Dean provided an absolutely wonderful tour. His enthusiasm for the Capitol and his breadth of knowledge set the tone; his personal warmth, patience with questions and willingness to understand and respond in the depth that makes a full-day tour a special treat. The vehicle was very comfortable, the stops were well-planned and the lunch was a special treat. Details about daily life, and career opportunities were special and help. Would certainly take the tour again!

Itinerary
We have a brief walk around the Parliament grounds where your guide will point out the iconic ‘Beehive’, Houses of Parliament and the Parliamentary Library building.
Built between 1865 and 1866 Old St Pauls Cathedral is one of the best examples of Gothic Revival architecture in the world. The Cathedral is particularly poignant for American visitors. A large contingent of the American Marine Corp were based in and around Wellington in 1942 and many Marines would attend Sunday services. The American Marine Corp flag and the American national flag of that time with 48 stars hang proudly inside the Cathedral. Here we have a guided tour with a Heritage NZ staff member who will provide an extensive overview of the history of the Cathedral.
Take a ride on Wellington's long standing, iconic tourist attraction - the Wellington Cable Car. Your guide will take you to the entry point and then meet you up at your final destination - Kelburn.
We take a walk through the magnificent Lady Norwood Rose Garden located in the Wellington Botanical Gardens. When the roses are not in bloom a short walk in the gardens can be taken.
Put your I in the iconic Well_ington sign, stroll along the harbourside for great city and harbour scenic photo opportunities and view the statue of Kupe which shows the legendary Polynesian explorer with his wife, Hine Te Apārangi, and his tohunga (priest), Pekahourangi.
Take a scenic drive along Oriental Bay winding up the narrow roads of Wellington to Wellington's most popular lookout point. Here we take in majestic views over the city and harbour.
Immerse yourself in the magical world of movie making and special effects at the Weta Cave. Please note: the visit to the Weta Cave does not include the behind the scenes tour of the Weta Workshop.
View the majestic memorial and tomb of the resting place of former Prime Minister William Massey and his wife Christina.
Lunch and a choice of beverage at this iconic Eastern Bays Cafe.
We visit several memorials at Seatoun and Breaker Bay to 51 people who tragically lost their lives on 10 April 1968 from the sinking of the Inter Island Ferry Wahine. In fact a further 2 people were to die after the tragedy as a result of injuries sustained on that fateful day.
We visit the Mustafa Kemal Atatürk memorial, the first President of the Republic of Turkey above Breaker Bay. The memorial looks out over Cook Strait and the site was chosen for its remarkable likeness to the landscape of the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. The memorial is particularly poignant for Australian, New Zealand and Turkish visitors who commemorate the ANZAC Gallipoli campaign during World War 1.
View Wellington's first wind turbine and take in another majestic view of the city and harbour.
Visit the Tomb for the Unknown Solider and pay our respects to all New Zealand service men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Finish your full day tour of Wellington sampling award winning Gelato at the Zelati Dessert Cafe, a 2nd generation, iconic family-owned business.

Tom was amazing, really knew the area, professional yet friendly and adaptable to our needs. Thouroughly enjoyed the day and Tom's company.
This tour was an incredible journey trough Middle Earth. Our guide Dean was really nice during the day and gave so much details and anecdotes. Little Finn will remember this awsome member of our felleowship of the day. One of the best days of our trip in New Zeland!
We all enjoyed our day with Tom very much. He had it all planned out and even accommodated our request to visit the WETA workshop. Never felt rushed. Felt we made great use of our time in port. Thanks Tom for a super day.
Had a fantastic day exploring with Tom! The tour was incredibly enjoyable, well-paced, and full of interesting stories and local knowledge. Tom made everything feel easy and fun, and it was clear how much he cares about giving a great experience. I really loved it and would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Wellington!
A fantastic way to spend the day in Wellington! We learned so much, saw so much and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our guide, Tom Collier, was quite knowledgeable and interspersed anecdotes that kept things light and lively. We traversed the city and by the end of the tour felt like we had really seen Wellington.
