Mount Merapi Sunrise - Jomblang Cave - Timang Beach : The Best Adventure

Our guide, Mr. Dani, was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. He went out of his way to make sure we had the best day possible. It had rained overnight and earlier in the day so the cave was a crazy muddy mess, but muck boots were provided as well as hoses to wash off after. Definitely bring a change of clothes just in case you slip and fall. But honestly, chucking through the mud made for a rollicking adventure and the view of sunlight streaming through the hole was well worth it. The lunch the cave provided - chicken, tofu, vegetables and rice cooked in banana leaves - was delicious. It was a very early start to make it to Mt Merapi for sunrise but we slept in the car going from there to the cave so it all worked out ok. Visiting the museum to see the damage the eruption caused in 2010 was sobering and also a highlight of our day. Timang beach is not a beach, beach - you do not need to bring a swimsuit! Definitely take the hand powered gondola out to the rocky outcropping and watch the waves smash into to coast. It was mesmerizing!

This is an amazing tour from Asmaradhana Borobudura Tours, well worth the very early start. The 3 activities should be on all yogyakata bucket lists. I cannot speak highly enough of our Guide Hibza. He went out of his way to ensure that everything was perfect for the day and was simply a pleasure to be around.

The best day of the trip in Indonesia. Our driver Himawan was the best driver ever, he was very friendly and funny and give us a lot of information during the trip. I really recommend this experience, the sun rise was really nice and so was mount Merapi, but the Jomblang cave and Timang beach were breathtaking.

This is an excellent tour. It is packed with diverse activities from riding 4x4 to see the sunrise, to walking the underground passage to be amused with the tower of light coming from the openning 60m above, to enjoying the astonishing view on the rugged cliffs at the beach. My special thanks to our guide, Dani. What makes him special is a deep and wide knowledge of Java and Indonesia history, culture, and everyday life. We had a broad discussion spanning from local fruits to the history of Java religions, and he always had the answers and stories to share. I strongly recommend the company and the driver Dani. Practical suggestions for the cave tour: if you have it, take your headlight with you. Also, you may want to have a spare dry clothe in the trunk in case you need to change after the walk.

Truly an adventure of a lifetime! From taking a wild jeep-ride through winding roads at dawn, to witnessing a cinematic volcano, to rappelling down to a heavenly cave, to zipping across the furious ocean to a mysterious island— this tour kept my adrenaline going! We did the sunrise tour and really enjoyed our time here! Our guide, Hendra, was very nice and helpful. He drove us around all day and provided insight on each of the locations. It was very hot and humid especially in the cave but it was a very fun experience. It was a first time for all of us to grapple into a cave and sit in a jeep. Overall, we very much enjoyed this tour with Hendra and would be glad to come back next time!

Absolutely brilliant tour, I had a fantastic day and all of the guides were amazing (and also very good photographers) but a special mention to Sigit for making my day so enjoyable, he went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. I could not recommend this more!

The activities are almost just a sub-plot to drive the narrative, to witness the force of nature and the natural surrounding this land has to offer is the reward in itself.

This was our first full day in Indonesia and at the end of the day we felt like we’ve been here for a week as this trip involves so many activities. Our driver, Sigit, picked us up on time and drove us to the first destination. We saw lava coming from mount Merapi and watched a beautiful sunrise. You get to see a museum that was built post 2010 horrific volcanic eruption. Then, we went to Jomblang Cave which was an unforgettable experience. As you leave the cave, try to get to the front of the queue as it can take some time to get out. We waited over an hour to get back to the top. Our last stop was at Timang Beach. Sigit’s fun energy made the long drive very pleasant and he did a great job taking pictures and videos of us. I’d 100% recommend this tour.

We had a wonderful day trip! Our guide Sigit who provided us professional assistance and a smooth drive was very friendly and helpful. The sceneries are marvelous and the experience of visiting Merapi, Jomblang cave and Timang beach is definitely incomparable. Love it!!!

It’s a wonderful full day experience. If you are concerned about the rappelling part, you are not alone. I was persuaded to do it and it was a lovely choice. It’s a wonderful experience that gets you outside your comfort level. Get a set of cloths to change in (in case you choose to do the optional rivert tire floating), a towel is optional but may be nice, get a headlight for the cave and bring on your cheer. At the end i said : wow ! 😀

The tour was really well organised and the driver manages everything so you don't have to be hassled about anything. Our driver, Sigit was really friendly and took great pictures of us. The whole tour takes pretty much the whole day starting at 4am to go to Mount Merapi. Within one day, one goes from the top of Merapi to the caves (a must do in Yogyakarta) to the beach.

