When I saw this, I bought it thinking it was an admission ticket—and that it would naturally include a guide service—but that’s not the case. You’re just paying for an audio track, not a real guide. It even caused me to waste time at the entrance because the staff there didn’t recognize this type of service. It’s completely unnecessary; it’s much better to just go straight to the pyramid, buy your tickets, and hire a guide right there. It only costs 700 pesos, and you get a quality experience. Don’t let these apps fool you.

Itinerary
Welcome to the land that the lost civilization of Mayans once inhabited. This place is filled with relics of the past and mysteries that have yet to be unravelled. New, Lifetime access, no expiry. Use it anytime, on any trip, as many times as you want. The tour is over 2 miles long, with more than 37 audio stories, and takes about 1-2 hours to complete.
The Maya civilization was one of the most dominant and advanced Mesoamerican societies of its time.
Easily the most famous landmark in Chichen Itza. El Castillo, also known as the Pyramid of Kukulkan, was built to honor the snake deity Kukulkan. Its impressive and imposing architecture also reveals a lot about Mayan civilization, which you'll learn as you admire the striking structure. Note: This 1.5+ mile long tour covers all the essentials of Chichen Itza in 1-2 hours.
This field is not just a simple playing field, its ties with Mayan culture are more significant as shown by the six sculpted reliefs that run the length of the walls. If you were to look closely, ball players in multiple scenes become visible.
Tzompantli literally means skull rack, and it was once exactly what it sounds like. This represents a place where the heads of sacrificial victims were placed following their sacrifice. The platform depicts warriors carrying human heads, skulls, snakes and eagles on all of the walls.
This square platform with stairways on each side was likely used for ceremonial purposes like dance, ritual or public speeches, it was never crowned with a temple. It was designed as a flat stage for public viewing.
El Caracol is one of the more interesting buildings of Chichen Itza. On top of this structure sit the remains of what was once an observatory. From here, the Mayans would watch the stars and try to infer things about the future based on the movement of the planets.
This sacred site was one of the greatest Mayan centers of the Yucatán peninsula. Throughout its nearly 1,000-year history, different peoples have left their mark on the city. The Maya and Toltec vision of the world and the universe is revealed in their stone monuments and artistic works. The fusion of Mayan construction techniques with new elements from central Mexico makes Chichen-Itza one of the most important examples of the Mayan-Toltec civilization in Yucatán. Several buildings have survived, such as the Warriors’ Temple, El Castillo, and the circular observatory known as El Caracol.
Much like an expensive wedding cake, the Temple of Warriors has three thick tiers at the bottom with a small temple on top. It also features about 200 columns, each of which sports carvings of Toltec warriors in varying scenes.
It is also known as the House of Little Holes as there is latticework on the top of the building that makes it look like little holes. The building’s Mayan name is Chichanchob, which could possibly mean ‘small holes”.
This pyramid gets its name from the numerous human remains uncovered here by archaeologists. Within a cavern beneath the pyramid, seven tombs were uncovered, believed to belong to members of Mayan high society.
El Caracol is one of the more interesting buildings of Chichen Itza. On top of this structure, you can see the remains of what was originally a cylindrically shaped observatory.
El Osario- otherwise known as the Ossuary - was given its name due to the numerous human and animal bones found on site. It is also known as the High Priest’s Grave.
The Nunnery, or Las Monjas, is one of the largest buildings in Chichen Itza. It's also one of the most archaeologically significant, owing to the huge number of texts inscribed into the walls, many of which mention a ruler named Kakupakal.
One of the most photographed buildings at Chichen Itza, it’s exterior is almost completely covered with veneer decorations. Masks of Chac decorate two upper stories. Among the crowd of Chacs there are also an armadillo, a crab, a snail, and a tortoise.

It was a great audioguide that went into great detail about the sites but was never boring and the narrator's voice was pleasant.
