Such a personalized and immersive experience! There were just the three of us, and i dont think they accommodate much larger groups so its super intimate. We had two cheerful, knowledgeable and engaging young ladies as our coaches, overseen by a master batik artist with decades of experience. They showed us how to apply the wax and color, allowing us to each create our own art. Then they took care of fixing the color and melting the wax, so we could take our creations home with us. We also bought a copluple of beautiful bolts of fabric for later! Highly recommend!

A very enjoyable experience. Our family had a lot of fun doing this. Good explanation and teaching of the process - it is not as easy as it looks when they do it.
I had a truly special experience with Salwa during my batik class near Prambanan. She is incredibly kind, patient, and talented. Even though I was the only participant, she made the whole experience feel personal and meaningful. She guided me gently through the process and helped me with the more difficult parts of the design with such care and dedication. What touched me the most was her warmth and authenticity. This was not just a class, but a beautiful human connection. I created a batik piece that I will treasure forever, not only for the result but for the moment we shared. Thank you, Salwa, for your generosity, your smile, and your beautiful energy. You made this experience unforgettable.
We had a great time with the Batik experience. A nice and relaxing atmosphere that truly catered to our abilities and wishes. A definite must on your trip!
Lovely experience here going through the process of making Batik. Staff were extremely friendly and made the day very enjoyable!
Super recommended local experience with a true batik master. My group thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and it was so worthwhile because we were supporting local artisans with little middlemen. The place is a local home where you get to do the full batik process in a private fashion, with everything explained so well. There were also tea and snacks before the class started. Highly recommend this ahead of other mass tourism workshop as this truly supports a local community. We booked with the main operator (Algalova) who’s also from the village and created these tours to support women empowerment and local enterprises. We will definitely recommend this to others!
Lovely afternoon activity learning about batik from an expert set in a traditional Indonesian home. We were served yummy snacks. A lovely young student translated and explained everything to us in English. Our host was very warm and kind. It was a perfect experience for my husband and I. Very authentic
Super fun workshop learning the art of Batik! Salwa was very kind and helpful! An interactive process from start to finish.
This was a very fun family experience (two adults and two 9 year old boys). Our guide was very patient and kept the kids entertained throughout. Great hospitality
Highly recommend. Salwa, the teacher, was so kind and friendly and the family too. I felt like home, and of course I'm so proud of my Batik.
We thoroughly enjoyed this class. The teaching was very good and the pictures we made were beautiful. The ladies running the class were very helpful, explaining the process very well and not rushing us. Everyone was extremely kind and helpful.
We absolutely loved it! If you like creative things, you will absolutely adore this activity. You get to make you own design or if you are less good at that, they have some for you. Than you get to see the whole process, which is soo interesting. They also provide water, tea and some local snacks. I would definitely recommened this activety to anyone who comes to Yogyakarta!!!
3 of us had a wonderful time at the Batik class. We started with the option of drawing our own design or ones that were already done. Then we used the hot wax and finally the dying process. Our guide Salwa was excellent and very patient and really helped teach us on how to improve! The 3+ hours went by very fast. The hosts' home in the village was very nice and we got to see some of her finished products. Would definitely recommend and a great cultural experience. Thank you Alga Lova Tours.
It was about one hour from my hotel. I hired a private car and driver. The experience was wonderful. The process takes about 3hrs to draw, wax and paint. Then they dried it and soaked into a chemical solution and then in water. When I left it was still wet and place it on newspaper to dry in the car and hotel.
My sister and I loved this class! We were able to create our own design which we sketched onto the fabric, then traced using wax, painted, and removed the wax for our finished piece. It was definitely trickier than we both expected (especially outlining the piece in the wax) but it just showed us how incredible the batik artists truly are, and the amount of work that goes into this gorgeous craft. We were so proud of our finished creations. Thank you so much for teaching us the art of Batik!
Amazing workshop! The ladies are so nice and they are very helpful with teaching the technique of batik and even though I was not confident with my artistic abilities, I love how my batik piece turned out! There are tasty local snacks and water provided. I was also shown the temple down the road whilst the batik was drying. I then got a Grab to Prambanan temple which was very close to the workshop, and was a good day out in the area. I highly recommend this class!
The batik class was really educational and we had a lot of fun! Our guide and hostess were really sweet :) We were very free to create an own beautiful batik creation!
Amazing hospitality by the hosts and team! Got to experience and learn about the process of batik. The host venue had beautiful works of batik all around and it'll definitely make you appreciate the hard work the craftsmen put into their work. The workshop was led by Salwa and Titik, both who were very encouraging and patient throughout the whole process. I'd highly recommend guests to have a hands-on experience! You don't have to be great at art to attend the workshop - feel free to go in blind with an open mind, the team will lead wonderfully.
