Windermere Hillthwaite Hotel

This is one hotel that I would feel comfortable recommending to anyone. We've been going there, on and off since 2004. The quality is top notch, as is the hospitality. The staff are lovely and the food magnificent. There are different layers of accommodation from grand to basic but all are beautifully appointed and well maintained. Over the years we've tried different ones but always ended up where we feel happiest, fabulous 👌

Very disappointing experience. The hotel itself is beautiful and the location is great, which is why we expected much better service and facilities. Unfortunately, the receptionist was extremely unhelpful. We arrived at the hotel a little late and wanted to book dinner at the hotel restaurant, but we were simply told that it was fully booked. There was no effort to help us, explain the situation properly, or offer any alternative. What was even more frustrating was seeing plenty of empty tables in the restaurant while we, as hotel guests, couldn’t even have dinner there. The room facilities were also disappointing. The hot water was not working properly, and the water pressure in the shower was extremely weak. For a hotel of this standard, these are basic facilities that should work properly. It’s a real shame because the hotel itself has a beautiful property and a great location. However, good surroundings cannot make up for poor service and basic facilities that don’t function properly. The receptionist’s lack of helpfulness made the experience even more frustrating. Overall, very disappointing and definitely not the level of service we expected from a hotel like this.

We had a wonderful stay at Hillthwaite Hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. The hotel itself is beautiful, with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. The breakfast and food were excellent, with great quality and plenty of choice. The only small point is that the standard rooms don’t have a view, but this didn’t take away from our overall experience. Everything else was excellent, and we truly enjoyed our stay. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would be happy to stay here again

Lovely location, up on the hillside, a lovely hotel. We had the premium room with a balcony and the beautiful springtime view over the rooftops and gardens in the direction of lake Windermere. The room was very clean with the usual tea, coffee, popcorn and a small bottle of bubbly in the fridge 🥂. Breakfast was three course and the coffee was perfect. Staff were helpfull and friendly. Swimming pool is small and quite shallow, sauna was nice and hot.
