An incredible day with Gilberto. An excellent guide who took us on a 10 hour excursion to Chichen Itza, cenote Yokdzonot, and the yellow city of Izamal. We learned so much from Gilberto. I felt the tour was perfectly timed, with great locations and truly memories experiences. Gilberto also takes amazing photos if you're wanting group photos.

Itinerary
Our first stop is Chichen Itza. We'll arrive at about opening time so besides having the archaeological site for your own you'll also avoid the heat. A multilingual certified guide (+- 1 1/2hrs) will explain you about the Itzáes, the ancient inhabitants of Chichén Itzá, their impressive 30m/98ft high Castle of Kukulcán (and its solar calendar reflected in it), the largest Ball Court in Mesoamerica and the Temple of the Warriors. After the guided visit you’ll have +- 1hr free time.
After visiting the archaeological site, we’ll go to a remote cenote. A quiet place to rest or take a refreshing dip. There we will have lunch made by the local Mayan women community.
This yellow city with its 16th century convent constructed on a Mayan pyramid and having the second largest atrium in the world, is one of the first Magical Towns of Mexico. We will show you some Mayan structures you still can climb. One of these is the third largest building in Mesoamerica (in terms of volume). Before we head back to Valladolid, you´ll have the opportunity to admire the beautiful work of one of the very talented local artisans Izamal offers: - Cocoyol: jewelry made from local fruit seeds and spine of henequen. - Miniatures: small-scale artwork. - Papier-mâché: amazing work with mâché paper. - Woodcarving: quite common artwork in the Mayaregion

Great experience. The tour is well calibrated. The guide (Jose) is very kind, knowledgeable and fun. We learned a lot. 100% would recommend As stated in the description of the tour, the entrance fee to Chichén Itzá is not included, but that was the only mandatory « extra expense »
Jose was an amazing tour guide. He truly cares about his Mayan culture and it showed through his knowledge of the sites that we went to throughout the day. His presence was informational, and never speaking to the history in a way that wasn’t supported by facts. We learned so much and he was a or of fun to discuss the history of the Yucatán and Mayans with. Would definitely recommend him and this trip :).
✨An incredible experience from start to finish!!✨super fun all the way through! JOSE is an excellent guide: attentive, punctual, and with a great vibe. His explanations made everything more engaging, and his recommendations were spot on. He truly made it an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!
Jose was a superb guide and driver. The itinerary was excellent. Particularly loved the cenote. No complaints, only praise.
We had a great day with Hilberto at Chichen Itza and the Cenote. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I really enjoyed hearing Hilberto’s perspectives on Mayan history as a local person. He was patient with questions and also took great photos of us
We had a great time with Gilberto, who had a deep knowledge of Mayan history. The tour was well organised and interestingly varied, staying the right amount of time at each stop. We would highly recommend for anyone wanting to get a better insight into Yucatán history!
A great combo experience - José was very knowledgeable about the area as a local. Getting to Chichén Itzá before the mobs from Cancun do is definitely a bonus! There is minimal cover there during the lectures at various spots, so be sure to bring sun protection! There may be umbrellas in the transport van. The cenote was beautiful - we were a little sad that bulky life vests were required as that made it difficult to swim around very well. The water was perfect. The food was delicious. Izamal was picturesque, and it was neat to climb a Mayan pyramid. It was typical for a multi-stop tour in that you really want more time at each place to explore, but you're on a timeline. They balance it as best they can.
Really good guides! Highly informative, interesting and very serviced minded! Very nice cenote and really good lunch! Perfect day!
Gilberto was a fantastic guide, he was super knowledgable. The day was well planned and varied and there was enough food for lunch!
This is a great combined tour. Our guide Jose was excellent, deep knowledge of Mayan history and a fun guy. Highly recommended
Loved that we were in a small private group (only 4 plus the guide.) He was extremely knowledgable and a wealth of information.
Great experience! The trip was really well managed and Gilberto is really prepared with his explanations and really nice! Highly recommend!
We had a wonderful day with José. Such a nice and knowledgeable guy. It was a private tour with lunch included. José was perfectly on time with excellent service. There was no rush at all. Communication with the MexiGo Tours team was swift and impeccable! We couldn’t recommend them more. Thx so much for such a wonderful day!
This was the best travel tour experience I have ever had! We had private transportation and an intimate tour from a local who was extremely kind and educational. Would recommend to anyone.
