What a character. Loved what he does and he is definitely the best tour guide we have ever had. We were treated to a lot of ‘wandering’ about the knooks and crannies of York. A story at each corner. Thanks Dave, will see you next time we are in York.

Dave was wonderful. His knowledge of York is very very impressive. We loved all his stories about fantastic York. We especially loved his sense of humor and generosity of spirit. Thanks Dave:)
Very thoughtful and helpful guide who gave us his undivided attention
Highly recommend Dave Haw! Dave welcomed us in to an existing tour, with the approval of the tour members, when he could see we are history buffs. Dave gave us an out-of-of the-ordinary, “locals’ view” tour of York. He was knowledgeable, entertaining and smart. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
Brilliant! Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Went beyond our expectations and brought the Minster and the rest of York to life. Highly recommended
Wow! Dave really knows his stuff. How does he know so much. A very entertaining tour, full of interesting information. If you want to know the real history and real honest facts. Book with Dave. Absolutely brilliant. Great sense of humour mixed with great stories.
Dave was brilliant! Knowledgeable and friendly and full of insider stories. He had encyclopedic knowledge of York’s history to the present day. We greatly enjoyed spending the afternoon with him. Emily and Steve.
Very knowledgeable, informative and enthusiastic guide. Highly recommended.
Fantastic narrator, story teller, unbelievable knowledge pouring out of Dave with much enthusiasm. If you show him you are interested he will continue to share and walk with you. He made our day in York ...we toured the minster with him followed by city gems. Best thing we did here. Did I mention what a character he is??? !!!
Dave is a walking encyclopedia of history! He was a phenomenal guide and pointed out things we never would have noticed or learned about had it not been for him. His thick accent was a bit hard to understand at first, but it was fine. I highly, highly recommend getting a tour with Dave!!
You won't have a more authentic Yorkshire experience than touring with Dave Haw, who is a wonderful character and very knowledgeable. What he'll do is, he'll take you for a wander.....
Myself and my wife both chose to go on a walking tour of York Minster and the operator we chose was Dave Haw.. We could never have chosen a better tour guide!! His knowledge of York Minster times dates and names of people involved in making the history of York is absolutely incredible. During the tour he rolled off names and dates at a phenomenal speed. Which everyone on the tour found amazing. We are both from London so we are used to going on tour guides around historic London. This tour with Dave Haw was by far the best tour we’ve both ever been on. His humour and his constant ‘Lets have a Wander’ In his strong Yorkshire accent was hilarious and had all the guests in stitches!! We thought the tour would last an hour or so but we had to call time on it after 2 1/2 hours such is his enthusiasm for the history of York! This reminded us of seeing Ken Dodd live on stage. We thought the show was for 2 hours. It started at 7.30pm and finished at 12.30sm. Simply amazing!! Carry on with your enthusiasm Dave for the History of Beautiful York Minster. Because your customers love and truly appreciate what you do. Dave told us during the tour that he was computer illiterate. We’ll take it from me no computer could ever keep up with the knowledge Dave has inside his loaf of bread.(Head)😁 If Carlsburg had tour guides Dave Haw would be their number one man. Dave you are simply the BEST!!!! So a massive thank you to the worlds number one Tour guide.Mr Dave Haw👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥂🥂 100% rating and a definite 10 out of 10👌🏴🏴
If you’re touring York I strongly recommend choosing to do so with Dave Haw! From his lovely West Yorkshire Riding accent to his deep historical and culture knowledge, Dave had our multi-generational group (including teens) deeply interested in every part of his tour. He knows all the local gossip, modern and medieval and everything in between, and kindly stayed with us far beyond our booked time, tailoring the tour to our own interests as we expressed them. So interesting, knowledgeable, amusing and kind! Just what a great tour should be. So happy we booked. Thank you, Dave! We hope to be back!
Interesting tour with extremely knowledgeable guide. Would not hesitate to recommend Dave.
Dave is a brilliant guide. His knowledge combined with witty humor and wonderful stories absolutely bring York to life for his audience. His cadence and flexibility on tour make each tour different. He knows absolutely everyone in town and you can tell he is well loved and respected. You’ll see areas you won’t see on any other tour. Book with Dave! You won’t regret it. We feel so privileged to have received his perspective and history of this wonderful city.
Brilliant tour. Dave is so knowledgeable. So much information. Adapted the tour for our group so it was even longer. Brilliant. Joined him afterwards for an excellent dinner at Guy Fawkes pub. Highly recommend Fave Haw. Lucky if you get him!
