was soothing and a nice change from the salt water in the beaches. When we arrived, we were 2 of 4 people in the water so it was peaceful and allowed us to explore the cave and water spaces freely and find spots where we truly felt alone. The blues and greens reflected on the walls and in the water were beautiful and such a treat.
Amazing natural cave, nice ride from the driver, very patient and informative tour guide. Good experience swimming in the natural swimming pool with pure clean water. I highly recommend this trip.
I am glad I chose this trip to Cuza cave. It's amazing swimming in underground clear water. Feeling very happy and relaxed. it was good to contact Mo who made this trip one of the best options to us.
Mo advised us to visit Kuza Cave, at first I was not interested in getting to the cave but my wife was. Do we went there and see this cave, it's so astonishing that from underground there is poor fresh water where you can swim and feel warm. This experience was the best ending of our package. From this cave you can without doubt swim if you take swimming shoes with you. Also there is a good history about old people. It is absolutely highly recommend to book this trip with Mo.
Went with my 10 y old son he loved it it was like an adventure for him it’s like a seen from a move , get your swim shoes and googles it’s very natural and you will love every moment adult cost 10$ kids 5$ entrance fees , there is a place to change your cloths but it’s not very clean , there is toilet but also not very clean .but again the cave experience is Waw.
Uninteresting. Just a cave with some water. You can swim but it isn’t a great experience. And 10 dollars per person is a theft.
It is probably a different place from the famous Turtle Aquarium. There seem to be many similar aquariums. However, I was able to feed the sea turtles and swim with them, so I did the same thing. Admission fee is 10 USD or 25,000 Tanzanian shillings. You can't get a ticket, but if you pay, you can be admitted to the aquarium. There are toilets, changing rooms, showers, and wash sinks. The toilet cannot be flushed with a button; it is the type where you scoop and flush with a bucket. There was toilet paper in the restroom. Since you can get quite close to them, I think you should go to the sea turtle aquarium when you come to Zanzibar. However, I felt the facilities were not as good as the price suggested. After about 30 minutes, I thought I was good. I don't know if it will be resolved at other aquariums, but it was fun, though a little expensive, and I thought, "I'm good with just coming once."
The attraction is to go down very narrow stairs to a small cave where there are some turtles. The space is tiny and is shared with about twenty people who crowd to get into the water. The situation seemed disrespectful to me and the turtles appeared clearly disturbed. I went straight back up: in my opinion this is a real case of animal abuse. I don't understand how this place can be so famous, when even a simple zoo would guarantee better conditions.
Very nice to see the turtles! But it didn't feel right, when we heard they were trapped and saw so many people go into the water and feed and touch them. So this itself did not go!
I visited the turtle sanctuary and it was a nice experience, but not entirely satisfying. The turtles are divided into three pools and the most engaging part is definitely the fact that you can go into the water with them. Seaweeds are provided to give to the turtles, so they get very close and swim all around, making the moment suggestive. That said, it’s fair to point out that some people have been bitten, probably from food-related excitement, so a little attention is needed. What also puzzled me the most is that turtles are not in a natural environment, but in an artificial space created by man, which takes away some of the authenticity of the experience. Overall it is an interesting visit, especially for those who want close contact with turtles, but personally I expected something more natural.
You get to a place where there are a lot of people queuing up to go down very narrow stairs and reach a cave where there are quite a few turtles. In my opinion, you captivate, inside a natural pool and share a very small space with 20:00 to 30 people who push to reach the water. I personally felt sorry for the poor turtles. I certainly didn’t pay to go down to see those turtles and went to the Hotel thinking it was still a joke, in fact, in my opinion, this is a case of animal abuse. I can't understand that this attraction has such fame when any zoo would have the animals in better shape.
It was a very great event and very well organized .Also the round trip transport. The turtles are beautiful
A truly horrible experience as a defender of animal rights and against their abuse. Many people complained that more turtles had bitten them, a normal reaction if they are stressed in a small pool full of people. Moreover, the team working there is aggressive and rude.
