In the small village of Great Clifton, on the west coast of the Cumbrian Lake District, this charming inn was converted from a 17th-century farmstead and offers comfortable, characteristic accommodations in rooms with attached bathroom with tea and coffee-making facilities, including a complementary full Cumbrian grill breakfast. Terrible service most staff are very rude. We went on a family holiday after a long day with the kids we come back to relax they would not allow us to sit outside in the smoking area on the benches and they do not put out the umbrellas reason being they dont want people sitting outside. They close the bar at 11 and the sign clearly states 12. The room was very very very hot you cannot sleep. We always received cold breakfast claiming we are a large group. Very dull Inn where staff want you to come and leave without being noticed. If you are a family wanting to enjoy a relaxing stay dont go to that place.

Stayed here for a weekend on a longer drive from Northampton up to Cumbria. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful without being pushy. Food was excellent — the mixed grill is generous and well cooked, and the rest of the menu holds up the same way. Big portions, good quality, no complaints. The one downside isn't the remoteness itself. It's that there's nothing to do around the inn — no shops, no walks, nothing within reach on foot. You have to drive to Workington or further into the Lake District for anything. The area could use some investment. 5 stars for the room, food, and service. 4 stars for location.

Booked a table for two over the phone, employee who answered was friendly and courteous. Parking was reasonable, spaces could be bigger but you can't escape physics and the owners can only work with the land they have. Were advised where to sit by a nice gent at the bar and given menus. My brother and I both ordered the well regarded mixed grill and an ice cream later on. Food took roughly 20ish minutes from order to table. As the mixed grill portion is fairly substantial we both asked if we could have our leftovers boxed up to take home, which as a nice surprise we weren't charged for. Server forgot the remainder of our sweet potato fries but that's a only a small gripe. Both of us couldn't knock the quality of the food, service, location, or price. I was recommended this place by locals and I can see why. Really happy with my visit here and in turn would highly recommend it myself. Well done to everyone involved!
