3-day Private Mikumi Safari Experience From Zanzibar – Return

We went from Zanzibar to Mikumi to go on safari. The communication was great when we booked, and through the trip. On the day of the safari the guide went out of his way to give us the beste experience ever. He had a lot of information and knowledge that answered all of our questions even before we thought of them. This is one of the best experiences we have gotten. The camp we stayed at was so nice, and the people working here is too.

It was a really great experience, our guide Noah saw all the animals and explain everything with all details, we really appreciate it. I reccomend it and if I coule I will do it again

We did the 3-day/2-nights tour from Sansibar to Mikumi and the trip was worth every penny! The communication beforehand was excellent, so there were no questions left unanswered. The transportation was perfectly organized, and our guide, Saloniki, was simply fantastic. He didn’t just do his job — he genuinely enjoyed what he was doing and shared his extensive knowledge about animals, nature and culture with us. Thanks to his great tracking skills, we saw three different groups of lions, several groups of elephants, zebras, buffaloes, countless giraffes, hippos, and almost all the animals that roam the park. Our expectations were exceeded by far. We can wholeheartedly recommend this trip!

My wife and I had an absolutely amazing time on this safari. It was truly one of the best experiences we have ever had. And it was not that expensive! We stayed a total of 2 nights in Mikumi. And the beautiful thing was that it was a private tour, so we could do everything on our tempo. Our tour guide was outstanding. He spoke excellent English, explained everything clearly, and took the time to make sure we understood and enjoyed every part of the journey. He was incredibly friendly, patient, and professional throughout the entire trip. I honestly cannot stop complimenting him because he made this experience so special for us. The safari itself was breathtaking. We saw incredible wildlife, enjoyed beautiful landscapes, and created memories that we will cherish forever. Everything was well organized, and we felt comfortable and taken care of at all times. I would highly recommend this safari to anyone visiting Tanzania. Without a doubt, this has been the best adventure of my life so far. Thank you for giving us such an unforgettable experience!

The safari was well organised and also the long journey to the camp and back to sansibar felt not that exhausting due to all the help🤗 The food and the camp were incredible. And because of our guides Nuhu and Saloniki who did their best to give as the best experience as possible, we could learn a lot about the wild animals. We always felt very comfortable. It was a great experience.

Our safari with Michael was truly exceptional. He drove us safely from morning to evening, always smiling, attentive and patient. He took time to explain everything about the animals, stopped whenever we had questions, and made the whole experience fun, natural and very interesting. We laughed, we learned, and felt completely at ease. Michael is an outstanding guide and we highly recommend him!

An unforgettable excursion. We (2 adults and a 10 year old child from Austria) were picked up early in the morning on the first day by our driver Isaya. The car was very comfortable and everything was well organised. Isaya was very nice and provided us with information on the 5 hour drive to Mikumi National Park. It was a great journey and we heard and saw a lot about the country and its people. We had lunch in a restaurant. This was also included and the food was delicious. We arrived at Camp Bastian around 2pm. The camp was beautiful and also had a great pool, which our daughter was very happy about. At around 4 pm we drove to the Maasai village. The Maasai danced and there was a guided tour of the whole village. Our Maasai Saloniki explained everything to us and it was super informative. At 6pm we drove back to camp and had dinner. The food was buffet style and very tasty. Our room was huge. It was clean and the bathroom was huge. The next day we left very early after breakfast for the national park. We had a huge open jeep for the three of us alone. We had two guides with us. Saloniki and Jackson. Both were great and were very keen to tell us everything about the animals and that we would see lots of them. They read the tracks and followed them. That day we were the only ones in the park to see the lions because our guides were so attentive. We had lunch in the park. This was also in buffet form and was again very tasty. Our tour of the park didn't end until 6.30am and we saw so many animals and learnt so much. The next day we travelled back to Dar es Salaam with our driver Isaya. It was another great journey and we then had lunch in Dar es Salaam itself. We had no additional costs apart from tips (which everyone really earned) or souvenirs. I can really recommend this tour with Kihindo Tours and Safari to everyone. There was nothing to complain about. I organised the organsition myself through Winnie from Kihindo tour. She was super quick to respond and answered all my questions. Great organisation and great people.

The trip was amazing and answered totally on our expectations. Organization, schedule, professionalism and kindness of the staff was perfect. Accommodations (lodges) are just near closed the park. we strongly recommend Kihindo Safaris to discover wild life in Tanzania.

