The Dales are beautiful, and the roads are narrow and crazy. So glad we had an expert driver and storyteller. Bob, a native of the Dales, was a great host for the day. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the All Creatures history and sites, but especially the day long drive in the Dales. Great tour!!

Itinerary
Stop for a drink at the Drovers Arms from the original TV series
Your tour will start and end in this historic city in the heart of Yorkshire.
Visit the famous Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes, home of Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese. Browse the visitor centre, learn about the area’s cheese-making heritage and sample locally produced cheeses before continuing through the Dales.
Explore Grassington, the picturesque village transformed into Darrowby for the modern adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small. Wander around its attractive Market Square, traditional stone buildings and independent shops while discovering the familiar locations seen throughout the series. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, Grassington combines its television connections with the unmistakable character of a Yorkshire Dales village.
Discover Askrigg, the village used as Darrowby in the original television adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small. See familiar locations including the King’s Arms, which appeared as the Drovers Arms, and the building used as the exterior of Skeldale House. With its stone-built streets and beautiful Wensleydale surroundings, Askrigg is an essential stop for fans of the classic series.
Stop at magnificent Bolton Castle, the location where James Herriot proposed to Helen in the original television series. Photograph the imposing exterior of this 14th-century fortress and enjoy far-reaching views across Wensleydale.
Enjoy the natural beauty of Aysgarth Falls, where the River Ure cascades through attractive woodland. The falls also appeared in the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, making this a particularly memorable stop for film fans and nature lovers.

You see less than advertised. Museum is extensive & wonderful. More time should be given for it, with explanation of all there is to see.
We had a great day visiting the past and present filming locations for All Creatures Great and Small. The pick up point was easy to access. We found the guide very knowledgeable about All Creatures, the surrounding area and historical facts. Due to road closures both fixed and rolling (The Tour of Britain cyclist were in the area) he worked hard to ensure we saw all the locations in the day with minimal delays. I would recommend this tour to anyone that is interested in All Creatures Great and Small.
Myself and my husband loved the tour we were shown around by John for our all creatures great and small tour. He was very knowledgeable of all creatures great and small also the history or the Yorkshire dales and York. He talked the perfect amount throughout the tour and even did a quiz at the end which was great fun! John was a great tour guide and i couldnt of asked for better thankyou! Great value for money and the tour was a good length of time with a good amount of rest breaks enough to look around areas you had stopped in. Would definitely recommend.
John was a most amicable and informative guide. He shared so much knowledge of the history of the area. The amount of time at each stop was ideal. John was an excellent driver, too, which mattered on the narrow roads.
This has been one of the few trips for which I can say I got what I paid for and more. There was a whole lot to see. The minivan we journeyed in was such that you could take nice pictures of the scenery from wherever you sat. We had ample stops along the way for lunch, pictures, and bathroom breaks. And our guide, John from Mountain Goat, was personable — asides the view, his knowledge and warmth made the day truly worthwhile. I had such a lovely experience I have recommended it to friends already.
We visited from York on Saturday 1st August 2026. The tour was very interesting. The first main stop was at Thirsk, an attractive small town and the location of the veterinary surgery where Alf and Siegfried (the real life James and Siegfried) practised. The museum was set out as it was depicted in the books and on the television. Also included was a section on the filming of the series. We could also see the church where Alf and Joan (Helen) were married. The second main stop was at Grassington, which was recreated as Darrowby. There were other short stops along the way. The driver/ tour guide was amazing, as he provided us with a comprehensive commentary on all of the locations we visited plus other interesting facts about the area as he drove us smoothly across the ruggedly beautiful Dales - many thanks to him for a wonderful day. We would highly recommend this tour.
This tour is well worth your time and money if you are an All Creatures Great & Small fan! From the moment we got onto the bus until the end it was a fantastic tour all round. John our tour guide and driver, was so engaging and passionate about the history of Yorkshire, York and everything to do with 'All Creatures Great and Small'. His knowledge was amazing, being able to remember all the historical dates was a feet in itself. We learnt so much during the day, from learning about the real James Herriot (Alf Wight) to visiting Thirsk (where Alf practiced), from eating lunch at The Devonshire (the “Drovers Arms”) to sampling cheese at the Wensleydale Creamery. We even had a quiz at the end of the day which John kindly bought the prize out of his own pocket (a chocolate orange). If you get John as your tour guide, you will find out the relevance of the chocolate orange. The tour through the beautiful hills and Yorkshire dales also took us past the original house used in the 1st series. John was the best guide you could wish for, he would answer any questions you had. A true credit to the tour operator. We certainly would highly recommend this tour!!!