Wonderful LOTR tour around Wellington! My son and I had a great time with Dave. He took us to all the filming locations and more! He also taught us about New Zealand’s rich history and culture. A great lunch was included along with all the pics in a drop box at the end of the tour. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day!
Fantastic day out in wellington. Thank you to Dean for showing us around and providing great insights.
Great tour. Great guy. He did a wonderful job of accommodating our wishes and needs. Would have to give him a 10.
Our guide Dave met us promptly at the agreed time and it was the beginning of an awesome day together. He listened to what we wanted to see, and asked what we had seen already, and then took us on an awesome tour of Wellington and surrounding areas. We really appreciated getting to see outside of the Central Business District and the fact that he took pictures that he promptly sent to us after the tour. Dave has a wealth of local knowledge and was super easy to spend time with. It felt more like a friend showing you his city and a paid tour. Dave also remembered that we needed to buy hats to protect ourselves from the strong sun and neatly fit in a stop at a local store (instead of an overpriced tourist shop) to buy some hats! This tour was the highlight of our visit to Wellington! Thank you Dave for being sucha great guide.
Tom was amazing! We learned a lot of history, seen a lot of sights, and eat some yummy food. We will definitely recommend this tour and guide.
We booked this private tour for when we docked in Wellington for the day. I found Tom and Dean excellent, personable and informative. In terms of assistance they helped us with a particular issue and they went above snd beyond. I recommend them as tour guides and it supports a great small business.
This tour was just amazing We were taken to so many beautiful places. Dean took so many photos we felt like celebrities for the day. I would do it again in a heartbeat
Wonderful tour of local breweries in Wellington! We had a fun time with Dean seeing the city and checking out how they brew local beers. Dean picked us up from out hotel and gave us a lot of awesome facts about New Zealand. He took us around showing us cool things about Wellington as we were guided from breweries to bars. He even took us to some cool Lord of the Rings film sites we couldn't see on other tours! I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to have a fun time in Wellington.
Tom of Kaewa Tours, Wellington is not only knowledgeable but also extremely witty and helpful. I had to drop my car at the airport and he went out of his way to help me at every step. His choice of restaurant, Scorh-O-Rama was excellent. With your permission, he takes your pictures on his own phone, puts them together and shares them with you at the end of the tour. He explains every attraction in detail and later compiles the list of places and a write-up on each of them that we went to and shares them over an email. Most importantly, his emphasis on safety is inspiring - I saw him refusing prospective business to avoid compromising on it. Tom is an outstanding guide and a thorough gentleman. Thank you Tom
Tom is a phenomenal tour guide! Incredibly knowledgeable about the area and he went well above and beyond in customizing his standard half-day Wellington tour to suit our curiosities (and even extended it more toward a full-day experience once we really got to being curious about things...). And beyond all that he's terrific company with a good sense of humor, no shortage of local color stories, and great pride in showing off his home. We truly cannot recommend this experience highly enough.
My husband and I were traveling with another couple (friends) and we had some doubts about signing up for a tour which included a couple of stops we were not interested in, but Tom Collier was immediately agreeable to adjusting the planned schedule to suit our preferences. Tom was knowledgeable about every site we visited, took good photos along the way, and was great fun to be with. We like to find our own way around cities to see the sights, but this tour allowed us to see sights that are less accessible without a car, such as Evans Bay and the suburbs of Seatoun and Brooklyn. A sidenote: one of our group left his jacket in Tom's car and Tom was most gracious about returning the jacket to our hotel. We all were thrilled that the day was full of interesting sites and incredible views, and that our guide, Tom Collier, was a delightful guide/companion.