Don’t miss this one! We enjoyed a full day of fun, mixed with education and relaxation. Our guide, Jose, picked us up on time in a comfortable vehicle with extra water and snacks. He got us to Chichén Itza early so we could get our tickets and start the tour before the crowds and the heat. While the absolute temperature was very warm that day, there was a wonderful breeze helping to cool us. Jose is very knowledgeable about the Maya history and even brought visual aids! His English and accent is very good so we understood everything. We then stopped at a most beautiful cenote to cool down further and relax. This was followed by a freshly cooked Maya lunch in a clean and casual atmosphere during which time Jose and we got to know each other better. We were never rushed. We next were taken to Izamal to experience its beauty and gain more knowledge. We were introduced to a few of the local shop keepers and did not feel pressured to buy anything. Jose bought us some ice cream! After we toured a bit more of the city and beautiful basilica, Jose drove us comfortably home to our hotel, before dark, at dinner time, and we didn’t even miss out on the flowing house tequila!! This tour was worth the cost, every bit. My only hesitation before booking was the no refund policy for which I felt silly afterwards. If you know you will be in Valladolid, then know this: book this tour and have no regrets! And bring pesos. You may need them for the entry fee and will certainly want them for the tips to the fine chefs and to your most excellent guide! Jose, hasta pronto!
Gilberto was a great guide-super knowledgeable about the region and Mayan culture- and also very personable. We really enjoyed our time w him and would highly recommend the tour to anyone considering it!
It was so far the best trip we could have made in the peninsula. I visited Chichen Itza 3 years ago but this time was different (in a good way) - Small group: we were only 5 people. - Early arrival/few tourists: since Valladolid is close to Chichen Itza we arrived at 8am to the ruins and there were few other groups. You could take as much pictures as you wanted and no tourists in your pics :) - Weather: arriving that early you avoid the tremendous heat. - Tour Guide: Jose loves his job. He is so prepared and tell you cultural information. He was SOOOO patient giving us the time to take pictures and available to wait for us when we needed to buy some water, buy souvenirs or go to the bathroom. - Tour in English: Jose’s english is perfect
A great day. As others have said, it was well worth being at Chechen Itza as early as possible - the SUN! Having a guide was a big plus too - we would’ve missed so much and found everything he shared so interesting. The cenote was beautiful, and lunch was good. We specifically looked for a trip that included Izamal and are so glad we did. It was such a lovely town. The time absolutely flew, even though it’s a long day. It was great to be back in time to have a shower and then head out for dinner. A huge thanks to Haberto for being the BEST guide and driver!
MexiGo Tours has put together a tour offering a perfect combination of history, archeology, geology, nature, a road trip and a quaint and curious yellow town! Our guide, Gilberto, was both knowledgeable and personable, facilitating a good comraderie among us tourists. Gilberto's knowledge of architecture, sports and history really brought the ball court and grand pyramid/temple to life for us! His information helped us to appreciate the wonder of ChichenItza and the Mayan History, as opposed to being overwhelmed by the presence of multiple crowds of tourists and a Starbucks! Gilberto;s commentary allowed us to leave all that behind us! The road trip from destination to destination was in itself spectacular, with lots of see along the way. We particularly appreciated Gilberto's taste in travelling music, which was very Mexican!! The Cenote at Yolkdzonot was fascinating, not too cold, and great for pictures. The Yellow Town of Izamal was so beautiful, and we were surprised to find that some festival was on there that day! We particularly enjoyed climbing the ruins of a pyramid/temple when we were there. Many thanks to Gilberto and MexiGo tours for an informative glimpse into the history, architecture, terrain, geology and culture of Yucatan. We appreciated the glimpses into real rural Mexico on our road trip!
This day trip was very intense but we loved every minute! José, the guide and driver, was amazing: on time, kind, very attentive and very knowledgeable. The visit of Chichen Itza under his guidance was sooo interesting! I will definitely recommend!
Amazing day with our guide José! He really knows his stuff and tell the story of the Mayan culture with such passion 👍👍👍
Great tour! Pickup was on time and we got there before the crowds and worst of the heat. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time at the end to explore on our own. The cenote and lunch were fantastic and supports the local village. Overall a great day out to explore many areas around Valladolid
Great tour with excellent guide Gilberto. I would recommend this tour to everyone ! It gives you a variety of activities and full day of fun.
Pick up was right on time outside our hotel. Jose, our guide outlined the itinerary for the day at the start and ensured we all had enough water for the day and even provided us with snacks. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the ruins and the Mayan culture, and explained it in a relatable way and in manageable chunks. After the guided tour, we were given free time to wander around Chichen Itza with some recommendations. The visit to the cenote was refreshing and the lunch that was included on site by the co-operative was simple and delicious. Our last stop to Izamal was just as interesting. Jose was excellent and was happy to answer any and all questions we had. It was a small group of us which made the tour more enjoyable and Jose took great care of us.
