Five-star tour is an understatement! The value of this tour to experience Yorkshire was incredible! Truly a great experience from start to finish. Easy pick up and drop off. Incredibly clean luxurious transportation. Wonderful sites to see. Great snacks and the guide knows all the best places to experience a coffee or an ice cream. Truly we felt cared for. Our tour guide, Andrew, was very knowledgeable, warm and flexible. We never felt rushed, we were able to experience a lot of the North York National Park and the Yorkshire coastline, at one point we were lucky enough to see a take off and landing at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. I’m looking forward to using this company for the Yorkshire Dales, too bad we only had a short about of time. What beautiful landscape we experienced in England. We learned so much history, but never felt overwhelmed by the knowledge being dropped on us. I would recommend them to anyone.

Itinerary
During the course of the day we will drive through the beguiling, sublimely beautiful and largest county in England, Yorkshire. In fact many simply call it Gods County. We will see the extraordinary variety of landscape from the very flat and rural Vale of Yorkshire to the steep lofty and other worldly scenery of the North York Moors. Along the way we will get out and explore different locations so you can really embrace and experience what a wonderful place this is and never just spend too much time in the vehicle. Nice surprises and sheep sightings are always included! If your trip to the UK includes visits to to the world class cities of London and Edinburgh then you must include Yorkshire as the perfect counter point to demonstrate what extraordinary variety this wonderful country can offer.
Helmsley is a beautiful English Market Town nestled in the North York Moors National Park, it is know for its charming appearance and the ruins of Helmsley Castle.
We will drive through large sections of this dramatic and famous national park finding out so much of interest as we journey through this precious, rugged and beautifully timeless landscape . At opportune moments we will get out to explore this special place.
Whitby is one of the most interesting and wonderful sea side towns in England, it is connected with many fascinating pieces of history real and fictional. Just by setting foot in this wonderful location you feel like a sailor. pirate or explorer of old. In Whitby you will get your first view of the dramatic gothic ruins of Whitby Abbey, which famously inspired Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’. At this point, you are welcome to go off and explore the many interesting sights and attractions Whitby has to offer, either on your own or with your guide Andrew, who can accompany you and show you some of the fantastic hidden charms of this ancient settlement by the sea--the choice is entirely yours.
We always go up to the abbey and see it from the OUTSIDE. It is a private tour with great flexibility so if guests wish to spend longer and go inside they may, this of course is always subject to opening hours of the abbey which are beyond Expedition Yorkshire's control.

My daughter and I booked 2 full day tours with Expedition Yorkshire, both led by Senior Guide Richard, that were absolutely wonderful. Richard picked us up right at out hotel and led us on a deep dive of beautiful Yorkshire that went so much further than typical tourism. He is a native of the area, and his knowledge abounds. He also tailored our tours to us and was lovely, responsive and flexible at all times. Also a shout out to Andrew, who always responded immediately to my emails and questions. Expedition Yorkshire surpassed my expectations in every way. I highly recommend them to those wanting to really experience Yorkshire and discover all it's beauty. We will be back, accompanied by Richard or Andrew.
Andrew took us through Yorkshire showing us the quaint towns, fantastic Castle Howard, and the Whitby Abby. He made sure we had great fish and chips in Whitby and stopped at the Goathland train station( where a scene for the Harry Potter movie was filmed). He made sure our tour was exactly what we wanted and made lots of stops for photos. I can highly recommend this tour!!
We'd wanted to visit Whitby for the longest time, already having fallen in love with York over the years and are so glad we finally got to make the trip with Expedition Yorkshire. We had the most enjoyable and fun day, thanks to Andrew's very knowledgeable guiding skills and wouldn't hesitate to recommend a tour. We were made very welcome from the off and saw so many places that we wouldn't have thought to look for or known how to find on our own. We were fortunate to have a beautiful day which only enhanced the views of the stark and striking North York Moors. We particularly enjoyed the short stops en route at the atmospheric Byland and Rievaulx Abbeys and a break for refreshment at Helmsley's lovely Walled Garden (you have to try the delicious cakes at the Vinehouse Cafe!). Whitby did not disappoint, the habour views were beautiful and of course the imposing Abbey looms over the coast, just as it has for centuries. We stopped for a rather touching visit to St Mary's Churchyard, a very atmospheric spot for a quick recap of the opening scene of 'Dracula', just as the sun was beginning to think about setting.. We cannot recommend Andrew and Expedition Yorkshire enough - nothing is too much trouble, you'll learn so much and get the best views of the most stunning parts of the county, shown off at its very best. Don't think about it for too long-book that trip, you really won't regret it.
Our wonderful tour guide Richard was so knowledgable of the area and showed us a wonderful blend of both historical landmarks and beautiful villages. We had such a great time the time flew by and we are very grateful for our experience and for Richard's insight and knowledge. Would do this tour again in a minute.