We only had another day to completed our Java trip. Decided to go with this one and it was the best decision ever! Big thanks to Sigit, an amazing driver and super friendly plus helpful. This trip is very recommended! If you may request, ask for Sigit to drive you around.

The two activities were great, but the trip itself to the caves and the way back were really pleasant and joyful. The driver, Atok, was always ready to bring you good advices a relevant information regarding the indonsian culture. I strongly recommend the experience to anyone looking for a different way of enjoying the stay at Yogyakarta.

I travelled solo with Atok who was my driver and tour guide. Atok was very organized and dealt with all the tickets and the lunch for the day. The caves is an incredible experience, it was done safely and at the pace for the whole group to enjoy. I would recommend Atok and this experience to all my friends and family.

My guide is Widi, a very nice and friendly person. The tour was amazing and adventurous. Highly recommended! But do bring additional clothes, as it’s super muddy under the cave and your clothes will definitely get dirty.

Walking 60 meter under the ground inside Jambalan Cave ending up in an beautiful opening, where the sun light entering inside the cave creates a magic atmosphere. This is something that must be experienced with all the 5 senses! Thanks to Atok, always available for any change program, and quick stop during the trip to allow me to enjoy the nature around!

We had full one day tour and enjoyed whole day. Our tour guide "Yovi" is punctual , safely drive , friendly and helpfulness .

It was a last minute booking just 1 day before. Had a wonderful driver (Atok) who brought me around for the entire private trip. He and the tour team managed everything smoothly giving a pleasant tour experience. Was given the heads-up that sunrise is earlier recently, so the admin team arranged for early pick-up at 4.00am instead after taking into account the travelling time. Can see the Merapi sunrise, albeit not the best sunrise from the Merapi location (which can't be helped). Got lucky with a nice view of Mt Merapi that day and jeep tour around the area. Jomblang is a fascinating experience if you can overcome your fear of heights. Boots provided to do a short hike through mud and you can change back to your clean shoes once finished. The view in the cave was awesome but just need to be careful when walking. Timang beach is another place to get great pictures. The ticket admission for gondola 🚡 (or walking over the swinging bridge which is 100K IDR separate) is not included in the package. But try it if you are there (again if you can overcome your fears). About the driver: Atok was very punctual and responsive. Polite, cheerful and friendly personality willing to answer questions when asked. Would certainly recommend to go for this tour if you are looking for an unforgettable experience to mark your trip.

Must visit! July was the best time to visit the Jomblang cave because the weather in Jogja was perfect. I suggest you visit the cave in the summertime because that's the best time to see how perfect the cave is from the inside so you do not miss the Jesus Light ;) The walk down there is muddy and adventurous. I got stuck in the mud all the time, oh yeah better to use socks or prepare band-aids for your feet because the boots they provide there kinda hard. Each batch of visits to the cave accommodates about 20 people with every 2 people taking turns to go down there to the cave with safety ropes, I was the only Indonesian there and the rest of them are foreigners. All amazing views of the cave and an unforgettable experience. It was worth it. Our driver was so professional and friendly, he braced us through 1 and half hour long journey including the most rocky roads in Gunung Kidul. There was chicken and goat in the middle of the road but he handle it so well! I booked 2 days travels with Asmarandhana to explore Yogyakarta 10/10 recommended!

In the whole I find it a very worthwhile experience, it combines very different and very fun activities, very friendly staff, very comfortable transport and very rich food. To put a stick on it, on the cave tour we expected something else, the path you pass once you are inside the cave is too muddy and difficult to cross, plus the photos are perhaps more impressive than it is in reality.

That was amazing! We were picked up by private car, taken to the lines and home again. That was very pleasant. Our driver was cool, helpful and funny. He told us the story of the activity. The activity is mega crass! What an adventure! Jeep tour through the crass street I think is the coolest!

We had a great day. socks and slippers/sandals are required. The process of entering the cave was safe, the staff were helpful, the light was very nice and the photos were good! The cave is also special. The tour guide Atok was very friendly and English was very good, introduced us to a lot of local features and the route was reasonable.