Excellent tour. Guide Bob was extremely knowledgeable and gave us loads of insights into Yorkshire Dale life. It was fab to see the All Creatures Museum and filming spots. Absolutely loved it!
Views of Yorkshire Dales spectacular. Stops well planned although a little rushed. Particularly the Darrowby location. It would've been nice to have had longer time there as the small independent shops and cafes which are all tourist dependant are simply gorgeous. The ride itself was a tad too fast and bumpy. Our driver and guide Ben was clearly confident as knew the road well, but as we'd only just met, he needed to build our confidence in him. I would definitely still recommend the trip as its great value and in good weather as said spectacular. Just been prepared if you're not a great coach traveller.
The tour was really good, we thoroughly enjoyed joyed the experience. Our tour guide Barry was great with all knowledge and kept us entertained all throughout our trip. The admission fee for this was well worth the money ! It was a full itinerary but completely enjoyed every minute, the length of visit was well done, great atmosphere among the group. Best for most people if you enjoy the television experience. Definitely recommend 👌
The tour was worth every penny. John, the tour guide was very knowledgeable about anything to do with the Yorkshire Dales. This is a must do tour if you are a fan of “All Creatures Great and Small”!
John was a lovely, smashing, and delightful tour guide! The tour took us all over the Yorkshire Dales and even the town where All Creatures is filmed:) We had lunch at the Drover Arms and took pictures in front of Skeldale. This is a must do activity for All Creatures Great and Small fans! Well worth the money🥰
Small group tour was entertaining and fun. Thanks Barry.
Super experience and an extremely knowledgeable tour guide would recommend other all creatures great and small lovers!
We had such a good time. Our tour guide Ben A was very good and informative. Took us to see all the best spots and we had the most the most amazing day. Would highly recommend.
This tour was fantastic. The scenery was spectacular, and it was amazing to see some of the filming locations for All Creatures Great and Small. Barry was brilliant, and such a lovely guy. He has no end of knowledge to share and literally gave us a running commentary from start to finish. The only tweaks that could make the trip even better would be to allow more time in Grassington. An hour was not enough to look around once lunch had been factored in. Also, an extra 15 minutes in the museum would be good. So much to see and not quite enough time. A thoroughly enjoyable day!
Our driver Barrie was fantastic and knowledgeable and made our trip really interesting. The views were amazing and the stops were great.
Amazing Tour Barry was fantastic Tour guide and Driver. His knowledge is unreal. Better than an app talking to you.Grassington you would need an extra half hour. The Tour brought you to all creatures great and small area and around. A Tour that was definitely the best. Would recommend it. Plus Barry and Billy Thank you for a great day Barry
As fans of the documentary, we wanted to make the most of our time in Wrexham and visit all the iconic places we had seen on screen. Booking this tour was the best decision we could have made. Kim was absolutely lovely and attentive, and she made our visit to Wrexham truly special. We walked around the city, discovering important landmarks such as St Giles’ Church and the many murals dedicated to Wrexham AFC. During the tour, we also met really lovely people, some of whom were even part of the documentary. We finished the tour by visiting the stadium and The Turf, enjoyed a few Wrexham Lager, and spent the rest of the day strolling around the city. Without a doubt, this was the best possible experience in Wrexham, and it wouldn’t have been the same without our wonderful guide, Kim. We truly hope to return in the future, as a part of us will always remain in Wrexham.
Our guide, Barry, was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. The scenery was spectacular and we really enjoyed the Herriot Museum and the small charming villages we visited.
The wonderful series, "All Creatures Great and Small" brought me to York., This beautiful area of England, the Dales was breathtaking. Seeing the location spots of this series was a real thrill, making the series come to life. The real surprise was the Village of Grassington, aka Darrobey, the fictional town of ACG&S. This Sunday, a festival was happening and ALL the local residents came attired in 30s and 40s including WWII attire. Unbelievable. The local square was filled with 30s, 40s music, dancing, even vehicles of these historical years of peace and war. Even a small airplane was there along with antique cars. FANTASTIC! Was told we missed the lead actor who plays "James" was present the day before. Bummer, as he is great along with the other 3 actors. This whole tour was the best ever with Bary our driver and guide I ever had in all my travels because of his knowledge, great driving skills, humor and consideration to us all. Kudos to "Brit Tours" for this very kind gentleman who transported us into the 30s and 40s period of WWII history. As a senior lady, 83 with my senior son, Bary demonstrated his kindness and patience to which I appreciated greatly.
Our guide, Barry, was a gem—knowledgeable about both versions of the TV show, full of behind‑the‑scenes stories, filming trivia, the personalities, plus local history, and nature! The energy and warmth he gave made the day feel as much about people and place as it was about the fiction. He was always amenable to accommodating requests if possible. Whether you’re a die‑hard James Herriot fan, a lover of British period drama, or someone who simply longs for green hills and heartfelt stories, this tour delivers on every level. Highly, highly recommend!
