Brilliant tour, very informative
A fun and tasty learning experience for all ages, combining a little bit of history, geography and chemistry. Our tour guide, Lee, was very knowledgeable and friendly and made the whole visit very pleasant. The length of the tour was about right and we got lots of samples and an opportunity to make our own Halloween lollipop which went down well with all the participants!
Excellent tour with a unique and friendly team. Lee was excellent at engaging with us and sharing his knowledge about chocolate.
It was interactive and informative. Josh made the tour fun and interesting. I definitely recommend
My husband and I really enjoyed our guided tour around the york chocolate story. Our guide Gina, was very entertaining and so friendly. The tour was quite hands on with lots ot chocolate tasting and even a chocolate lolly to make. We particularly enjoyed the film with interactive photos of the historical people of York chocolate families. The venue is super clean and staff all very friendly and helpful.
The staff were incredibly. They were so helpful and accommodating both my physical needs and dietary requirements Our tour guide made sure i had a space for my wheelchair throughout the tour and confirmed my dietary needs everytime something was handed out
Josh was excellent, well informed and made the tour fun. The woman that booked us in (didn't get her name) was polite and friendly. Samples were a great addition. Would recommend
The tour was interactive with plenty of samples along the way. There was an opportunity to make our own chocolate lollies. Our guide Rose was fantastic and very knowledgable. We particularly enjoyed "meeting the families"
Great experience and our guide Mr Lee is very knowledgeable. We enjoyed the visit.
The tour was great. The tour guide Rose was very knowledgeable and friendly.
A fab experience! Josh was our guide and was so enthusiastic, engaging and entertaining. Mark showed us the chocolate truffle making and was very informative and answered my children’s questions. The staff at the entrance and in the shop were also very friendly and helpful. Delicious hot chocolates from the shop. My children said it was their highlight of half term. Thank you!
Wow this was so fascinating, I honestly didn't think I would enjoy it but very enjoyable. Chris our guide was extremely knowledgeable and cheerful. Lots of little samples handed out and we made our own lollies at the end. Huge thanks to Chris for making it an enjoyable tour.
Dan was an excellent tour guide, full of energy, humour and knowledge. The tour was engaging and entertaining for everyone, with lots of little tasters along the way
Harriet was a fantastic guide, she was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and made the tour very accessible for our kids. We all absolutely loved it and have already recommended it to others!
My wife, our two children and I went on the tour today, and what a fantastic experience it was! Although our youngest is only 3 weeks old and managed to sleep through the entire tour, our 5-year-old daughter, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. We were lucky enough to have Dan as our tour guide, and I honestly can't praise him highly enough. From the moment we stepped out of the lift at the start of the tour, he had everyone's attention. His enthusiasm, knowledge and ability to involve everyone made the whole experience so enjoyable and memorable. Dan is an absolutely fantastic guide and a real credit to the company. It's clear he genuinely loves what he does, and that makes all the difference. To anyone thinking of booking this tour, I really hope you're lucky enough to get Dan as your guide. He'll turn a great tour into an unforgettable experience! Thank you, Dan, for making our family visit so special. We couldn't recommend it highly enough!
A fab way to spend a little bit of your time in York. Our guide was fantastic, very enthusiastic and engaging, made the tour very enjoyable, we had a Coeliac in our group and she made 100% sure everything the tasted was safe for him to eat. Lots of tasting on the tour and thecwhole chocolate journey was explained in a super way. Highly recommend the chocolate tour. Made chocolates lollies to bring home.
The lady (think it was Harriet) delivering the tour was lovely and funny, she ensured everyone was involved and listened to, including children. The tour itself was interesting and included lots of chocolate! Was timed well too.
I can’t recommend this enough! The guide was lovely and really good at explaining things. Such an interactive experience - with lots of chocolate tasting! Definitely worth it :-)
Loved the tour we completed - and the samples!! Harriet was our guide and was fantastic, she bought the experience to life, looked after everyone beautifully and engaged with everyone in the group. Was very interesting to learn the history of chocolate in York, and then go on to make a chocolate lolly. Also loved there was no pressure in having the photos you can have taken done, or pressure to spend in the shop as you left. A thoroughly enjoying experience which I would recommend.
