A brilliant trip and so well balanced, we got picked up by Karim in a very comfortable vehicle from Riu Jambo to take us to Stone Town where we got onto our boat to the beautiful Nakupenda for a swim and a delicious seafood lunch, just perfect! We then went across to Prison Island, our guide was amazing and very respectful to the environment and the giant tortoises. We then went to stone town and another brilliant guide, who pointed out all the best places and super personalised to for what you need. A great tour and another comfortable journey back with Karim. I would highly recommend 👌

At Prison Island, you will able to See Aldabra Giant Tortoise, Peacocks, Dik-dik (species of small Antelope), Prison ruins, etc. An interesting fact about the Aldabra Giant tortoise is that they can live for more than 200 years. The Oldest one at Prison Island is 197 years old. They are one of the world's longest-living animals. Prison Ruins: This is a building that was erected in 1983 to host the Central Prison of Zanzibar. The Jail construction Started in 1893, In the same year, They had been a Cholera Epidemic in Egypt, and shortly afterward Bubonic Plague in Bombay. Since Zanzibar was the Main East African Port, Authorities decided That the Prison and other Erected Buildings were to keep in readiness as a Quarantine Station to proper control measures for vessels and their passengers to avoid the risk of an Epidemic in the Zanzibar Archipelago.
Nakupenda is a name given to a Sand Bank that is located nearby the StoneTown, after the Prison Island trip we will go to Nakupenda Sand Bank where you will relax, swim and do Snorkeling. Stone Town is well known for its architecture (Buildings and narrow streets) also is one of the oldest cities in Africa and a former Trading destination in East Africa. This tour was fantastic and very worthwhile! I would say it’s probably worth skipping prison island as not much to do there. Nakupenda was absolutely the highlight and our captain Ibrahim was fantastic and super fun to be around. He did an amazing job on the bbq on Nakupenda and there was an abundance of food with a really amazing selection of sea foods and tropical fruits. The tour of stone town was interesting. Sayid was very knowledgable and gave us a lot of information about the history. Nakupenda sandbank was 100% the star of the tour, you must visit it during your trip to Zanzibar!
Salum was very informative, prompt and eager to help. He, along with those that helped us made us feel safe and made our experience a great one! I recommend this company. Swan
What a great excursion. Prison Island, Nakaupenda and Stone Town. Hamed and his two colleagues gave us a great tour. Nothing was too much for them. The food was amazing and Hamed's knowledge of the area was first class. Would highly reccommend Sultan Tours.
We enjoyed our trip with Sultan Tours. The tour was us and one other couople. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed the sea food buffet stop on Nakupenda. If you plan to swim there, bring your own snorkel gear to see the reefs, snorkel gear is not included in the tour. My only feedback is that I would suggest doing the stone town tour earlier in the day, and the Prison Island / Nakupenda stops 2nd. It's hard to pay attention to a super informative and interesting tour while sandy and sunburned from a beach day. Sultan also offers very reasonably priced private car service to/from the airport. Much better rates than what the hotels and local taxi companies were offering.
We really enjoyed our full day tour with a personalized look at Prison Island and its inhabitants. The boat captain even let us drive for a while! The beach at Nakupenda was wonderful with plenty of space and fun snorkeling, plus lunch was delicious. Abdul lead us on a walking tour around Stone Town, balancing history and fun facts during a relaxing walk.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Prison Island and especially Nakupenda. The seafood lunch was the best part. Our tour guide Ali, was the best! I also loved the history of Stonetown and Zanzibar; it was a very informative tour.
Throughly enjoyed this from start to finish. Was so organised and all the tour guides assigned to us were so helpful, nice and entertaining. They taught us some of the language and culture. Highly recommend :) Food was good too!
The crew to Prison Island and Nakupenda did not speak English. We therefore have missed all the information about the sites, which was supposed to be explained by the team notably regarding the history of Prison Island. The guide to Stone Town spoke English and was very kind. However, the tour in the city was short and we felt dissatisfied with the depth of information given to us in the tour.
The prison island tour was very informative. The snorkeling portion was just a trip to a beach, though. Our guide was friendly and helpful, and lunch was delicious.
Guide to Stonetown was great! But boatride with some bored kids is not recommendable… Do this only early morning!
