Shadows Of York: Ghost Walk And Horrible History.

A most excellent experience.

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish, perfect instructions for meeting up nice and easy. This was our first time on one of these tours and it did not disappoint. Thourghly enjoyed the whole experience. Our guide (a lady, cant remember her name sorry) was just brilliant.

Dan was brilliant, we had a lot of fun and some really good ghost stories. I recommend 😊

Amazing experience. We had a tour from Mackenzie and she was fabulous, an incredible story teller. We got to see some new sights around York and had a few spooks along the way.

We had a fantastic time on the Shadows of York ghost walk! Due bad weather /storm, McKenzie kindly texted us to offer an alternative date and even arranged a private tour the following morning, as we were travelling home that afternoon. It was a brilliant walk around York, full of horrible tales, ghost stories and fascinating history. Our two boys absolutely loved it, and so did we! McKenzie was informative, entertaining and made the whole experience great fun for the entire family. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting York! Thank you, McKenzie, for a fantastic experience! Excellent stories told about York's past, but be aware, they are ghoulish sometimes. Charlie, who was our guide was awesome.

A very entertaining guide (Charlie) and a great way to spend 1.5 hours walking around York. The whole family enjoyed this and would definitely recommend this.

What a fun and interesting way to spend a Friday evening. A perfect mix of history and tales of spooky occurrences. Charlie was a fabulous guide, showing us parts of York that we would generally walk by without thinking about, now perhaps, we will stop and look. Perfectly balanced tour with a 12 year old. Kept his interest and lots to talk about afterwards and made him want to know more. A miracle in itself. Highly recommended.

We used this as a starting activity for our weekend break in York. Dan, our guide was thoroughly entertaining. His enthusiastic performance was great fun and made the hour and a half seem too short. In addition to touring the inner city, we learnt some history and some very interesting ghost stories. Would highly recommend.

The ghost tour was great and Dan, our tour guide was both informative and very entertaining. The only fly in the ointment was the Get Your Guide website, which wouldn’t allow me to download our tickets, but we contacted the woman who runs the ghost tour and she passed our tickets onto Dan, so that he had them for when we arrived. So whilst me and my husband 100% enjoyed the ghost walk, the Get Your Guide experience was poor so I wouldn’t recommend booking your tickets through them. Maybe try to book direct instead.

We came again for the ghost tour as we did last year as we enjoyed it so much. Dan was out guide for this evening (August 31st) and was brilliant , engaging, animated. The weather was perfect for a late summer evening stroll in the company of ghosts and historical tales. A magnificant way to kick the start to your York holiday . Highly recommended. I recently had the pleasure of going on Shadows of York's Ghost walk. It was a great tour - a fabulous mix of interesting history and chilling ghost stories. Our guide, Charlie, greeted every guest warmly and showed a genuine interest in our time in York so far. Throughout the tour he maintained that bond with all members of the group. It was a joy to watch Charlie deliver the stories and anecdotes - extremely knowledgable, highly entertaining, funny, clear and detailed - it was very easy to see how much he himself enjoyed taking us on that journey. I would very much recommend this experience - I thoroughly enjoyed my evening out in York and in with the Ghosts.

Great ghost tour - not gimmicky and learned a lot of history about York. Tour guide Mackenize was very good - she really knew her stuff. I aprpeciated all the research she has done for the stories that she tells. Highly recommend for a fun night out with friends!

We absolutely loved this ghost walk. Packed full of amazing stories and detailed historical information. It was funny and just about creepy enough to keep us on our toes without totally spooking my 10 year old son. Monika was brilliant.

Had Dan as our guide and had a fantastic time, especially appreciated the jokes and puns. For 2 of our party this was our first time attending a walking tour and we would absolutely book again! Dan was great at considering accessibility for those of us in wheelchairs and was mindful to advise us where dropped curbs were and if the pavement was difficult to navigate. Accessibility can be a big anxiety and Dan took great care of us! Thank you for a fantastic tour!