We just got back from touring with Andrew for 4 days and wholeheartedly recommend Expedition Yorkshire for a fantastic experience!! We did the Moor, Coast & Cliff and ACG&S tours, as well as transfer tours from Edinburgh-York and York-Oxford. Andrew is knowledgeable, thoughtful, and funny. He knows the backroads and best spots, and he is clearly passionate about the beautiful area, as well as its people and history. We had a mixed family group (including 9 year old boys), and we also were dealing with some rainy weather and unexpected health issues. Andrew was unflappable – he tailored our trips based on our interests and needs, and helped us all make the best of our vacation. The touring van (as shown on the website) is very comfortable and well-maintained, and fit our group perfectly. We would happily book again with Expedition Yorkshire and highly recommend for an amazing bespoke experience!
Andrew provided a memorable experience. He was friendly, funny, engaging and a wealth of information. If you’re lucky enough to get Andrew as your tour guide, you’re guaranteed a great day!
We just completed two exceptional tours with Expedition Yorkshire. The first was the Moor, Coast, and Cliff tour, where we visited the amazing scenic countryside north and east of York where we were staying. We had also booked a “transfer tour” from York to our next destination in Edinburgh. This was a great way to move on to our next locale without “wasting” a day, as we traveled from site to site along the way. Andrew and company tailored the tours to our specific interests - history and photography - ensuring rich and memorable experiences for both of us. We highly recommend Expedition Yorkshire if you plan on visiting the region.
Wonderful experience! Andrew was patient and very knowledgeable. Went way beyond our expectations. Accommodating to what and how we wanted to sightsee. Beautiful countryside.
We spent an amazing day with Andew, the best day of our trip to the UK. Andrew has a warm, engaging personality which quickly makes you feel comfortable. He readily shares his comprehensive knowledge of the area, taking lesser known roads that lead to interesting sites that no guide book will ever include and most others would bypass. He took us through small towns, regaling us with their history and interesting stories. He knows the best cafes and restaurants in which to get refreshed. He was always willing to stop so that we could take in the views or capture images. We never felt rushed at any point; it was like taking a journey with a good friend. We would highly recommend Expedition Yorkshire tours to anyone.
Three generations of my family (aged from 11 to 82) took a wonderful full day tour last month with Expedition Yorkshire, which included the Yorkshire moors, Staithes, Whitby, Goathland, and so many more places. Andrew was friendly, considerate, and extremely knowledgeable. He listened to our requests and planned a tour for us that included all the places where we wanted to go, but then added so many extra stops along the way, showing us beautiful places we would never have thought of visiting, or been able to get to by ourselves. It really was the highlight of our visit, and I highly recommend this company.
Our family day tour to North Yorkshire Moors and Whitby with Andrew was excellent! Very knowleadgeable guide, friendly and all the places we visited were amazing. Super recommended!
I booked this trip for my mother and her sisters and they all thoroughly enjoyed it. They loved the way the trip was tailored around their preferences and especially enjoyed visiting unique places that wouldn’t be possible on a larger group tour. The guide was friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. Would recommend.
Can't make a higher recommendation for anyone than I would give Andrew for our fantastic four days with Andrew. We learned so much as he was filled with information that was interesting and important. Andrew met four of us at Bradford airport and we proceeded to the train to take us to Hayworth to see the Bronte church and parsonage as well as cemetery. He recommended lunch which was perfect in town. Then on to Bradford where he had us for two days on my family genealogy tour. He arranged for genealogist to help me discover another generation before we went and then to meet with her and see the documents. The next day he had the president of Undercliffe Cemetery take us on a tour of the amazing Victorian cemetery filled with history and to see the tombstone of my great great grandparents. The next day he took us to Saltaire, a woolmaking factory that included housing and health care away from the pollution of Bradford, now shops and site of David Hockney art work. Then a full day to the North Sea and Whitby along the Yorkshire Moors. He told us to look for a perfect view of Whitby as we came into town and wandered the cemetery and ruined abbey. He gave our daughter and granddaughter time to walk the pier to the end to stand right at the North Sea. The following day he drove us to the Cotswolds where the rest of the family met under the able planning by our next guide, Tom Benjamin from Go Cotswolds. If you want personalized tours, I can only give highest ratings to Andrew Ward of ExpeditionYorkshire and Tom Benjamin from Go Cotswolds. Our days in England were so enhanced by their care, concern, knowledge and superb suggestions of what to see and do.
What a wonderful day! Andrew took a small group, including my wife and me, on a trip from York, through Yorkshire and over the moors to Whitby on the North Sea - then back to York via the Harry Potter train station and Castle Howard. The route was carefully constructed, but Andrew was willing to adjust based on the group's wishes. The trip was informative and fun. We hope to get back to the area and will certainly talk to Andrew about another tour. Worth every penny!
A great day out with Andrew!!! The Mercedes is very spacious and comfortable and the snacks were amazing too. We saw a lot of Yorkshire in a short time, and Andrew is very knowledgeable and passionate about the places. I would highly recommend his tours to anyone and I would attend again.
