A fantastic and wonderful experience! The tour was beautiful, and the visit to Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top was adorable—a dream come true for me. The guide was very kind; everything was excellent. Thank you so much!
Peter, our guide, was great and shared interesting information and curious facts all throughout the tour. I very much enjoyed our visit to Beatrix Potter's House and the pretty villages in the surrounding area. I was looking forward to the cruise in Windermere, main reason why I chose this tour, however, and to my surprise/disappointment, this was changed to Coniston on the day, by the Company and with no reason. I don't think this was right.
Peter F - our friendly & knowledgeable tour guide, with interesting details about the local area and, with a sense of humour. Punctual departures & arrival back to base. Fun day.
Just long enough to see everything comfortably without feeling rushed. Commentary was informative. Good value for money.
Fascinating introduction to the Lake District, its supporters, and its history. However, the recently acquired minibuses need to have one row of seats removed and the others repositioned to increase the legroom and make it easier to get into and out of the seats. Also, more time needs to be allowed when visiting Hawkshead - an extra 15 minutes would be better. Make sure that the tour is booked on a day when Hill Top is open, otherwise Beatrix Potter’s home will be missed.
Well organized with a great guide (Jason) excellent weather and enough time.
Fabulous tour, Hill Top is a gorgeous place to visit and we had plenty of time to explore the house and the village. Dave our guide was excellent, full of knowledge and a love for Beatrix which made all the difference! All the stops were beautiful (despite us having rainy weather) would absolutely recommend!!
Directions were somewhat vague about the itinerary. I think the fact that a tour of Potter's home (not open on Fridays) was actually not available to us was not made clear in the itinerary write-up. To be honest I thought the B. Potter's "experience" was a bit lame. I did enjoy the boat ride, and the later drive around Lake Windermere seeing some of the local sites with Ed's narration was great.
Very informative and enjoyable. Our guide Jason was very good, very knowledgeable and friendly.
Such a wonderful experience great value for money, would recommend
We really enjoyed the tour and Stef was great, providing lots of information and made the trip excellent. Thank you Stef!
Fantastic experience, Mel was absolutely great and showed us some great places.
This was the worst tour I have ever been on. We were led to believe that it would be a "Small Group Tour" but it turned out to be a huge coach with 20+ people crammed on. There was no leg room and I had to sit with my rucksack on my lap because there was no space. Worst of all, when we actually got to Beatrix Potter's house at Hill Top, 3 other huge Mountain Goat coaches arrived at the same time full of elderly Americans. That mean that there must have been nearly 80 people arriving at a tiny place all at the same time on purpose, organised by Mountain Goat. Disgraceful! Everybody was left to queue and fend for themselves. We queued for some time but in the end only had 10 minutes in the house. What a let-down! I would never recommend Mountain Goat Tours for anything, the advertising is misleading and they obviously don't care about the customer experience, just cramming as many people as possible onto huge coaches.
The tour was fantastic and our driver, Dave, was most helpful and really went out of his way to make sure we were all taken care of and well informed. He was very knowledgeable about the history and this made for an excellent adventure. One to remember!!!!!
The trip was wonderful and our guide and host Steve was quite a knowledgeable man and we learnt a lot about local history here.
The tour is comprehensive and varied and you learn a lot about Beatrix Potter. The bus was comfortable and our tour guide Tim was fun and professional and passionate about sharing his knowledge.
The driver/ tour guide was exceptional, deeply personable, and was from the area and made the experience fun, but the attractions werent worth half a day and that much money
My son and I had a fab trip, the cruise was amazing in the beautiful sunshine, it was lovely to see Beatrix Potter's stunning cottage & the tour around after was very informative....when I asked my son what part of the trip was his fav, his reply was 'meeting Graham the tour guide' hehe
Our tour guide Stef was amazing. He gave a lot of information about everything you see during the trip. He was also very helpful, relaxed, politely, enthusiastic.. you get it i can go on and on.. Thanks for the wonderfull afternoon Stef!
