First visit to The Plough. We had a meal on a Sunday afternoon. Booked early as google said it gets busy after 1.30. The food was really nice a good selection of drinks including no alcoholic options for the driver. A meal for two with bread and oil, main, drinks and dessert cost £100. This includes the service, which you are told is included when you get the bill.

We were visiting family in Kirkby Lonsdale and booked last minute, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to have our own suite, which included a separate bedroom, living room and a large bathroom. The suite was immaculate and had everything we needed for our stay. It was also great to see that a travel cot was available. Breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice, including fresh pastries that were still warm. The staff were all very welcoming. It sat between Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale and only a few minutes drive from the motorway. Thank you for a nice stay 😊
Both the stars are for Amelia who provided us with the best service she could. Unfortunately we were unable to have most things on the menu for to a serious garlic allergy. I don't feel that much was done to accommodate. Surely any good chef could have made a simple sauce without garlic for us so that the food wouldn't have been so bland. "The Gaffer" his words "try and get the head chef to cook without garlic" So when we did finally get a meal that didn't contain garlic The triple cooked chips actually were more uncooked, my steak was tough. All in all it wasn't good. One saving grace was the tempura prawn starter. Althogh the batter was more regular batter. They were very tasty. Two meals not good meals and two drinks £116 without the 12.5%gratuity. I would have honestly disputed the price and agreed to pay only for drinks and starters if it hadn't been for the fact I was staying in the car park. My husband didn't feel he should drive after a drink. Very disappointed as on first impressions it looked like a nice restaurant.
Visited on Tuesday for a meal. Staff were really lovely, nice warm welcome and service was good too. The food was superb. I had the Cumberland sausage and am so glad I did. It was delicious (5 stars for the gravy too!) Other half had steak which was cooked to perfection. Good choice of wines and also non alcoholic drinks. Wouldn’t hesitate to return.
The standard of the accommodation and food at the Plough is exceptional. Rooms are of a very high standard. Ours was very large with a huge bathroom with roll top bath and walk in shower and extra large bed.. The food in the restaurant was amazing, and the Cote de Boeuf was was delicious. All the taff were extremely friendly and helpful. There is a bar area with a log burning stove which is very cosy. The large dining room also has a wood burner, although we ate in the bar area. Breakfast was excellent with a choice of hot items as well as fruit, cereals, yoghurt and juices. The hotel is only a short distance from junction 36 of the M6, and is only about a 30 minute drive from Windemere and the other lakes. Will definitely stay again.