We had a great time with Kihindo safari. The organisation was good, the location of the camp was close to the Mikumi Park, and was very pleasant. We had an amazing safari we spotted all the Big4 (lions, leopards, elephant, vuffalo) also hippo, crocodile and snake. I would recommend the agency, and specially our guide Iddris who did a great job to spot the all the animals.

I was very happy with the tour. I had very limited time and needed to find a tour for two days on the weekend, leaving on Saturday morning and returning on Sunday evening. I contacted many companies, but Kihindo Tours was the one I felt most comfortable with thanks to their professionalism. Being a solo female traveler, I was a little stressed and not sure if going on a safari was a good idea or not. But I am glad I did it! Winnie and the whole tour team took very good care of me from the moment I was picked up from the hotel to the moment I was dropped off. Although you usually have one guide, I had two. Salonike and Jonathan were both very good guides (actually one guide and one driver, but they both were super knowledgeable) and very nice people. We did the game rides in the morning and evening, both were incredible experiences. I recommend both the tour and Mikumi Park if you are short on time and cannot go to the Serengeti.

Absolutely fabulous!!! Winnie, who organised the tour was excellent. Communication from day 1 when I booked the tour to meeting us with our driver at the Hotel she was amazing. Mikio National Park is certainly a 'must do'!!!!! I would also like to say our driver William as so kind, courteous and knowledgeable. Thanks also go to our driver on safari, Jackson and our guide Saloniki who, also went beyond our expectations to show us around the National Park.

Well, the trip was awesome! We were picked up in Dar el Salem by the company car, with the awesome driver Idris! 1. The driving skills of Idris were perfect. As this was a 7 hours long drive, about 400 km i think, he was very careful with us and with the car. No reckless driving was shown by him. 2. First trip was to se a private village of native Afrikaans. They showed us theirs lifestyle and culture. We stayed as we pleased. 3. Second day of the trip, we visited Mikumi national park. Idris took us to see most of the animals. Unfortunately we did not successfully see the lions, but we were able to see all the other animals as in giraffes, hippos, antipopes, "pumba", and all kinds of birds. Idris took the time to explain all the information about animals and the tribe. He speaks very good English and it is easy to understand him. I would totally recommend.

We enjoyed a lot the experince in Mikumi National Park. Our guide, Idris, guided us through the safari travel and showed almost all the animals living in the park. He was very patient and take care of us (having his first priority:our safety), especially me (having some minor health problems). I liked a lot this trip and I will recommend in the future to my friends.

Winnie was fantastic and easy going. She arranged everything quickly, smoothly and flexibly. She kept in touch until all of the trip was done and made sure all went smooth. Our drivers from Dar es Salaam was competent and effective. The safari guide was amazing! He was humble, very knowledgeble and easy going. Highely reccommend.

Make this tour with Kihindo was undoubtedly a great choice! From the beginning, Winnie provided us with all the information we needed to choose the option that best suited our expectations. We experienced flight delays, lost our luggage, and they were not only always waiting for us but also helped us recover them (calling the airport, etc.). In other words, they went above and beyond their duties, which we greatly appreciated, especially in an unfamiliar country with a different language. We were taken to Mikumi Park by Michael and Meshack, who were both very helpful. As for the Safari, it was absolutely incredible. The guides Saloniki and Danfort knew how to identify important details so we could see as many animals as possible (lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, impalas, warthog Pumba, etc.). We really only have thanks to give and highly recommend the experience. Special thanks to Winnie, who was always always available.

We went on a 3 days safari in Mikumi National Park and had a great time with Michael, our Safari guide. He’s such a lovely person, is very knowledgable about the country and all kind of animals and we learnt so much of him! We spottet a lot of animals, even leopards and they are actually so hard to see. In the end, we saw 4 of the big five which made us so happy. The entire experience was very well organised, Winnie and Michael picked us up from the airport in the middle of the night, we had a super nice camp (Camp Bastian) just a little bit outside of the park with great food. We travelled as a couple and could not have wished for a better guide. Great safari car as well and we felt safe the entire time. Thanks again Michael and Winnie for such an awesome first Safari. We would really highly recommend booking with them, it was a 10 out of a 10! ❤️

Our three-day safari with Kihindo Tours was truly breathtakingly beautiful. Not only were we incredibly lucky to see all kinds of animals on the two days of our safari. Our tour guide Michael was also really nice. On the one hand, he was able to give us a lot of information, but on the other, he also gave us plenty of time to simply marvel at everything. The evening and early morning safaris in particular were really worthwhile. The accommodation booked by Kihindo was great and the food was really delicious. The visit of the Maasai village was also an amazing experience.

