One of my favourite hotels in York Malmaison is one of my favourite places to stay when visiting York. It has a great central location, just a short walk from the railway station and ideally placed for exploring the city on foot. The rooms are stylish and nicely decorated and, despite being in the centre of York, I’ve always found them surprisingly quiet. The beds are extremely comfortable, with excellent quality bedding and pillows, and I always seem to get a really good night’s sleep here. The main restaurant is good, with an interesting menu and high-quality, well-prepared food. Breakfast is particularly worth recommending, with an excellent choice to suit all tastes and plenty of freshly prepared options. Service can occasionally feel a little slow, but this seems to go with the generally relaxed atmosphere of the hotel rather than detracting too much from the experience. There’s also a good gym on site with a decent selection of equipment, which is a welcome addition if you want to keep active during your stay. Overall, a stylish, comfortable and very well-located hotel that I’m always happy to return to when staying in York.

Absolutely fabulous place!. Really didn't expect the size of the room for the price (standard double). All really clean and modern. The staff who we have interacted with have all been welcoming. Perfect location, we will return.
We stopped by for a couple of glasses in the roof top bar and the young staff are incredibly well trained, competent and friendly. Even though the outside bit was empty when we got there we were told it was fully booked and there wasn't a seat free about an hour later. We were able to sit indoors instead at the top and that was still lovely. I would say that if you really want to sit outside at the top on a hot day, especially into the evening then I would ring and pre-book a table. Also take a light jumper or cardigan as it can get windy and a touch chilly.
The location of the hotel is great - short walk from the station and short walk into the centre. We stayed in a club room which was immaculately clean, the fridge, coffee machine and bottle of water were much appreciated and things like decent size towels and a little alcove in the shower to put your products were well thought out. Unfortunately, despite being on the top floor, the noise from outside was constant (traffic and very loud music from a bar across the street) throughout the night. Add to this getting woken up by guests returning to their room at 01.30 in the morning who decided to have a chat in the hallway and this alone would be enough to stop me returning. The air con would also not go below 19 degrees - the helpful staff on reception confirmed this was the lowest it would go, but it was not cool enough to make the room a comfortable temperature (I've stayed in another Malmaison and didn't have this problem). The room, location and staff were all wonderful but the noise and room temperature would unfortunately prevent me from returning.
We received a voucher for an afternoon tea from our son. We booked a table, we were asked for our drink preferences by an enthusiastic server. She explained the voucher and seated us at nice table. She returned shortly with our drinks, and ten minutes later with our food. There was a great selection. Crispy chicken, coated in a slightly spicy sauce, sliders, prawn cocktail and scones with salted caramel butter, creme brushed and two other delicious cakes. ALL the staff were friendly and polite and made you feel valued. The hot drinks were unlimited, and very refreshing. The only thing missing, was the ability to partake of the feast outdoors. Well worth a visit. It was so good last time we bought our own voucher. The experience didn't disappoint, the quality of food and care was the same or better than last time, a truly uplifting experience. Many thanks Malmaison.
