We had an amazing experience at the Terracotta Warriors. Our guide Villa was wonderful and gave us so much more context than we would have got from the limited signs alone. I’d definitely recommend paying a little extra for a private tour. It can be extremely busy inside and the fewer of you there are the easier it is to find a small gap by the various barriers to get a good view. Thank you!

Tour was great, first class service. What made the tour so good was our guide Linda. Her english and historical knowledge was excellent.
It worried every penny! Our guide Maria was very knowledgeable and caring. She picked us up at the train station and dropped us at the airport! Yes we just came for half a day to see Terra-cotta while we were in China! It could not be better for our limited time. She had very good suggestion for restaurant/ lunch as well
Our pickup was smooth and on time, and Rosa, our guide, communicated clearly from start to finish. She clearly knows the site well and took the time to explain the warriors and the history behind them in great detail, which made the visit far more meaningful. My only reservation was the pace. The tour felt a little rushed, with not much time to stop for photos or take a short break for a snack. It didn’t help that the site was extremely crowded the day we went, which made it harder to slow down and take everything in. I think that was mostly bad luck with timing rather than anything the tour could control. Overall, it’s a well-organised way to see the Terracotta Warriors, and I would still recommend it. If you can, ask your guide at the start to build in a few extra minutes for photos and a quick bite.
Great experience. Once in a life time. Our guide was Lumi. She did a great job. She was very flexible with us as we were on a private tour and asked for a minor deviation. Great time.
We had an amazing time visiting the Terracotta Army with our guide Jing! She spoke perfect French, was incredibly kind, knowledgeable and an absolute pleasure to spend the day with. She picked us up from our hotel right on time and, despite how crowded the site was, always made sure we could get to the front for the best views. Her explanations were fascinating and really brought the history to life. I was personally not particularly excited about visiting the Terracotta Army beforehand, but thanks to Jing, it ended up being one of the highlights of our entire trip to China! We could not have asked for a better guide. Thank you so much, Jing! Highly recommended!
I strongly recommend this tour company. Our guide Julia was kind and accommodating. Her knowledge of the museum and Xi’an was extraordinary and gave us so much historical and current information. Julia organised a wheelchair guide for my mum at the warriors and was great at building us through the exhibits and the crazy crazy crowds. We got so much out of this day. It was the best. We even extended our tour with a cultural show. I recommend this to anyone travelling with elderly people and if you have mobility needs they are definitely accommodating.
Our guide Agnes took us for a thorough tour of the Terracotta Warriors. She was knowledgeable and informative and knew everwhere to go, including where to get photos taken. On the way out, she showed us where to go for a virtual reality show of ancient China. We would never have found this on our own, and it was an amazing and surreal experience, well worth the moderate entrance fee.
Rosa our guide and Mr. Zhang our driver were fantastic for this tour of the Terra Cotta Warriors. The pickup from the train was smooth and Rosa gave an excellent orientation on the way there. At the museum she knew the fastest routes to get us from one site to the next, gave us the best photo spots, and was extremely knowledgeable about the history and archeological techniques. Mr. Zhang got us back to the hotel in plenty of time for our evening food tour. Bravo!
Excellent experience, excellent guide, excellent Spanish, excellent explanation of everything, and a very beautiful and interesting place.
Fantastic knowledgeable guide very friendly and it was a pleasure spending time with het
We had a fantastic experience visiting the Terracotta Warriors, and a large part of that was thanks to our guide, Kai. He was extremely helpful, attentive and knowledgeable throughout the tour, providing plenty of interesting information without ever making it feel overwhelming. We were travelling with young children, and this is where Kai really stood out. He was excellent at interacting with them, keeping them involved and interested, and explaining things in a way they could understand and enjoy. Travelling to a major historical site with children can sometimes be challenging, but Kai was patient, engaging and very considerate of their needs, which made the whole experience much more enjoyable for our family. He also made everything very easy for us, guiding us through the site efficiently and making sure we were comfortable and knew what we were looking at along the way. The Terracotta Warriors themselves are extraordinary and absolutely worth visiting, but having such an attentive and informative private guide made the experience even better. We were extremely happy with the tour and would particularly recommend Kai to anyone visiting Xi’an with children.
Kai was the best. On the way to the site he gave us a historic background of China and the Terracotta Warriors. During the tour he showed us the best spots to get photos of the warriors and explained everything. He helped us buy souvenirs, the goods ones and the cheap ones. The drives to the site and back to the hotel were pleasant. Thank you Kai.
It was an excellent terracotta Warriors experience with Tina tour guide. She is a nice and competent woman.
We had a fantastic experience visiting the Terracotta Warriors Museum. Our tour guide, Kai, was excellent! His English was great, he was extremely knowledgeable, and he made the history and significance of the Terracotta Warriors really interesting and easy to follow.
This was an amazing experience, enhanced considerably by Agnes our private guide. She gave us the detail and history that enabled us to fully appreciate the enormity of the site.
