This is a walking tour in a small town where history appears to stand still. At the end of our stay in Zanzibar, we wanted to organise a bespoke private tour of Stone Town to include hotel pick-up and airport drop off with our luggage. Muhammed was an amazing guide! He studied tourism and answer all of our questions about the beautiful stonetown! He even picked out a great restaurant for hs to eat lunch and we were able to stop at gift shops! Amazing tour!
Everything was well organized. We booked 3 days with Motours. First day spicefarm and Stonetown. Second day sunset on the boat and third day kwale island with snorkeling and a perfect seafood lunch. Our guide knew everything about Stonetown and toke us to all the special places. Nice to have a private guide.

What a great way to experience Zanzibar when pressed for time and unsure where to start. Mohamed met us near the ferry and spirited us around the sights of Stone City, including the old fort, colonial buildings, Freddy Mercury’s residence, the spice/fish/fruit market, and more, recounting the island’s history and culture along the way. Winding through the narrow alleys, we covered a lot of ground in three hours and had time for shopping too. Climbing ancient stairs (elevator also available) to the rooftop terrace of the Swahili Inn was a special treat for a birds-eye view of the city and a cold drink. We also had time for a delicious lunch at an open air cafe under a baobab tree. Highly recommend this half-day tour with Mohamed as a guide!
The walk was ok. Guide helped me to buy item I needed. But generally not interested to talk to, or motivated to show a lot. We did not even pass by Freddy Mercury house. The gift shop he took me to was horrible, nothing to buy. All other small shops were much better, and I was entering alone to see what is there, he did not like me to do so.
Wow! What a great way to experience and learn about Zanzibar city, specifically Stonestown. Muhammad Ali is an excellent tour guide; he is a Zanzibar native, with an excellent mind bank of information about culture and history of Zanzibar. I learned so much about the different and varied cultural influences tied into the architecture, religious structures, society etc throughout the city and region. We walked throughout Stonestown, and he took me to cultural and historic sites, describing in detail the history of each location, and was kind to bring me into any store to see the amazing artistic and antique options in the city. If you have specific interests, he is happy to oblige. I went on the tour as a single female, and at all times I felt comfortable with his steady and grounded guidance. The walking tour is great, very interesting and you lear a lot in just two hours arround the old town. Our guide was also great, he knew a lot and talked in very interesting way, also answerd all the questions we had during the walk. Would recoment to take the tour with them.
