Wonderful experience. The drive was three hours but smooth. Juan was our tour guide that day. He birds watch so it was nice to know the different birds around the place. the pink lagoon was amazing. Plus, the lunch had beautiful setting.

the tour was wonderful!! our guide Juan and our driver Jorge were great, very friendly and always looking after us. in our group, i was the only one speaking english (the rest were speaking spanish), but the guide still explained everything in both languages and made sure I understood all the info. he even helped me talk with the other people who didn't speak english😅. i truly recommend this tour, especially for couples, solo travelers and small groups of friends🫶🏻🇲🇽
This experience was absolutely incredible. Every place was stunning and it never felt rushed. We enjoyed the pink lakes, had plenty of time to swim at the beach, cruised on the river and loads more. I was so excited to see flamingos, plenty of birds, and even a crocodile! Nice that everything is included in the price. The drive is long but worth it. Would definitely recommend for anyone travelling to the Yucatan.
What an experience of a lifetime! 🌸🦩🚤 Our Las Coloradas and Río Lagartos tour was absolutely unforgettable. From start to finish, our guides were excellent — friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about making the experience special. 👌 Seeing the incredible pink lakes of Las Coloradas was breathtaking, but the boat trip through Río Lagartos was just as magical. Being out on the water, surrounded by nature and wildlife, was pure soul food. ❤️ And then there was the lunch! The restaurant and dish recommended to us were outstanding — honestly, one of the best meals I have ever eaten. 😋 This tour was so much more than just sightseeing; it was one of those experiences that stays with you. If you are visiting Yucatán, I would absolutely recommend it. A truly unforgettable day and one of the highlights of our trip to Mexico! 🇲🇽❤️
We had a great time on this tour! Everything was really well organised, and we learned a lot. The views were amazing, and seeing flamingos and crocodiles so close was definitely a highlight! Juan and Jorge were fantastic, friendly, helpful, and very attentive. We really enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend this tour!
It was a really awesome trip i really recommend it , it was much better than i thought, every single place we went we really enjoyed , we took a lot of pictures everywhere and we saw crocodiles next to us as well the pelicans
Long time in the bus is worth it, we saw Flamingos, Alligators and Pelicans. The colour of the Salt lake was amazing and a lot of photos were taken from local tourguide there from us in a professional way with our phones. The food in the restaurant, which was included was average but service there was good
This trip to Las Coloradas was gorgeous, and a lot of activities (visit the lakes, swimming in the beach, boating in the lakes with flamingos, lunch in Rio Lagartos…), it was very nice to see the flamingos 🦩 and the pink lakes ✨, the guide was amazingly friendly.
We were the only English-speaking folks on the tour but our guide was dual-lingual and translated everything for us. It was a great experience. We loved seeing the flamingos and the Mayan mud bath the most. Highly recommend.
I had a wonderful experience on this tour, I had to move to another date due to not enough numbers on the date I booked, the tour ended up being fully spanish speaking however my guide was so kind and made sure to translate everything for me in english and ensured to check in on me, the actual tour was awesome, Los Colorados was so beautiful and the guide whom took us around was an A+ photographer, once we got on the boats the drivers were always looking for crocodiles and we managed to see 3 and the flamingos were WOW, we were able to view them for a good amount of time and take photos! The clay bathing was fun, all in all this was a great tour! I highly recommend doing this when it is the good season for flamingos :)
Amazing experience from start to finish! Visiting Las Coloradas, Cancunito, and Río Lagartos was such a memorable day. The landscapes were beautiful, and each stop had something special to offer. Our guide was excellent—friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Everything was well organized, and I truly had a great time. I definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area!