The best part of this self guided tour is that you can have your headphones on and ignore all the vendors constantly hocking their wares. Its a good tour but make sure tk find the starting point which us not where you see the first icon. Also download it before you get there. There's no cell service in Chichen Itza.
this waling tour was a waste of time and money, a complete rip off. it could not locate me , i was struggling to find out how to make it work properly and had to eventually give up. DO NOT BUY!!!!
Well worth a visit with a guide. There is a new entrance on the right hand side when coming form ythe Cancun/Tulum direction with a large concrete car park (Cost 124 pesos) and as a tip the older direction signage hasnt been replaced yet, There are lots of people trying to get you to stop before the offical entrance, I suggest that you ignore them I had my wife with me and a wheelchair for her. (You really need wide wheels on the chair) I negotiated a one hour english guide price (Official guide cost is 1,300 pesos) with one of the freelanceers waiting at the entrance who helped me push the wheelchair around (Cost 1,000 pesos) That was a greta help for me as its hot and humid there The guide was very informative and surprisingly to me Chicken Itza is an AD monument We were there around 10.00 am and missed the big crowds coming off the tour coaches which arrived from 11.00 onwards There are lots of sellers along the walking route from the car park into the site and again you should haggle hard
Really recommended as you can walk around listenting to the history of Chicen Itz anad its buildings.
Worth it, great audio guide, can't recommend it enough as it saves a lot on the guide and you can do it in your own pace
Great guide with maps and location, which plays audio. The click to replay audio could be imrpvoed, but the rest was all straightforward.
Very easy to use and a great value for getting around Chichen Itza with the equivalent of a guide. We were really happy to do this tour!
Very interesting information about the site. I could go at my own pace away from the crowds and get back anywhere in the trajectory.
Great experience. It requires good amount of walking if you want to cover all the structures so be prepared. There are a couple of refreshments stalls and a sitting area in the middle of the compound to relax. Guide is necessary but a private guide is quite expensive. You can go with $10 audio guide (action app) that works about the same.
This tour was good for us as we are travelling on a low budget and so this helped counter the high admission fee. We followed the instructions on the app and it worked great. We used wireless headphones between us with one in each persons ear. I do worry on the impact this will have on local guides but with admission being £70 for two people we didn’t have much alternative.
Really good audio tour, useful if you are on a budget and don’t want to hire a guide. Gave me a great summary of the history of the site and a route to follow. It is slightly annoying that if you walk from one zone to another it will stop the track you’re listening to and automatically start playing the next, it would be good if it would complete the one you’re listening to. Also some zones didn’t start playing automatically and I had to select them, but these are just small niggles, I’d still really recommend it! Make sure to download it when you have wifi, and if it doesn’t work at first close all the other apps on your phone.
Take the time to understand where you are so you can align with the guide. Very easy to navigate though.
Well worth the money. Didn’t feel like I missed out on anything by not using a tour guide and solely relying on the audio tour
I was unable to access the tour on iPhone after paying for it. No help was available. Several hours after visiting the site I am still not able to access the audio tour..
This app was an excellent companion for exploring Chichen Itza! It provides multiple language options, which is perfect for international travelers. We chose the English audio guide and found it very informative and easy to understand. The walking tour was well-paced, and the narration added a lot of depth to the history and importance of each site. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to explore at their own speed while still enjoying a rich, guided experience!
Easy to install the app and worked fine with poor service. Our family enjoyed the quality of the content and ease of use. A great alternative to hiring a local guide for anyone on a budget or for a group that prefers to explore at their own pace
Brilliant experience. We could complete the tour in our own time, absorb the information at our own leisure. Such a useful app to use. We got to Chichén Itzá early and made a start so beta the crowds too.!
I loved that I didn't have to deal with any of the guides outside trying to sell me their services. I also liked that I wasn't part of a large tour group. I was able to easily navigate my way around all 40 locations on the tour app. I had my ear buds in and I could use that to fend off the thousands of vendors all along the route. I'd point to my ear buds when they'd try to sell me something or they'd see I had them on and just leave me be. This tool made my visit to Chichen Itza AWESOME. I paid less than 10 USD and I got the biggest bang for the buck with this amazing tour package by Agobe. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making my visit EXCEPTIONAL.
