My husband and I booked a walking tour on our first morning in Merida. We met our guide Gonzalo in the central square. We were lucky to be the only ones on the tour as we were able to ask questions and get detailed answers about the history and culture of this amazing city. Born and raised in Merida, Gonzalo was able to pass on his expert knowledge and appreciation for this fascinating part of the world in a friendly and engaging manner. Great experience!
Max was an excellent guide, providing great information about Mérida and the Yucatan Peninsula. I also greatly appreciate his dining and shopping recommendations.
Had a wonderful time. Gonzales the guide and inform3d us we were the only ones who had booked thr tour. We waited to see if anyone was last mi utebut there wasn't. We had been to Merida before and gad gone into all of the various places downtown, but this really enriched what we knew. Gonzalo was articulate, and extremely knowledgeable. He answered all my questions, of which there were many. He had a great personality. I would recommend this walking tour for anyone who wants to know the history
The tour was very nice and our guide Ximena was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and kind. It gave us a nice overview of Mayan history.
It helped us get a feel for Merida and the rich history of the Yucatan Peninsula. I really appreciated how knowledgeable our guide was and how she was able to incorporate our different interests into our tour. It made me curious to explore further things like cuisine, artwork, music, nature of the area.
Had a great tour with Gonzalo who was extremely knowledgeable and informative, the group interrupted him quite a bit, me included, and added an extra hour to the tour which he took with good grace and didn't seem to mind, he's an easy going guy 🙏 if you're in Merida take the tour you'll learn so much from it. 5 ⭐👌
Terrific tour with Max! Turns out I was the only person and the one on one experience was nice. I got to ask all the questions! Max gave a terrific cultural and historical walk and talk. The price was good, too. Highly recommend!
This was a short and sweet tour hitting some highlights in the historic center. Luisa did a lovely job walking us through the history of Mérida. I’m only giving 4 out of 5 stars because it does seem like we could have covered a few more stops but that’s more on the structure of the tour than the delivery.
Got to see beautiful art and architecture in Mérida, highly recommend! Learned about the history of the Mayan people and the Spanish involvement in the area.
Our tour with Max was amazing! He shared so much history and culture, which really brought the places we visited to life!!
We live in the Southern U.S. and are used to exercising and working in the yard in hot weather. However, we were unprepared for the heat of this tour. Our guide talked a very long time (or at least it felt along time) about the art in the governor's palace. He was very knowledgeable, but it was so stifling, one of the older men in our group had to leave. The churches and other buildings had doors open or some sort of ventilation. But unfortunately we about an hour in this building. There are lots of stairs and uneven walking surfaces. If you go, take a folding fan, a hat (for walking between buildings) and a bottle of water. There are some stores near the square that sell water but you will have to break off from the tour to go find one.
Merida has so much wonderful history and it’s great seeing it up close. My wife & I would recommend this to everyone.
Fantastic tour of historic downtown Merida. Our guide Edgar was very knowledgeable and tailored the tour to our interests and level of knowledge. He also went out of his way to recommend food spots and places to check out in the city. It was a great way to start our trip in Merida!!
Enjoyed the colonial style architecture and the historical information
Max was very informative and enthusiastic and open to all of our questions.
Max was a great guide - we lucked out and ended up with a private tour! Hearing the stories and people behind the buildings made the city all the more enjoyable. The points of interest are pretty close together and Max made sure to find spots in the shade to stop and talk so it wasn’t too hot!
Luisa was a great guide and we all enjoyed the tour! We didn’t have a lot of time in Merida so this is helped us get to oriented in the city and better understand its history.
The tour was great. It’s not too much walking as the historic area is quite small, but nonetheless very interesting and packed with information. Ximena was wonderful as our tour guide - funny, knowledgeable and passionate. Also very helpful with local food recommendations. Highly recommend this tour and Ximena.
Max was so knowledgeable. I really appreciated his views on art and the cultural aspects of Merida. It is clear he is a patriotic Yucatecan. I would highly recommend him to anyone! His English was excellent!
Max has the best gossip In the yucatan. His passion for the Yucatan is awesome. Very knowledgeable in the culture and history. Highly recommended!!!!
This was an excellent 2 hour tour with good information and not too long. Our guide Ximena Carrillo Andrade was so knowledgeable and made the tour a lot of fun!
It was very good. We got a better feel for the history of the city and the region, as well as places to plan to visit for food, where to shop and not shop, art., etc. The history, culture and treatment of the Mayan people by the Mexican government was of particular interest.
Very knowledgeable, fun guide Ximena Carrillo gave us some very good recommendations for restaurants and free museums
Luis was FANTASTIC. Incredible energy, enthusiasm and knowledge. We learned so much about Merida and the Yucatan. A great experience.
Eduardo, our guide, was awesome! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Mérida and showed us the best parts of the city. Would highly recommend taking this tour to get an introduction to Mérida!