We initially planned to rent a car and drive to Las Coloradas ourselves, but instead booked the “Las Coloradas, Río Lagartos and Playa Cancunito Tour from Mérida” tour, and it was a great decision. The tour really does last 13 to 14 hours, with morning pickup around 7am and return to Mérida around 8pm It is very convenient and well organized. The descriptions on Tripadvisor, the website, and Viator are accurate and complete. They offered a few pickup points, and we spent the day in a large van with about 18 people. It was not very spacious, but it was new, had good AC, was reasonably comfortable, and was very clean. They even cleaned it between stops to remove beach sand and dripping water. You can also leave your things safely in the van at each stop. The tour includes Las Coloradas with a guided tour, which was actually much nicer than we expected. They even let people swim/float in a designated area, which was a surprise, though my understanding is that this is not guaranteed! After that, there was a 1-hour beach stop, then Río Lagartos with a guided boat tour to see crocodiles, flamingos, and other interesting birds. The tour also included a mud bath on a beach within Río Lagartos, followed by a very tasty dinner at a place where you can shower and change clothes before the drive back. We were the only two people in the group who only spoke English, and all of the guides spoke good English. The guide accompanying us throughout the day, the guide at Las Coloradas, and the boat guide in Río Lagartos all repeated absolutely everything in both Spanish and English, which we really appreciated. The logistics were very well planned and clearly practiced, communication was great, and overall it was an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend it. One piece of advice is to bring cash for tips and for a shop stop between Las Coloradas and the beach, in case you want extra snacks. The first stop on the way from Mérida, at a gas station, also has water, other drinks, snacks, and sandwiches, so it can work as a light breakfast depending on your preferences. They provide small binoculars for Río Lagartos, but they are not great, so I would recommend bringing your own if you have some. Otherwise, your phone’s zoom should do the job. Other than that, bring the usual essentials: water shoes or slippers, plenty of sunscreen, bug spray, ideally a quick-dry towel, a hat, sunglasses, plenty of water, and a change of clothes if you prefer. They also send all communication over WhatsApp in advance, which is very helpful.
It's a long day but well worth it. Every stop was unique. The salt pans ranged from vivid pinks to dusky browns. Really quite amazing and better than I expected. We did see a couple of alligators and quite a few flamingos. Along with a range of other bird life. The boat ride was fun and an adventure. Our beach visit was great also. Just be aware there is no shade - and throughout the day you do need to make sure you have at least a cap and sunblock or cover up. Lunch was very good - our guide chose a local dish for me and the fish was excellent and also I was happy to have a range of vegetables served with it - as sometimes the Mexican food can get a bit heavy. That cocktail hit the spot also! Thanks to our guide Juan and our driver.
I am giving it 3 starts because the locations are great to visit. The driver and our tour guide were OK and the lunch was at a local restaurant with plenty of meal choices. Now to the reason I am only giving it 3 stars: Our location was the last one in the series of pick up points. I was touring with one more person and in this location there were two other people from going in this tour. When our transportation arrived Tony, our tour rep, asked the other two people in our group to get in the van ahead of us. At first I thought it was because one of the other passengers was an older looking female and he wanted to be kind. As soon as we found the last two seats I understood that part of the reason why Tony wanted them to sit at the front was because the back of the van had been modified to seat 4 passengers, 4 very thin passengers. We had no choice but to take the last 2 seats available. The tour was 3 hours away plus time for trips between sites. We were seated in these uncomfortable seats for over 6 hours! I will suggest posting in the description of the tour that some of the seats will be adequate for a young child only and not for a latin female with normal size hips. Whoever designed the seating of this van should invite their mothers or four other adult loved ones to travel in the back seats to the same 3 locations and at the end of the tour request their feedback. Believe me, they will not want to use your tour company again as well.
This tour is excellent value and exceptionally well-organised, packing so many incredible highlights into a single day. We received comprehensive instructions the day before, and having booked last minute, we were seriously impressed. Our guide, Juan, created a wonderful, inclusive atmosphere for the handful of English speakers, and Diego kept us comfortable and well looked after in a modern minivan. Seeing the stunning pink waters and learning about the ecosystem was fantastic. Our guide was incredibly patient and kindly took the time to explain everything in English, which we deeply appreciated as we are in a Spanish and Mayan speaking area. Our boat captain, Martín, gave us an unforgettable experience viewing crocodiles and flamingos up close with total respect for nature. The swims, including the fun Mayan mud experience, were brilliant, and lunch was absolutely delicious with plenty of variety. It was a fun and exhilarating day, respectful of nature and spent with a great group. Highly recommended.
English/Spanish group was fine until salt production and pink lake segment where only Spanish was spoken. We got nothing about that whole process which was the highlight of the tour. The lunch was not good (fettuccine alfredo) because it had no flavor; should have tried real Mexican dish. The ride on river was uneventful. 1st beach stop was dirty with hundreds of bottlecaps, remnants of food, and seaweed. Good points were the driver was great, riverboat captain was great, scenery and wildlife (flamingos) were stunning, 2nd beach was beautiful with clear water, clean sand and a fun body scrub/swim experience.
