Tour Operator canceled tour last minute due to the guide having car trouble. We reauested a refund, not rescheduling on another date as was offered, and as of today, two full weeks later, we have yet to receive a refund in spite of multiple requests for updates on refund status.
We had a small group of four, and our guide was very willing to adjust the tour specific to our needs and desires. Dave Haw was very knowledgeable about the history of York and how it fit into the bigger picture of Yorkshire and all UK. Dave was very informative, and he welcomed every question we could come up with. I would recommend this tour for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of York.
It was a rainy day and we were the only people on the tour. Dave has been doing this for many years and he certainly knew his history, the town and almost everyone who lived there. It was the most fun tour we did in the U.K. We spent most of the day with him and he was still willing to show us more. What a great guy and great experience!
Dave was lovely and very knowledgeable ! We told him we planned on visiting York Minister later on in the day and he offered to take us on a guided tour of the inside as well, which i’m super grateful for:)
Dave was great. A real character with great knowledge of York
A brilliant trip! The guide was so knowledgeable and brought the Minster and the old quarters of York alive with fascinating detail.
Dave Haws was a fantastic tour guide full of knowledge, wit, and local charm!
Had a great tour and discovered much about the history of York. Had lovely people in our group which made the entire experience even more brilliant! Highly recommend.
We toured the Minster outside and circled the cathedral while listening to lengthy history and dates , Mason works, restoration and such. I asked to walk the surrounding walls and we did. We cut the tour short to get lunch at a champagne garden. The end.
Dave was such a good fella, my initial tour was from 1-3 but he kept walking me around the sights until close to 5pm so I had a better understanding of this historical city. Couldn’t recommend highly enough
We had an incredible time, our guide was the most knowledgeable we've ever had. Great value for money and a lovely bloke. Thank you!
Great experience. Dave is incredibly knowledgeable and has an encyclopedic knowledge of Yorkshire and British history. We had a lovely wander through the Shambles and around the Minster. Definitely would recommend.
Dave was welcoming and gave us a lot of dates and facts.
Brilliant tour guide who is extremely knowledgeable. His memory for dates and historical data is quite simply phenomenal. We did the Hidden Gems and History tour but as the rain battered down in the morning, we also spent time in Minster Cathedral. This is also a MUST SEE with Dave Haw taking you around!
Dave is a wonderful, quirky guide. He is both knowledgeable and quite laid back. My wife and I enjoyed this quite inexpensive tour.
Excellent walk. Davey was engaging, a true wealth of knowledge. Set a comfortable pace and gave us many laughs along the way Highly recommended
Shared tour with Dave. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and clearly enjoys his role as a guide. He tries to make it fit to the needs of the group, depending on how in depth you want it. We had a larger group than normal, which made it more difficult for him to do this . We really enjoyed, learnt a lot we wouldn't have done from a book, but were ready to finish after 2.5 hours so dropped off then , although others were happy to continue. We had already toured the city walls the day before, so missed this bit out. Dave certainly wasn't offended and was happy for people to leave when they wanted without issue
Have is incredibly passionate about giving you the most in depth tour possible. Dave will take as long as you you want the tour to last and has no qualms about time so long as it meets your expectation. He is incredibly knowledgeable and adds humour in just the right amounts. Book and you won’t be disappointed.
Dave is an amazing guide. Funny, kind, witty, and, most importantly, a walking encyclopedia of information about a fascinating city. If possible he will cheerfully spend extra time at locations that you have a special interest in. Absolutely recommend his tour!
I wanted to give a good review bc I generally love tours. Unfortunately this tour was not the best. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly but difficult to understand at times. His accent yes but also his way of telling the history was a bit disjointed. He tired out quickly and complained about other tour guides and the minster guide situation. I would have preferred a different guide.
Overall it was enlightening and informative, however we booked the early morning tour as it was a Saturday and York was to be extremely busy. This Tour was cancelled and the email from Trip Advisor to advise us of this went to Spam so we did not see until we arrived at the meeting place accordingly. We tried to contact Trip Advisor to no avail and turned up for the 1pm Tour the same day - York by then was heaving with people so the Tour was abbreviated to suit and was a larger Group than both the Guide and we preferred.
Dave was a great guide and a wealth of knowledge. He knows his history of York and England. I'm so glad we booked this tour.
Dave was extremely informative & interesting providing a fantastic tour with his extensive knowledge and good humour in addition.
Dave is one of the most knowledgeable people I've yet to meet - what he didn't know about York (and the rest of the UK it seemed!) and it's history probably isn't worth knowing! He adapted the walk to what we wanted to see, and around our time constraints. Well worth the money.
Dave (Dave Haw Tours) was amazing tour guide. He was knowledgeable, friendly, flexible and humorous - the perfect tour guide
Dave was a great guide. We had a morning tour but enjoyed it so much we stayed into the next tour he had for the afternoon. He had a easy manner and was very knowledgeable. He also introduced us to many people at many places along the tour allowing us to ask questions of people that worked or volunteered at the sights. Highly recommended would take again.
