Highly recommend!! So glad I got to experience this before leaving Zanzibar. David, who guided us around, was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about Maasai culture and traditions and even learned some words in their (Maa) language. Really fun and interactive visit. Very cool to see the houses, get to wear the traditional clothes and see the Maasai dance in action along with joining in. Thank you so much David, the boys and women & children for an amazing day.

This was such a wonderful experience to learn about the Maasai culture and way of life. Our Maasai guide was so open and welcoming and in addition to educating us about Maasai, gave us lots of opportunities to ask questions as well. His English was easy to understand and he understood everything we asked him as well. No one hassled us for money and we weren’t pressured to buy anything so if you might be hesitant to visit because of that, it wasn’t an issue at all. I would encourage anyone visiting the area to plan a trip here to learn about the Maasai.
Very informative. If you are curious about others culture then this is for you. Very well explained. The guide was patient and the people were kind.
David was polite and incredibly knowledgeable. His English was fantastic and showed us the ways of the Maasai tribe. A great experience
An excellent experience and the people were hugely friendly and welcoming. We would definitely recommend to those who visit Zanzibar and want to learn about other cultures.
We had a wonderful time at Maasai World! It was a truly enriching cultural experience filled with new information and insights. The dancing was especially fun, and we really enjoyed joining in with the Maasai people. One of the highlights of our visit was meeting Dawood, the elder of the community. He has an incredible personality — wise, engaging, and full of knowledge. This was definitely one of the most enjoyable and memorable experiences for me and my family. Highly recommended!
This was such an amazing experience! Our guide David was very knowledgeable about the history of the Maasai and how they have developed over time. It was great to be immersed in the activities of the people and learn their way of life. Will definitely recommend this tour if you're in Tanzania.
5/5 we thoroughly enjoyed this tour. All the guides were informative, easy to follow and friendly. It was nice to do some everyday Maasai activities (interactive). It was great to have the tour as just our family group and then join in at the end with other groups to see the iconic Maasai jump and singing. The duration was perfect.
The Maasai World tour was a great gateway to learn about the Maasai culture and traditions. The tour took 1 hr and was very structured. The tour guide and the guy at entrance were very welcoming and made sure to explain everything about their language (Maa), culture, marriage traditions, costumes, lifestyle, tribal beliefs, and food. They also performed a song and a dance that were very vibrant and fun. By the end of the tour, there is a place to buy souvenirs made by the tribe members. I’d recommend buying an item or two for support to their community.
Our group of 10 journalists and professional friends enjoyed the visit and appreciated both the education and the entertainment when we went in June 2023. We had such an enjoyable experience that a smaller group of us have booked a visit there again when we travel to Zanzibar in a few days (June 2024). We highly recommend this experience.
This was interactive, fun and educational. I definitely learned a lot and all my questions were answered. I recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning and experiencing a different culture.
A pleasant and instructive tour. The tribe's guide was up to the task. He introduced me to the culture of the Masai tribe in a simple and interesting way.
Very educational 2 hours where you learn a lot about past Maasai practives and how the Maasai culture evolved over the years (sometimes with government pressure). They add some archery practice and Maasai dances to make the experience more fun. The entry price seems to be a bit dynamic and is advertised as USD$20. After the tour you get a chance to buy hand-made Maasai accessories but some bargaining is recommended!
Had a great time! Nicely explained and it worth the price. Thank you all for that day! Will recommend it to my friends!
Amazing experience.. they take you through their history and they explain their culture and life to you. You can dance with them and wear their costumes.
David was an amazing host. He spoke about how the Maasai tribe, their culture, history and lifestyle. He showed us their housing and some of their daily activities. It was an amazing and humbling experience learning about their tribe. Must visit the Maasai world if you visit Zanzibar!
Our group of 10 travelers from the U.S. thoroughly enjoyed this visit. Though it was a little ominous traveling the final leg of the trip up lonely and bumpy dirt roads in a very rural area, it was worth it. The Maasai welcomed us warmly and taught us much about their culture on a guided tour that included a history lesson, introduction to their unique language, a fire-starting demonstration, dressing us in their tribal attire, a ritual dance performed by the Maasai men, and lessons on how to shoot at a target with their bows. We were there the third week of June and the weather was perfect.