Great experience a travel through Yorks History, great for all ages and you get to make your own chocolate lolly.
Josh our guide was very good and polite he told the story well and demonstrated clearly highly recommend. Many chocolate tasting opportunities.
Harriet was our tour guide and she had our attention right from the moment our tour had started. There were 4 of us in our party and 2 have been previously. The new look is lovely and we all really enjoyed ourselves. The lolly making at the end was just a perfect way to finish the tour and watching the chocolates being made was informative and tasty! We had our photos done which came out perfectly and also bought some gifts from the shop which were really lovely. Harriet is a real gem and im really impressed with how well she looked after us.
Great tour, we were full of delicious chocolates! The tour guide Lee was fab
Fabulous experience! Engaging and funny commentary from Harriet - you didn't feel she did this several times a day! Lots to learn, all in different methods and mediums and engaging for all ages! Lots of chocolate on the way around and a great lollipop making experience at the end
Lee was a great tour guide, very knowledgable, enthusiastic and made it a thoroughly enjoyable experience for us, plus some lovely chocolate to eat both during and after the experience.
An amazing chocolate tour! Our guide Sarah was very knowledgable and catered for the whole group, including the big kids in the room. Very interactive and reasonable pricing in the gift shop. We will be returning.
Lovely morning spent on a tour of the history of chocolate as a chocolate lover it was a must! The guide was Amy and she was great full of enthusiasm and energy her knowledge was very helpful too took me back to being a kid remember different chocolates I used have which was lovey. It was great toward the end getting involved and making a chocolate lollipop to take home. It was a lovely experience and if definitely recommend it
Guide was very knowledgeable & had a good sense of humour. Girl who made the chocolate was very miserable & robotic. Tour was ok but not worth the money. Kitkat free treat was stale, other free chocolate was sickly & white chocolate that we made was very poor & decorations on it were poor & didn't stay on.
Rachel our tour guide was lovely. She was brilliant with all the kids. Very knowledgeable when asked various questions. Chocolate samples were lovely and it was nice to taste proper chocolate without palm oil in!
All staff were friendly and accommodating. Josh (tour guide) interacted well with everyone in the group and kept the children engaged
It was our first time exploring this venue, you entered into a gift shop full of chocolate delights, some were made on site and others brought in by other chocolate companies. The admission fee was reasonable for the venue we were a party of four. The length of the visit was 1 hour and 15 minutes. I believe the crowd size was 29 people per tour. Rose was our tour guide and for someone who hasn’t been there long she explained the experience very well. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of York’s chocolate industry.
Great experience, lovely guide explained the history very well, demonstrated chocolate making , organised tasting and making our own sweets. Guide Dan was particularly enthusiastic and told the story well. He was very attentive to safety and looked after the participants with access issues very well.
Enjoyed a really enjoyable tour with our fabulous host , Austin. Lots of interesting facts all delivered with great humour. Would recommend to both families and singles when visiting beautiful city of York
Me and my son loved it! Chris, our tour guides told as information about the history of chocolate in such a fun and engaging way. Lots of chocolate samples during the tour. Highly recommend for all ages.
Our tour guide was Gina. She was very knowledgeable. The tour was very informative and Fun. We learned about how the chocolate business evolved, how to make chocolate and we got to taste some chocolates and even got to make our own chocolate Lollies! I paid a little extra to get a personalised chocolate bar and it was lovely. I would recommend it.
Try and book the day before, cause it’s a bit cheaper. It’s quite expensive - . I wasn’t expecting it to be so good but I was in New York anyway so I thought I’ll give it a try Gina was our guide and she was absolutely excellent I’ve actually been to Cadbury’s world and I’ve also been to Hersheys in America This was very different and I was very impressed
This tour was way better than we imagined, my little girl had been with her school and loved it so it was a must when booking a trip to York, our host Amy was lovely, funny and engaging and the number of tasters through the tour was amazing and very much enjoyed by us all! This tour was the highlight of our 3 day trip to York.
