My husband and I stayed for one night on our road trip through the Lakes. The pub is a gem...lovely clean spacious rooms, great choice of food for an evening meal and a hearty, freshly cooked breakfast. An added bonus of a proper pot of tea that pours without spillage. Great views as well.

We had a lovely 3 night stay at the Hare & Hounds while up in the Lakes for a wedding. We stayed in Cottam, which had a lovely colour palette and had been finished very nicely with attention to detail. Despite its proximity to the main road it was quiet. We followed one of their suggested walks from the helpful information pack one morning which was enjoyable and helped us work off the generous and tasty breakfast! Staff are very nice and I stupidly left some belongings there which they posted back to me- very grateful. We ate in the restaurant and the food was really good too. We would return if ever we are back in the area.
We’ve been for dinner at the Hare and Hounds a couple of times now and every time it’s been exceptional. The food is delicious, the staff are super friendly and it’s such a lovely cosy pub. Would highly recommend!
Had a lovely roast here. The staff were very friendly and accommodated us well. The food was just delicious and the local leg of lamb was cooked perfectly. The Yorkshire puddings were huge, fluffy, and delicious, and the gravy was rich and flavourful.
We stayed at Hare and Hounds for three nights while visiting friends nearby. Everything was perfect. Rooms were clean and cosy (with brownies instead of biscuits and real milk in a fridge). The atmosphere was friendly and cheerful and helpful. We had dinner there twice - interesting menu with generous helpings and lots of choice. Breakfasts were very good - scrambled eggs come as great big delicious piles. GF granola without having to ask. Fresh fruit salad that really is fresh with gollops of creamy yogurt. Walks nearby are not too taxing and the scenery is drinkable - snow tops in the distance, lush greenness below. Popular with locals as well as visitors I would guess. Small but careful range of single malts. They even have their 'own brand' of champagne. Loved it.
