The Original Otley Ghost Tour

Me and my partner wanted to meet in the middle for a little ‘Ween-y evening and Spindleshanks McScrew didn’t let us down! She was friendly from the first, made sure to get everyone involved and was so considerate in what I’d deem ‘adverse conditions’ (strong wind, rain, old cars racing about, umbrella troubles) while maintaining the utmost professionalism. The tour took us in a satisfying circle round the centre of Otley and covered lots of interesting local history. Our ghoulish guide was obviously well-versed in the place and kept us on our toes with spooky stories and jokes throughout the full hour! It was definitely worth every penny, thank you for making our first Halloween together something to remember! :) P.S. We especially loved the little candles for lights!

Thank you Spindleshanks McScrew for the laughs! We had a great time and learnt so much we never knew about Otley. You really knew you're stuff and we were all very impressed (and shocked at some of the stuff you told us!) would recommend to anyone looking for something different to do.

Very punny and interesting! Otley has much more history funny/grisly than I expected and you could tell the guide had a real passion for local history. Happy to answer questions, we had a great time. Beautiful town. We even bumped into a local one of the stories had come from which was cool!

What a fun interesting evening 8n Otley for the Ghost walk! Daisy who was out guide was full of interesting info and fun facts. We saw lots of places, learning their history as well as some spooky tales Id definately recommend this for a fun evening.

What a fantastic experience. My partner and I booked on a whim. The initial contact was easy through a Google search, then some follow up correspondence to clarify meeting point in Otley, then we were good to go! The cost was reasonable (£35ish for the both of us) for the length of the visit, which felt a little longer than an hour. I think this felt like it was due to the small group of 4 (5 including our guide) getting on so well, there was another couple visiting Otley. Wandering around the town, visiting landmarks that we have walked passed for years finally understanding the market town a little better, with our guide being funny and knowledgeable making the experience really fun. She told the various ghost stories for the different locations, as well as some historical facts as an extra. Very relaxed from the get go, our guide staying in character, playing the part of a spooky ghost guide very well, telling terribly-terrible jokes/puns and some genuinely amusing stories. Overall, I would defiantly recommend this tour, it is not too long as a tour, informative and really fun to be part of. Thank you, Otley Ghost Tour!

We loved this! Really charming, witty, informative tour of the nuts and bolts of Otley's spooky past. I live in Otley, and learned plenty new. A thoroughly enjoyable hour, I highly recommend. My son (9) loved it too, it's inspired him to wrote a spooky story!

What a delight! We thoroughly enjoyed our ghost walk and learned a lot about Otley (even though we have lived there for years!). The vibe was fun rather than fear and this worked well for us - a marvellous way to start an evening out in Otley!

A really lovely way to spend a chilly Twixmas evening. With family visiting from NZ we found this a great way to show them more of Otley, and learnt some new bits of ghoulish history ourselves too. All in all a very enjoyable & interesting evening, highly recommended 🥰

What a great way to spend an haunting hour walking around the streets of Otley and finding out about the local ghosts and hauntings. Daisy was very entertaining with comical twists added and great theatrics. Would definitely recommend!

Solo or with friends, this tour is awesome! Atmospheric, engaging and so much fun lore and history about the town! Our tour guide, Daisy (or Spindleshanks👻) did a wonderful job of connecting the group, keeping us engaged and immersed in the spooky atmosphere! Many interesting and creepy stories and beautiful scenery, as well as plenty of jokes and fun! I would highly recommend attending any of the Yorkshire ghost walks offered by this company!!🤍 I attended the Leeds one as well and it was so much fun! Do yourselves a favor and book a ghostly walk with them!🤗

In Otley. Prepare yourselves for a mega spooky, super sinister and truly eye opening (you'll know what I mean after the tour) experience

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We booked the 1-Hour group Otley Ghost Tour thinking it might be a bit too spooky for my 7-year-old… turns out the only scary part was how much we had a good crack. Our guide was brilliant – part historian, part good banter , and part ghost whisperer (though the ghosts mostly kept their distance). She somehow managed to keep the adults entertained with eerie tales while making sure our daughter didn’t have nightmares. The tour was perfectly paced, full of fun facts about Otley’s cobbled streets and a few spine-tingling stories that made us all walk just a little closer together. My daughter is now convinced she saw a ghostly cat – or maybe it was just a passing shadow… either way, it made her night! Highly recommend for families – spooky enough for grown-ups, but child-friendly with no jump-scares or gory bits. Plus, it’s a great excuse to explore the town at night. Would absolutely do it again – next time we’ll bring extra beers for the ghosts. 👻🍪

A brilliantly spooky evening in Otley We had a fantastic time on the ghost tour with Spindleshanks, whose storytelling about dead presences was captivating. Just as impressive was the way she handled our cheeky small family members, who definitely made their presence well known! As a resident of Otley for nearly 20 years I found this a really great way to explore the streets that are so familiar to me . The tales and anecdotes that we were told were brilliant. I would thoroughly recommend this tour and excellent value .