Saul our guide and Johnny our driver did a great job. The itinerary was good. I have a great time. Really enjoyed it.
Well planned and enjoyable. I never felt rushed and the lunch was excellent! I was able to see lots of wildlife.
Hair raising coach ride out of Merida then enjoyed the stunning pink salt pans along with interesting information by an impressive local guide (unfortunately not in English as requested) although our bus driver made a good effort to attempt to translate. Boat ride was by far the most enjoyable! Excellent captain, saw many crocodiles, pink flamingos, many many native birds (binoculars provided but not even necessary because it was all so close). Then mud treatment near the mouth of the river where it meets the Gulf of Mexico. Wonderful lunch!!!
The trip was great. The tour guide was very good. Los Colorados is a wonderful place to visit. Their tour guide was very informative and easy to talk to. The boat trip at Rio Largartos was awesome! Seeing all the wildlife including a couple of crocodiles was great. The boat guide was great as well and made it fun. Ending our time at the cafe for lunch made a perfect closure for our trip before heading back.
I was sceptical about how pink the salt lagoons would be but was pleasantly surprised! The official tour guide at the Las Coloradas Park didn't speak much English, but our tour guide stepped in to help with English translation. He also took loads of photos for everyone on their phones. Personally I feel that the beach stop in the middle could be skipped entirely to shorten the day. Then the boat ride on the river was good fun and we had crocodiles come right up to the boat! A fun day and something a bit different if you already have lots of Mayan site tours booked.
I enjoyed this tour. Even though the weather wasn't good, the water of Las Coloradas were pink and beautiful. Rio Lagartos was nice, we managed to see crocodiles and some rare birds. It was quite windy though and it rained as well, but that's of course nobody's fault. I was the only English speaker, but Mauricio still spent enoygh time translating everything for me. The lunch was only one main course, which to be honest wasn't enough and almost everyone in the group had to buy extra food. I would recommend adding a starter or a dessert.
My february 18 tour to last coloradas, I forgot the name of our tour guide but he is so kind and caring. I am so lucky to have him, as I am travelling solo joining this tour. While he is driving on our way to each attraction, he is already explaining some history and expectations during the tour which saves lots of time, and so we were given good amount of time per location. The Van is very comfortable and spacious, there are stops for snacks and toilet needs. Thank you very much for the wonderful experience
Activities were nice, wouldn’t call this a guided tour though. The person who was accompanying us (other than the driver) didn’t really behave as a tour guide, as the only information he provided was regarding the itinerary (just once, at the start of the tour), lunch choices and meet up times for us to leave after completing the activities. We didn’t get any insights on Yucatàn or the sites we visited, if not from some local operators that we were left with at Las Coloradas and during the boat tour. Still, these people didn’t speak much English and - in Las Coloradas’ case - seemed to be more interested in getting tipped for taking nice photos of the participants, which didn’t feel informational or authentic at all. Communication from the person accompanying us was scarce and mostly in Spanish, although there were a few international guests who still managed to get by. Transportation for the tour was with a 20 seater mini van. Since we were picked up last and had to go for back seats, having to spend 3 hours with little to no leg room was quite challenging, especially for those of us on the taller side. The drive was quite bumpy the whole time, not because of the driver but due to road conditions - something to be aware of if you get car sick easily. Also we only stopped for a bio break on our way back, so make sure you arrive on an empty bladder. The lunch at the restaurant was below average quality. We were a little unlucky ewith the weather, so we couldn’t really enjoy our time at the beach, but all the places we visited were still beautiful!
Great sites, hosts, driver, boat ride and food! We saw several crocodiles which added to a perfect day!
January is an excellent time to visit because the weather is pleasant and it is the dry season which means few mosquitoes. We experienced none at all. The sites on the tour are very nice. The beach for the swim is practically empty. If you like wildlife, you will like the boat tour. Our boat guide could have spoken louder, but otherwise great. Good driver, safe clean vehicle and good guide.
Lovely experience.. make sure to bring extra clothes.. every guide is very knowledgeable.. had the time of our lives.. make sure you really look at the itinerary.. its a long journey but its worth it.
