We didn't actually go on this boat trip. We were scheduled prior to arriving at Hotel Rio Lagartos, where we stayed the night before our tour was scheduled. We asked the gals at the reception desk about when and where the tour left the next day and they had no idea what we were talking about and knew nothing about tours that included food at the hotel. We walked a block away and met with Diego of Rio Lagartos Adventures, the top rated and most experienced guide service in Rio Lagartos whe had also never heard of this guided tour service. He did find it online and it was rated 21st of 21 options and had only 14 reviews. Not knowing if what we had booked was legit we booked with him for the following day. That morning a different receptionist at the hotel desk said yes they do have tours but we were not on the list despite having paid for it a week prior. We have requested a refund from trip advisor and had an excellent tour with Diego's daughter, Andrea. We saw more than a dozen species of birds and both fresh and saltwater crocodiles. She was very knowledgeable about each animal we and was able to describe their migratory and nesting patterns and behaviors.

Itinerary
The meeting point is the Rio Lagartos hotel located in the town of Rio lagartos, where our certified guide will be waiting for you who will accompany you to the hotel dock to take the boat. Once on the boat/boat, the tour will begin through the nature reserve surrounded by mangroves and beautiful vegetation. During the tour you will be able to see numerous birds of the region, crocodiles and, with luck, dolphins. The guide will give you an explanation of each species you see. They will continue the tour along the coast of the reserve until they reach the area known as “Las Coloradas” where they will be able to observe the majestic flamingos in their natural habitat. The guide will also take you to the area where you can get off the boat and take the traditional Mayan bath, which consists of self-exfoliation with the clay found in the water. After the tour, you will return to the Rio Lagartos hotel where the staff will be waiting for you with a delicious breakfast or lunch at the “Salitre” restaurant to relax and refresh. You will be able to use the hotel's facilities such as bathrooms and showers.

Reviews
The tour advertised visiting Las Coloradas and being taking for a Mayan mud peeling and swim. All we got was a tour of the river, not the Coloradas (which you can only see by driving to it as we lesrned afterwards) or the peeling despite it being advertised. We complained about it but the manager refused to speak to us personally (he hid in the office) or give even one cent in refund despite having paid 70 euros each. The issue is that the tour is advertised in a way which is not actually what happens. When booking on tripadvisor it doesnt tell you when the tour actually is, so we contacted the hotel offering it. We were told the morning is the best time for a trip, but the guide actually said it depends on the tide as a high tide means the wildlife moves into the mangroves and lagoons which boats can't access. For us, sunset would have been much better, according to the guide himself. My advice is to book a tour elsewhere. Advice for the hotel is to update websites you advertise on and not promise anything you do not deliver. In addition, have better communication between yourselves, the guide, and customers so everyone knows what is supposed to happen.
Our boat captain worked hard to get us good views of flamingos. He poled the boat through the water too shallow for an outboard motor. Our boat trip was 3 hrs and the fresh fish lunch after on a covered table on the shore was very good.
Wonderful day, so thrilled to see flamingos up close and so many other wonderful birds in the area. Our guide was wonderful! Highly recommend!
I would recommend this trip to anyone. If you are in the rental car you can easily park it at the Hotel Rio Lagartos. During our boat trip we encountered several crocodiles, flamingos and pelicans! Our tour gide took all the time for questions and at the end of the tour took us to a beautiful stretch of beach where we could swim. All in all we had a successful morning which we ended with an otherwise delicious breakfast / lunch at the hotel!!
It was a complete tour, the Adrian guide, with complete information about birds and crocodiles. I recommend taking the 8 am tour to see many birds.
The excursion was amazing, we could see flamingos, birds and crocodiles. We left at 7am, perfect schedule: we were one of the few boats. A very important point for us: respect for animals, the boat never gets too close to not disturb the ecosystem. The guide is passionate, it is a real pleasure. We recommend 200%, even for me who was afraid of water. The meal at the end of the visit and the attentions of the staff are more than pleasant: everything was perfect. Thank you very much for this memorable memory
It was an amazing experience with Roman. We saw many birds, crocodiles, and flamingos. We recommend 100%. Roman is passionate about his profession and it shows. Thank you very much for everything
The attention and explanation of the tour from Miss Melisa was very good. A pleasant and unforgettable experience with Captain Manuel, the fear of the boat disappeared thanks to them, their kindness and attentions made it possible, thank you very much! I recommend the tour 100%, “Level Unlocked” 😊🙏🦩
Wonderful experience! I enjoyed it from start to finish. Francis was very friendly and explained the beauties we visited during the tour.
Great time in the mangroves! We had the chance to see crocodiles and many birds in a beautiful setting. One of the most important moments of our holiday! Thank you to the whole Pension Rio Lagartos team and to our Captain of the Day!!
I have to highlight the attention of the staff, very good all explanation and recommendations. They always kept an eye on us. I'd definitely come back.
Super organisation We left at 8am with Marty as Guide who allowed us to approach crocodiles, eagles, cormorants and flamingos
A fantastic trip, which we booked directly at the hotel with good help from Eugenia. We wanted to start the tour at 10:00 and end with lunch, having to drive from the town of Valladolid. We could pay by credit card upon arrival at the hotel. Order was accepted for lunch before departure. When we got on board the boat, the towels were ready and water in the refrigerator for us. We came out and sailed with Arial, who in fine English explained about animals and plant life. We saw eagles, crocodiles and the pink flamingos. And we tried the Maya mud bath. Finally Arial sailed out to the sea (mouth), where we could rinse all the mud again. Back at the hotel we got delicious limonade and snack before the food came. All in all a really good trip and great service from both the hotel and Arial.
Very well organized tour in respect of animals. Beautiful landscapes. Hearty lunch at the end of the tour.
Amazing place, the sunsets are amazing, you live with nature in close proximity, excellent place to relax and disconnect.
Un super accueil et une jolie balade en bateau où nous avons pu observer des flamants roses. Bon spot aussi pour déjeuner sur le ponton.