Dave was so knowledgeable and went the extra mile to deliver a spectacular tour! Thanks Dave!!!! I wish all tour guides were like Dave.
David has such depth of knowledge. He brought the tour to life as he shared the history surrounding York Minster , the city walls and more .. It was such a treat to benefit from his enthusiasm and obvious love of history
Really enjoyed this tour with Dave. Walked around parts of York & later included the Minster. He has a lot of knowledge of the history of York. Highly recommend. "Let's go have a wander!"
Outstanding tour. Make an effort to book with Dave Haw Tours
I did Dave’s Friday am tour solo and it was great 👍🏻. I didn’t have much time (approx) 1 hour and Dave was able to tailor a whistle stop tour of the main history highlights of York for me. He was extremely knowledgeable and the tour was really informative! I was only gutted I couldn’t have spent longer!
I had a solo tour with Dave Fri (am) and it was really enjoyable! I was short of time (1hour) and Dave was able to give me a whistle-stop tour of the main highlights of York history! He was extremely knowledgeable and able to tailor the experience to exactly what you are interested in. My only regret is that I didn’t have longer! A really lovely way to spend an afternoon.
Dave was a great guide, he knew his stuff and put in lots of detail. He was very friendly and professional and kind about me being rather slow and not good with steps. He would have gone on for longer but we had to get back for a show at the opera house later on. We would love to meet up with him again on our next visit and would recommend him to anyone. Les and Irene Parry.
I warmly recommend Dave's tour of York. He brings a lifetime of knowledge of his city, a high level of enthusiasm that drives the tour at a pace that is carefully calibrated to his customers needs and wishes. This is a "bottom up" tour: Dave's experience of York is not that of a grandee but of someone who has worked his way up through a working career. But he has studied the history and social mores of the city. I have done a lot of city walking tours. His is one of the best
My partner and I had an incredible time on our tour led by Dave. He is so knowledgeable on all things York and is very charismatic in his delivery. As you walk around you get the sense that you’re with a true local guide, we would recommend to anyone visiting York not miss his tours.
Excellent & Entertaining Dave is a delight with a level of historical knowledge way beyond Google, AI and any encyclopaedia! A walking tour like no other, we had so much fun whilst being introduced to the hidden gems of York, stories, facts, historical gore and intrigue and the significance of this astonishing city. All brilliantly delivered by Dave 🙌
There is so much to see and do in York and unfortunately our tour guide was more focused on telling us about random stories that really didn't support the historical elements of the places we were seeing. It seems he wanted to continually reinforce that what everyone thinks of York as being medieval is actually not true and focused on this over and over. There was only our family of three on the tour which would have made customizing the tour much easier, but it appeared that the guide had his route and only wanted to cover the topics he wanted. When we asked questions, they were either brushed off or just ignored. This tour guide definitely didn't "read the room". We eventually had to tell him we were done and preferred to go off on our own.
Entertaining and informative. Loved the parts about the stone masonry work. He answered all our queries. Dave certainly knows his stuff.
Dave was very entertaining with incredible historical knowledge of York, really entertaining and engaging tour , great guy, highly recommend
We stayed at the Guy Fawkes Inn and were eligible for a complimentary tour. My wife and I were the only ones on it so it was effectively a private tour. Dave was prepared to spend the whole day with us and nearly did but for the fact our train home was at 4.30. He has extensive knowledge about everything in York but importantly he is full of enthusiasm for his subject which is great to see. He's very flexible adapting his tour to suit individual needs and stopping for refreshments on request. We all enjoyed a drink in the Blue Boar famous for Dick Turpin. If and when we revisit York we'll be in touch with Dave for a tour when there's less time pressure. Would thoroughly recommend Dave Haw to give you a tour if you are in York. Last but not least Dave is a genuine, friendly and overall a decent bloke.
Excellent walking tour. Dave shared a wealth of information about the history of York. Took the time to explain each landmark/area we stopped at in detail. Very informative! Tour was approximately 2 hours. I happened to be the only one who joined so it was just Dave and I but it was very very good
Our tour did not go as we had hoped. With limited time that day, we wanted to quickly visit specific places but the tour started late and we ended up spending too much time walking around our guide's favorites before finally seeing areas we wanted to visit. Our desired tour spots were generally derided and it seemed we were only going to be shown places our guide deemed of merit. But this affected the limited time we had to do other things that same day, so we were unable to accomplish all we had hoped. Plus, we didn't appreciate being asked to include others in a private tour we paid for, or our guide's habit of conversing with other guides in passing which interrupted their tour as well as ours. I decided it best to end our tour early to see & do things we wanted while we still had time.