When our driver dropped us off in this neighborhood location, that was surprise number 1. And then the whole process and the staff …. Excellent !! We enjoyed visiting the neighborhood temple while waiting for our work to dry. Our hosts offered ice cold water and snacks…. Very nice. We bumbled through the waxing and coloring … hard to believe the finished product was so nice !!! Strongly recommend everyone take this batik making class !!!
I think this is a must do!! It took 3 hours as predicted and you can create your own design, or use one they make for you. The family that runs it is very sweet and speaks amazing English! Also very close to Prambanan Temple, easy day trip from central Yogyakarta.
Very nice! I wanted to try the technique in Indonesia, i am a professional artist myself and we were explained in the gallery, nice authentic ambiance. It made us very calm and focussed. The guide talked in English. We had a good experience with coffee and laughs.
Very supportive and calming experience. Lets you truly understand the skill of Batik. Takes about 3hrs and you leave with your own Batik artwork.
An interesting activity to try if you enjoy culture and art. Like any other work, you appreciate it better when you see what happens behind the scene. Time flew by and before you know it, you have created a 'masterpiece'. A highly recommended activity.
We booked for a 3 hours Batik Workshop. We really enjoyed the experience a lot. The staff is very welcoming, with drinks and home made local snacks. We got a clear overview of the steps and in-depth support of developing our own piece of art. The atmosphere is relaxt and the activity’s is very Zen. The results is stunning. This is definitely a recommendation to plan in your visit.
The boutique making workshop was outstanding. It walked me through each stage of the process with high-quality instruction, support, and detail. You can draw your own design or work from one that has been prepared for your selection. The instructor and assistant (who speaks English very well) or warm, encouraging, and detail oriented. They will provide the level of supervision and support that you need during the whole process. In addition to (beginning to) learn this culturally, important, technical craft within a UNESCO -recognized community for Batik, you will have the opportunity to look at many different, locally handmade batiks, available for purchase. The quality of the instruction was absolutely excellent, and everyone was warm and enthusiastic. I could not have been more pleased with this process, and it was a perfect counterpoint to a physically intense day at the temples. In addition, I was provided with super tasty homemade snacks and coffee along with other drinks. Make sure you have a reliable driver because the workshop is located in a neighborhood that’s known for Batik making. It is close to Pramanam Temple so you may want to combine these activities. It is roughly an hour from the airport, but traffic dependent. I’m absolutely thrilled with the quality of the workshop! If you are at all crafty, do it!
This was an amazing experience! There was the option of using a tote bag, and do our own design on them... Which was amazing! The owner and Salwa were super kind and helpful! I had a really great time in here! I definitely recommend it!!!
Appreciate the one on one instruction! Our teacher was very patient and encouraged us even when we did not do a perfect job. Our first time and the hands lacked precision and control. But as he said, even when you are making a mistake, you are still making “art”.
We had a very wonderful experience batik class with Bagus & Titik. They are very lovely person and very helpful!. Madam Titik even did sketch my batik design request in no time. (I feel bad but Im very happy!!!!) so thankyou so much for the time and fun! I will suggest everyone to take this batik workshop! ❤️
Despite arriving half an hour late, due to transport difficulties, Batus welcomed us and kindly made us feel comfortable and relaxed. Batus is a very patient teacher, and trying our hand at Batik Making was an interesting and really lovely experience. A quiet, thoughtful, and creative activity away from the hubbub of the city for 3 hours. Restorative.
Wow what amazing experience!!!! Batus was an amazing teacher very knowledgeable and explained the process from start to finish. Would so recommend this trip and experience. Don't let this gem slip through your fingers.
Perfect expérience. People very nice and helpfull people. Very interesting experience. We recommend you to go and have a good afternoon.
We had a free day during our trip in Yogyakarta and booked this Batik art class on a whim and were so happy that we did. It was a really lovely experience. We learned loads about the process of how batik art is created and had lots of fun creating our own pieces. Our hosts were kind and informative and it was lovely to spend the morning outside the city for a relaxing experience. Would definitely recommend 😊
Very nice batik session with Bagus, Titi and Sasa! They were al very helpful and nice. We enjoyed doing it! The work was dificult, but very nice to learn.
One of a kind experience making my own batik. While we waited for it to dry, we went to the big hindu / buddhist temple Prambanan😍 we had the most beautiful sunset there.
We had a lovely afternoon with our family learning about batik and creating our own piece of art in a very friendly atmosphere.