We went on a Sunday tour with Dave, and had an amazing afternoon. Informative and entertaining the same time, the stories and facts Dave shares will stay with you! No gimmicks or theatrics—just great history and interesting tales. We especially appreciated the details he shared about the little things we’d have missed walking around York on our own. Dave is a thoughtful and hospitable tour guide, and we’d definitely recommend spending a few hours with him in York.
I highly recommend Shared York Walking Tour - Hidden Gems and History .. with Dave Haws. He is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic the history and people of York. Besides a city highlights tour he sprinkled in amusing stories as well as some modern day real concerns about the conservation and reconstruction of York’s gothic cathedral. My husband and I found the tour delightful and engaging walking tour. *****
David Haw is a wealth of knowledge and is a great character. His knowledge of history is encyclopedic, and where he didn’t have an answer to a question he didn’t hesitate to say so. He was funny and generous, encouraging us to join the next group because we had taken longer on our tour. I would highly recommend David - you won’t be disappointed.
We had the best time with Dave! We learned so much and saw many things we wouldn’t have seen or noticed if we had just explored the city by ourselves. Absolutely 100% recommend doing a tour with him!
Dave is a wonderful tour guide. He is so knowledgeable and entertaining! He took us through so much of York and even added the Minster to our great delight. He was willing to answer our many questions and encouraged our curiosity. It is clear that he loves what he does and enjoys sharing his knowledge with others.
David had amazing insights about York! We enjoyed his storytelling and his vast knowledge of history. Lovely (though rainy) afternoon spent! I definitely recommend!!
David had great insights about the city. We enjoyed his enthusiasm in storytelling and his vast knowledge of history both of York and in general.
A quirky, funny and very informative tour with Dave, who has impressive knowledge, doesn’t make answers up, and has no end of amusing stories to share. We loved being part of a small group, and as I am hearing impaired, it allowed me to gather most of what was being said. He was generous with his time and we enjoyed every minute of it.
Dave was so knowledgable and friendly he made this tour a great way to spend an afternoon! Really glad we got him as a guide to take us through York.
Our train was late so we raced to the meeting spot to make the tour and so very glad we did. Dave was fantastic! Incredibly informative and entertaining. York Minster, the wall, the Abbey - so much knowledge and presented in such a good-humored manner. We especially appreciated the side tour of Holy Trinity Church that Dave was able to give us (a true gem that would easily have been missed.) An excellent introduction to York - highly recommend!
Dave’s shared history knowledge and stories about the city were amazing.
Thoroughly recommend. Dave was extremely knowledgeable and gave a fascinating insight into York’s history.
Had a great tour with Dave who was very knowledgeable and has a passion for history.
Dave is such a gem! He is so knowledgeable and we learnt so much, we also had a lot of fun, he’s a hilarious bloke!
Fantastic tour, I overheard it while visiting York and was so fascinated by it that I tagged along and left a donation at the end. Dave is extremely knowledgeable and entertaining! Thanks again, Paulette 😊
Dave is so knowledgeable about York and showed me places I never knew existed. His enthusiasm is infectious, fabulous tour. 🥰
Characterful and knowledgeable guide who kept the tour interesting and informative. We were quite amazed at how well our guide knew his history and how enthusiastic he was given he’s been doing tours for a long time!
Dave was a great tour guide and an Absolute Mine of Information !!! The walk wasn’t difficult and is easily doable for the Elderly amongst us. His knowledge of the history of York is unsurpassed. Give yourself a couple of hours to do the tour and get back to your starting point. Well worth doing with Dave for the Education.
Dave Haws was the sweetest Yorkshire man who loved to tell stories and share his life with us. I thoroughly enjoyed feeling like I was walking with a family member on his tour.
Dave is an excellent tour guide. He is so knowledgeable and puts the information across in an understandable, and humorous, way. It is certainly not ‘off script’ which what we like. The tour was tailored to our small group and we certainly felt like we had seen some hidden gems. I would highly recommend this tour and Dave.
You saw and found out things about the City, which you wouldn’t get from a book or walking around d by yourselves. David was so interesting and knowledgeable of the area.
This is without doubt the best tour I ever went on, without exaggeration. I joined the tour by chance and am very, very happy about it. I love history and Dave knows everything about medieval York. We spend hours walking around the cathedral and York and he managed to answer nearly every question we had, even the obscure ones. It is ages that I had so much fun during a guiding tours, many tour guys I met just followed a script without much enthusiasm or deep knowledge about their topic. So if you love history and want a very very deep dive, I cannot recommend Dave enough.
Dave Haw was excellent. His knowledge of local history was outstanding and he delivered it in a very friendly way.