We were a bit disappointed at first when we saw a small natural pool with many people among the turtles. Personal contact with the Schildies, including feeding, was then really an unforgettable experience. We were in the south of the island. You would have actually gotten there with the rental car and could have parked calmly. The journey was more expensive than the entrance fee.
For the price paid for experience and time, in my opinion, the satisfaction is median. I was expecting a little more. The place was crowded with people, which damaged the experience.
The excursion was really great. An unforgettable day of swimming with turtles and feeding them
Small advice do not take with you the seaweed in the water to feed the Turtles, risk getting bitten, better to do it from above. Just turn them over when she comes to you so she doesn't let them get too close and risk getting bitten.
Our visit to Salaam Cave in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, was an absolute highlight of our trip. This natural cave offers the rare opportunity to swim with sea turtles in their protected environment – an experience that is especially suitable for children who are good at swimming and are not afraid of animals. What makes Salaam Cave special? ✅ Natural environment The cave is located in Kizimkazi Dimbani and impresses with its crystal clear waters where sea turtles live in a protected environment. The ambience is unique and feels like a secret lagoon. ✅ Swimming with sea turtles Here you have the opportunity to swim directly with the turtles, observe them and even feed them. The animals are used to humans and move relaxed through the water – a great experience for all nature lovers! ✅ Education & conservation Salaam Cave is not only a fascinating excursion destination, but also a sanctuary for sea turtles. The guides explain a lot about their way of life, dangers from pollution and how to help protect these impressive animals. ✅ Friendly care & good organization The staff is very welcoming and makes sure all guests feel comfortable. The tour is well organized, and care is taken to ensure that the handling of the turtles remains respectful. Notes for visitors: Swimming skills required: Since the water in the cave is deep, visitors should be able to swim safely. For children it is especially important that they feel comfortable in open water. Bring your own snorkeling equipment: To enjoy the experience to the full, it may be worth having your own mask and snorkel. Respectful handling of animals: The turtles should not be harassed or held – they move towards the visitors on their own, and rather they are still to be turned away cautiously. Conclusion: Visiting Salaam Cave is a unique experience that perfectly combines adventure, education and conservation. Especially for families with swimming-loving children, it is a wonderful way to experience the fascinating world of sea turtles up close. An absolute must for anyone visiting Zanzibar!
Great experience. Turtles are just sublime and nice. You can do the excursion 30 minutes or 1 hour. We chose the 30 minutes option and it was more than enough. You can pay with credit card and dollars. We paid 25$ for 2 or 12€ per person approximately. Understand, the pass to go down to the cave, as well as a small bin with salad to feed the turtles. If you are respectful think that the dress code is different from that of Europe. For the respect of the inhabitants, it is better to wear stockings that cover the legs down to below the knees for men and women + shoulders covered for us ladies. We went there on our own (we were at Lalaland Lodge, which is about 5 km walk away).
Magnifique c'est une occasion unique de nager avec les tortues marine et les nourrir par la même occasion
Actually we wanted to visit another cave, but our guide "Klausi" recommended this one to us. She wouldn't be so overflowing and very beautiful. He didn't promise too much. We were on site in the morning of a day tour and loved it. It is located in a private hotel complex, looks very inconspicuous from the outside and the approach is very bumpy. But you will be surprised with a beautiful little natural wonder. A bath provided cooling and we enjoyed the tranquility. Those who are nearby should treat themselves to a visit. Since the bottom is sometimes very rocky, bathing shoes are appropriate.
Super delicious and cozy place where you can swim in fresh water, eat in a cozy cafe and relax in hangings. You borrow swimwear and swim mask and have 1.5 hours in the water. You have to book a time slot so there are not too many in the water. You can see less fish. Can only be recommended
A very beautiful cave with crystal clear water and wonderful rocks. Theoretically you can swim in the water, and they offer that, but in such countries you should avoid any freshwater for swimming, as there are often worms etc. in it (even if you can't see them)
I thought better, perhaps because we arrived on a cloudy day, the 10 euro entrance fee is not repaid
