Our family had a very comfortable stay at Sofitel Sanya Leeman. The rooms are spacious, clean, and perfect for families. A special mention goes to Nikki, the butler / service manager, who was consistently attentive throughout our stay. She made sure our rooms were cleaned and tidied every day, and her warm service really stood out. The resort facilities are excellent, and the kids’ club kept my daughter engaged throughout the trip. However, there was one hiccup: I booked a one‑day camp for my daughter that included a helicopter ride. The day before the camp, I checked with the reception and was told that the camp was cancelled due to no other participants, and the helicopter ride was off because of government air control. None of this was communicated to me beforehand — I only found out because I asked. That said, the staff did their best to make up for it. They arranged the camp for my daughter alone, even without other participants, and although the helicopter ride still couldn’t proceed due to government restrictions, they offered other tokens and gestures to compensate for the miscommunication. Overall, despite the kids’ club communication issue, the hotel team handled the situation well, and we still had a very enjoyable stay. We appreciate the effort and hospitality shown by everyone at Sofitel.

Kind and comfortable to enjoy family travel. Enough room space with separated toilet and shower booth. Big bath tub...nice buffet..all are good.
Supposed do not share bad reviews on the Google! But I’ve sent this review by email to the hotel. And what they did?! Just deducted all my points from my membership account, because of this bad review. Sofitel Sanya – A Shadow of Its Former Self Rating: 1/5 I recently stayed at the Sofitel Sanya, hoping for the luxury experience the brand once promised. Unfortunately, this visit was a profound disappointment from start to finish. Loyalty Program? What Loyalty Program? As a loyal Accor member, I was shocked that the staff had absolutely no knowledge of the loyalty program. No recognition, no benefits, not even basic awareness—it felt like I was checking into a budget motel, not a five-star French-branded resort. Communication Nightmare Language barriers made every interaction a struggle. Requests were misunderstood or ignored, and basic information required repeated explanations. It’s exhausting when a hotel of this caliber cannot facilitate smooth guest-staff communication. Food: Oily, Heavy, and Unhygienic The culinary experience was dreadful. Every dish felt burdened—overly greasy, super oily, and lacking any finesse. The Thai dishes were particularly offensive: one arrived with a human black hair embedded in it. Absolutely unacceptable. I lost my appetite completely. Check-in Disaster The front desk team was arrogant and unwelcoming. Instead of a warm greeting, I received curt, dismissive attitudes. The check-in process was chaotic, slow, and frustrating—no one seemed to care. Missing the Old Days I’ve stayed here before, when European management ran the show. Back then, the food was delicious, service was polished, and staff understood hospitality. Those days are gone. The current management has clearly let standards collapse. Verdict Avoid until serious changes are made. Sofitel Sanya is riding on a faded reputation, offering overpriced mediocrity with a side of hygiene issues. I will not return.
Our Stay at Sofitel Sanya Leeman Resort – Final Stop of Our China Trip 🇨🇳 This was the 4th and final hotel of our 15-day journey across China, visiting four cities. We began in Shanghai, staying at Mandarin Oriental Pudong (One Bedroom Suite with lounge access). Our second stop was Beijing at InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun (Executive Club Room). The third hotel, and the standout of the trip, was Conrad Chongqing – easily the best room experience of our China visit. Finally, we arrived in Sanya at Sofitel Sanya Leeman Resort. Arrival & First Impressions We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, and unfortunately, the first impression was not great. There was no warm welcome no cold towels or welcome drinks, which you would expect from a luxury resort in a tropical climate. Despite booking a One Bedroom Suite 6 weeks in advance, our room was not ready. The hotel was extremely busy, mainly with families and young children, which immediately impacted the atmosphere. Club Millésime Lounge Experience The lounge felt chaotic: Tables were often dirty and not cleared Very crowded with families and children Afternoon tea selection was limited and lacked flavour No freshly squeezed juices available (unless requested) Food quality was poor and often only warm, not hot Alcohol selection was limited This lounge is simply not large enough for the number of guests. There should ideally be a separate adult-only or quiet lounge space for couples seeking a more refined experience. Service Recovery – Staff Recognition 🙏 After raising our concerns, several team members made genuine efforts to improve our stay: Nicky (Lounge Manager) – listened carefully and offered a small room rate adjustment Roy – provided 500 RMB credit for the Thai restaurant, complimentary buffet dinner for two, and late check-out until 4pm Oliver (Bar Manager) – excellent service; arranged: Buffet dinner (only charged for one person) Two complimentary cocktails Freshly made pizza delivered to the Thai restaurant Mike (Buffet Manager) – kindly arranged fresh fruit and sweets to our room John (Chef) – prepared a customised pizza, which was excellent These individuals truly understand hospitality and made a real difference to our experience. Room Clean and comfortable, though slightly dated Beautiful balcony view No Japanese-style toilet (unexpected at this level) Pillows were not very comfortable – better quality options would improve sleep Food & Beverage – Main Concern This is where the hotel needs the most improvement: Many fruits lacked natural flavour Food quality overall was disappointing Dishes often served warm instead of hot Limited variety of high-quality items Too much focus on quantity rather than quality In a luxury resort, guests should not need to request basic items like fresh juice – it should be standard. Overall Thoughts The hotel is clearly focused on domestic tourism, which is understandable. However, to attract more international (especially European) guests, significant improvements are needed in: • Food quality • Lounge experience • Personalised hospitality Luxury pricing should come with a noticeably higher standard — currently, that difference is not reflected in the experience. Final Ranking of Our China Hotels 1.🥇 Conrad Chongqing – Best overall (especially the room) 2.🥈InterContinental Beijing Sanlutin 3. 🥉 Mandarin Oriental Pudong 4. Sofitel Sanya Leeman Resort
Staff friendly however make sure if you only speak English you have a good translater app to communicate. The swim up bar not operational which was a shame. The gym was great good cardio equipment , weights etc. The food was delicious and a good price. Highly recommend the Club rooms through Trip.com as you get lots of inclusions like a great breakfast including Western food. Afternoon tea, happy hour drinks and food fantastic. Transport from the airport is 45 minutes and the Alipay app has Didi in for taxis which were a good price. Vpn essential and Wechat pay and communication