Great trip Stef very knowledgeable and kind explaining everywhere he took us in detail. Top marks
Excellent, informative and friendly trip. Our guide Steve was fun, friendly and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour,
Jason our guide was local and his information was superb
This tour was comprehensive, included a cruise, visit to a 'castle', visit to the house at Hilltop Farm, Earn Hows and Hawkeshead. The tour director was well-informed, presenting information easily.
I always look at reviews before I book a tour and I've been on a lot of tours. The reviews for this tour with Mountain Goat Tours looked excellent but my experience of going on the tour itself certainly wasn't. My wife and friends came to the Lake District for this tour but were so let down by it. We were packed like cattle onto a big 16 seater bus which arrived at Hill Top House after another bus, run by Mountain Goat Tours arrived with 16 Americans doing a group tour. As if that wasn't bad enough, there were also two other buses full of Japanese people also on a group tour which arrived at the same time. Hill Top is tiny and having so many people arrive at the same time was ludicrous. The staff at Hill Top didn't look very happy either as there seemed to be no advance planning to space this huge crowd out by Mountain Goat.It felt that they valued the big group tours over the independent tour that we were on. We were told that we had to wait until all of the group tours had been through and were just left to wander by ourselves about the garden. There were two Mountain Goat people with our tour though who did nothing. Eventually, we were allowed in but it was crammed and it really wasn't the experience that I was led to believe it was from the tour description and the reviews. It ruined our day and my wife and friends were very, very disappointed. I would not recommend Mountain Goat Tours.
Couldn’t ask for more was a wonderful day many thanks to the guide he was so helpful and told as everything we wanted and needed to know and really friendly
What a lovely day! We were guided and driven by Andy, a gentleman whose knowledge, charm and professionalism were impressive. The minibus was clean and comfortable. Andy checked frequently that all his guests were getting enough a/c and could hear. The ferry ride across Lake Windermere was so beautiful, with white fluffy clouds and blue sky above the lovely hills around the lake. We enjoyed all the stops, including Wray Castle, Hawkshead, points of beauty around the lakes, the location of a Roman fort and of course, Hilltop, Beatrix Potter’s farm. The guides at the farm were so happy to go into details for anyone who wanted to talk about the furnishings, art or history , and seemed genuinely thrilled by our interest. We could have happily spent hours in the gardens. This tour would be a win for not just Beatrix Potter fans, but also to enjoy the beauty, history and charm of the Lake District.
I enjoyed visiting Beatrix Potter’s home Hill Top Farm but would have liked more time there. I also enjoyed the cruise on the lake and the other places we visited. I would recommend the tour to other visitors to the Lakes.
I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Our driver was excellent, very knowledgeable and chatty. It was a good all round experience
We had such a wonderful time on this half day tour of Beatrix Potter’s home & Lake District countryside. Peter Fox our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable about both Potter and the general countryside which played to both my and my husband’s interests. We loved getting to see Potter’s home, Hill Top Farm, and learn about her sheep raising. The lake cruise on Windermere was great fun and a nice way to break up the driving. We also visited Tarn Hows which was stunning, Wray Castle, and a stop in Hawkshead, a medieval village with delicious gingerbread. When we booked the tour, we didn’t realize there would be so many opportunities to get out of the van and explore areas on our own and were thrilled that we were able to do so. Book direct through Mountain Goat to make sure you are getting the correct tour.
Our day touring the Lake District with our guide, Tim, was one of the highlights of this part of our trip. I had been wanting to see Beatrix Potter's home ever since I was a child hearing my grandmother read the stories to me, so this was a dream come true. Seeing Peter Rabbit's garden made the story come alive all over again. The cruise on Lake Windermere was also lovely way to enjoy the day.
Our guide David was so knowledgeable and a great sense of humor!! Made for a fabulous day. Learned ans saw soo much.
Going on this tour was supposed to be the highlight of our time in the Lake District but it wasn't what we expected. I think we must have gone with the wrong company because this was pretty poor compared to the other tours we have been on in the Lake District. We should have checked who the tour was with before booking!