What an unforgettable evening we had on the Otley Ghost Tour this past Saturday! From the moment we met our guide by the market place Jubilee Clock, the tour set a perfect, spooky tone that captivated us entirely. Our guide - Spindleshanks McScrew - charismatic, knowledgeable, and effortlessly engaging - wove together eerie local legends, chilling ghost stories, and fascinating snippets of Otley’s haunted past. Her dramatic flair and obvious passion sparked laughter, gasps, and suspense around every corner. Jonathan the ghost kept us good company too. The route was thoughtfully curated. We ventured through winding alleys and paused outside centuries-old buildings rich in spectral lore. The atmosphere was enhanced by just the right amount of theatricality - not so over-the-top that it felt gimmicky, but enough to whisk us into the spirit of ghost-hunting. The pace was excellent: never rushed, giving us time to absorb each story, yet never lagging. Logistics were seamless too - easy meet-up, comfortable group size, and great communication beforehand. In short, this tour struck the perfect balance between historical insight and theatrical ghost-hunting thrills. Whether you’re a skeptic, a history buff, or simply in search of spooky fun, this tour delivers - and then some. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Five stars all the way!

We had a fantastic time walking round old Otley with Spindleshanks; who not only filled us in on some of the ancient history of the town but was very witty with it, making us laugh all the way round. Well worth a trip to Otley and if you're at a loose end afterwards I have it on good authority there are twenty four pubs you can visit.

As far as ghost tours go this has got to be the best I’ve ever been on. My boyfriend nearly wet himself! Would highly recommend, brilliant host!

Daisy gave an interesting engaging tour which took us down unseen areas and sites around Otley. Didn't realise the history and events which had occurred in this part of Yorkshire and Daisy was great getting this information over despite the drizzly conditions.

The ghost was very informative, atmospheric, well researched and funny. The guide was very personable, knowledgeable and was a great narrator of all things ghoulish in otley. The ghost walk really lifted our spirits 👻😂 (see what we did there?!)

A hauntingly wonderful tour around Otley. Who knew there were so many ghosts in this fabulous market town. Definitely recommended

We went on the tour in a dark Saturday night with the fireworks lighting up the sky Our guide led us through the streets with her lantern telling us stories and with a superb Wordsworth rendition! We learnt loads about the local history, hauntings and goings on. Great evening highly recommended!

Me and my mother went on this tour on Halloween night 2024. It was absolutely fantastic, we really enjoyed it! It was brilliantly informative, spooky and Spindleshanks McSrew was a superb, entertaining and funny host. It was quite honestly the best halloween evening I’ve had in years. I learnt some fascinating, if rather dark aspects of the towns history. All delivered in a charming and delightfully dark way. Who could know that such a picturesque town could have such sordid secrets? Thanks for the wonderful time and we hope to come on this tour again and I recommend anyone reading this to go on the tour!

A fascinating and very fun tour of Otley's haunts and history. The host was a wonderful storyteller and kept us all enthralled throughout. A great way to spend an hour while in Otley.

Really interesting and humorous tour. Even though I’ve lived in Otley for over 20 years I learnt some new things about the history of our town. Would recommend for anyone who is visiting or lives in our town.

Though regular visitors to Otley, we didn't really know much about its history. All that changed when we met Spindleshanks McScrew aka Daisy from Otley Ghost Tours. For just over an hour, Ms McScrew shared snippets of Otley's colourful past and characters. The tour took us along cobbled lanes and dark alleys, behind historic buildings, down to the river and back. There was never a dull moment as we were regaled with the gory, the humorous and the deliciously spooky. Loved this tour from start to finish and would thoroughly recommend.

Charming, funny and well delivered. The Otley Ghost Tour is a wonderful experience. A great evening that was enjoyed by even some very young members of our tour, well worth your time.

We booked a private ghost tour for a group of 30 on one of the coldest nights this year. Our guide was extremely personable, mixing tales of ghosts and evil deeds with touches of humour. We learnt a lot and were thoroughly entertained. As with all the best ghost tours, there are no hidden figures waiting to jump out, but simple story telling at its best. Highly recommended.
