I had a fantastic stay at Spice Island Resort. The resort itself is beautiful, a huge pool, beach bar, a peaceful jetty with a bar and direct access to the beach. My room was very spacious and clean with a comfortable bed. The staff were absolutely lovely, the food and drinks were great and I really enjoyed my massage. Absolute paradise!!
Our stay at Spice Island Resort in Zanzibar was absolutely wonderful. One of the highlights was the beautiful bar on the jetty, offering breathtaking views over the Indian Ocean – the perfect place to relax with a drink, especially at sunset. The food was outstanding throughout our stay. Every meal was delicious, and the restaurant service was exceptional. The staff were attentive, professional, and always made us feel welcome. The location is simply stunning. The resort is set on a beautiful white sandy beach, and waking up to the spectacular sunrise every morning was an unforgettable experience. A special thank you goes to the entire team. Every member of the staff was incredibly friendly, competent, and genuinely caring. The warm, family-like atmosphere made us feel at home from the very first day. We highly recommend Spice Island Resort to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable holiday in Zanzibar. We would love to come back!
Unfortunately, our experience at this hotel was very disappointing. We had serious cleanliness issues in our original room, including cockroaches, and it took 4 nights before we were moved to another room. During our stay, the shower also worked poorly and the issue was not resolved despite reporting it. The restaurant service was disorganized on several occasions, with long waiting times and incorrect orders. We were also concerned about hygiene standards. One meal we received contained ants in the fries, and we also noticed birds eating from the breakfast buffet area. The beach area did not meet our expectations either. Depending on the time of day, the water level was very low, there were many stones, and overall cleanliness could have been better. Based on our experience, we would not choose to stay here again.
An absolutely wonderful stay – beyond our expectations! Due to cancelled flights we had to unexpectedly extend our stay in Zanzibar, and choosing Spice Island Hotel turned out to be the best decision we could have made. Before arriving here we had stayed in two other hotels on the island, but this one was truly exceptional. Everything about the place exceeded our expectations. The rooms are beautiful, spacious and luxurious, and the cleanliness is at a true European standard. The atmosphere is peaceful, elegant and very welcoming. What impressed us the most, however, was the incredible hospitality. Everyone – from the staff to the owners – was extremely kind, attentive and genuinely caring. We were travelling as a family with our 4-year-old daughter and felt completely comfortable. The pool is wonderful, the food is delicious and diverse, and the whole place has such a warm and relaxing feeling. We arrived quite stressed because of the cancelled flights and the uncertainty about our trip, but staying here made us feel calm and truly at home. A very special thank you to Tatyana and her wonderful family for their kindness, care and hospitality. They made our unexpected extra days in Zanzibar truly special. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Zanzibar and we would absolutely love to come back again.
Spice Island Hotel and Resort Review The hotel is not located where the sea is the most beautiful. It’s clear that the hotel is currently undergoing modernization. The common areas are very nice and well-maintained. During high tide, it’s great to visit the bar by the pier and take a swim there. The food is very good, and the staff are friendly. It’s important to know that there are two types of rooms: some older, somewhat worn rooms, and others that have been renovated. So be careful when booking. The older rooms vary a lot—some are acceptable, but others are quite bad, with a strong musty odor. The renovated rooms are very beautiful. However, you only get one sheet to sleep under. The air conditioning works well, and the shower has good pressure, but I personally had no hot water. Not all rooms had this problem, but it couldn’t be fixed during my stay. Also, the toilet leaked onto the floor, the roof leaked when it rained, and paint dripped onto my belongings. All these issues seriously affected my experience. At this time, I cannot recommend this hotel. There are better options available.