This tour provides a short boat cruise on the Windermere and a visit to Beatrice Potters house. Our guide Graham was very good.
Gerry the driver and guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and patient. He told us a lot about the history of the area from Romans to Vikings to present day and was very proud of the Lake District. He was also full of knowledge and admiration for Beatrix Potter and her life and lasting influence and impact on the Lake District.
We thought that this would be a different tour than the "Mountain Goat Afternoon Tour of the Lake District" tour but it is not. If you read the write ups, they are exactly the same so I don't know where it is different to this one. Surely it would be less misleading to have just one tour rather than making it look like there are two different ones available. Hill Top Farm was nice and we enjoyed the area but we were very much left to our own devices. We were left outside Hawkshead and had to find our way around the village. The timing was awkward for lunch and we didn't get to see much. Tarn Hows was very pretty but I had to find out about where we went and why after the tour by myself. All in all, we all felt it was confusing, misleading, rushed and superficial. Don't feel we benefited from this tour very much except for a boat trip - we could have done that ourselves though.
Hill top is closed on a Friday!!
Definitely worth doing. The tour was great with all the knowledge and information about Beatrix Potter and the countryside around her farm house. Tim was an amazing guide. Thank you.
Lovely scenery. Graham, our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The microphone on the bus was inoperable but Graham spoke loud enough for us to hear. Thank you Graham.
Hilltop is closed often on Fridays so just be aware of that when booking. World of Beatrix potter was the substitute and was very impressive. We booked a tour of Hilltop separately for the next day.
If you are are a fan of Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter DON'T do this tour!
Tim was an incredible guide. So knowledgeable of the area and the history. We had a lovely day! Highly recommend.
We went on this tour with Mark P . He was a great guide with a wealth of information to share. We learned so much about Beatrix Potter that we didnt know before hand. The scenary was great. The tour encountered a huge traffic accident that caused a gridlock. Mark kept his calm and managed a stressful situation with confidence and calm. We got back to our starting point with no stress , thanks to his calm and friendly approach. I woukd definatly recommend this tour to anyone.
Be prepared for a roller coaster ride in the coach when you travel to Hill Top! It’s really secluded. But once you’re there it’s a beautiful little place and left much as Beatrix Potter left it. Well worth the trek.
What a wonderful tour. Our tour guide Stef was amazing - so knowledgeable, so accommodating, passionate about the area and an excellent driver on those narrow lanes! The 4.5 hrs went so quickly. We had a bit of a problem with our booking which the Mountain Goat team went over and beyond to help sort - thank you Would highly recommend
Beatrix Potter Hiltop house was CLOSED. the very reason for the tour and it was closed. There were many people on the trip that came to Windermere just to see the house. Why would you book a tour and the feature is closed??
Our guide, Marc P., knew a lot about the area and gave helpful tips. He spoke about all the sights in a calm and witty way. We had a fantastic afternoon and learned a great deal about Beatrix Potter and the Lake District. We can definitely recommend it!
We are lifelong Beatrix Potter fans and were so looking forward to this tour. We booked it ages in advance with tickets to get into her house expecting that we would get a "proper" tour but it seems that technology has taken over. I'm sure lots of people are ok with a sat-nav type voice doing all the talking but it really wasn't for us. The driver was nice but we were told on the bus that they are not allowed to drive and talk or answer questions which is a big shame and rather spoiled it for us old fogies who like to natter. Hill Top was amazing and the scenery around the area is so beautiful. Think we will book a traditional tour next time though with a human driver doing the talking.
This Mountain Goat tour was above our expectations visiting additional sites we weren’t expecting. Small bus transport was comfortable and our guide/driver Elliot was excellent and gave lots of information in a friendly manner Highly recommend.
A very lovely tour, and our guide Peter Fox was very knowledgeable about the area, we did get to see some lovely spots throughout the day. The only criticism I have is that because we seen so many places the tour could have started earlier so we could spend more time at some of the attractions such as the beatrix potter museum which we only had 20 minutes to explore and I felt that the tour was a bit rushed because of this.