This experience was well worth it. I wanted to avoid the crowds and the tour guides honestly. With this option it was cheaper and quicker. I’d recommend.
A great tool for touring Chichen Itza! We decided to use this self-guided tour instead of paying the prices for a tour guide and not being sure what the quality would be. We would highly recommend using this app. My wife and I shared a set of ear buds and the app guided us flawlessly around the site. The information was very informative and we could go at our own pace. Plus we could venture off the route when we wanted and the app would track our location and start back up when we entered the tour route again. I would suggest taking a cell phone battery charger as we needed to use one half way through the tour. And a great advantage is that we can go back and listen to the tour again for up to a year.
Excellent app, very informative, easy to use, clear and concise information Would recommend to anyone visiting Chichen Itza
Ease of use and our ability to enjoy the pyramids at our own pace. We went off track several times taking pictures or buying souvenirs so when we were ready to get back to the guided tour the gps guided us with amazing insight into each stop.
Very good! In the beginning we had to adkust, but it was overall a great experience. Downside for me: my battery drowned
This experience is well worth if you don’t pay guide and entry prices at $145. Take head phones so you can listen to the whole experience. This trip is easy to use and self guided.
The app knew where I was at all time and the description was so informative and helpful. A must for Chichen Itza.
Amazing and relaxing way to experience the incredible Mayan ruins in your own pace. Great pricepoint, easy to use app and great facts about the sights. The audioguides are GPS-linked and starts automatically when you are in the rigtht spot (you can also start the manually). Only negative was that a new speak would sometimes start in the middle of another speak (Especilly a problem on the walk to/from the cenote). Could also have done with a map and some pictures, as it was sometimes hard to find the right spots, but we managed :) All in all a very nice experience!
Look, Chichen Itza is amazing. Prepare for heat that is hot enough to render your smartphone downloaded with the walking guide useless. While my phone did work, the app struggled with locating me on site and the directions from one point to another were not clear. App could be updated with tips such as, "turn right onto the path overloaded with merchants in 150 ft" Probably an amazing app if your phone can function that day.
App worked really well on GPS. Good information with a good narrator. We would highly recommend 👍 it was nice to walk at our own pace.
Good guidance to experience the site on own pace. GPS worked well and you could stop or repeat explanation if necessary. Helpful to also have the possibility to read not only hear it.
An affordable way to get the most out of chichenitza without the heavy cost per person of a live tour guide. We learned a lot. A good amount of information without being too laborious.
The value of this product is unbelievable. It was our first time using a self guided tour and we will never look back. We loved that it followed our movements and began playing as we reached new areas.
Loved it - really informative and thought the tour came more and more into its own, particularly towards the end. Informative without overloading you with information, sometimes skipped ahead to new dialogues if you moved too quickly but otherwise a perfect app. Recommended!
Ok, so let’s cut to the chase. If you don’t like the tedium of a guide and a guide droning on and obsessing about obscure facts, then this self-guided tour is for you because you can turn your guide on and off and just keep to the bits you are interested in. Also Chichen Itzá is a sprawling site with a few detours and side alleys. This tour keeps you on track to see everything you need to see. It is of course also a lot cheaper than a regular guide. So yes it is worth it. The app needs, however, I think more work. We followed all the instructions. Downloaded the app before entering the site and loaded the requisite information for this tour. We turned off our mobile data as suggested but found that the gps navigation, tracking and prompting mostly did not track a path accurately around the site and sometimes we found ourselves wondering blindly between paths. When we turned data back on, it seemed to work a little better and we could pick out features but it was still inaccurate. You really need to use it in tandem with a map of the site. Nonetheless, we thought it was better having the app rather than not having it - just needs more work.
Very nice way to get an accurate image of the site and its history. Software worked excellent and stories were compelling. Nice cheap method to learn a lot and ideal if you want to do things in your own pace (instead of following a group)
Excellent self-guided option if you prefer the flexibility and independence of not hiring a guide. Felt a little guilty that we weren’t supporting the local economy by hiring a guide but there are many other ways to support.
