We spent a month long holiday in Tanzania and our family trip would have been perfect if we have not stayed at this hotel. We get out and about a lot so we opted for standards hotel service which includes breakfast. Right as we checked in we were told that we needed wrist band, which was very odd for us as we understand that its for the staff to identify which guests uses which package but isn't it the staff job to remember each client. The wrist band made us feels discrimination from the other guests as we can feel that the service from the staff really different from our standards package and other all meals included package. As we travel across Tanzania all the local people we met was so friendly and always say Jumbo (Hello) to us, even porters carrying heavy weight on Mt Kilimanjaro. Yet as we walked out our room, when the hotel staff saw us in the morning, they just look at us and ignore us. The day we checked out, my parents whom are in their 70s have to carry their own 32 inches luggage which weight in the 20+kg each, up to the reception area and they did that multiple times! Yet, no help from the staff. At breakfast, we can tell that the hotel seems to cater more for European, from their choice of breakfast which we have no problem. Yet some of their items have been kept for a long time that give that distinct smell in the sauce and honey. The restaurant serves seriously need some training. We asked for two fried eggs for one person. Yet the service came out with two portions of two fried eggs which obviously too much for one person. To leave a lasting impression, the minute that our car arrived and we were about to leave the hotel for good. Across all the hotel we stayed in Tanzania, their staff would greet us all the way to our car which makes us felt the Tanzania warmth hospitality. Yet at this hotel, the staff just be on their phone and say nothing to us, not even goodbye 😒

A beautiful little hotel in a fantastic location. We loved waking up to the sound of the ocean and spending our days relaxing by the pool or on the beach. The food was very good, with plenty of choice, and the staff made us feel welcome from the first day. The hotel has a lovely intimate atmosphere. We would definitely come back!
The is a real review and a truthful one. Do not come stay at this hotel. Yes the facilities was decent, clean room, nice beach front and nice pool. But the service and the food was seriously terrible. Right as we arrived we ordered lunch from the kitchen, for just a very simple burgers took the kitchen almost an hour. The fish burger we ordered taste nothing like fish. And as we want to pay for our bill in cash there was so much confusion on where do we pay, and this was just a simple task. We are active family and get out and about yet the hotel aren't able to facilitate with any of our request. We requested for an easy on the go breakfast, just anything but the hotel claims that unless we booked a tour with the hotel, they cant provide any lunch box. And just to get an answer on this took almost two hours! This is our fish time in Zanzibar and already we do not want to return to this place. We were fortunate enough to had fantastic time from Moshi, else this would totally ruin our 3 weeks holiday.
I had an absolutely wonderful stay at AHG Hotel in Zanzibar in December 2021. From the moment I arrived, everything was smooth and welcoming. The hotel is beautiful, clean, and perfectly maintained, creating a very relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. The staff were friendly, attentive, and always ready to help, making the experience even more enjoyable. The rooms were spacious and well-equipped, and the surroundings were peaceful, ideal for unwinding and enjoying the island vibe. The hotel also organized a very beautiful New Year's Eve event, which made the stay even more memorable. Overall, it was a perfect, stress-free getaway — I would highly recommend AHG Hotel to anyone visiting Zanzibar.
Our stay was wonderful. The hotel is beautifully situated on the scenic east coast of Zanzibar, where the ocean views are absolutely stunning. The hotel itself has a quaint, authentic charm that makes it feel warm and welcoming. The staff are genuinely lovely, kind and friendly. They clean the rooms twice a day, which kept everything feeling fresh. The food was a la carte menu, it consisted of four courses for both lunch and dinner, with plenty of fresh fish for those who enjoy seafood. There was no shortage of activities, which made our stay even better. Throughout the day the hotel offers things like cooking classes, aqua aerobics, palm-leaf weaving, and even cocktail making, which was an unexpected surprise for us. There are plenty of beautiful photo opportunities around the property. A small note: the beaches in Zanzibar are open to everyone, and while interacting with the locals can be part of the charm, some may try to overcharge, so it’s good to stay mindful. Lastly, a special mention to Samuel in the restaurant and the two Omars from Kappa Club — they were our absolute favourites and truly elevated our experience. We would happily recommend AHG hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing and authentic Zanzibar getaway.