We had a really great tour from start to finish. The driver and guide, Isaiah picked us up from our apartment at 5am so that we would get to Mikumi before midday and we had game drives on all 3 days. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he was very friendly, answering all our guestions. He was able to get us close to all the animals, including lions. We also had a great visit to a real Masai village. Winnie was also great in arranging the tour to whatever personal schedule we wanted and answered all our emails very promptly. I would highly recommend this company to anyone considering a tour.

My colleague and I did 2 days-1 night tour with Kihindo Tours. Micheal, our tour guide, is no doubt one of the nicest people ever! He was very knowledgeable, answered all our questions with his smiley face, explained to us a lot about Tanzania and the Tanzanian culture, and of course showed us all the animals we hoped to see. We got so lucky and were able to see lions (even a hunting one), elephants, giraffes, crocodile, hippos,.. and even a leopard! We definitely feel very very lucky to have Micheal as our tour guide! Winnie had been so nice throughout the whole before-after the tour process. She helped us a lot during the booking, always checked on us if everything was okay during the safari. She even met us at our hotel at 4am when the car came to pick us up! Peter drove us back to our hotel in Dar Es Salaam. It was really interesting to talk to him as we learned a lot from him about the Tanzanian culture, families, music, etc. Overall, we highly recommend Kihindo Tours! Winnie was so helpful going above and beyond to make the organisation and start of the trip incredibly easy, including speedy communication, airport transfers, hotel recommendations, last minute activities and getting a sim card no stress at all. All of the team were very welcoming, caring and knowledgeable on a wide range of topics. Isaya anticipated every comfort and made journeys laidback and interesting. Godfrey was a great guide on safari, adapting to our wishes and finding great spots to see the unbelievable wildlife. The landscape of Mikumi National Park is well worth a visit and we were lucky to see lots of elephants and lions. It is also more accessible than other parks in the rainy seasons. The included accommodation at Camp Bastian was luxurious, comfortable and clean and there was a wide range of delicious food served at the buffets. I cannot recommend Kihindo Tours and Safaris enough! You can really rely on them to have a trip of a lifetime.

I had a lot of expectations but this tour exceeded them all. We saw so many animals, our guide Gaston showed us as many things as possible and gave a lot of information, the hotel was super pretty. This was an amazing experience and I recommend this tour. Also don't get scared about the rainy season in December because there was almost no rain when I was there.

From our first contact via WhatsApp with Winnie until our incredible guide William dropped us off at our hotel I had the feeling of being floating... it had been a long time since I felt like a child. It was a perfect safari trip with kihindo ! Saw an amazing amount of wildlife! All the big ticket items. Lions, giraffe, impala, warthogs, zebra, leopard, hippo, etc. Excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. Bastian lodge is quite nice. It exceeded my expectations.

Its been an amazing experience! From meeting the Masais Tribe to spend all day at the Mikumi Park seeing all kind of animals. Our guide Isaya was incredible, we felt like home with him! Thank to him we saw lions three times, crocodiles, hypos, bufalos, ñus, elefants, zebras, monkeys, antilopes!! Very very good price for the experience! I’ve looked at so many safaris before choose and they were all very expensive comparing with this one! Nothing nothing to envy! You won’t regret it!!!

Jambo ! I could not use a thousand words to describe how thankful I am to have lived this experience with the right people ! We were indeed a big group (of 11 people) and it still was fantastic ! Asante sana (a hundred times -> how Gaston used to say this) to all the guides: Godi, William and Gaston waza…😉 Not only we had complete explanations about the safari tour but the guides were also good vibes, it’s always a pleasure to meet good people on the other side of the world ! :-) The fact that we could be DJ’s in the cars was also lit : discovering about the culture of one another 👍🏻 We couldn’t have been happier than we were on those 3 days ! And for that, you deserve once again the song that we sung to you on our last day with that Belgian touch at the end : “EWA EWA” (it should be added for the future to the traditional one I guess hahah 😂) P.s. : the chef did the best soups ever, I couldn’t write this comment without highlighting it 😇

