Can't recommend this tour highly enough. We went to 4 different restuarants tasting the best that Xi'an has to offer. The food was excellent and the tour good fun

Itinerary
You will meet at an easy-to-find central location and then wind your way through the narrow streets and alleys by tuktuk within the Xi’an City Wall to find the best food in the city. We’ll take you places where only locals go. You’ll cover a lot of ground and get off the beaten path to family-run restaurants that you (and other tourists) won’t find on your own. Between food stops, you’ll be able to chat with your English-speaking guide about the city while drinking unlimited chilled beer and soda during the ride.
While visiting our 4-5 food stops, you will get to learn about the families that have been making their specialties for generations. You’ll watch your food being made and learn about what makes it so special to Xian locals. Whether it’s sitting by an old man grilling meat over coals in a quaint Muslim Quarter alleyway, or watching noodles hand-pulled to order, there is something to try for everyone. The tour will finish at the only local brewery in Xian where you can tour the facility and sample what’s on tap before we treat you to a pint of your choice.
The tour ends at a local brewery where you can sample their craft beer and then enjoy a pint of your choice.

We loved this tour. The places we visited were not touristy it was where locals eat. Our guide Nevaeh was great! Save your appetite there is a lot of food!
I had a great experience on this food tour! Our guide, Neveah, was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful throughout the tour. She gave us excellent food recommendations and made the experience really enjoyable. It was a fantastic way to discover local food and learn more about Xi’an’s food culture. Highly recommended!
Superb experience. Neo was excellent guide and the food choices perfect. Very generous helping and the accompanying beverages brilliant. Tuk tuks experience in themselves and ending and a superb craft beer taproom perfect cap to evening.
Our tour guide, Buren, was fantastic. He was knowledgeable about the food, the city, the history, and the culture. He even provided further recommendations on where else to eat in Xi’an and China. Would highly recommend based on the guide alone.
Tremendous tour. Varied places and food - interesting, knowledgeable and charming guide.
Neo, our guide, was one of the best I’ve had so far! He was incredibly knowledgeable, and every food spot he took us to was fantastic. We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the tour! I’d highly recommend Lost Plate, and especially Neo as your guide, if you’re ever in Xi’an and looking for a great food tour!
This was one of our favourite experiences in Xi’an. The tuk tuk tour took us right through the back alleyways of the Muslim Quarter, which made it feel much more local and interesting than just walking the main tourist streets. The food was fantastic and there was so much variety. We tried biang biang noodles, Xi’an-style soup dumplings, cumin meat skewers, and then finished with an enormous final feast including a whole chicken that had been boiled, steamed and then fried, wood ear mushrooms with fresh walnut, and a delicious soup with pork dumplings and fresh vegetables served with a huge rice cracker. Anna, our guide, was amazing. She was warm, knowledgeable and made the whole evening so much fun. She also went out of her way to surprise my 8-year-old with some traditional Xi’an sweets, which was such a thoughtful touch and absolutely made her night. Our tuk tuk driver was fantastic as well, and travelling through the smaller streets this way was a brilliant part of the experience. A really memorable way to see another side of Xi’an and try food we probably never would have found on our own. Highly recommended.
We had a great time with our guide Neo who showed us some hidden gems for biang biang noodles and other delicious dishes. One tip, don't open your drink before you get in the tuk tuk - that was a bit bumpy and led to some splashing. But it was all good fun
Jane the tour leader was fantastic, very informative. The tut tuk ride was fun.
The best experience I had in Xi'an, and one of the best tours I have done, ever. Our guide Buren was friendly and extremely knowledgeable, and walked us through the main cuisine elements alongside colourful personal anecdotes. Remarkable value for money: you will be driven around in tuk tuk and fed some of the best food in the city. We loved it. We would do it again.
We had the best guide the evening of 10/17. She was knowledgeable, personable, courteous, and kind. I wish I could remember her name!! I highly recommend this tour.