What a fantastic tour to the Terracotta Warriors with my husband. Agnes was an amazing tour guide, she knew everything about Xi’An and her knowledge about the Terracotta soldiers was second to none. Agnes’s English was excellent and she was on time at our hotel with the driver. Driver was excellent and we had a very comfortable car, spacious, with air conditioning and free water. Agnes really took care of us to make sure we would get to the venue safely and enjoy lots of amazing facts a long the way. Totally recommend!
Had a memorable experience today visiting the terracotta warriors in Xian. Our tour guide Serena was very knowledgeable and entertaining and fun. Our tour organizer, Cathy, was very detailed and organized our trip door to door. From being picked up from our hotel in Beijing, driven to train station, preordered bullet train tickets, arranging pick up from Xian train station, and great tour of terracotta warriors museum. Highly recommend this tour.
Excellent all around, especially the guide, Julia. A timely pick up from the hotel, a comfortable car ride, and an expert tour.
Kai, our English speaking guide, was amazing. Explained a lot about the tour, historical facts and jokes. We have enjoyed a lot! The driver is as also really nice and the car was super comfortable. I’d definitely recommend this tour and Kai as a guide!
Thanks Kai for a great tour. Punctual and timed the pace well during the tour. Explained the history and the information of the exhibits in detail. Engaged in interesting conversations during the journey to and from the museum.
Tina explained Qin dynasty like a good teacher very well in english language. She answerred all our question from Fengshui, history, timing to food. Biang Noodles and other dishes dessert and drinks are included in the tour.
Tina is an amazing tour guide! Her knowledge of history context and culture brought the terracotta warriors to life! Tina’s energy and enthusiasm and incredible experience more than 20 years - helped us make the most of our short time in Xian. To top it off the pick up and drop off in the top notch vehicle made the day easy and luxurious. Be sure to ask for Tina! She will make your expletive magical!
Another trip that everyone should try to visit during their lifetime, truly amazing story but be prepared for how busy it can be mainly from local tourists
We had a wonderful experience visiting the Terracotta Army with Kai. It was exactly what we were looking for!! His English was excellent, and he was knowledgeable, engaging and very easy to understand. He was able to bring the history to life in the perfect amounts and made our visit truly memorable. We would highly recommend him!
We visited the Terracotta Warriors as part of our tour with Rosa, and the site was packed with crowds. Rosa was knowledgeable throughout and made a real effort to secure us good viewing spots despite how busy it was. Lunch afterward was delicious too. If you're booking a Terracotta Warriors tour, ask for Rosa — she'll work to get you a proper view even when the crowds are heavy.
Wonderful experience and our tour guide TINA was fantastic, thank you! 🙏🏼
Be ready for crowds and standing. It was also quite hot. Overall Elise was a fantastic guide who offered us cold packs that really made the heat more bearable. She provided a very educational tour!
This was one of the highlights of our trip to China despite the very large crowds. It is indeed one of the most fascinating places in China. Julia, our guide, was absolutely amazing in guiding us through the crowds and super nice with us and the children. We could not have asked for better.
We weren't quite sure what to expect, but this trip blew us away. Julia, our guide, was so friendly and knowledgeable, she really brought to life the history and story behind the Terracotta Warriors and the amazing Emporer that united China 2000 years ago. Julia went at our pace, she knew all the shortcuts and although she has done this job for a long time, her passion and knowledge on the subject, coupled with her excitement at the new elements being discovered, meant the tour was fresh and fascinating. I would highly recommend this tour, thank you so much Julia!
Pros: On-time pick-up, a tour guide with exceptional knowledge, and hassle-free entry to the exhibition. Mixed experience: The tour followed more of a "Chinese-style" approach to sightseeing, meaning the goal seemed to be to get through everything as quickly as possible. We only visited about half of Pit 1 before having to convince the guide to go back so we could see the rest. Many European travelers prefer to spend some time at a site, look around, take in the atmosphere, and learn about what they're seeing rather than rushing through it. The stop at the "Farmer's Market" after visiting the Terracotta Warriors felt like walking through a duty-free shop at an airport—you simply have to pass through it. Since this stop is not highlighted as part of the tour in the description, we were surprised by how much emphasis seemed to be placed on it. At times, we had the impression that it was more important to the guide than the Terracotta Warriors themselves. Overall: This tour is a great option if you want to visit this impressive site without having to worry about tickets or transportation. However, I strongly recommend discussing with your guide at the beginning how you would like to explore the exhibition. Otherwise, you may find yourself back outside after just 20 minutes. That's why I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars. It was a good tour, but not the perfect private tour we had expected.
This was absolutely worth the money. Julia, our guide, picked us up at our hotel. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and her English was perfect! She knew soooo much about the warriors; my family and I agreed that we would not have been able to get all of the story or information that Julia provided just going by ourselves. She answered all of Chinese culture questions and was incredibly welcoming. It is something you HAVE to experience!
Rosa is an excellent guide. She is very knowledgeable and speaks great English. It was very crowed and very hot on the day of our tour, and she is very patient. She also helped us book tickets to a nighttime show.
