The York Sleuths completed the mystery We just finished this epic walk around the city, and discovered some interesting things and went to places we haven’t before. There is a couple of warnings when doing the Fatal Feud walk. I wouldn’t go down the black horse passage when it’s dark or down the canal footbridge. I would instead walk down Walmsgate instead and walk along the walls to get to the suspension bridge instead. Our other tip is to read the question at least twice as some of the riddles can cause confusion and may lead you in the wrong direction. There are couple of drinking stops on the way or cafes and can get food on your way back to town from your last location. We felt it’s a different way to explore the city without having to get on a tour bus or get a guide. You don’t need to know York well to get around as the guide is fully directed. Overall we had lots of fun and would definitely do another
Not very good if you don’t know every street in York off the back of your hand
Really fun experience for two teams within a hen party, it got very competitive!! The only feedback would be to either have the two teams have different clues, or if they are going to be the same then to suggest that we staggered our start times. We did have a few instances where we were just following each other around on the clues! There were also a couple of clues we had to improvise on as a couple of pathways had been blocked off that we should have taken. But a really enjoyable time and we got to see a lot of the city too
It was a lot of fun and really helped us to see more of the city that we wouldn’t have otherwise! It was a great way to get out and walk around more, as well as helping us to learn more about the city.
This experience is well worth it. It is an interactive murder mystery hunt using your phone and took us through York to places that we would never have seen. The storyline is excellent and the clues make you think and look for the answer. Our group who are in their later years managed with all the walking and felt a great sense of achievement when it was completed. I would recommend this for all whether you are a pensioner, teenager or a family and are looking for something different to do whilst visiting.
The clues can be quiet hard and need to think about answers otherwise you can quickly become lost in York
Brilliant - we didn't know York very well so was great to wander around and learn about the city. We went places we wouldn't have ever found before. We really recommend this game and found it fun and easy to understand.
Really fun experience, clues were set at a good level and sea parts of York we probably would have not seem. Only issue we had was second to last clue, was quite vague and took you to a part of town that you would rather not go to
We really enjoyed ourselves but we think your final clue was wrong and told us to turn left instead of right..
After the first clue wich took us a while, Then we was on our way ,it was very enjoyable had a very good day but didn't manage to finish it as ran out of time
We had a great time but a couple of clues may need adjusting slightly..the unnecessary red iron ( an early clue) has been painted black. Plus the alley opposite the church was very misleading as there is an adjacent alley named ate o'clock which leads to a restaurant only and the clue became very confusing afterwards. However we enjoyed the experience and saw new things 😊
We have done a number of these kind of walks before but mostly in London. We really enjoy escape rooms, immersive games etc. We enjoyed this but felt it lacked some challenge. The clues involved some thought but once you’d reached each destination there was no challenge, the answer was clear. As a result the end felt a little anti-climactic as we didn’t feel we’d achieved much - other than lots of steps! It was good value and got us around the city a bit, so from that point of view it was good. Just missing a real challenge/adventure to give the sense of achievement we wanted.
The murder mystery treasure hunt was really fun and we had a great time following the clues and story. The directions weren’t always the most clear and that led to us briefly getting lost but we did manage to get back on track.
This was such a great activity to get you exploring a new city and learn about the history of it at the same time. The customer service team are also so helpful! Before we had even begun I was a nuisance as I couldn’t work out why I hadn’t received the initial set up message (completely my own fault) but the person I dealt with was so helpful and lovely. It really started our experience on a high and the rest did not disappoint, we even encountered some Viking’s on our way around due to festival event this weekend 😛 Would absolutely recommend this to anybody looking for a fun way to explore!
Was great! Have been to York before so had done pretty much all the main touristy things. Found this trail online and took us past some places we didn’t notice before! Great story and trail. Would recommend
Loved this puzzle that got us looking high and low, noticing the fabulous architecture and history of York.
It wasn't amazing but still really enjoyed it and would do this type of thing again in the future. There were 2 of us and we found it fairly easy which is probably a good thing because if it was too difficult we may have give up. Unfortunately we couldn't finish it because my phone died. We considered trying to contact the help number but we didn't have much time left anyway so decided to leave it. I think we were almost at the end. It would have been useful if there were some instructions beforehand of what to do if this happened. It would have helped if I had known how to transfer it to my friends phone before mine died.
This was our first Secret City tour but it won’t be the last. We had such fun solving the clues and discovering parts of York we never knew existed. The pub stops were fab too and the meal at the Punchbowl was amazing (20% discount too and clean toilets). I did this tour with my grown up children as part of their birthdays. We have a day out instead of gifts. We took our time and watched the fab street entertainment too. Amazing tour, reasonable price and 12,300 steps and 13 flights of steps on the Fitbit too. Win, win!
Having to find out way back to civilization after a terrible last clue and an abrupt end as tourists not knowing where we were on a blazing hot day with a husband who had hurt his knee climbing up and down steps Not impressed at all and not the murder mystery we were expecting very weak story not worth the money. No phone number to call just automated text messaging bad experience all round 😡
Started ok used lots of attempts lost with correct answers because we used full title names enjoyed for first 5 or so clues in the smaller streets out the way but by the time we got so far it just got a little boring to be honest so didn’t even end up finishing it unfortunately … brilliant idea but definitely felt something was missing… bit too expensive for what it was
Great way to explore the city. Kept us busy for around 2.5 hours (without taking up the recommended refreshment stops). Clues were hard enough to be a challenge but not too hard that we lost interest or got frustrated. Good for all ages.
