We booked this event as a treat during our trip to Tulum…and it exceeded expectations. We learned Mexican culture, myths and history, all while tasting and learning about cacao and chocolate. Sammy is passionate and knowledgeable. We loved it so much we may book one of her other tastings for our next trip.

Sam was so knowledgeable of the food of the God's!! All the different kinds and flavors. At least 15 different kinds. The early grinding of chocolate with almonds, just incredible. Talk about a chocolate high. We got home and are mad we didn't buy more!

Shamira was such a great host! She took us through the history of chocolate in Mexico with such passion, intertwining her story with world history. I loved every second of it! Not only did i leave feeling more knowledgeable about Mexico's history, I also want to do my part in being socially responsible.

The tour takes place in a cozy room with lots of interesting cocoa related pottery on the shelves. History and tradition surrounding the development of chocolate is covered very well and the chocolate samplings were very delicious. Some of the more homemade creations were our favorites. The spicy coated cocoa beans were fabulous!

This is one of the best decisions I ever made. Loved the experience, our host was very knowledgeable and very kind. I am definitely glad I did this. Everyone should experience this…you will never eat American Chocolate again! Truly amazing.

The experience was incredibly engaging, fostering an intimate and interactive atmosphere where questions were encouraged. I loved learning about the diverse history of Mexican chocolate and mezcal. This experience offered an authentic, educational, and truly unforgettable exploration of mezcal and chocolate.

So interesting, educational, fun, and unique. The guide was so nice, we had so many interested mezcal’s and pairings - including crickets! Lots of local nice gifts to buy as well. Love it!

Our recent vacation to Tulum, Mexico, was filled with many wonderful activities, but the Artisanal Mayan Chocolate Tasting Experience was undoubtedly the highlight of our trip! This was the best thing we did during our entire stay. We were already excited about tasting Mexican and ancient chocolates, but this tour exceeded all our expectations. Shamira, who guides the entire experience, is a cheerful host and incredibly knowledgeable about the history and culture of chocolate. She welcomed us into her beautifully decorated room, where the table was already set with various instruments for making chocolate and different types of chocolate for us to try. The setup included cacao beans with different coatings and little snacks to cleanse our palates between tastings. Shamira shared her deep connection with chocolate and how her passion for it began. She then walked us through the history of chocolate, from the ancient Mayans to the present day, highlighting its significance in Mexican culture and other cultures around the world. The chocolates we tasted were fantastic! This experience completely changed my view on dark chocolate, which was delicious and not bitter at all, thanks to the perfection with which Mexicans roast their cacao beans. Shamira also discussed the different types of cacao fruits and various ways of consuming cacao and chocolate. Her explanation was supported by informative slides and explanatory pictures, making the experience both delicious and highly informative. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the Tulum/Cancun area. It was an unforgettable journey into the world of chocolate, and we left with a newfound appreciation for this ancient delicacy.

We had a near perfect trip to Tulum and the chocolate tasting with Sam was the absolute highlight. It was incredibly informative, fascinating and meaningful. Sam has so much knowledge and passion for the topic, and the 2 hours flew by. The chocolate was delicious and we learned so much about Mayan culture--just as much as a trip to the ruins, but right in town and much more accessible.

Samira set was flexible in booking, friendly and engaging. Our time was fun, comfortable and so educational. Not in a boring way though. It was so interesting to link chocolate and history. The quality of the offerings was extremely high. We were able to buy items at the end but there was zero pressure. A great way to appreciate history, culture and CHOCOLATE!

Shamira was an excellent host for this experience. She was very knowledgeable about the history of Mexican chocolates, the plants/trees and how delicate they are when harvesting the cacao pods, the legends of Mexican chocolate and their medicinal purposes. She also explained why European chocolate is not the best chocolate in the world and that there are companies that are still using children as slaves to work the jungles where the cacao is grown for chocolate to major well-known companies. If it is not fair trade, there is most likely child slaves making the chocolate for mass production. She gave so much rich history and was very informative. She showed us the ancient process to make chocolate milk/chocolate water and let us try using the instrument. She has converted me to a dark chocolate consumer as I've never liked dark chocolate because it is bitter. Shamira explained to me WHY the US and European chocolate is bitter. Mexican dark chocolate is delicious and I will only eat Mexican dark chocolate. She told us that if there are more than 4-5 ingredients in chocolate it's not good. I purchased about 4-5 types of chocolate along with the chocolate to make hot chocolate when I returned home. Not only was there wonderful chocolate to taste but she had in her shop Mayan honey that I tried. I bought 2 jars, big enough for me to fit in my suitcase and take back with me. I will definitely come back not just for the informative lesson, but for her friendly spirit and the delicious chocolate.

It was the most fun, educational, delicious experience I’ve had in a while and me and my friends were very happy we had added this to our trip itinerary. It was worth every penny!

This is a fun indoor activity. We really enjoyed trying the real, artisanal chocolate - full of flavor. Our guide is a certified chocolate taster and knew quite a bit about chocolate. We had some difficulty finding the location. The place is across the street/diagonal from the Kaanal Tulum condos on Calle 11.

We had a great time. Very educational history of chocolate. Samira was extremely engaging with both the children and adults and we all had an amazing time.