Amazing experience and definitely worth the money if one is in Zanzibar! Everything from the driver, the car, the lunch and our kind tour and captains. And of course the sights were incredible, especially Nakupenda with its breathtaking clear waters. Would recommend the Sultan Tours 10/10!
Ahmed, Saeed and the other members of the team were absolutely amazing! Helpful, professional and entertaining this was such a fantastic trip and one we will never forget. You are totally in control of the whole day and the team can’t do enough for you. They are so friendly and kept us laughing all day. Can’t recommend them enough, Ahmed taught me some Swahili too which was great and it was a pleasure to get to know him and Saeed. Ahmed is a great photographer too I wish I could have had him stay with us all holiday to take our photos🤣! Take advantage of this if you can! Asante sana!
The private tour is really worth it because you get to see the "must to visit" in one day. Everything is well organized and the staff are really good listener and adapt to the clients requirements :) I did it solo but I believe the trip to nakupenda is more suitable with a friend or a romantic partner
This tour is a must. Preferably not in final days of your holiday. The team is a perfect match of flexible professionals and knowledgeable hosts.
I enjoyed the day. Appreciated the 3 in 1 because I only spent 2 days in Stone Town. I highly recommend. The guides were amazing.
Great tour! You see a lot for one day, a perfect overview of Zanzibar. Akmed was friendly and engaging, and also knew a lot about the area and the history and culture. The tour of Stone Town and all of its nooks and crannies was perfect also. I enjoy history and read a lot about it and the guide was knowledgeable, friendly and able to answer most of my questions. Often you will find with city tours that the guide has memorized a script and sometimes is passing incorrect information. This was an exceptional tour both for the islands we visited and the tour of the city. Akmed went out of his way to make sure the trip was enjoyable. Thanks guys!
The trip was interesting, everything was as described. The best part of the tour for us was at Nakupenda Sandbank, so beautiful, we had the best seafood buffet, White sand beach with crystal clear waters, Best seafood buffet and on other words I can say it was a paradise.
We got pickup on time from our hotel and went and took a boat to Prison Island. Inside the boat there was a cooler box with soft drinks and bottle of waters and we did took some to stay refresh. We arrived at Prison Island, we saw Giant Tortoises, Ahmed took some photos for us also we went to see prison ruins. After we did go to the sandbank, we hand fresh fruits and then seafood buffet which was prepared at the beach. The seafood was the best; lobsters, octopus, calamari tasted so good. I recommend them, Ahmed his so hospitable and friendly.
We had a great day, Before our tour we confirm with Ahmed a vegetarian option as we don’t eat seafood and he did organize everything professionally, we did enjoy alot at the tour, best memories ever. Thanks to The Sultan Tours team, we highly recommend them as they are so professional and willing to assist you all the time.
Lace Organized! Were picked up from Matemwe on time and brought back again. Sanbank with barbecue was great!
Good to see the turtles. Nakupenda is a sandbank and not a real island. Nice to swim from. Bad snorkeling, nothing to see. We had a great guided tour of Stone Town by the same guide afterwards. Great. However, vegan food could not be offered so bring yourself is a tip.
This day trip was just SUBLIME. I was taken care of by Said for the visit of Stone Town. It’s a real encyclopedia: he knows everything about this island and he’s nice and kind. My real crush was for the Ahmed guide for the visits to Prison Island and Nakupenda: he is a kindness, a friendliness ... I enjoyed this excursion. It is also an encyclopedia, he puts at ease and is interested in everything: a real beautiful meeting. I recommend this tour if you have the chance to come here! Thank you very much Ahmed for everything! Asante sani! Cho cho:) See you very soon
Thank you to our guide Ahmed for a great day. No French but English guide. Pick up at the hotel then direction prison island (which does not have an old prison but a turtle sanctuary with a hotel) really nice to do, the turtles are huge and superb view then the sandbank of Nakupenda with fresh fruit platter and seafood barbecue made by our boat driver (really exceptional, delicious for the eyes and for the taste buds) and visit Stone Town that we could not do in full following the presidential election. It is really a great excursion to do absolutely to see what is most touristic and beautiful in 1 day
the attention and the tour is very good. we met amazing beaches and part of the history of the country. everything very complete and very good predisposition. super recommended.