Our driver Lee was wonderful. His commentary was extremely informative and interesting. He took great care of his passengers, looking out for their individual needs. We loved the All Creatures Great and Small tour, despite the rain. As one who prefers to drive, I felt extremely safe with Lee at the wheel.
Overall, the tour was quite good. Barry shared lots of information about filming sites for both the first and second series. He also had wonderful stories about the little extras (ie., the man who carved mice into the pews he made, the behind story of Wensleydale cheese, etc.). I did have trouble keeping straight which site matched which series though, especially since I had not watched the second version. It would have been nice to make a short stop at the church where the first TV James and Helen were married. All of us in the van appreciated Barry's willingness to make a little side detour to the town where Wensleydale cheese is made. We like the Wallace and Grommit shows and had fun at the cheese store. Bought cheese, of course!! Bolton Castle was good. The only problem for myself, my husband and my son was that we had a bit of problem with motion sickness which was not Barry's or the tour company's fault. The roads were very narrow, twisty turny, and up and down. I had more problems than the other two. Luckily we stopped for an hour lunch in Grossington (sp), and afterwards felt better. Thinking back, I probably should have asked Barry to stop for a bit longer at one of the other sites. That would have helped (I think)
A fantastic full day experience with wonderful memories made all the more special by Barry our tour guide. He had an incredible wealth of knowledge about the world of James Herriot, the television series (old and new) and of the Dales as a whole. We visit various film locations, one or two which felt rushed where we would have liked longer, but that was in order that we could discover as much as possible about All Creatures Great and Small. Covering over 150 miles and lasting 9 hours I would thoroughly recommend this tour to any fan of All Creatures Great and Small.
What a gorgeous experience that we will always treasure! Barry, our tour guide, was so friendly, helpful, and knowledgable throughout the entirety of the tour. He went above and beyond- he couldn't have been more hospitable! His knowledge and enthusiasm for All Creatures Great and Small was superb and it was wonderful to find out some really interesting facts. Needless to say, the scenery was breathtaking and visiting Grassington was just as beautiful as it looks on the television. It was a day to remember and I would recommend it to anyone!
It was so good ! The bus was comfortable. We stopped often so no need to worry about toilets . Barry (goat ) was a wonderful guide
The All Creatures Great and Small tour was excellent and Barry our driver was also. Barry couldn't do enough for you and he was full of knowledge and gave out so much information on everything. The only thing I would say is even though Barry had a lot to get through it would have been nice to spend a little longer in the museum as we had to rush a little but overall it was a great day
We really enjoyed our tour . Amazing views of the beautiful countryside. Very interesting to see various locations associated with the tv series. Our driver was brilliant. Very knowledgeable & informative re the area & the tv series. Bus was very comfortable & thankfully had AC as it was an extremely hot day. A great day out. Thank you very much.
My friend and I really enjoyed every aspect of the tour. Driver was fantastic, so knowledgeable and also incredibly friendly. Our only comment, and we appreciate that there was a lot to pack into the day, was that we would’ve liked to have spent more time in Grassington, as we felt rushed having to both eat lunch and enjoy the village, shops etc. in the allocated time.
Beautiful trip through the Dales exploring the filming locations for AC GAS. Our driver/tour guide was friendly and very knowledgeable about both TV series as well as British history.
I enjoyed the day in the Dales. Its a nice tour and our driver showed us a lot around the beautiful countryside, villages and towns. He is a great driver on the tiny country-roads and a very sweet and helpful person. What was a little bit pity is that he wasn't a very informed or enthusiastic person about the show. He showed us most of the important places, like Heston Grange and some of the churches they used in the series, but you could tell he wasn't a fan who knows more of the finer details or had more specific stories to share. But he knew a lot about the agriculture, landscape, biology and history of the Dales, which was nice and interesting, too. But unfortunately not all what I hoped for in this specific ACGAS-Tour. But I enjoyed the day and it was cool to visit and see the places. :-)
An excellent 9 hour tour with the driver Trevor who was full of information on the filming locations and of all the places we visited
Trip was really good, although a little bit too long. A shorter trip with more time for the Herriott Museum and the Aysgarth Waterfall. Never got to Hawes which was part of the itinerary, but stopped in Grassington instead. Not long enough in Grassington either. It also would have been nice to have a longer afternoon stop. Apart from that Tour Guide was very friendly and informative.
