Great way to see the area in one day. We stopped at strategic places and got a great feel of the Lakes District. Also we know where we want to go back to. Driver and guide very attentive and informative.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Lakes. Steve was very friendly and told us fascinating stories about the area along with stopping off at spots for photo opportunities. Looking down on Derwentwater lake is something I will remember for some time and I'm sure we will be back for some more Grasmere gingerbread and another trip soon. Thanks English Lakes Tours it was a wonderful day!
Ginnie and Sandra provided a wonderful tour of the Lake District! We saw so many beautiful vistas, lakes, mountains, wildlife, waterfalls, and picturesque towns. They were not only knowledgeable but fun too. We got to see areas we never would have discovered on our own. Also loved the small group experience versus large tour bus. Highly recommend this tour and the company!
My wife and I had a wonderful private tour with Tim as our guide. Tim was extremely knowledgeable about both the geography and the history of the Lake District and took us to places we would have never found on our own. The tour was approximately 6 hours long and it gave us a great overview of the area. I would highly recommend Tim to anyone considering a visit to the Lake District. It was one of the highlights of our trip.
We are demanding clients for a tour guide. We want to know geology, history, culture, archaeology, science of the areas we visit as well as where to go for art and antique shops. Tim was extremely knowledgeable and took us places that only the most experienced locals know about. He was terrific!
During the course of a visit to London, we opted to spend a couple of days in the Lake District. Due to paucity of time and with questionable driving skills we chose to take a conducted tour of the Lakes, than do a self drive. While the latter might be a more measured way of enjoying the wondrous beauty of the area, the conducted tour offers a sampling of all that the area has to offer. Through Viator, I had chosen a small group tour with English Lake Tours. Originally, the booking was for Sunday. When I discovered that the pickup for the tour was a good half an hour’s drive away, a request to the company was promptly attended to and the tour was shifted to Monday so that we could be picked up at Bowness, which is where we were staying. The mode of transport was by minivan. The pick up was punctual and the Van was very clean. We had just another couple with us, so that the group was really small. Our guides for the tour were Jill and Tim, who was also the driver. The Van was equipped with tiny speakers, one for each seat, so that the passengers were not disadvantaged in listening to the information being provided by Tim. The drive through the Lake District is not easy. Commingling with narrow roads are sharp turns and fairly steep ascents and descents. Tim took all of that in a manner that was unobtrusively reassuring. The drive was interspersed with a commentary on the history of the area as well as the geography and topography of the place. All this was not not a dry recitation of facts, but was peppered with humorous anecdotes and pithy one liners. All this made a trip that lasted nearly 7 hours seem much shorter than it really was. The commentary given by Tim was well supplemented by well chosen short comments by Jill. She came into her own element in the Latter half of the tour, in Grasmere, when she took us to visit the grave of William Wordsworth. My wife is a teacher of English and the discussion that followed was extremely erudite and captivating. It is entirely possible that based on this single interaction, we may do a literary tour of the area under her guidance. Another highlight of the tour was the one hour cruise over the Ullswater Lake. The drift down the lake is an encapsulation of all that makes the Lake District a variably picturesque tourist attraction. We loved the entire experience.
Our guide, Tim, was very informative and engaging in conversation. We saw breathtaking locations. We would recommend this tour and our guide, Tim!
This place has recently undergone a facelift. The rooms are very nice and the parking is good. However, the staff really make this place special! As soon as I arrived they were helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend.
Superb trip. Tim, our guide, was brilliant- very friendly and informative and great at sharing his passion for the Lake District. Highly recommend.
All the trip was excellent ,excellent tour guide Nice locations for photos Enough time to enjoy all the trip locations
We spent a wonderful day in this beautiful part of the country with two kind experts and locals. Gillian and Sandra made a great team with lots of interesting history and showed us lovely highlights of the region. We will definitely be returning to check out some of their recommendations!
One tour not to be missed. Great tour guide. Very knowledgeable and went above and beyond answering questions. Very friendly, was like we was on a tour with a friend. View points were breathtaking
Had the best day with Tim on this tour. His company was fantastic only beaten by his knowledge of the area. Excellent way to see a large area of the lakes whilst learning the history and being expertly driven up some questionable roads to some amazing view points. Highly recommended
The whole experience was fabulous, the guide and driver where fantastic very knowledgeable we would do it again.