Such an amazing experience. I booked a local cab to transport me to Maasai world. They are very informative and friendly. They put me in a costume, we danced and learned about the history of the Maasai. Would definitely recommend.
Maasai World prides itself on being a cultural centre, teaching others about Maasai culture and providing a base for Maasai to connect to their culture. It is a difficult road to navigate, both getting there and learning about culture without imposing. David works hard to explain many facets of culture - language, tools, clothing, ceremonies, housing, family structure and the impacts of modern life. Other Maasai community members help dress visitors in traditional clothing, have a try at traditional archery and demonstrate how to light a fire - truly impressive. A highlight is a traditional dancing demonstration by the whole group. Visitors are welcome to go into the very low mud house to see how families live. Finally, there is a collection of traditional beaded jewellery for sale.
Fantastic tour, which gives insight into the life of the Maasai. David was a very friendly and helpful guide with good english. Informative, interesting, and interactive, so even children will enjoy it, nobody should miss it. Thank you for the amazing experience!
Maasai World was the best part of Zanzibar! I have been watching documentaries on The Maasai for over a decade, and it was a real treat to meet the women and men up close and personal to learn first-hand about their culture and heritage. Honestly, I felt proud to be descended from Africa! Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn about The Maasai!!!
Now this was fun ! And very informative! David ( our guide ) told us all about history and present life of Maasai people. Some information about their life are not easy to digest by western minds but he doesn’t hide anything. You will learn a lot of small details and you can ask all the questions you want. My favorite information I learned was that the beads what Maasai people use for their jewelry is from Czech ! As a Czech girl that made me proud 😁 I would highly recommend this since you see Maasai all around Zanzibar but this tour explains why they are there and what’s their life. Thank you David ! Barbora from Czech
We got out of our hotel grabbed a cab and drove to Maasai world. When we arrived Olle ( david ) the always smiling Maasai guide showed us great hospitality wich started with a big smile en a heart warming welcome He provided us with a 1.5 tour through the Maasai Culture and traditions. He explained everything and gave us the time to ask our questions. We had a great time at Maasai World in Zanzibar and recommand it highly. ASHE !! ( thank you )
Today we decided to go on our own instead of with a guide. We took a taxi to the Maasai World and that became a highlight of my visit to Zanzibar. On the beach we come into contact with the Maasai every day, their clothing, friendliness and especially their smile attracts attention. What beautiful people they are. So interesting also how they live and who they are. The Maasai World is without a doubt a place that must be visited on a vacation to Zanzibar.
We are second time in Zanzibar and I can not realise how we could miss to visit this place before. It is definitely worth visiting this place. You can see how they live, enter their house, see how a fire is lit with a stick, dress up like them and take a picture for memory, dance with them and many, many other interesting things. Thanks to our guide Khamis Salumi and thanks to David, our host, it was an unforgettable experience! 🫶🏻🥰❤️
A wonderful trip where we learned a lot about the Massai culture and their way of life. Our guide David explained everything and it was a lot of fun for us to learn how to throw a bow and arrow, and to dance local dances. We also had the opportunity to try Massai medicine that they prepared (for our stomach). It was very tasty and aromatic. I even bought some to bring home! The only thing I have to say is that you can see that the other Massai people who participated in the tour did not like it very much and wanted to be somewhere else. But other than that, a great tour for us!
Knowledge about Masai lifestyle in general and how they keep themselves healthy , Changes in today lifestyle I have a good experience and knowledge about Masai I enjoy being in their place thank you. To advice family and friends to visit them when traveling to Zanzibar
I’ve always wanted to see masaai and learn more about their culture.. on my trip to Zanzibar weeks back , I had to add it on my bucket list.if am not mistaken, David was his name , he welcomed me and made me felt like I was reconnecting with my long lost family.. what an experience 😭🥰..I will forever hold that experience in my life.I highly recommend that if you planning your trip to Zanzibar visit masaai world.10/10 would definitely love to visit again
That was a really great trip. We have learned a lot about the history and culture of the Maasai. Our guide Michael was very nice and responded to us and made sure that we feel comfortable and understood everything. The Maasai family was also very hospitable. Highly recommended! 10/10
5/5 this place was amazing. The people are so friendly. I love seeing the culture. It was so fun experiencing new culture
I had a few hours to spare so nipped down to Masai World on the island of Zanzibar. What an amazing experience I had learning about the history of the Masai and also getting to try my hand at archery. David was a fantastic Masai guide who made me feel so welcome and happily answered any questions I had. I would highly recommend visiting here if you have 2 hours to spare!
