We've stayed here several times over the years, and choosing the rooms at the end with balcony is generally peaceful. For a 4* hotel however, maintainance & cleanliness is poor - We've had the same room on multiple occasions and the same broken things remain unattended over the years. On this occasion the bedroom card reader was hanging off, there were hairs in the shower which obviously hadn't been cleaned, the safe box had the front panel ripped off. The room TV randomly turns itself on, playing corporate promotional material at volume, which is annoying - and room service is something you're automatically opted out from, unless you specifically go and ask the day before. The garden grounds are kept very nice, and the bed is huge and very comfortable, and having a balcony facing towards the race course and morning sun makes the overall stay worth it despite the short comings. Based on the overall, I would not choose this place for a special occasion, but would recommend it for a weekend break.
I Had a great stay here with family as a family of 6 at the end of May. The reception area was clean and wlecoming we were booked in by Charlotte efficiently. We booked 2 rooms, a family room and a double which were both spacious and clean. Due to the building age the windows in the room were relatively small, however pleasant views on to well looked after gardens and partial views of the racecourse. I suspect the rooms with a balcony would have more light. There was a mini fridge tea, coffee, water, biscuits as well as toiletries and a television with Netflix for in room entertainment. The hotel has a small pool, splash pool and jacuzzi. The pool is perfect for beginners and young children- more avid or experienced swimmers may find it adequate but small. My husband and I used the very small, gym, steam room (hot but I've experienced hotter) and sauna- absolutely fine for us but something to note. (Children under 16 are not allowed in the jacuzzi and steamroom) last entry to swimming area 10:30pm for 11pm close.) The pool never became overly crowded, there were enough loungers and my children all had an amazing time. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious! lots of fruit, hot food cereals and staff were helpful and generous. This was one of the highlights that would make me rebook. Dinner was great - generous kids portions and good value though we didn't get to have the desert that was included in the price of kids meal as it seemed the restaurant was closing for the evening (we arrived way before last orders. But the restaurant was relatively full). Due to the fact we had a great time and were all full and management seemed rushed, I opted not to make a fuss of this though being able to eat everything that was ordered and paid for would have added to the experience. The only other issue was the door on one of the rooms we stayed in (I believe it was 155) needed some repair which I'm hoping by now has been dealt with. The door locked completely fine, however a covering component was loose and better to get these things looked after sooner rather than later. All in all a lovely family stay! We only stayed a night but came away refreshed and rejuvenated before heading to Elvington Airfield which was a 20min drive approx down the road
Came in to stay overnight. Absolutely loved the hotel. Everyone were really friendly and helpful. Our room was very spacious with a big comfy bed. My favourite part of the whole room was the big mirrors in the room. The breakfast choice was amazing there was everything starting with pancakes finishing with full English breakfast. Everything was made fresh for breakfast. Minus one star because the pool could have been warmer, the jacuzzi was a perfect temperature however the pool was a bit cold. The hotel is located at a beautiful location, with horse race tracks as the back garden. Perfect place for you if you’re a fan of horse races. Would definitely recommend this hotel as it was very quiet and relaxing. Will definitely be coming back.
This hotel is amazing. We’ve been coming here as a family of 4 for over 7 years and every time it’s great. We’ve especially come for the pool and breakfast which are both excellent. I’d like to highlight the exemplary breakfast staff who do their upmost to make sure it’s special. Special hot chocolate? No problem. Special hot muffins? No problem. We use the family sized rooms and they’re great for a family of 4 with 2 big kids.