I had an amazing experience in the tour and particularly thanks to Buren. He was such a true foodie, very knowledgable and enthutiastic about food ( not only from Xian, but the whole of China). We visited 4 restaurants and one brewery, and during the tuk tuk drive they gave us beers to drink ( and other no -alcoholic drinks). It was such a fun experience. Buren explained us everything about the food, and even encouraged us to choose any food that we wanted to try. We tried a lot of dishes, so go hungry! We had a very friendly group, and we stayed until late having a beer and chatting. I highly recommend this tour, it was one of the hilights of my trip to China.
We’ve been on many food tours around the world but this was one of the best. The food was super unique to Xi’an and riding tuk tuks between stops added a cool element. The best part of it was our guide, Buren. He’s a foodie through and through and was eager to share his passion. He went to school nearby the quarter and his joy for the food and the important part it has played in his family traditions is obvious. He even left us with personalized postcard as memories. Finding the fire station to start the tour was not as obvious as expected—when in Xi’an in the future I’ll remember to switch to whatsapp maps—but Buren dropped a pin to the first restaurant and we grabbed a tuk tuk and beat the group there so no problem. All in all very delicious tastings and an excellent food tour.
Grant’s 🇺🇸 Foodie Review: Lost Plate’s Xi’an Food Tour with Guide Buren was my 2nd Lost Plate Food Tour in Beijing. My experience in Xi’an was not only mouth watering, but a true foodie delight as I sat before each dish on the culturally rich streets of Xi’an. Buren explained the nuance of each dish in a way to connect the food to the stomach and heart ♥️. From the infamous Biang Biang Noodles to the Emperor’s Fried Chicken it was an easy task to lick each plate clean! If you dare come to foodie heaven, best to book Lost Plate Xi’an Food tour with Master Buren!
There are so many places to eat in Xian that we were relieved to go on this tour and be taken to such amazing food spots. Diehl was a great host and shared so much knowledge. Ending at the brewery was a great touch. The beers were so interesting!
It was truly an AMAZING experience. Cindy is a passionate guide and eager to share all the knowledge about Chinese culture. She took us to authentic restaurants, not tourist traps. Every stops came with an explanation and a cultural context discussion. So nice ! 100 % would recommand it !!!!!
Great experience, excellent food! We've done similar food tours in at least 10 other places and Buren was our favorite guide yet. Knowledgeable, funny, and super generous with recommendations for places to hit before/after the tour. Cannot recommend him and Lost Plate enough!
Buren was a terrific guide! He was extremely friendly and accommodating and communicated well both before and after the tour. The tuktuks were ready and waiting for us at all the stops and it was great fun to be driven through the Muslim quarter. The food was delicious and I got to visit places that I wouldn't have on my own.
The guide (Cindy) was incredible and the group was a lot of fun. We ate loads of very tasty food in places where you otherwise wouldn’t go so quickly. Just great positive vibes all around - even the Tuktuk drivers (2 were women) were lovely
This was a great mix of food we'd had on our radar (like lamb skewers and liangpi noodles) and dishes we hadn't expected (like eight treasures zhou and gourd chicken), not to mention a nice mix of local drinks. Neveah was a wonderful guide and gave us ample cultural background. Excited for our next Lost Plate tour!
We had an absolutely exceptional experience with Jane. From the very start, the pickup was seamless, and traveling between venues by tuk-tuk proved to be a delightful, scenic way to navigate the city.Jane curated an incredible itinerary of four culinary hidden gems that we never would have discovered on our own. Each stop offered a wonderful exploration of local Xian cuisine. A true highlight was watching the owner of a local noodle shop—who dedicates herself entirely to her craft—hand-pull fresh Biangbiang noodles, which quickly became our favorite dish of the night. Over the course of the evening, we also savored perfectly seasoned skewered beef and lamb, authentic local dumplings, and a spectacular steamed-then-fried chicken, before concluding our night at a charming local bar.Beyond the exceptional food, Jane was an extraordinary guide. She shared profound insights into the daily lives of Xian residents and the rich history behind every dish we tasted. The pacing of the tour was immaculate; we spent a relaxed 20 to 30 minutes at each location and never felt rushed.Operating as a private group of seven, the setting felt intimate, and everyone had ample opportunity to engage and ask questions. The tour is worth every penny and far surpasses a standard dinner out. It seamlessly pairs a diverse culinary tasting with a deep dive into local culture. This is an absolute must-do experience in Xian that I highly recommend for families, couples, and solo travelers alike!