José did a great job and took us into the deepest depths of the Maya world. I think this tour is the perfect mix between recreation and historical exploration.
Chichen Itza speaks for itself but the cenote was beautiful too, the food was okay, Izamal was pretty and the guide was great.
A wonderful day out with a great guide who was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Great way to combine a few attractions. Thanks
Really enjoyed this tour, it packed a lot in and provided a huge amount of information along with relaxing at the cenote. Highly recommend
Jose, you made our time in this part of the world so memorable. It was hot, it was busy, but the Chichen Itza experience followed by the awesome cenote (plus lots of really interesting stories) was incredible. To then spend the next day with you on the Go Monkey tour was a treat. We had so much fun on the zipline, canoeing, jumping in another cenote, cycling around the Coba ruins, seeing spider and howler monkeys, and having a great lunch with you! Happy to recommend to others, wish you all the best.
Gilberto was an excellent guide again for our Chichen Itza tour. Starting a Chichen Itza tour from Valladolid definitely seems like the better option compared to Cancun or Merida, as we arrived there not long after it opened, so you're not there in the worst heat of the day. Gilberto imparted a lot of really interesting knowledge about Chichen Itza during our tour. Yokdzonot cenote was lovely, and the lunch provided there was excellent. Izamal was very pretty, with 'bonus' Mayan structures that we wouldn't have seen if not for this tour.
We had an amazing full day with Jose, our tour operator. The fact that we left early (7am) from Valladolid helped us reach Chichen Itza at opening and enjoyed a couple of hours there before it got too crowded and hot. The visit at the Cenote was very nice, and same for the little town of Izamal. I would definitely recommend booking this tour for anyone who wants a small group and a full active day!
Perfect way to explore the Yucatán. Our guide was Jose - passionate and knowledgable about the Mayan culture and region, he spoke excellent English and had a great sense of humour. He made our day extremely comfortable and enjoyable in the 41° degree heat of the day. Our lunch at the Cenote was delicious. Guacamole to start followed by a selection of dishes, the chicken fajitas were perfect for a full day of sight seeing. Highly recommend.
Jose was a fantastic host and incredibly knowledgeable, as well as speaking (at least) 5 languages and effortlessly switching between them on the tour. We learned a lot about Mayan culture and the history of the area, as well as seeing some incredible sights. Would highly recommend if you’re staying in Valladolid and want to pack a lot into a day at a great price. The cenote was magical!
Gilberto gave us an amazing tour of the chichen itza and izamal. A lot of humour, fun times and interesting facts. It is a long day but completely worth it!
We had an excellent day yesterday on this trip. We were picked up from our hotel at the time advised and arrived at Chichén Itzá early before all the crowds. Jose Gilberto our guide was brilliant - full of knowledge, personable and fun. After a guided tour we were given an hour to wander around ourselves. Swimming in the Yokdzonot Cenote was amazing - well worth doing even if you are a bit anxious about it - so tranquil. The local lunch was delicious. The trip to Izamal involved being able to climb up the temple ruin (if you wanted to) with amazing views of the time - definitely felt that we’d stepped back a bit in time. The trip home at the end of the day was topped off by Gilberto’s eclectic music taste. A brilliant day and a fine way to end our holiday in Mexico. Thank you Gilberto!
Jose was very knowledgeable and friendly. The best part was swimming in a beautiful and uncrowded cenote at a cooperative and having a lunch with the best, most authentic homemade tortillas I’ve ever had.
Great tour - it was absolutely worth to get there early in order to beat the crowds! Gilberto was a great guide
We used Mexigo tours "GoWonders". First off I believe that using Valladolid as a jump off point for Chichen Itza is superior to booking a tour from Cancun. You will be able to get in and leave early when the crowds and heat become unbearable. Gilberto is a solid tour operator and very funny.
We had an excellent day with our tour guide Gilberto from MexiGo Tours. The day started early with pickup from our hotel in Valladolid at 7:30am. We went to Chichen Itza. Gilberto gave us a ton of interesting information about all of the different structures in Chichen Itza, it was very fun and informative. He was willing to take pictures of us at any time we asked. After the official tour which last about an hour and a half or two hours, he gave us an hour of free time to explore, take more pictures, and buy souvenirs. After that, we went to Cenote Yokdzonot which was absolutely gorgeous. We left our belongings with Gilberto in the lunch area and went down to enjoy the swimming in the cenote. The water was so cool and refreshing after a hot morning in Chichen Itza. There were several lunch options available, including grilled chicken and steak. We opted for some fajitas with fresh tortillas, and they were absolutely delicious. Finally, we went to the yellow city of Izamal. We received a short tour of a small museum and and a convent, then were given some free time to walk around and take pictures. I wish we had thought to take a carriage ride while we were there, but we forgot. There was a pyramid in Izamal that we were told by our tour guide we were allowed to climb up if we wanted, but to be very careful because it wasn't taken care of. I went up with my husband, but I would not recommend it at all. It really is not taken care of and it felt very dangerous coming back down especially. Finally, we were dropped off directly in front of our hotel in Valladolid. MexiGo Tours made the experience so easy and fun. They even had cold water bottles and cookie snacks for us, which we really appreciated. I would definitely recommend anyone staying in Valladolid to use MexiGo Tours. It was a wonderful experience!
