The water villas were lovely. Unfortunately, beyond that, there isn’t much positive to say.
The staff, particularly at reception, were often rude and unhelpful. The resort also appeared to be significantly understaffed compared to other properties we’ve stayed at, which affected the overall level of service.
Breakfast and dinner were very basic and fell well short of what you would expect from a five-star resort, especially when compared with the neighbouring resort where we stayed afterwards. The difference in both the quality of the food and the service was striking.
It’s a real shame because the hotel has so much potential, but it doesn’t seem to be managed or operated to the standard its setting and accommodation deserve.
The Water Villa accommodation was amazing. However the rest of the resort does not meet the same standard. There is limited food choices, staff are unwilling to help and contact from reception was exceptionally rude.
Staff did not communicate dietary needs. Once I checked this, the chef said “it was a mistake” and the cake I had eaten contained gluten, despite clarifying I was gluten free numerous times.
The whole experience was not worth the extortionate cost. We expected a 5 star service and this was not the case at all.
Very disappointed and would not recommended staying here.
The over the water villas are amazing , the GM is amazing also he took care of us and made sure things were right , the food is great it was the best burger I’ve had in Zanzibar . The staff is great also well worth the stay THANK YOU
I was invited to a birthday party of a friend from France that took place at the hotel and i had the opportunity to stay at the Isaraya Water Villas and it was all luxury feels... My room opened to endless blue, sunlight that spilled across polished wood and soft linens. The freestanding bathtub faces the ocean from the side, It was private, serene, indulgent and certainly it was where time slows, and the sea became part of the room, i loved it!
You just have to see it to believe it. This place is one of Zanzibar's and possibly the world's most beautiful off the beaten path resorts you'll ever have the privilege of experiencing in a lifetime. From the staff, to the food, to the views this place is SECOND, to none. I'd suggest either the Sea View villas or the over the water villas. Both are at a premium, but your experience in them will justify any market price required to secure them. Over water villas have their own over the water restaurant, 24/7 concierge service including food, with the option of using the main restaurant. The Maasai tribe provided 24/7 security in traditional wear and are some of the most nicest folks I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful vacation with all of the amenities, Konokono is where it is.