Mackenzie is a great storyteller on this spooky tour fact and fiction combined tour. Chilling and shocking stories about York and it's once inhabitants. Held my attention throughout at the shocking stories. The walkabout to various locations sent chills up your spine in the dark and on the meet up outside the guy fawkes inn, questioning us on our lodgings with stories of ghostly goings on in each a good start😱. I highly recommend this tour entertaining, captivating and spellbinding with a great tour guide who got your imagination running riot at an excellent price too. 👍👏

Excellent tour. Monica was engaging, humorous and knowledgeable. Bought water for anyone that needed it which was thoughtful and free too. Places visited and stories told were interesting and funny at times too. would highly recommend.

Brilliant tour - full of history and ghost stories. Monica was excellent at story telling and really captivating. She did really well at the start too when some drunk bloke tried to interrupt the tour and was really professional at dealing with the situation. Felt really comfortable, walked at a slow pace and didn’t feel rushed. A lot of stories I have never heard of before. Would highly recommend.

Monica was amazing! I booked this tour for both me and my partner and we both loved it. Full of fantastic information and I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.

I took my 6 year old son on this tour on Tuesday. He was by far the youngest person but McKenzie was very accommodating. The tour was just on the right side of spooky and although there weren’t any punches pulled on some of the descriptions, there weren’t no jump scares or things that bothered him. It’s clear that McKenzie has a passion for York and it’s pretty grim history and she was very knowledgeable about the truth of certain events that have common misconceptions or misinformation surrounding them. She also spoke passionately about paranormal activity and her first hand experience. If you’re in York and you have any interest in it’s past or ghosts, it is well worth going on this tour.

Fantastic Ghost Walk and Horrible History tour of York. Having lived in York and now living out of the county, it is nice to find fascinating facts from fantastic people. Great value and thank you for your passion and knowledge, delivered with just the right amount of theatrics.

This was a nice ghost walk through York. Our guide was really excellent and a great performer, funny and very engaging. The tour had some good history and helped us get our bearings on our first night in York and wasn’t too long or crowded. It wasn’t too grotesque and I got the sense it would be good for families, as there were some younger kids on the tour that seemed to have a good time. We booked the tour a little too early- it probably would have been better to start after dark, but that one’s on us. Definitely a great tour for the price!

The Ghost Walk was really fun and interesting, our tour guide was funny witty and very nice. All in all a great time that doesn't occupy too much of your day.

This was a great experience for our study abroad group! It was easy and simple to book for a private tour and I experienced clear communication with the staff. Our guide Mackenzie was super entertaining and told us a bunch of spooky stories. I'd recommend for an affordable option thats worth the money!

We joined this tour on Monday and had a lovely time. Our guide was Charlie and was very engaging and kind. The very first story involved someone in the crowd who happened to have stayed in a haunted room and had asked to move the night before the tour, without knowledge of it being haunted - this seemed to have shocked Charlie as well as the members of the group and gave credit to the story straight away which is always interesting and validating! Some of the stories are similar across other ghost tours so I had heard some stories before … but to me, that provides consistency and potential further validation of accuracy?! I would recommend the tour, though likely not return only because I had heard some stories before but that’s a reflection on me, not the tour!

This was an excellent experience. A very friendly and welcoming tour guide, but with a very apt, dark sense of humour. The tales told were a carefully balanced mixture of historical facts and more supernatural and speculative ideas, all bound together with an fantastic amount of entertaining patter and conversation with those of us on the tour. Overall, a very worthwhile experience, and highly recommended, regardless of what precisely you are looking for.

Really enjoyed the tour and Dan was a great storyteller! It was a fantastic way to explore the city and would recommend it especially if you are new to York. Sadly, we had to slip away 10-15 mins before the tour finished as my daughter was feeling unwell so unfortunately missed the end.

Really enjoyed our walk with McKenzie! She is a really compelling storyteller, effectively weaving social history, personal experience and ghost stories, and making mundane places come alive. We learnt a lot about the city - highly recommend.

Fantastic and well informed guide. Offered lots of information with a hint of comedy. Kept us all focused with her wonderful ghostly stories and gruesome history. York is a fantastic place to visit and booking one of the many tours hosted by Shadows of York was certainly one of our highlights. Thanks for a great evening walkabout.