Our tour guide was amazing. He is apparently a fixture in York, because everyone we passed, seems to know him and called him out by name. My family, our history buffs, and he really demonstrated a vast knowledge of York, it’s architecture, important, political, and religious figures in its history. We particularly enjoyed his detailed tour of the York Minister. I can’t recommend him enough.
Fantastic trip. Dave is full of interesting knowledge about the Minster where we started. Funny odd facts made the tour interesting. He went over from 10.30 to 1.30. We did a tour off all the abbey grounds , shambles, to the castle. Little alleyways and great photo shots from different angles. Thanks
The tour was made very interesting and enjoyable by David who has a vast knowledge and you can tell he enjoys his job and wants to share his enthusiasm for his subject.
If you love history Dave is your man. He knows it all and is just a joy to experience York with! He literally lights up when he tell each story. Truly loves what he’s doing.
Dave is a gem! We spent an entire day with him and he introduced us to so many treasures in York. And so many people in York stopped over to say hello to Dave and he introduced us to them as if we were old friends. We connected with Dave on an amazing level over our shared love of English history, more specifically Tudor and Plantagenet history. We spent amazing time in the cathedral, invited him to have English tea with us at Betty's and later that evening, he joined us for Evensong at the cathedral. We were so sad to have to say goodbye but we plan on returning to York and hope to spend more time with him and his amazing friends who are also guides in the cathedral. Thank you Dave - you are officially a member of the Lee family and we hope to connect with you soon so we can keep in touch via emails and shared photos.
We stayed at Guy Faulkes Inn which was Amazing!!! Dave Haw was so personable and his knowledge of English history was literally mind-blowing!! York was just a quick stopover on a train from Southampton to Scotland and Dave helped make York one of our favorite days on our 21 day trip! So Fun! Incredible bargain too!
Dave was fantastic. Highly knowledgeable and very hospitable. You can tell that he has a real passion for his work!! Would highly recommend him for a tour around York.
Dave is a highly knowledgeable guy, and a very easy-going tour guide. He was very personable and his passion for his craft is unmatched. We had a wonderful time learning of York, and would highly recommend him to anyone else.
I found Dave very informative and generous to share lots of information. York is a special place with incredible history. Dave was attentive to the groups needs. I would recommend taking his tour.
This was a fantastic tour. Dave’s knowledge of the history, the stories he told, and the time he took with us was amazing. We highly recommend Dave Haw for the serious traveler who is interested in getting a lot of information. This was a highlight experience forus
David was AWESOME! We started off in the Minster and David went into the history and provided details and little known facts (and legends) about various elements of the structure and stained glass. We went under the Minster to see the discovery of Roman ruins and how they stabilized the structure. The remaining of the city tour was equally informative and entertaining. I will defunct be back!
Dave’s knowledge is amazing. He is so enthusiastic. Also, great to have a guide that talks loudly so you can actually hear clearly what he’s saying! He welcomed questions and was keen to elaborate on topics that we were interested in.
Dave is a real Yorkshireman, with an intimate knowledge of the city. I am an architect and his insights were valuable to me, especially regarding the wall and Yorkminster.
Dave is a great tour guide. He has bags of knowledge. What he doesn't know is not worth knowing. Nothing is any trouble for him. He doesn't want you to miss out on anything and wants you to have the best experience. He also makes the tour a fun experience with all his "extra info". Loved it. Would highly recommend. Such a great way to discover York - very informative, enthusiastic and a limitless wealth of history knowledge. It was a fabulous way to spend my birthday!
I tort your wert great B-road yorkie brogue and full of excellent information. His recall of dates was fantastic really enjoyed the 2 hours .
What a fantastic walking tour we have had today with Dave Haw, he had an amazing knowledge of the City, and showed us many places we didn't know about such as the birth place of Guy Fawkes . Dave is a lovely man and a great tour guide. We really enjoyed meeting him today .
Dave overheard us talking about Saint Margaret Clitherow (house on the Shambles) and gave us a free guided tour. An absolute master of local knowledge with a warm approach and friendly personality. As a York resident I would certainly recommend him if you want to know more about the City.