Absolut brilliant tour. José is awesome, has so much to tell and really brings Mayan culture alive. One of the best tours I ever did. Highly recommend. You are super early there before all the tourists arrive, that alone is worth it
Our guide José Gilberto was fantastic all day, he had incredible knowledge and answered all of our questions very well. Chichen-Itza is a fascinating place that was made much better by our guide. Would 100% recommend!
A brilliant and well-planned trip! José our guide was excellent in explaining Mayan history and culture and really helped us understand Chichen Itza. Cenote was beautiful! We had a really great time and felt very looked after by José who was amazing all day!
Our family of 9 had a great time on this tour. Gilberto was awesome, friendly and knowledgeable and fun! We loved Chichen Itza. The cenote and lunch were incredible and Izamal was beautiful.
Chichén Itza was stunning, made so much better by being there when it opened at 8am to beat most of the crowds. Our guide, Gilberto shared lots of information and insight into the site, Mayan culture and the history of the area.
Our guide was Jose and he made this trip exceptional! We were four people speaking English and two only speaking Italian. He switched flawlessly between the languages and gave us a deep insight into the history of Chichén Itzá and the Mayan culture. He also made sure that we arrived before the big tourist bus groups arrived (both at Chichen Itzá and at the Cenote afterwards) and had drinks and fruits for us after the site tour. Would highly recommend everyone in Valladolid to book their tours and explore the surrounding area with them.
Gilberto was an expert guide, with a great sense of humor and a deep well of entertaining stories. Highly recommended!
Gilberto was a fun guide, speaking to languages at once is no mean feat! He was prompt and his talk about Chichen Itza was informative and interesting. We arrived at 8am while it as still comparatively cool and very few people so we were glad to not have the huge crowds until just as we were leaving. He had water for us all day, and we refilled out bottles many times. We had plenty of time at Chichen Itza to explore on our own, and then we went to a very nice cenote where our group were the only ones swimming and it was very beautiful and refreshing, The lunch was a very nice two course meal. The last stop was Izamal and the focus was the biggest Mayan temple which is HUGE and right in the middle of the town. This one you could climb the stairs to the top. Then he did a little walking tour around the main square and a small art museum that portrayed the historical making of basket weaving etc. We were back in Valladolid at 6:30pm - overall a great day.
Chitchen Itza is a must do if you are in the area. It is an impressive and large site. The tour was well organised, skip the line to get in etc. Guide was good, but we were left to explore a very large part of the site for one hour and half hours unguided. We went to a cenote for lunch, which was pleasant. The food was tasty but cold. We drove on to Izamal, nearly everything was closed, including the convent, which was a shame. I wanted to combine Chitchen Itza with Rio Lagartos, which sadly Mexigo don't offer. Ek Balaam, I found overprice, and while it wasn't touristy like Chitchen Itza, if you go there then you probably don't need to come here ( unless you have particular interest in archaeology). The tours are professional and well run. I wanted to do Rio lagartos with Chitchen Itza, and if I had my time again. I might stay in Tizimin, combine both in a day with a private tour as sadly, Mexigo don't combine the two. Otherwise a good day, with a good guide, Gilberto.
Our amazing guide picked us up at our hotel exactly when the booking said he would, took us to Chichen Itza right when it opened, helped us beat the crowds for tickets, and guided us through the site, making it a much more enjoyable and enriching experience than if we'd gone on our own. I appreciated having a more local/Indigenous perspective on the history and meaning behind the ruins, with a bit of humor in the mix! He had his official tourism license and was clearly a regular face around the site (based on how many of the vendors and other licensed guides knew him). Only 2 other people were on our tour - 4 of us total - so it felt very personal and the air-conditioned van was comfortable! The lunch and cenote swim after Chichen Itza were a welcome cool down/pit-stop, and the extra excursion to Izamel to see more Mayan ruins plus the beautiful convent and plaza area was amazing! I appreciated that the itinerary built-in time 'on our own' at each of the 3 locations, and how smooth and professional the whole experience was. Try the corn ice cream and tip your guides well! 5 stars!