Tim gave us a fabulous day, calmly and expertly driving on hairy roads to gorgeous spots we would not have found on our own. Tim’s knowledge of both historical and current events and places of interest brought The Lakes alive for us. We had a real mix of weather and were lucky to see this beautiful place in a variety of conditions, all in one day. Note that the parking lot where you meet up does NOT allow for all day parking. You may park all day in another lot very close by, so arrive early enough to allow for a short walk over to the meeting place. I highly recommend this tour!
Brilliant tour we did the winter lakes tour and was amazing. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and patient. Great value for money because we covered so much including less busy touristy locations, Cumbria is stunningly breathtaking !!!
We had such a great time on this small group tour! We learned so much and saw beautiful sites. The van was comfortable and you could hear the tour guide really well. We enjoyed every moment of it.
We just returned from the Ten Lakes Scenic Tour with the amazing Tim and had to write a 5 star review straight away!! WOW! What a PERFECT day we had!!! The weather was perfect (fantastic weather for February!) and we lucked out with an intimate group of just 4 of us on the tour. Tim was extremely knowledgeable and kind, we throughly enjoyed his tour through the beautiful Lake District! We were only here in Keswick for 2 nights and we HIGHLY recommend booking a tour with Tim at English Lakes Tours!! You will not be disappointed!! Thank you Tim, for the memorable day! : )
We booked this tour as we’d never been to the Lake District before so we wanted to see the best it could offer and this tour showed us that. Tim our driver was full of knowledge and knew where all the good photo spots were. Although some passes were closed off due to snow, we still went as far as our van could make it. Just shows that he knows this place and where to go to give you the best tour possible.
The weather was awful but thanks to Tim our driver and very friendly guide, the day was surprisingly very good. Although it was awful weather, we did get out of the very nice little bus between the showers and had a great time. Tim told us so much interesting stuff and encouraged us to forget the weather and just enjoy the scenery (when we could see it) and the forces of nature around us. We got out at Honister Pass and were nearly blown over but couldn't stop laughing. Because of his extensive local knowledge, Tim knew where to go and what was safe for us to do, I wouldn't like to have driven on that day myself so taking a tour with someone attentive and experienced like him, was the best thing we did - apart from jumping in puddles!. Tip: get some good weatherproof clothing because brollies are useless in the wind!
This was a fantastic, informative tour packed with amazing views and good company. We got to see so much. Our tour started at 9.30 and ended at 4. As our accommodation was on route, our l tour guide - Dr Tim (you’ll have to go on a tour to find out why 😀) kindly offered to pick us up and drop us back!! Dr Tim was literally a hive of information and incredibly patient with our questions and numerous photo stops. In fact at points he suggested optimum places for taking pictures. We also had a chance to wonder by ourselves and get lunch in the beautiful little town of Grassmere and buy Grassmere ginger bread. Total value for money and my friend and I were blessed to have Dr Tim to ourselves as January is particularly quiet. I would definitely look to do another tour with English Lakes Tours when back in the area.
My first time here and brought my mum as part of her birthday celebrations. We had shocking weather forecast so I booked this tour last minute as didn’t want to get completely soaked! We were the only 2 as it is currently out of season. Our driver Tim gave us a very personal and attentive experience, despite the bad weather, and he was extremely knowledgeable. I would highly recommend English Lakes Tours no doubt!
We took this tour in Dec 2021 and had such a wonderful experience. Despite the cold, the lack of crowds made it a great getaway with breathtaking views. Tim was a superb guide and was very knowledgeable in the history of the area. He also knew where the great spots were in order for us to get the best photos.
Our family of five spent the day with Tim driving the Lake District countryside. Tim immediately bonded with all of us and became a part of our family for the day. Having lived in the District for over thirty years Tim knew the area and its history. He provided us with a wonderful overview of the District, and provided plenty of ideas for hikes, shopping, eating and drinking in our days ahead. We highly recommend this tour as you cover a great deal of ground in a short period of time. A great way to start your visit to the Lake District.
We did this tour on a whim 1 day prior and heavily recommend it! Our driver was really engaging and the sights themselves were amazing.
Despite tough weather conditions at the start, our guide Tim found very interesting alternates, plied us with great information & anecdotes & was flexible to show us more around Wordsworth in Grasmere. The views of derwentwater, Ullswater, Windermere , bassenthwaite were affected by the weather , though still beautiful. I loved Tim's description of flora& fauna , in short a heartwarming day filled with the natural beauty of this gorgeous place on earth ! Thank you
We have been to Scotland and admired the mountains from afar but I never expected to get so close to mountains like I did in this tour. The scenery is amazing. The guide took us to some beautiful places. So glad we took this tour.