We had an excellent experience! Tour started at 9am and ended around 12 noon. In those few hours Luis covered an incredible amount of history, culture, geopolitical influences and a host of other topics. We are not new to traveling to and within Mexico, in fact have been doing so for over 30 years and yet we learned a lot. Highly recommend this walking tour and if you can get Luis, you will learn a lot!
Max was very knowledgeable and a fun guide. I was able to understand a lot about the history of the buildings around the Grand Plaza. Very enjoyable!
What a great introduction to the history of Mérida! Ximena brought the past alive through a mix of humor and passionate storytelling. She was really great and we highly recommend this tour to other Spanish speakers.
Max was a terrific guide! This tour was informative, low key, and pleasant. The historical contexts are very helpful in understanding the character of the area.
Eduardo was a fascinating tour guide, not only very knowledgeable but also brought a sense of humour to our tour. It was very in-depth and exactly what we were looking for, in learning about the history of Mérida.
Our guide Max did a wonderful job of telling us about Mérida and giving historical insight and recommendations. We were a group of five family members with another pair of visitors and Max was great about answering our questions and keeping the group engaged.
A decent review of some of the traditional sites in Merida. Guide book insights - lacked compelling details.
Gabriella was very good. Knowledgeable, receptive to audience. Answered all questions comprehensively. Was fun to be with. Learned alot about Merida and the Mayan culture.
I have a very good time with the tour guide and he had a lot to say, it was also very cheap and easy to spot my tour guide
This was the perfect tour to orient ourselves to the rich history of Mérida. Our guide Max was super friendly, knowledgeable and an excellent presenter. We had plenty of time at each stop to take pictures and get all our questions answered. We highly recommend the tour and Max!
Max was the best tour guide!! He was informative and humorous and answered all of our questions. The same tour we paid $22 per person for is also FREE! Just show up and tip your tour guide instead!
Our guide Max was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all our questions. I only wish we could have gone into Casa Montejo so we wouldn’t have to go back on our own and overall felt the tour was a bit short. But I love history and could hear about it all day, so I think it’s a perfect tour for anyone who wants just a basic overview of Merida’a history. Highly recommend Max as a guide!
This historic walking tour of Mérida was absolutely wonderful and one of the highlights of my visit. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the city’s history to life with so much energy, enthusiasm, and genuine love for Mérida and its culture. The group was very small, which made the experience feel personal and allowed us to go much deeper into the stories behind the main buildings and the key historical milestones of the city. We weren’t just walking past landmarks — we truly understood their significance, context, and evolution over time. If you’re interested in history, architecture, and culture, and you want a meaningful, in-depth introduction to Mérida rather than a rushed tour, I highly recommend this experience.
A really lovely overview of the history of Merida, with emphasis on local buildings and their relevance. Gabriella was fabulous and enthusiastic, and seemed to know pretty much everything! Very impressive, and we'll definitely be looking into more of these tours in other cities on our trip
The walking tour was great! But it’s free, look up free walking tours in Merida. Trip advisor charges 60$ per person and the tour guides make maybe ~10$ per tour for this FREE tour. No need to purchase on here, just show up. Spoke to the tour guide and they had no idea trip advisor was charging for these tours.
Great tour. Fun and informative guide - Mauricio. Two hours was a great amount of time and gave us a good understanding of Yucatan history, culture, and the general area of Merida core.
So much awesome information our guide had great history information!! I highly recommend this Company. Lasted 21/2 hours I just wish I had booked a different day Monday museums are closed.
This was actually a free tour offered by the Tourist Center and we were charged for it. The tour was short and the guide spoke way to fast to understand what she was talking about.
My husband and I were the only two on this morning tour. Our guide Max was very knowledgeable and full of information, and we were able to have a lot of interaction with him. My husband knows quite a bit of Mexican history and was able to ask questions as we walked along. In the end Max gave us several restaurant recommendations and also helped me to locate a gallery that I had been looking for. Max was a fun and friendly guide and we would recommend him highly.
I had a wonderful tour with Luis, he knows the town súper well, is a very good story teller and super entertaining! One of the best city tours I have ever joined, highly recommend! Atm he does them on Wednesdays at 6, Friday at 5, Sunday at 5 and Monday at 5! Don’t miss it :)
Just finished the Walking Tour Across the Historic Center in Merida with the English-speaking guide, Maria Fernanda, who was great! She was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and eager to answer any questions we had. It was a thoroughly enjoyable 2 hours. Now, I wish the tour had been a bit longer!
Maria Fernanda spoke excellent English, and has a real passion for the historical district of Merida. She made the city come alive and related many fascinating facts. I loved our tour.
If you are planning to do a walking tour with them you wont regret it! Certainly should book it for the first day of your trip so that you can use their excellent tips and recommendations. You can also join the walking tour at the spot they are meeting in front of Casa de Montejo without booking in advance, as long as the group isnt too big. Ximena was the best guide and we are so happy to have had the chance to learn from such a knowledgeable person and get to know the city with an experienced guide :)
Gabriella was fantastic, very informative and a lot of fun. Learnt a lot about the local culture and the history of Yucatan. Merida is beautiful to see.