For those who plan to visit Zanzibar it is MUST to add in your tours, to learn history and experience MAASAI WORLD. I am super thrilled, happy to know and meet Maasai people they are nice, friendly and hospitable. Thanks to Mikael who become our guide.
A great way of spending a few hours away from the beach. Interesting to learn about the history of the Maasai and to be able to participate in a dance and high jumping competition 😁 The guide Michael was a sweet guy!
A fantastic and fascinating experience diving deep into Maasai history and customs. My family loved it. I would highly recommend the experience.
For those who visit Zanzibar, I highly recommend visiting Maasai World. It is a maasai village with a museum on the outskirts. Here we can get to know their lives and get answers to all our questions. Very nice people. Aki Zanzibáron jár annak nagyon ajánlom a Maasai World meglátogatását. Ez egy maszály falu, aminek a szélén egy múzeumot rendeztek be. Itt megismerkedhetünk az életükkel és minden kérdésünkre választ kaphatunk. Nagyon kedves emberek.
The maasai world it is a must see for those who were not been in the main land but would like to learn more about maasai. The tour is perfect and the maasai are very polite, nice, well educated and welcoming.
Super interesting place allowing to deepdive into Maasai culture and traditions. Very friendly people, good entertainment. 2 hours passed too fast. Would recommend to visit this place.
A great and fun way to familiarize with the Maasai culture while in Zanzibar. The staff were very friendly too.
Educational excursion on the Maasai Maasai villages can be found in Tanzania and Kenya
Full explanations of the guide, tour that takes 1 hour, people are super welcoming and we can learn more about Maasai
we had a pleasant time, clear explanation, we learned a lot about their culture. We were able to try on their traditional outfit and dance with them Recommend
Rich culture and an unforgettable experience, lots of memories..., very welcoming and friendly people
Very nice home. We learned a lot about Maasai culture and traditions through some activities. I think it is an experience to do when you visit Zanzibar or Tanzania.
The visit was rich in discovering Maasai culture. The on-site guide explained how his people function and how they evolve in today’s society! It was very interesting and partly fun for the children
Very good and interesting. Our kids were so happy. We are so grateful for everything. David as a guide was very good.
We missed the visit to Maasai village in Ngorongoro. But our great guide took us to Maasai word in zanzibar. We were very well received, surprised because the visit was beyond our expectations. A guided tour with clear explanations of customs and habits. Between the visit of the Maasai house, fire, dance and clothes we spent a very rich moment of sharing. I recommend without hesitation
A village that brings together the Maasai who left the continent in search of work. Here you listen to their history, customs from birth to death, enter a Maasai house, discover their inimitable dances. See the rites of marriage, tools and weapons for hunting. Practically hunt the lion with a single bamboo stick While waiting to enter the village in Tanzania, it was a nice experience that I recommend.
Welcoming very nice, we learned a lot and the chef took the time to explain Maasai life and customs. We were dressed in traditional outfits and we saw a dance.
Maasai World presents an interesting and well-designed exhibition on history and culture. Visitors are given a guided tour by a Maasai, and everything is explained and shown very vividly. You can also immerse yourself in the Maasai world, for example by playing archery or dancing. My tour guide, Michael, spoke very good English and answered all my many questions in detail. I liked everything very much, and it gave me a really great insight into the Maasai life. One of the best exhibitions of its kind I have seen in a long time. I can highly recommend the visit!
David the village guide is very kind and explains many things. The inhabitants of the village too , I got a picture with them in Masai uniform as well as a dance. I recommend!