It was OK, maybe we just weren't as lucky as others who all seem to have had super entertaining guides, we didn't. Also the area where you "make" chocolate lollipops is very echoey and at times there is more than one group in there, if you have any hearing issues it is difficult to hear your guide when the other guides are bellowing to their groups here. My daughter enjoyed the fondue in the cafe, but I could have saved £30+ entrance and just taken her there instead!
Load of rubbish personally. £35 for that diatribe!!! Once you pay your £35 you can sit in the cafe and watch everything your about to see on the TV behind the counter, great!!!
Our guide was Chas. Fabulous energy, great knowledge, professional, fun and entertaining. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Would highly recommend!
I went with my teenage son. We had a great time. It’s a super experience. Our tour guide Jamie was very knowledgeable and also entertaining!
Jamie was our tour guide, he was very friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, a very enjoyable experience and not just for kids.
Was so impressed by the tour..and especially by Gina, our guide. The tour was very informative and FUN. We learned about how the chocolate business evolved. We tasted chocolates and even got to make our own! What's not to love!
Honestly amazing, they gave out loads of samples and were really friendly!! Louie our tour guy, was absolutely amazing, he was friendly, full of information and honestly just really funny too!! 100% recommend.
Me and my sister thoroughly enjoyed this tour. It was an outstanding experience that was entertaining and incredibly education. We also participated in the truffle and chocolate lollipop classes which were a delightful and delicious experience. We were captivated and in awe the whole time at how well this tour is set out, the beautiful scenery and the unexpected facts! I can’t recommend this activity enough. The staff were all helpful, kind, funny and engaging!
Really interesting history of chocolate made in York. Fun experience with plenty of tasters. Charlie the guide was very humorous and added to the fun. Will be recommending to my friends that it is definitely worth a visit
Terrible, they phoned 5 minutes before we arrived to ask if we could come much later as the guide hadn't turned up,we said no as we had booked other tours, so she said in a sarcastic manner."oh well come then".So when we arrived we joined the rest of the tour ..6 people ! and off we went with a very over the top male guide wearing cracked black nail varnish.Very poor tour ending with a white chocolate lollypop. Very expensive for what we got, but I suppose they dont care with the it been in the tourist location
This guided tour was a bit of an expensive event at £18 for an adult, but you do learn the history of York's chocolate industry. I loved the throwback to old Rowntree products and packaging, a real trip down memory lane for this 90s baby! I heard stories of strict Mrs Craven from Dr Deathly's ghost tour earlier in the week too (and her high 'lifeguard chair' to supervise her workers) and it was nice to put a 'face' to the name. You also get to make a chocolate lolly and have a few samples, including the 'original' Aztec chocolate drink - and you can taste chocolate at almost every step of development! While I (funnily) didn't mind the Aztec chocolate drink, the 100% chocolate had us all pulling faces. At the very end, we got to taste the Passionfruit offering, which is currently being sold as heart-shapes in honour of Pride weekend. It tastes just like a Solero! A very sweet touch. The guide was a jovial, friendly bloke and did a few ice-breakers with us at the beginning - asking us where we were from, our favourite chocolate, and he's very knowledgeable on international brands too (I often have to give explanations about mine, but he recognised the brand straight away!). One of the jokes he made at the end directly to the kids about their parents 'not loving them' if they didn't provide sweets on demand was a record-screech moment though, given they were all pretty young and didn't really pick up on the humour (the adults didn't laugh, either). I'm not aiming to get the guide rollocked for mis-reading the room, and I might've expected a quip like that on ghost tours with sarcastic hosts and older kids, but it was a small blip in an otherwise brilliant tour. You can sit or stand throughout the experience, and there's a lift too so it's quite accessible for a variety of different needs. The under-5s in my tour group were getting bored and restless however, as there's a lot of fast-paced talking - all of the direct hands-on interaction is at the end - so is better-suited for families with older kids in my opinion. The lolly making went down a storm with everybody, though. And finally, the shop at the end is pricey but a good area for gifts and souvenirs for home. I bought two chocolate bars as gifts before bidding farewell to the Chocolate Story. Recommended, especially if you've enjoyed Cadbury World and similar attractions. It's smaller, but still has a lot of heart and soul.
We really enjoyed the tour. Louis was fantastic. We liked his enthusiasm as well as his knowledge of chocolate and he made it very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting York.