Helpful and interesting audio tour of Chichen Itza. The auto-activiated GPS prompts didn't work seamlessly, but to be fair, it was in the middle of the jungle! We just advanced through the chapters on our own. Preferred it to having a live guide, because we could go at our own pace.
The app is not optimized for the itinerary very well, and the wikipedia Chichen Itza page got better content.
Me and the wife took this tour while visiting Mexico. Highly recommend! So much information at a great price and the best part is you can go at your own pace. We were able to follow the check points easily and the app knew when to move on to the next topic.
We got to the Chichen Itza and the app was not working, we contact them and no one would answer the phone. Please give us a refund. Thank you!
The positive: It sure beats the pesky (and $$) tour guides with their lame jokes and worn out stories. The app tour narrated details we would not have figured out ourselves. The download was fairly easy. The tour narration is nicely done, with deeper dives for some of the locations. The negative: The location accuracy leaves much to be desired - real life and app location map never matched up. Also, the narration of a previous point of interest stops when the app thinks you arrive at the next POI. All in all, it was OK to have and better than nothing but not a total delight. Takeaway: worth it if you don’t want a tour, don’t have your own guide book, and want some details to help with your visit. Put your navigator hat on though.
The audio guide provided fascinating insights and historical context, allowing me to immerse myself in the grandeur of the Mayan civilization at my own pace. The clear narration and informative content made it easy to navigate the site and understand its significance. Highly recommended for an enriching and convenient visit to Chichen Itza!
Very convenient app. You can follow your own pace, take brakes and continue as you want. Highly recommend this app. Another recommendation is to arrive early - it was very hot during the day.
This was a wonderful guide, with just the right amount of info. It was also a very pleasant listening experience, well-paced, with a little mood music at times, and with a wonderful narrator. As others had suggested, we listened ahead of time on the drive to Chichen Itza then listened again during the tour, to soak up more information. (And a bonus of doing an audio tour at all was less hassling from the many vendors at the site!) There were just a couple glitches that could have made the listening experience completely perfect. It was often hard to figure out where we were supposed to be on the tour, because only some of the time was there clear instruction on where to walk next. The numbers on the map view weren't in an order that was very intuitive to follow in the list of tour stops. I think some improvement could be made here, maybe drawing the map so that it's clear what order to walk around in? My app also kept stopping and starting, which made me lose my place, and the bright sun made it hard to read the screen and find it again. All that said, though, this was a wonderful tour. I would do it again, and I highly recommend it!
Interesting audio information which allows you to do the site without a tour guide. After reading other reviews I was worried it wouldn't work but it works perfectly. The negative reviews are obviously from people who didn't read what they are buying. It's not tickets for the site, it's an audio guide which you download and then you can walk around by yourself. It worked perfectly. It's especially good that you can listen to it before you go and afterwards as well just to make sure you get all the information.
Really nice to walk around on our own and avoid the large crowds. The map is a little off, the audio will start playing before you reach the location, but that kind of makes it more fun as you have to search for what the audio your guide is talking about. I would definitely use this again for future tours
The audio tour worked really well! I was able to use in with the GPS on, so each clip started playing as we got to the right spot. It was super informative and covered more info than a lot of the tour guides we could overhear. We went at our own pace and took breaks in the shade, since the sun was intense.
The place was close I request a full refund pls Horrible experience I don’t recommend this website no more
My husband downloaded the narration on his phone and we shared headphones. It was super easy to follow, the voice was clear and quite emotive making the content interesting to hear. There was background music and also loads of additional information to paint a picture of what it must have been like there. Very happy with our decision to not go with a tour guide. This option gave us the freedom to walk around at our own pace and also re-listen to certain facts if we needed. I'd suggest launching the app and looking at the map right at the gate (after tickets etc.) to orient yourself and get acclimated to the map/app. As mentioned in the description, the app does automatically start talking depending on where you are on the grounds/as you approach a site.