Nice experience, peaceful place and friendly people. The explaining of the proces could have been a bit more explicit. The extra costs for a bag because there were no fabric pieces available felt out of balance.
The class was lovely, they provided tea and snacks and were patient with me. Batik is more complex than I thought and they did a good job balancing teaching me the steps, being patient/kind and stepping in to help to ensure my designs came out nicely.i would go back if I had more time. The place was really like a home in a village with an art gallery of beautiful batik fabrics. For the class it was just me, the lady who owns the business and a translator/guide. Everyone was nice. The translator/guide knew it was my last day and took me to temples while the piece dried and gave a decent lesson. The temple he showed me had a beautiful history and because it wasn't borubudur or prambanan it was mostly empty. it was a perfect relaxed activity for a last day. It did go over the time so I would not plan something immediately after.
Excellent master class in batik technique: from drawing to the processing of the cloth to make batik as the final result. An eye opener experience as it is not as easy as it looks this gained better appreciation of the detailed works involved. Highly recommended.
This is a great class. You are able to learn the batik process from start to finish. They provide you with pre-outlined designs to choose from. The class is located in a village and while waiting for the batik to dry we walked to a nearby temple. What a bonus. We had a lovely college student as our translator- she was great. The owner is an incredible batik artist. She sells her work at the studio. It’s fun to look through even if you don’t want to buy anything
We had great time learning how to prepare batik. I would say it's a must if you happen to be in Yogya! Our children loved the whole process, especially the coloring :) We were taught by a local batik artist with huge experience, it was a real honor. There is also a gallery where you can admire different batik fabrics made by women from the region, as the organizer is involved in women's empowerment movement. When the fabric was drying, we were taken to see the nearby temple - very old and beautiful. Our host showed us around and aswered all the questions. Highly recommended!

we did the batik workshop and the temple tour. We had a great time. Everyone was very welcoming and interesting. We were greeted with great friendliness, we drank tea and ate a small snack before starting. We received very good advices, they were very patient and attentive to know if we accepted and wanted to be taken in photo or video to have a souvenir. During the drying time we visited the temple then we attended the dipping to remove the wax. You then have to wait again for everything to dry so we had another good time with our 2 guides who speak very good English. Do not hesitate to ask them your questions about the tradition or ask them for recommendations. The discussion is very easy and we talked about our travel experiences, even personal anecdotes. Everything was very pleasant. Thank you again for this moment !
The hospitality was absolutely fantastic, very welcoming and the guide is really assisting. The place is comfortable and there are so many batik that we can see in there
They were very communicative to start with and reached out right away through Whatsapp. When we arrived they have snacks and drinks available. Our instructor was very helpful and knowledgeable. We were able to choose a pattern and make our own small piece. They even let my daughter draw her own design. We learned a lot about the process and history of batik. While we waited for our batik to process our ticket included a walk to the neighborhood Buddhist temple and entrance. The batik in the shop is mostly made by one lady. She is teaching the other women in the village batik to help improve the lives of the village members and give the women work they can do from home.
My class was a great experience of learning how to make a Batik painting. The tour offered to pick me up from the train station or bus terminal to save me time to get there. There was then a good explanation on how the process worked and I was given a chance to test my skills before doing my actual painting. There were multiple designs they offered me but if you are more creative you can do your own. I kept getting assistance to make sure my painting was ready to colour. There are a few colours you can use but you can make them lighter by adding water. Once everything was done, I went to a small temple across the road to look around at whilst my painting was drying. My guide also was great in taking photos and videos of me during different stages of the process. I felt that this was an amazing cultural experience and it is better to go to Prambanan for this class, not the temples. Terima kasih banyak!
It was very nice, teacher explained everything patiently and helped me correct mistakes. There's a big choice of patterns and there is also a possibility of drawing your own pattern. Also, tea was delicious and in meantime while you wait for your work to dry out, the teacher showes you a nearby temple.
We had a wonderful time here learning about the way how Batik is created and where all the paterns and colours come from. Best part was actually making our own Batik! Our interesting host was very warm and friendly and the whole experience was made complete by a very nice teacher who helped us feel special being there.
We really enjoyed the batik class with Citra! We had a lot of fun while doing it and the results looked amazing. During the waiting time we visited a beautiful temple just a few meters away. Thanks for the great day Citra!
Wonderful afternoon learning the art of batik in a beautiful space with a knowledgeable guide who documents your whole process. The tour also includes a visit to a nearby temple and snacks. This business supports the local woman by displaying their batik in its gallery. This was such a lovely experience, I highly recommend after your visit to Prambahan as it is 2 mins away!
The class was really nice and intimate! Would definitely recommend to anyone! The temple was super lovely to visit aswell
