Disappointing Birthday Stay – Wouldn’t Return We booked a night away for my birthday, hoping for a relaxing and enjoyable experience, but unfortunately, several aspects of our stay fell short of expectations. We ate at the hotel’s Mizumi restaurant, where the food was nice, but the service from some of the staff was disappointing. They came across as rude and abrupt. When we asked if we could take our leftovers back to our room, we were told, “No raw food was allowed out of the restaurant.” We had chicken sushi, so when I pointed out that there was nothing raw in what we wanted to take away, I was completely ignored, and the lady rolled her eyes. This was unnecessary and left a bad impression, especially when we were simply asking a reasonable question. The following morning, we visited the spa, only to be told that the coffee machine hadn’t warmed up yet. The spa had already been open for 40 minutes, so this was disappointing. The jacuzzi was essentially just a bath, with no working jets, and the cold-water plunge pool was out of use. These facilities were part of the experience we were looking forward to, so it was frustrating that they weren’t functioning properly. To make matters worse, when checking out, we were told there was a £43 charge for drinks we hadn’t ordered. We explained that we hadn’t been in the bar at 10 pm, as we were already back in our room using the hot tub. We were told that the drinks had been ordered at the bar, despite us disputing the charge. Having to question an unexpected bill at the end of our stay was not the way we wanted to finish our birthday night away. Overall, although the food at Mizumi was nice, the poor customer service, disappointing spa facilities and disputed £43 drinks charge really let the experience down. A birthday stay should feel special, relaxing and enjoyable, but unfortunately, ours was anything but. Based on our experience, we wouldn’t return and would struggle to recommend this hotel to others.

Just got back from an amazing stay at Lakes hotel and spa. Lady on the front desk was very polite and check in was a breeze. She checked us in with a glass of prosseco and then informed us that we had been upgraded to a hot tub room for free! Great start! We then met Patrick (Concierge) who showed us around the hotel and guided us to our stunning room. We didnt have dinner in the hotel so cant comment on the food but I did have a peak in the 'Mazumi' restaraunt and it looked stunning! We did have a drink on the balcony terrace which was nice. Breakfast the next morning was very good. Plentiful and lots of choice. TIP: Get to breakfast at 8am for the place to yourself.. It fills up very quickly and was full by the time we left at 8.30. All in all, a great stay with first class service. Well worth the money.
we had such an amazing stay at the lakes hotel and spa. honestly could not recommend this place enough!! the staff were so friendly and helpful, rooms were absolutely gorgeous and spacious with amazing views. my partner took me here for a surprise birthday getaway & it was perfect. we will definitely be coming back!! the spa was so relaxing and was never overcrowded. the food at the restaurant (mizumi) attached to the hotel was amazing and so delicious. highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a special weekend getaway!
We had a lovely stay at the Lakes Hotel & Spa and really enjoyed our time here. The location is fantastic, just a short walk into Bowness, and breakfast was delicious. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. We booked a hot tub room, which was a lovely treat. The only slight disappointment was that the balcony windows were quite dirty, which affected the view a little. We were told they were due to be cleaned soon, so hopefully future guests will benefit from that. We also ordered room service, while it was convenient, the meals weren’t quite what we expected for the price, with the steak being overdone and the burger seemed processed, not restaurant quality. The spa was relaxing, and we liked being able to enjoy a glass of fizz in the spa area. It is on the smaller side but it was still a lovely place to unwind. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend the hotel. While it didn’t quite feel like some of the other 5-star hotels we’ve visited recently, we had a great experience hence the 4 stars ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
We had an absolutely amazing stay at the Lakes Hotel & Spa and can’t recommend it highly enough! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The complimentary Prosecco on arrival was such a lovely touch and made us feel welcome straight away. The spa facilities were fantastic clean, relaxing, and the perfect place to unwind. What really made our stay exceptional, though, was the staff. Every single member of the team was friendly, welcoming, and incredibly helpful throughout our visit. A special mention goes to the gentleman who showed us to our room. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch his name, but he was so knowledgeable about the hotel, took the time to explain everything, and his genuine enthusiasm made us want to come back for an even longer stay next time. The outstanding service truly made all the difference. We left feeling relaxed, well looked after, and already planning our return.