We were really lucky as we siblings are the only ones in the tour. Tim was our tour guide and he took us to several places even though there was limited daylight time coz of winter. He really made it worthwhile for us. I do recommend this tour. Really nice to see all the picturesque landscapes that soothes your mind and soul.
Our guide from English Lake District Tours is knowledgeable and gave us a wonderful tour in the Lake District Park.
We had an excellent tour of the Lake District with Tim from English Lake District Tours. He had an incredible knowledge of local geography, culture and history. The Lake District area is a must to see, especially with Tim's guidance. Tim's communication skills, personality and driving were perfect. He took an extra effort to tailor this tour to our needs. He was always able to find great spots for my husband to take pictures. We wish we could hire him for the entire UK trip. We highly recommend the Winter Scenic Tour of Lake District with Tim! Worth every penny!
My friend and I are both first time visitors to this glorious part of England, and today we had the most amazing day trip with Steve, who drove us round in comfort while telling us some very interesting facts about the local area. You absolutely HAVE to take one of these tours in order to get the very best experience of the stunning scenery and to be able to enjoy the views together. Steve was so patient while the photos were being taken, so many that we were rather late back, but he took this all in his stride and made the trip a particularly memorable one. It is great to hear a guide talk with real passion for the area and knowledge of local history which helped me to plan visits for the following days A heartfelt thankyou Steve for your informative guidance today. I hope we cross paths again during my return trips to the gorgeous Lake District. I will be back and will book other trips with English Lake District Tours because I know your future clients will enjoy their days out just as much as we have today. Kindest regards to you and the team from Diane and Mary.
I booked this trip as part of a long weekend visit to Windermere to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday. The Lake District has been somewhere we've both loved since way back before marriage and children and when we arrive, we just feel at peace with the world and ourselves. This trip took us on a whole day of memories and new places. Tim, our escort for the day, was lovely. He looked after us, explained everything we asked, took us to places we would never have driven out to under our own steam on this visit, Kirkstone Pass, the stone circle, the waterfalls, the slate mining areas, the Surprise View where you drive over a super-slim bridge (breath in!) and told us about the corpse roads. A thoroughly enjoyable day. Well worth the price of the tour and remember, you could do it on your own, but the driver would never enjoy the views. Tim allowed us to relax and soak it all in while telling us everything we needed to know about what we were seeing. Thankyou Tim. We had a FAB day.
I absoultey loved this tour, The views were amazing and the tour guide, We do have beautful country and I'm glad I got see it all. Tim was a fanstatic at his job and he had some good story too
Our driver, Tim, arrived on time and was very professional and helpful at all times throughout the day. His driving was fantastic, and he provided interesting commentary on the different points throughout the tour. I went on this tour in late February, and, since the weather was good, Tim was also able to fit in a trip to Aria Force, which was a wonderful surprise and a beautiful “bonus” stop. The day included many photo stops and time to wander around and explore many of the places on the itinerary.
Winter Scenic Tour organised by English Lake District Tour was excellent. It was professional and well planned. They gave good commentary on the history of the place. I highly recommend this tour.
The trip was absolutely magnificent, 7 hours of driving through some fantastic view spots. Tim is a splendid guide and told us a lot about the history of the region and people who made it famous.Definitely wanna come back in this region.Thank you so much!
Hands down, this was the very best, most informative tour company I've ever been on a tour with!! I was able to take two of their tours (Winter Scenic Tour + Brontes/Haworth Tour), and I wish I could take every single tour they give! I'm planning another trip to England for next year just to go back to the Lake District and take these tours with English Lake District Tours-- seriously. I told Tim and Jill (my guides) that they've officially ruined all other tours for me because these two tours were SO INCREDIBLE. I'm a professional historic presenter, and the amount of context and knowledge they gave on both of these tours blew my mind. This company's attention to detail, passion, and generosity made these tours my favorite part of my entire trip to England!!! If you want a THOROUGH tour of the absolute best of the Lake District and The Brontes (among all their other tours I want to take), BOOK THESE! Unlike other tours that give you a brief overview then drop you off at a site/museum, English Lake District Tours give you complete context, taking you to additional sites that tie the entire experience together. I came into the Brontes tour knowing very little, and left the day with the coolest information to reread their books with! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jill and Tim!! The memories you gave me will last my lifetime, and beware that I'm already planning to come back next year! :) Cannot wait!