Sharing the experience with my family. It took you to parts of York you possibly wouldn’t have seen otherwise and figuring the clues out was great fun. Highly recommended
It was an amazing way of getting to know the city. Even the boys 13 and 10 loves solving the clues 🕵️♀️ thank you! A great experience and we will definitely be doing this again
We had a great time doing the trail and good way to see York and visit a few pubs on the way. Some of the clues were a bit cryptic but we got there in the end!
We had such a fun time working out all the clues and taking in the sights, especially those places we would otherwise not have seen because we wouldn't have known about them! The first clue was slightly more difficult, especially as we didn't know what R and+ meant, but after we clocked it, the remaining clues were relatively easy and fun to decipher. We didn't feel rushed and really enjoyed the whole morning, would highly recommend!
We decided to do this urban adventure in York on a lovely spring day in March... what a wonderful way to see the city! Following the clues, we saw parts of York that we hadn't seen before and enjoyed new things in familiar parts too. We got stuck once (the clue was hiding in plain sight!), and we got a time penalty for a clumsy misspelling but were pleased with our overall time of around 2hrs 15mins, excluding coffee and lunch stops. Well written, immersive, interesting and something we will definitely do again (another story next time).
Lovely way to see a city we’ve visited many times before! We walked 22,000 steps around York yesterday, breaking up the murder mystery with regular breaks, and loved every moment. This is a terrific tour that takes you off the beaten path, and highlights beautiful architecture and fantastic historic details hidden in plain sight that we would otherwise have missed. Brilliant way to spend a day meandering around York.
It was good fun, but the weather was shocking 😂 we got very wet. The coffee shop was lovely and we got a bit lost. Did a bit of shopping along the way and had fun!
We had never been to York before and it really helped us to get situated and familiar in the city in a really creative and fun way. Thanks so much!
Really fun way of exploring the city, the clues were cryptic but not to hard, could get a hint when we were stuck. Enjoyed the two pub breaks. Would recommend
We got to see streets of York that we would never have seen without the experience. The riddles were really fun to try and decipher, very cleverly thought up! We would have enjoyed having a few more pub stops if we were to do it again
It was excellent we both really enjoyed it. Its a great way to explore and absolutely reccomend it for anyone vacating here.
Absolutely loved it !!! Only complaint was it was a little easy but for our first try at one of their trials it was brilliant loads of fun !!! Makes you see parts of the city we would never have seen without the clues leading us that way and you got to learn the history of every place you visited !!! Would recommend to anyone !! We can not wait to do the next trial next time we are in York or any of the other cities they offer their trials in !!! Fantastic idea chaps something different and so much fun thank you 😊
Getting to explore parts of the city we have't seen before and the atmosphere were amazing experiences
We had a bit of trouble getting in contact when we couldn’t get the tour started. But once we did. Omg. My teen daughters had an absolute blast! We had to make them slow down and share with mom and dad! Great way to spend time seeing the city. Clues were so fun. We wish they had these in more cities!!
Good communication on phone. Good clues. Disappointed that it ended where it did. Please review this maybe start from the end point. Work your way back into the centre
Seeing sights of York that we would not have seen if we had just gone there. Good experience… the ending was slightly disappointing as we could not get the final clue due to a private function so felt slightly deflated but overall we both enjoyed it.
A bit too intense for us. The language used is that of the time it is set in. Plus you get hints but no chance of just skipping and given the answer.
Enjoyed seeing Al the areas of York you would never normally see,and taking on board some histoy on the way.
It was fun, though took a lot longer than expected due to roadworks and construction blocking the routes we needed to take. Couldn't finish due to this as we had reservations for a meal. Enjoyed it but it did get boring after a while. It needs to be monitored more to allow for constant works blocking the routes
It was a very informative adventure add a really great time doing it and you got to see York in more ways that you could imagine
Would highly recommend doing this! A great way to explore the city, with really fun and creative clues! The guys who run this were also really helpful and friendly. An overall fantastic experience.
Great customer service we weren't 100 percent satisfied with the walk and they have very kindly given us a refund. They really care about your experience
We have done one before and it gave us history knowledge at each point, where this doesn't and the clues are really hard work. I would not recommend.
I had a blip at start as my phone deleted the link to start the tour, after a bit of effort someone got in touch and sorted. Tour was fun way to see areas we wouldn’t necessarily have gone. This would be great fun for a family to spend an hour or so although a couple of the clues are a bit sketchy for adults let alone kids. Got there in the end but would have Been fun to receive an electronic email certificate or paid extra for a t-shirt etc.
We had a really good fun 3 hours doing this with a couple of pubs en route. A couple of small negatives though...within the first few clues, whilst walking the walls, it tells you to leave the walls at the earliest exit...this exit was locked and we couldn't get down. But this makes you think maybe it's the wrong exit so we came down at the next available exit...this was the wrong exit, the locked exit was the correct one. After we worked this out we had to find our way back through the streets as we couldn't go back via the walls. After this things went smoothly but the finish takes you through a little used grubby alleyway and brings you out at a shopping centre. I understand you have to get to the finish ultimately but maybe there would be a better way through as it was slightly disappointing. Small negatives aside this was a great way to while away a few hours and see some of hidden York which is delightful.
A good experience for mixed generations. A couple of the directions could have been clearer but great to have an immediate response via an app. Would do again.
We organised a study trip to York and booked the fatal feud scavenger hunt. It took us to amazing sites we normally never would have seen. The clues were challenging but so much fun! Thanks again, we had a blast!
Fatal feud truly is an amazing way of exploring the city in a completely different and unexpected manner! I truly loved the experience!