This tour was simply amazing! It was a long 3 hour drive but totally worth it. We were able get pictures from above (just stairs) and from up close. The views of the pink water were just beautiful. The tour guide explains why some of the water is pink and why some areas aren’t. Be sure to book this on a sunny day, as the water appears to be more bright on sunnier days. The gift shop was cute and they accept card. The private beach was a nice relaxer time before headed off to the amazing boat tour. Pelicans flew right up and landed on the boats, we got to see flamingos, and I was even able pet a crocodile. The boat brings you to another beach to rub the mud on yourself if you’d like, as well as collect some seashells. The boat tour ends by bringing you straight to the restaurant by the water where we got the most fresh fish and amazing chips with pineapple salsa.
The tour was well organized, and properly scheduled. The road was quite long but it was worth it. Our guide Tony did a very good job. The tour on the boat was quite an experience, we liked it a lot! The restaurant was also very good. This was defenately a very nice trip
It was a long ride but well worth it. The van was comfortable so that the ride was acceptable. They had a cooler to keep your drink iced which was nice. I enjoyed the pick lagoon as well as the sight of flamingo and crocodiles. The lunch was also very delicious. Though I was the only English speaker on the tour, our guide Raul had always made sure he covered me after the Spanish introductions.
Wonderful experience all around! Top-notch staff and guides helped us have a wonderful and seamless exploration of the pink lakes of Las Coloradas, beautiful beaches, local culture, and the diverse aquatic nature. The transportation was efficient and flexible, and we drove through beautiful villages and obscure natural regions. The pink water was gorgeous, and the beaches were empty and pristine, with warm water perfect for swimming. Our guides were very knowledgeable, and we had fun interacting with the crocodiles, flamingos, and other birds. The food was a nice finishing touch. The staff even brought materials to learn about the birds and binoculars for us to use. We will never forget this amazing experience, and we have unbelievable photos to remember this day. I would highly recommend this company and this excursion, and look forward to doing something like this again in the near future!
The organisation was excellent and so was the guide. I think that should be something you have to do, if you are a nature enthusiast.
It was great you could put your hands in the pink lake in las coloradas. In san filipe the waves were big big. In rio lagarotas you could see crocodiles and red mangrove and there was lots of diferent birds including flamingos!
We opted for the 12 hour salt mine and boat tour. Juan, our driver and tour guide ensured that we had a comfortable and safe trip. Los Coloradas is breathtaking. Martin Jr, our boat guide offered a once in a lifetime experience of petting a crocodile. He also located a flock of pink flamingos and from a short distance , we were able to watch these magnificent birds move through the water in synchronized fashion. Lunch was delicious and the beach was serene. We absolutely loved every minute of the tour.
While the pink water of Las Coloradas (the brine shrimp in the salt production evaporation pools produce the vibrant colors, just as they do in the flamingos' plumage) is dramatic and the time on the beach at Cancuncito relaxing, the stars of this trip are the wildlife as you boat down the Rio Lagartos. The crocodiles and flamingos draw visitors to the area, but we encountered many other bird species as well--including ospreys, herons, and egrets. The guide/host from Viajes Colibri Yucatan Tours will work with site guides at Las Coloradas and in the river boats to provide excellent background information and help in identifying the species you encounter. Reaching the preserve from Merida requires 2-3 hours each way (depending upon traffic), but especially if you have even a little bit of "birdwatcher" in you it is worth it.
What a beautiful place to visit and learn about the prized salt that is harvested at Las Coloradas The colors of the water are incredible! The boat ride around Rio Lagartos was also spectacular and our guide/driver Raul and Luis were fantastic. The tour was well worth it! Muchas gracias!
The drive is very long which makes for a long day and can be a little tiring. The driver was very friendly.
It was a long day but well worth it! Raul kept us on our toes. Roman was an excellent driver, I wish we spent more time at the beach and less time at the salt mine
Great excursion loved everything about it! The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable and gave us great tips on how to take great photos!
Our guide Tony was amazing. The salt lake was very cool. We saw beautiful birds and had an upfront and close encounter with some crocodiles! It’s a long drive but very well worth it. I highly recommend it.
It is a full day of activities. Bring pesos for the bathroom and eat a good breakfast. Bring sunscreen and a fun attitude.
