Probably best location if you like calm relaxing atmosphere and absolutely best beach for swimming. I recommend beach bungalows if you are, because the upper rooms are located, well, up,and require going up and down via stairs with no elevator. It's nothing critical but people with disabilities might find it less accessible. The pool meh, but the ocean is absolutely perfect, since it's one place in Zanzibar where the tides are minimal, so it's not even needed much. The staff is friendly and helpful too.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for five days. Overall, the hotel is good for a mid-range option, and the best thing about it is definitely the location: Kendwa is one of the best parts of the beach. However, the restaurant and the staff who work there were awful. Everything was very disorganized. You often have to ask for things more than once because they simply don’t come back with your order. There is also a woman, who I believe is a manager, who works at the restaurant reception and was extremely rude to guests. This happened to me when I asked for a towel (yes, you have to ask for a towel at the restaurant) because I had a diving trip early in the morning. I asked for one at 7:40 a.m., but she was rude to me and said I had to wait until 8:20 a.m. to get it, even though I needed it for my dive. But the worst part for me was seeing the staff using a slingshot to scare and hit birds that occasionally came to the tables looking for leftover food. The birds were only coming because the staff were not properly cleaning the tables and leaving food behind. I found this completely unacceptable. In summary, the hotel itself is good, especially considering its location, but the restaurant and the service are awful. There are many other hotels nearby that may offer a better experience if staying in Kendwa is your priority. Regarding the room, it was comfortable and the bed was good. However, the hot water supply seemed to be limited, and two people could not take a full hot shower one after another. The Wi-Fi did not work properly, and we also experienced several power outages during our stay.
I absolutely enjoyed my stay at Sunset Kendwa. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Kudos to the management team. My room was also nice, however, the lights went out a couple of times which affected our shower heater and AC. For food, I enjoyed breakfast, however, for dinner, the buffet had limited variety to choose from. Ps: I’m a picky eater. The views and sunset were exceptional. You will definitely enjoy your stay here.
Beautiful location and a lovely stay overall. The only downside was that the Wi-Fi was switched off every day from around midday until midnight, with no alternative provided. We often had to go to nearby hotels just to access the internet. Apart from that, we really enjoyed our stay.
We stayed here for 6 days. After doing a lot of research, we ended up choosing Sunset Kendwa Hotel, and we didn’t regret it for a second. The grounds are huge and beautifully kept, the rooms are great, and they’re cleaned daily. We booked half-board, and every single dinner was absolutely amazing. The food was varied, super delicious, with plenty of meat and fresh fruit. A huge shoutout to the chefs! I also want to highlight the staff—they are incredibly friendly, never pushy, and genuinely care about your experience. Any issue gets sorted out instantly, allowing you to just completely unwind. 🏝️ Big thanks to the front desk team for helping us with everything! Special thanks to Joseph the bartender for the great vibes, awesome company, and for making our vacation so memorable. It’s amazing when people like him make your stay even more special. Highly recommend this hotel! 🏖️😎
