Went in for food as was lovely a year or so ago, now unfortunately it's just here to rip of tourists with high priced beer, and mediocre food. Had fish and chips at £22! Year ago, was spot on, now pretty rubbish to be honest. Chips dry and old, probably re heated from earlier on in the day. Fish was OK but small and not fresh like before, better at a local chippy.. My biggest disappointment.. mushy peas out of a tin! In a tiny sized pot, so not even a quarter of a tin.. Pence per tin! Plenty of tartar sauce but not great either, probably bought in. At this price point I'd expect home made peas and tartar sauce.. Minimum effort, maximum profit. Lost another local..

The service here is absolutely atrocious! The waitress acted like any request was beyond normal even down to water for the table. Not very welcoming to say the least. Then we have the cleanliness of the place the table had mold under the glass top and the seats where sticky. For the prices you pay I'd recommend going elsewhere where and actually feel welcomed.
Staying here felt like a welcome deep dive into old York. The pub has excellent food and the beds are oh so comfortable!! The staff were always friendly and helpful. The rooms are very quiet at night and I was thrilled to hear the Minster bells ringing off an afternoon. The somewhat tilted parts of the house are quaint and serve to remind one that this is an original. If you are not good on stairs book a lower floor; but my old bones made the trip several times albeit carefully. The location s perfectly placed and everything is easy walking. I do recommend staying at Guy Fawkes if you have the chance.
Beautiful pub which is the birthplace of Guy Fawkes, really gorgeous setting and definitely worth popping in for some pints! Didn’t stay in a room so can’t comment on that. Had the steak and ale pie in the restaurant part, food was very tasty, especially the gravy. It did take a while for the food but it’s a nice setting so no issue there. The staff were friendly but certainly in no rush to do anything quickly, seems like they’re all a bit stressed. Overall a really gorgeous pub in a great spot, definitely worth a visit!
Our room was breathtaking, spacious and very well decorated. Every detail had been considered. It was in the new building and very recently renovated. The Minster views from the room were incredible. Staff was very professional and friendly. We loved our stay and can't wait to come back.