Kihindo safaris might be the best safari organizer in Tanzania. From the booking untill the last day, every thing was perfect. The tour guide’s (Godfrey and Wiliam) where very welcoming and kind. The safari trip was really fantastic and amazing! Kihindo gave us the possibility to look wild animals in their habitat really close and this was emotional. The tour was organized perfectly since the transfer from Dar es Salaam ferries to Mikumi national park. The guides are very friendly and kind, but most of all they are very qualified! During the trip they share all their knowledge and experience to us in order to better understand local tradition and animal life. Kihindo bring us to comfortable structure where we had the possibility to taste traditional food and rest for the night. First of all, thanks to Winnie - she did everything to make our tour unforgettable (smooth booking process, personal care via WhatsApp from beginning to end...) Our first driver Peter took us from Dar to the first stop where we changed the cars and we had the chance to taste very fresh roasted cashews & excellent coffee. Our personal highlight during the Safari was Isaya from Kihindo Tours. All in all we were more than satisfied with the handling. Everything just worked perfectly. Already on the outward journey from Dar to Camp Bastian we have sighted the first animals thanks to the good eyes of our guide. The accommodation was very comfortable. Also the food was very good, the service was excellent. The visit to the massai village was a unique experience as well as the safari on the second day. Isaya managed to get us ALL the animals living in the park in front of the camera and was always in a very good mood. Asante sana!

I trusted Isaya without knowing him and he didn’t disappoint me, on the contrary he was superb!!! I highly recommend booking KIHINDO Tours. Isaya is a young, eager man wanting to give the best of him to bring quality to the trip. He responded promptly to all my questions via WhatsApp and found the perfect safari for us, two families with kids. We arrived to Selous Reserve and he was waiting for us with his big smile and friendly attitude to introduce us to our AMAZING ranger named Joe. Joe not only is nice and fun, but he’s knowledgeable and really knows the place very well so we had 2 great days chasing animals, going through different parts of the reserve and learning a lot while having fun!!! He even took us to a hot spring. We saw many animals and had a blast, and the most important: we felt safe!!! Firstly, Winnie our correspondant from Kihindo been very helpful to organise the different activities in the trip on to choose the safari place. She been very patient and reactive about all my questions (it was a lot). She already gave me a good impression of the company About the trip, our driver/guide Bakary was very nice, patient and answer all the question we had. We been to a Massai village, it was a out of time experience and we also did the safary in Mikumi park who been as promised, incredible. Back in Dar es Salam, we also booked a tour of the city. Peter our guide of the day was also very nice, friendly and explained everything we was seeing. We been in many places, museums, markets, fish market, etc but also he took me in local places that he know for discovering more. I have been planning a safari to Tanzania for my family for Jul/Aug 2024, and had reached out to a couple of operators for designing a custom itinerary covering North and South Tanzania. Kihindo Tours and Safaris was one of these operators. Winnie from Kihindo Tours and Safaris was one of the most responsive people I've ever met! She was able to provide good inputs about any places I had questions about, was able to clearly communicate the pros and cons of any changes I would propose, and was very reasonably priced. She always had a very quick turnaround for the updated itinerary and quote in spite of the time zone differences! While I went with another operator for the booking due to payment terms more suitable to my specific situation, Kihindo Tours and Safaris was certainly instrumental in finalizing the customized itinerary for my upcoming trip. Our guide isayah was outstanding, he went out of his way to make our safari an amazing experience , the accommodation was excellent, the food was good and most importantly isayah was able to find all the amazing wildlife that Mikumi Park has to offer! Isayah is an incredibly kind decent and funny guy, our airline lost our bags and isayah and two of his emplyees ( winnie and william) helped us sort it all out and he also helped organise our ferry trip to zanzibar following our safari Highly recommend this company

All in all, it was one of the best trips i have ever had. We did a three-days tour to Mikumi and it was perfectly organized from the booking until the end. Godfrey and William picked us up at our hotel in DarEsSalaam and after that we had a funny and very informative drive to mikumi. At the second day, the Safari, godfrey and William tried all their best to see a Lot of animals, and of course, we saw lots of different animals. Godfrey also gave us lots of Information about the animals, trees and enviornment. Willi and Gody were very punctual so helpful. So they booked and took us to the Ferry to zanzibar. The accomodation was a simple but very cozy. You have everything you need and you do Not spend lots of time there. All in all, i say thank you for everything and i highly recommend KIHINDO, Godfrey and William!