This tour is run by Catherine Lu tours, and they are an extremely professional outfit. The communication was great, pickup was perfect, and our guide Julia was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and articulate, and made the whole experience even more memorable than it would have been otherwise. I can’t imagine coming to visit the Terracotta Warriors without a guide, and I can honestly say that our guide, and her company were 5 star in all respects. Highly recommended.
We were so lucky to have a Guide in Rena, her English was very good her knowledge was excellent with a lovely personality, my wife and I were so lucky to be guided by her to the viewing of the Terracotta Warriors. The Icing on the cake in her arranging to meet the Farmer Yang Gaojian, who discovered the Terracotta Warriors in March 1974. In all a fantastic day so well arranged. A big big thank you to Rena.
We had a terrific morning at the Terracotta Warriors site with our tour guide, Villa. Since the heat was so intense during our trip to Xi’an, we opted to get an early start. Villa and Mr Chow picked us up at our hotel promptly at 7:30 am. During the hour-long drive to the Terracotta Warriors, Villa shared the history of the Qin dynasty, the Emperor, and the Terracotta Army. Throughout the whole visit, he told stories that helped the place come to life for us, and that made the experience really rewarding. Villa also knew the space well and helped us navigate through some very thick crowds to get great photos and see the statues up close. As well, we had fun swapping stories about our favorite American movies (Jaws, Alien, etc)—Villa learned to speak English very well by watching them! All in all, a wonderful experience. Highly recommend it!
Wonderful experience! Our guide was the best ever! She gave us all the inside stories and took our son by the hand thru the crowds, she loves children! The Warriors came to life because of her! Great tour company!
This was a great choice for a tour to see the Terracotta Warriors. Elith, our guide, was brilliant. She told us many stories about the local history as well as the story of the warriors and this amazing historical site. Elith was everything that we could hope for in a tour guide - spoke great English, was knowledgeable, and kind and courteous too! Thanks also to our driver, John.
Our tour guide Lisa did a very good job. She gave us an excellent explanation in our way to Terracota, then she did us a very god tour with detail information and allowing enough time for enjoying the visit. Very friendly and supportive. Without a question we could repeat a tour with her.
Both the tour guide and driver were great. We had a fantastic time. Thank you for the excellent tour!
Kai was such a friendly and knowledgeable guide! We learned so much about Chinese history and culture. He helped us navigate the crowds and made sure we saw and photographed all the highlights. We highly recommend a visit to the Terracotta Warriors with Kai as your guide! And be sure to ask if the farmer is there!!
Kay our guide was very knowledgeable providing great history of not terracotta warriors but also the city of xi’an as well. He was patient with our picture and video taking. He also helped for me personally wanting to purchase a terracotta warrior for home. Having him assure what I am purchasing is correct. We are also very fortunate for meet the farmer who found he first artificers in 1974
We had a wonderful time with Kai. He was knowledgeable, personable, and fun, and he made our visit to the Terracotta Warriors a highlight of our trip. We would recommend him without hesitation to anyone visiting Xi’an.
Fantastic tour. Rosa was incredible and very knowledgeable. Great experience overall. Would highly recommend
Great tour with our guide Julia tioday. Amazing knowledge of the area . Julia has excellent English and communicates so professionally. She is obviously passionate about her job and it is contagious. Thanks for a fantastic and very memorable visit to the magnificent Terracotta Warriors 💥
Lisaliu was an excellent guide for our private tour of the Terra Cotta Warriors. There were no questions she couldn’t answer. Our daughter loves to hear about history and Lisaliu was the perfect fit. The location and history was amazing. On the ride back she recommended a restaurant close to our hotel which was one of our best meals in China. She even helped us choose menu items which we took snapshots of and used those photos at the restaurant to order. She also recommended a location to see lots of lights at night which was breathtaking. Thanks again.
Our private tour guide, Tina has been wonderful and candid in sharing with us the historical background of Xi’an; leading to our visit to the Terracotta Warriors. This has made the trip very insightful. Dishes served at lunch were delicious. Transport to and fro train station was very comfortable as well. Thank you for the warm welcome! 👍🏼
Kai was a great tour leader for our private Terracotta Warriors tour. He was easy to understand, was able to answer all our questions, and told some interesting stories. The car was roomy and comfortable and the driver very safe.
I booked an early morning tour to Terracotta Warriors. Everything went smoothly. Kai picked me up in a luxury sedan, arranged for the entrance tickets before we arrived and we were able to tour the Terracotta Warrior site before it became overcrowded. Kai's English was excellent and he did a good job of pacing the tour so I could spend as much time as I wanted at each location. At the end of the tour, he dropped me off at the Muslim quarter in Xian and took the time to show me the Muslim mosque in Xian. All in all I had a great experience with Kai and would recommend this tour.
Excellent guide Kai. Very knowledgeable, also shared lots of information on life in Xian. Clean vehicle, plenty of water. Catherine Wu tours can be trusted to provide a memorable experience.