Very nice and sometimes unusual food in places we would never have known about with very interesting commentary from our guide. Well managed and the tuk tuk ride was worth the money itself. Very enjoyable
Great tour, informative, lovely guide, interesting part of the city.
Excellent. Very informative but most importantly very tasty
A wonderful start to our Xi’an stay. Diehal was a superb guide. Good English and excellent knowledge of local foods and Xi’an culture and history. Highly recommend.
We loved everything about it. No way we wouldve experienced all that delicious food on our own. Jacqueline was a lovely guide <3
We're a family of six, with kids from 7 to 21. We had a great time. From the drinks to start, the Tuk Tuk to each stop, the guide and her stories about the history of the food, to the final stop, we had a great time and it gave us exactly what we wanted.
Diehl was a great guide. We were only a group of 3 but she made the tour so interesting and entertaining. The food was so good- good portions at each stop. Would definitely do a tour like this again
This was a fun and filling tour. Jialin gave us a broad understanding of the food in the region and what made it special. Tuk tuks helped with seeing the many small streets in Xi’an’s Muslim quarter. Small group was great. Highly recommend.
Our restaurant tour with guide Jacqueline was a trip highlight. She knew Xi’an’s food scene inside out. The pace felt relaxed, not rushed, and it really felt like eating with a local friend rather than following a tourist checklist. Highly recommend if you want real Xian flavor!
We have just come back from an amazing evening for tour with the wonderful Diehl. She was very knowledgeable, interesting (told us lots about the food but also Xi’an) and fun and really suited to our family of 3 teens plus parents. I would highly recommend both for the food but also the fantastic guide. Really enjoyable - thank you so much Diehl.
This was a fantastic experience. Guide was informative and the food delightful. Got to eat as places we would never be able to find ourselves. Great way to spend an evening.
Have done a number of Lost Plate tours over the years in Beijing, Xi’An, Shanghai, Chengdu and will be now looking at Bangkok. Their restaurant picks and tour guides have never ever failed to deliver amazing foods and welcoming atmosphere’s that plunge you into authentic experiences wherever you are.
A great experience in Xi’an. We scheduled this tour for our first evening in Xi’an and I really recommend doing it this way so you can get an idea of where and what to eat while you’re in the city. Our guide, Buren was excellent, friendly and has since sent us over great recs for the rest of our stay. Loved the experience and would do it all over again :)
We were able to have lots of delicious food on this tour, including most of the key dishes we were looking to try in Xi’an. The experience of the tour was definitely elevated by our fantastic and friendly guide, Buren. We appreciated his knowledge of food history, and his anecdotes which added a personal touch to the places we visited. Even after the tour ended, Buren very kindly gave us some suggestions of restaurants in our upcoming cities in China - which were great suggestions! Thanks again to Buren for his food knowledge and friendly demeanour.
We booked several food tours for our recent China trip with Lost Plate Tours as we feel its a great way to experience fantastic food that we would likely have never come across otherwise. Xi'an was our first one of the trip and was definitely the best one. We appreciated the thorough communication with the Lost Plate office for inquiries and booking, along with the pre-tour communication for meeting place, etc. Our tour guide was Diehl who made a for a fun night. She's very personable and knowledgeable about city history and the restaurants that we stopped at. We liked hearing the back stories of the shop owners as we ate their wonderfully prepared and tasty food. The tuk tuks used for transport were fun to ride in going from shop to shop. Through our tuk tuk conversations with Diehl, she provided recommendations on bubble tea shops for us to visit in town and we made an impromptu stop at a fruit vendor so Diehl could help us purchase a fresh durian at local's prices. These added touches were very much appreciated and shows how great she is as a guide. Don't hesitate to book a Xi'an food tour with Lost Plate.