We booked the Las Coloradas, Río Lagartos and Playa Cancunito tour with Viajes Colibrí Yucatán and had an absolutely unforgettable experience! Our guide Maui (i cant remember his real name sorry!) was exceptional – my friend and I were the only English speakers in the group, and he went above and beyond to make sure we felt included, informed, and cared for the entire day. His knowledge and enthusiasm really made the difference. Yes, it’s a long day with a lot of van travel, but it’s worth every minute. The pink lakes at Las Coloradas were simply magical – so vibrant and fascinating to learn about. After that, swimming in the Gulf of Mexico (Caribbean Sea side) was a dream! The water was warm, we had plenty of time (about 1.5 hours) to relax, swim, and soak in the moment – another sea ticked off the list for this Kiwi girl. The boat ride up the Río Lagartos was incredible. We saw the striking red mangrove waters, flocks of flamingos in their natural habitat (breathtaking!), and even got up close to some playful pelicans – one of them was quite the poser! The absolute highlight was spotting crocodiles in the wild, so close and so awe-inspiring. Lunch was ok– the peninsula didn’t have power that day, so it made sense they could only serve what was possible without electricity. Not bad, but not the best ceviche we’ve had (we think it sat a little too long in the citrus marinade). Still, it was a nice break in the day. All in all, it was a wonderful day filled with loads of firsts for us Kiwi girls– from pink lakes, flamingos, and crocodiles, to swimming in a new sea. Highly recommend this tour, especially with Maui as your guide also i love our driver- again missing his name but was on the 26th September so I hope you can give both out guide and driver the kudos they deserve 💜
This tour was definitely worth the full day experience. The Las Coloradas tour shared a lot of great info about the ecosystem they preserve for salt production and the flamingo habitat. Just be sure you brush up on your Español. My favorite part was definitely the boat ride & seeing the alligators. Tony was an excellent friendly guide, super professional, punctual & had so much knowledge to share on the car rides. If you want a lucrative experience of this part of Yucatan I highly recommend this excursion.
A lot of time on the bus and the driver was not nice, the guide was just okay, the itinerary is decent. The food in cenote is not great
We had a blast! We saw so many animals, apart from the flamingos, which there were A LOT of. We also saw crocodiles, and lots of birds, which all came eerily close to the boat 😅. The pink salt lakes were impressive as well, although in my opinion not the highlight (the animals were). This was a long day trip from merida but they made sure that we had plenty of stops for bathroom breaks as well as stocking up on food. Highly recommended!
Amazing unique experience that you cannot find anywhere else! This is a MUST SEE ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE!!! Loved every minute of it and perfectly planned out. Gracias!! <3
I had a great day at Las Coloradas, Ria Largatos and the beach with Viajes Colibri. The tour ist very well organized and the entire team of Viajes Colibri enjoys their job, explaining details and interacting with the people joining the tour. We had a driver Eduardo and guide Raúl who both were very attentive. The pink in the pictures was no photoshop and thus a marvel to see, during the tour on the boat we saw crocodiles, Pelicans, Flamingos and other types of birds and enjoyed a nice dinner at the end. I can recommend both the agency and the tour!
This tour was a bit of a mixed bag. The destinations themselves were absolutely beautiful—Las Coloradas was stunning, the beach was gorgeous, and the boat tour of the river was fantastic and definitely the highlight of the day. I don’t regret going, as the places we visited were well worth seeing. That said, the bus was completely full, and the long three-hour rides there and back were very uncomfortable. The back seat in particular didn’t really seem designed to fit four full-sized adults. As non-Spanish speakers, we sometimes felt a little out of the loop. The tour is listed as English-language, but in practice that wasn’t always the case. For example, the local guides we were assigned at Las Coloradas only provided information in Spanish, even though they knew not everyone spoke it. Our primary guide also didn’t always repeat his commentary in English—likely just an oversight—but it did cause some confusion on a few occasions. At times it was hard to tell whether he was casually chatting with other guests or sharing details about the tour, and it felt a little awkward to keep asking for clarification. There were some truly magical moments, but I think these things are worth keeping in mind when deciding if this tour is the right fit for you.
I took this tour with my mom, and we loved it! Juan, our guide, was always very attentive and explained everything we were going to do. The places we visited—Las Coloradas, Playa Cancunito, and Ría Lagartos—are beautiful. It was an excellent tour, and I highly recommend it. The only thing you need to worry about is enjoying the experience!
Beautiful pink lake and clear cenote. People enjoy photo taking and swimming in cenote. Guide and driver are nice and keep happy atmosphere in the group. But the time is quite tight!