The safari was a complete success from start to finish and worth every penny. The organization worked very well, we exchanged information in advance via WhatsApp. Our guide Godfrey and driver William are such cool and friendly people, it was an honor to meet them and spend the 3 days with them. Godfrey told us a lot of interesting facts about the animals and life in Tanzania. We saw so many animals during the Safari, absolutely stunning. We have been before to several parks in Tanzania but this trip to Mikumi exceeded all our expectations. It was a wonderful experience and Isaya has been such a fantastic guide! We were in doubt if we should take a safari or not for only 3 days in the raining season. Our son of 12 years convinced us to take it and we are so glad we did it! Isaya was very prompt and clear in the communication before the safari, both on email and WhatsApp and we liked that very much. We drove from Dar on a rainy Saturday and the road was blocked because of two trucks that crushed on the road before Morogoro. Isaya was very clever in driving, very calm and in a good mood despite the chaos around and the long cue of trucks and busses blocked on the road, bringing us safely to Mikumi. We saw so many animals, and our son was thrilled to see baby lions baby elephants, baby giraffes and zebras. The trip to Maasai Village was also a wonderful experience. Our son was thrilled to learn about their traditions.

We did a 3 day/ 2 night safari in Mikumi National Park out of Dar es Salaam. Isaya was a half hour early to pick us up, always a good sign, and he was an engaging, chatty host for the 5 hour drive to Mikumi. We had a great evening game drive (almost touched an elephant out the truck window!) and settled in for a comfortable night in a park lodge. Early game drive next day with more good animals, lunch, and a visit to a Masai village. Isaya was excellent company throughout and his selections of lodging, food, etc were all flawless. 10/10 would go with him again.

We spent 3 unforgettable, beautiful days in Tanzania's breathtaking nature. The team at Kihindo Tours provided us with information even before our trip to Zanzibar and was available for questions at any time. Pilly kept in touch with us via WhatsApp and sent us all the tickets and information in good time. The journey by ferry and train was great because you get to see so much of the country and get a little bit of a sense of life in Africa. Everything was relaxed and punctual—we were already picked up from the hotel and taken to the ferry and the train by warm-hearted staff members each time. Simply perfectly organized. From the Morogoro train station, we were then picked up by our so warm-hearted, friendly, and clever guides Yohana (Johan) and Isaya and driven to our simple but clean camp in Mikumi National Park, where we were greeted so warmly by the staff with a great lunch. In the afternoon, Yohana (best German-speaking guide) and Isaya (the best driver in the world!) made everything possible to show us the beautiful nature. We saw numerous elephants, giraffes, a sleeping lion family, birds, iguanas, crocodiles, "hippos," hyenas, "Pumbas," impalas, antelopes, elands, wildebeests, and fennec foxes. In the evening, there was a good meal at our camp, and the next morning we drove out at 6 o'clock into the sunrise. We were out completely alone because the park doesn't open until 7 o'clock. Yohana and Isaya tried so hard, and we learned a great deal. In the afternoon, we drove to a Maasai village and learned a lot about their life and culture. We spent the evening and the night at the breathtaking "Camp Lilac." In the middle of the wilderness, in beautiful tent houses, with incredibly friendly and helpful staff and a dinner by the campfire under the starry sky of Africa. Isaya and Yohana were the best companions one could imagine. They brought Tanzania into our hearts and taught us so much about this wonderful country and the culture and put in an incredible amount of effort—and they have the best sense of humor. Asante Sana!! A fantastic experience in Mikumi with our guide Nuhu. He knew all about wildlife and birds. We learned a lot. We saw the elephants, zebras, antelopes, Giraffes, monkeys, puumba, buffalo, hippon, lions and several beautiful birds. All transport worked great. We went by train to Morogoro which was nice, when we arrived we got food and later a visit to a Maasai village where we got lots of information about the Maasai lives. (Take the opportunity to buy handicrafts from the Maasai women) The second day we left early and came home late after a fantastic day in Mikumi National Park, lunch in the park. On the third day it was time to travel to Zanzibar by train and ferry. It was nice that the driver was waiting for us outside the ferry even though we were delayed and on to our accommodation in Jambiani.

Definitely an experience to remember and recommend. We were treated amazing at all times. Getting to know the Masai village and the safari are experiences that leave a mark. Both Isaac and Jack did their best to see the maximum number of animals; giraffes, lions, zebras, impalas, etc. At Bastian camp we also had a happy stay. Very grateful to the entire team of Kihindo (Winnie, Adam, Isaac, Jack)!
