First impressions were quite good. The room was spacious, and while a bit dated , it was well-maintained. The public areas were also nice. On our first day, the front desk service was attentive, and a supervisor even called to check on our room satisfaction. The kids' club is small and outdated, but the staff there were very friendly. However, right after that supervisor’s follow-up call, the housekeeping service took a massive nosedive. When replenishing the coffee, they just tossed in random flavors instead of replacing the ones we drank. Some towels were exchanged while others were left used. After "cleaning" the room, they left the bedside drawer wide open. Worse, used cups and the teapot were never washed—they were simply put back in their original spots. Most frustratingly, the bathroom smelled like a public restroom 90% of the time. Getting basic items via WeChat from the concierge took about an hour each time. We were staying for 4 days and 3 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I had reminded them in advance, and they explicitly promised to set up some room decorations for our special day. In the end, absolutely nothing was done. The service standards have definitely slipped and simply do not justify the price tag.

If you are thinking to make a reservation at this hotel, my advice would be not to use Expedia. Expedia's descriptions of the ammenities are not right: they may say you are booking an ocean (sea) view but the hotel staff will place you in a pool or garden view room. Expedia has no control there as majoirty of guests book via local travel sites. The hotel staff was not helpfull at all when it came to a wrong reservation, especially one particular manager, a woman who called herself "Chris": somewhat sly and deceiptful, she did her best to check us into a room that we did not book. Awful experience. We witnessed several other unhappy guests arguing at the reception desk as well. Another thing to remember is that internet connection is rather bad there: spotty and unstable, even with VPN. Overal though, it is a nice aging hotel, with clean rooms, very expensive even by the US standards restaurants, and a pretty good sandy beach. A New Year party at St. Regis Sanya was really, really bad and quite pathetic, so we had to go to the nearvy Sheraton which had a great and entertaining NY 2026 celebration. I do not think we will ever come back to this place.
Before starting the review I’d like to give a huge thanks to Ms. Luna who made our stay memorable and pleasant. She helped us absolutely with EVERYTHING and very quickly!!! Hope her management gets to read this message for a proper praise! Our stay at the St. Regis Sanya was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the staff delivered warm, attentive, and personalized service that made us feel genuinely welcomed. The property itself is stunning—lush tropical grounds, serene beachfront views, and beautifully maintained facilities that exude luxury without feeling overwhelming. The room was spacious, elegantly designed, and spotless, with thoughtful touches throughout. The cleaning came twice a day. They even put a glass and a bottle of water next to your bed in the evening. They also fill the mini bar with soft drinks to your choice. The breakfast was included and the variety of foods was impressive, more like a lunch or dinner menu. The prices at the property are high but everything is of a good quality including service. The hotel is super kids friendly. There’s indoor playground and many different activities throughout the day. You can also get 10 professional photos for free.
Stayed for 9 days at the Villa. The villa itself was fantastic. Great rooms with a private pool and jacuzzi. The butlers were very friendly and helpful. However, the food in the hotel was horrible - very expensive and not tasty. The breakfast for villa guests were supposedly to be better than the breakfast for other guests, but it had very limited selections, and the breads were stale… For a 5-star resort with a premium price tag, my husband and I had expected more. We ended up ordering in from local places, which were not great, and had to leave the premises to eat at another hotel’s restaurant. While the villa was superb, the onsite food quality is to be improved.
What an awesome resort! We had a thoroughly great time. The room is luxurious and well appointed. We had a room with access to the lagoon pool - we highly recommend this room type. The pools were very kid friendly, and the water temperature was just right. Breakfast buffet selection is good; catering across Western and Chinese cuisines. We also dined at Mei Xuan for dinners, and the Hainanese dishes were good. We spent every night at the beach bar, drinking cocktails and listening to live music from Monica. The service from the beverages team was excellent and we had great service from Claire and Dennis. Our kids loved the resort so much that they have asked for us to return for our next holiday!
