My first time to Sanya and was travelling with friends that had stayed before somewhere but heard good things about Westin, particularly with two children. We stayed for 5 nights and i was truly sad to leave, i could easily stay another. Each morning i woke to an incredible sunrise on level 7 over looking the ocean and went for a beach walk. The location is absolutely superb within an easy walk to the huge shopping centre next door. The breakfast was ample with asian and western food, then back to the pool. There never seemed to be an American style rush to thrown down towels to save a bed or cabana and i loved you didn’t have to pay a daily rate for that unlike Hawaii for example. There were plenty of amazing staff on hard and ready to assist but a special shout out to Ellen at the pool bar, she was so lovely and remembered our drinks preference etc and we had fun with google translate! The grounds were absolutely immaculate as was the house keeping. The roof top pool and bar run by Alan from Bangladesh was amazing as was he also. BUT if i only had one criticism it was be the very odd selection of cuisine on the rooftop bar being Hot Pot only. Mix up the menu and more people will enjoy the night time views and food.

Chloe Saved the Day, But the Resort Falls Short Our recent stay at The Westin Sanya Haitang Bay Resort left us with mixed feelings. If it weren’t for one outstanding individual, this review would easily be a 1-star. Overall, the resort is just "so-so," but Chloe (Duty Manager) truly lit up our entire experience. 🌟 The Silver Lining: Exceptional Service by Chloe We arrived on June 26th after a long, exhausting transit flight from Malaysia. We were warmly greeted by Chloe, who went above and beyond to arrange an early check-in for us. She allocated us a room on the 9th floor, which boasted a spectacular view of the sea and the pool. Throughout our stay, Chloe’s superb service, hospitality, and genuine care saved our holidays. She is an absolute asset to this hotel. 🛑 The Cons: Areas for Serious Improvement While Chloe was amazing, the rest of our 5-day stay highlighted major operational and service gaps: 1. Discriminatory Service at Breakfast: While the breakfast itself was acceptable (and we avoided queues by going early), I experienced a highly disappointing encounter at the noodle kiosk. I asked the staff member what meat came with the noodles. He gave me a blank poker face and just pointed at a ready-made bowl. Assuming it was a language barrier, I walked away. However, immediately after, a Western guest approached the same staff member. He instantly smiled from ear to ear, bowed, and stepped out of his stall to enthusiastically assist her. This stark contrast in treatment based on nationality/race was incredibly disheartening. 2. Event Chaos & Misplaced Priorities: There was a large event happening during our stay, and the hotel completely prioritized the event attendees over regular paying hotel patrons. The lobby was chaotic, and event guests hogged the beach lazy chairs and buggies. Whenever we requested a buggy, the concierge told us to wait 10–20 minutes, yet we watched buggies constantly drive past packed with event materials, makeup kits, and luggage. As hotel guests, we felt like we were staying at their mercy. What are the hotel’s priorities? 3. Poor Pool & Beach Service: Ordering drinks at the pool or beach is a massive challenge. Staff are nowhere to be found; you have to actively hunt them down to place an order, or your waving hands will just be ignored for ages. 4. Mosquito Infestation: The poolside area is completely overrun by mosquitoes. Every single evening, my kids would get heavily bitten while at the pool. The hotel needs to implement better pest control. 5. Room & Amenities: The room felt slightly old. The layout is quite strange, with the toilet separated far away from the shower room. To make matters worse, there is no bidet. 6. Frustrating Wi-Fi & Hostile Security: The hotel Wi-Fi is a constant struggle, disconnecting for no reason and forcing you to reconnect repeatedly. Furthermore, the security personnel at the drop-off zone felt quite hostile—constantly shouting at vehicles waiting for passengers. Even if that is just their "local way of communicating," it comes across as aggressive to international travelers. Final Verdict Without Chloe, this would have been a disaster of a trip. The hardware is getting old, the Wi-Fi is frustrating, and the service (outside of Chloe) lacks training and professionalism. If management does not realign their priorities to care for their actual hotel guests over event crowds, I cannot recommend this resort. Thank you again, Chloe, for rescuing our family vacation!
Service is not up to what we expect from Westin. Nonetheless, rooms are quite spacious - not the most modern though. The rooftop pool is the best part of the hotel. The bar there is also very good, staff is more than nice. Note that the beach bar is not exclusive to hotel guests. Direct access to Duty Free mall is very convenient with lots of shops and restaurants.
Beautiful resort! Traveled with a group of 8 and 1 toddler + 1 infant. We forgot items at our hotel and Chloe found our items and organized a delivery of our lost items to our next hotel (twice!) Thank you a bunch Chloe!
Our family and friends spent 3 nights here this March and it was a fantastic experience. The highlight of our trip was definitely the service provided by Chloé, our personal assistant. She reached out before we even landed to organize our transportation, which was a huge relief. Seeing her friendly face at check-in and check-out made us feel so welcome. She was always just a message away whenever we needed help, making the entire experience feel personalized and effortless. The hotel grounds are huge with plenty of space for kids and amazing pools. We loved the clean, scenic beach, though we heeded the warnings about the strong waves and enjoyed the water from the shore instead. We highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a comfortable, high-end getaway in Sanya!