Whether a dedicated viewer of All Creatures Great and Small of have never seen the series, this trip through England’s Yorkshire Dales will make for a magnificent experience. The rolling and verdant countryside, the historical towns, churches, farms and fields, so breathtakingly filmed in the series, all come to life in this day-length small bus excursion. The tour stops at several locations integral in filming that will resonate with those who love ACG&S or just want to see an ancient castle, a stone chapel, plenty of sheep, and a traditional Yorkshire pub (lunch at the estimable Drovers Arms). Tour guide and driver John S. presents a wealth of information about both the ACG&S series and the history and life of the Yorkshire countryside. His thoughtful and engaging commentary delivered in the most polite and cheerful manner was a delight all through the day. We are especially grateful to John S. as, even before the journey commenced, he went above and beyond to help us resolve a scheduling snag, with his efforts securing for us a day we will fondly remember always. He is truly a gentleman and scholar.
Absolutely superb 9 hour tour of filming locations and the beautiful Yorkshire dales driver Trevor was very informative and full of knowledge on all the areas we visited
The minibus was waiting at the pickup point on our arrival Our driver and guide for the day, John S, was welcoming and polite. Departure was prompt and John was very knowledgeable about not only the tour but the history of the area also. The tour lasted approximately 9hrs with plenty of time spent at the various stops on route. I would recommend this tour to anyone who has enjoyed the All Creatures Great and Small story.
John S on the all creatures…could not be faulted. Our guide/driver very personable, informative, great stories made the day very enjoyable.
Our family enjoyed the All Creatures Great and Small tour with John S. He was extremely kind, very knowledgeable and an excellent driver. We appreciated all the interesting stories he told as well as the many historical facts he shared about theJames Herriot world and the area we were traveling through. Thank you John for the perfect day.
The tour was fantastic and all credit must to to John S our tour guide, very informative and so knowledgeable. We had a great time.
Our driver, John S was amazing. We learned a lot along the way about the history of York and the Dales besides all the All Creatures Great and Small stops! The scenery was so beautiful. Loved the small group experience. It was a wonderful tour.
John S, our driver and tour guide was amazing! The S must stand for story telling and safe driving. He had so much knowledge and communicated it so well.. the tour it self was everything we expected and more. Breathtaking scenery and we saw all the important film locations. What a day! Thank you John S for making it memorable! Kind regards The two Dane’s on the front row
It exceeded all expectations. Our Guide, John S., was exceptionally personable & knowledgeable. I learned so much about so many things to do with the Dales as well as the story of James Herriot . Small group of 12, very comfortable minibus that u could eat & drink on if desired. Stops were never too far between, and each one was embellished with John S’ s stories about the area. Many sites to see but never felt rushed. I highly recommend Mountain Goat tours ( working for Brit Movie Tours) . When we returned exactly on time , I immediately looked into the other tours they do, it was that good.
What an amazing day we had! The whole thing was perfect from beginning to end. The amount of places we stopped at was a very pleasant and welcome surprise. We were out from 9am to 6pm and every moment was enjoyable from the visit to The All Creatures great and Small museum, Lunch in the Drovers Arms, to the beautiful views across the dales, we even has the sun out in the afternoon which finished the day off with style. Our driver for the day was John S and his knowledge, itinerary, manner and lovely way with his 'guests' as he called us was second to none, it was fascinating listening to his stories and knowledge of the characters and the series. really enjoyed the whole day - highly recommended - thank you for looking after us so well John S! We will bring a Chocolate orange with us on our next trip !
The entire tour was an excellent experience. Our guide, Trevor, was extremely knowlegible, personable, and entertaining. The small size of the group was very good. No time was lost due to the fact that there were so many people on the bus/van. The Herriot Museum was excellent - so nicely done with a variety of engaging possibilities and displays. Much information was provided about the countryside. Photo stops provided enough time for a quick stop without being too lengthy. It was a good value for the price and my husband and I enjoyed every minute.
We had the most fantastic day out with our guide John S, he was so knowledgeable, informative and truly cared about his guests having the best experience. He gave us plenty of time to look around, have food and enjoy photo opportunities. Definitely 5* . Thank you for a great day, Alyson & Ian
John our tour guide maneuvering driving and commentary along the way. Very pleasant very informative answering questions. And the unexpected 40’s festival in Grassington. It was a wonderful day, beautiful country side. Thank you
We really enjoyed the tour. We saw many unique little villages and magnificent countryside. John S. was a superb guide. He was very knowledgeable and kind. He even dropped us off at the train station in order to just make our departure in time!
We really enjoyed the tour, John the tour leader was absolutely outstanding, really knowledgeable and interesting, and very good humoured and kind. The scenery is spectacular and we really enjoyed seeing all the sights from the TV show, thank you so much.