Wonderful!! Diehl was exceptional and so so friendly! She made us feel so comfortable and we loved getting to know her while learning about Xi’an! The food was delicious and tasted so good. Thanks so much. Would highly recommend.
This is my third food tour with Lost Plate - arrive hungry!! And pace yourself for this one! hahah. Our guide was excellent, super friendly and knowledgable. She grew up in Xi'an and had lots of different stories to share.
An illuminating and delicious trip and an excellent introduction to the otherwise impenetrable whirlwind of Xi'an's Muslim Quarter. Buren was a knowledgeable and responsive guide, as well as good company. High recommend
Excellent tour, great way to explore
I had already done Lost Plate's food tour in Chengdu so booking this thing was a no-brainer. Our guide was really cool and took us to places I would never be able to find on my own as a tourist. Covered all the main popular foods of Xian too.
This was an absolute pleasure! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, not only in food topics, but history and cultural facts :D We took us to hidden gems and corners that we would have never found on our own, and also gave us a few tips for the rest of our time in Xi’an. If you’re going to Xi’an, enjoy trying authentic local food (not necessarily targeted for tourists) I’d say this tour it’s a must!
Our guide Jennifer was informative about the food. The food was lovely and you got to sit with the locals. Going down the small streets in the tuktuk was fun, and we got to see different areas. I will highly recommend it.
Diehl was an excellent guide. The food was fantastic, the neighborhood was lively and exciting, and the beer at the end was a perfect finish to the evening. The tour winds through a maze-like network of alleys filled with countless food options, and without a guide we never would have known where to go or what to order. Every stop Diehl selected was outstanding, especially the Biang-Biang noodles, which were a highlight for us. I also had no idea Xi’an had such a great beer culture — the IPA I tried was terrific. Beyond the food itself, simply walking through the streets at night among the locals made the experience memorable. Highly recommended.
We had an amazing evening experiencing the food of Xi’an with our fantastic guide Buren. Firstly, he was super knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about good food and the local region. Throughout the tour he shared personal stories and interesting history which really added to the occasion. The tuk-tuks were well organised and lots of fun - zooming around the food markets and seeing the other side to the city. And then the food was incredible. My highlight was the skewers and the tofu at the last stop (a restaurant which Buren visits with his family). My husband loved the biang biang noodles. Lots of water, soft drinks and beers are provided throughout, with a reminder to be culturally aware of the Muslim population which was respected. Without question, I would highly recommend, and if you are lucky enough to get Buren as your guide then you are in for a special evening.
The tour is great. Really delicious food and you learn a lot. Our tour guide was very nice!
Great guide, great food, great tuk tuk. Opportunity to visit the Muslim quarter and try delicious food, visiting places I would not have done without a guide. Loved the guides knowledge and stories
Nivea was our Host for the tuk tuk food tour through the narrow alleys in and around the Muslim quarter in the old city. We started with biang biang noodles watching the chef make them by hand. Then in restaurant two to bbq skewers of beef and lamb . Our 3rd restaurant saw us taste soup noodles, cold sesame paste noodles and a dessert of sweet congee. It was then to our last stop we finished with a first boiled, then steamed and finally roasted whole chicken with its head and feet still attached. All the restaurants were small family restaurants. We finished the evening at a bar sampling local beers and ciders. Nivea our Host was expansive in her knowledge and command of English.
An collect food tour once again. Guide was knowledgeable and pleasant. English was excellent. Food and drinks were extraordinary. Enjoyed our night immensely.