I always try to find companies who are happy to take on solo travellers. It’s not my fault that I’m travelling alone any more so I welcome being taken on board, especially when I’m happy to pay the premium that goes with it. Tom an Kaewa Tours we’re happy to do this. He contacted me almost straight away after making my booking and I appreciated that greatly. Then, when two days out, he hit a snag but he contacted me immediately to ask whether my plans were flexible enough to change. When I replied that it was not possible, he just said he would find some way to honour my original booking, no sweat. What more could anyone ask? A man who keeps his promise has my instant respect. He organised another guide, Simon. This was a master stroke … A big rugby and cricket fan and we were best mates right away. Coincidental, yes, but, hey, it works … that beside though, he knew his home city like the back of his hand. Simon was a brilliant guide. He was friendly and knowledgeable, a man of good humour and nothing was a problem. I saw the city with the help of a Wellingtonian born and bred. Every sight was interesting and informatively presented, lunch was included at a lovely seaside eatery and the time just flew by as he guided me round this beautiful place, making my first day ever in it completely memorable. If you’re looking for a personalised tour of Wellington then look no further than Kaewa Tours. They deserve to succeed on this quite magnificent day that I was able to enjoy.
We had a lovely day with Tom. He was a wealth of information about Wellington and you could tell he truly loves his home city. We were a party of 4 with some having mobility issues and he took every step possible to make the day perfect for all of us.
Very good option while in Wellington NZ We did the tour with Bob and he was very helpful, the weather was bad but Bob made an effort to deliver the best.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our day out with Tom. He was knowledgeable, passionate and full of great information. His tour around and in Wellington was fabulous and his pleasant and easy going demeanor made our time with him much more special. He made us feel like we had been friends for years! We highly recommend Tom and his team!
Absolutely fantastic tour with Tom! We had a full day off the cruise ship, explored all of Wellington with sites we never thought we would see. Tom is knowledgeable and personable, navigating the streets we could not hope to drive ourselves on! Had a fabulous time, private tour for two couples. Highly recommended.
Excellent tour. Very informative and friendly and engaging tour guide. I would recommend it to anyone. Good transport.
Kaewa Tours exceeded all expectations and was one of the best tours we’ve ever experienced around the world. Tom & Jill reached out soon after our booking with a warm email greeting and offer to zoom with us to personalize our trip. We appreciated their genuine authenticity, kindness and professionalism. Tom made some great suggestions for our drive from Christchurch to Picton. They met us at the Wellington ferry and escorted us to drop off our rental car and take us to our hotel. The following morning Tom shared his love and knowledge in a full-day of fun, fantastic sights, good food, conversation & thoroughly experiencing Wellington. Going above and beyond, Tom took us to Te Papa and checked us in for our flight home. Tom genuinely cared about our enjoyment and experience. It is exceedingly rare to achieve the quality of relationship as quickly as we did, and we parted as friends. We highly recommend Kaewa Tours.
I cannot say enough good things about this tour in Wellington. Tom greeted us at the port Terminal just as we came off the gangway and was ready for the day. We had 10 stops throughout the day and tickets were purchased, pace of the day was perfect and Tom was the most gracious host. He knew all about the city, told us stories of his tours and even meeting the Prime Minister. We had a lovely lunch at the wonderful cafe beachside. The afternoon was perfect and the views he showed us were spectacular. Throughout the day, he took many photos of us, my aunt/uncle toured with us and then brought us back to the ship with plenty of time. He presented us with a gift and just a few days later, sent us a link with all of our photos attached. This tour was one of the best we have ever had and I would highly recommend using Tom. You will feel as if you have really experienced Wellington!
This tour was outstanding. Our guide, Tom, was patient, kind, funny and knowledgable. We fell in love with the city largely due to our experience with Kaewa Tours. We saw everything we could ever want to see in Wellington, and it was such a pleasure to learn from Tom through his anecdotes and expertise. Could not recommend more highly.
Wellington was a great city to visit. Although the weather was not very favorable that day, but our tour guide Tom from Kaewa Tours made it very special. He was very accommodating, gracious, friendly and informative. We had a bunch of awesome pictures which he took by himself and compiled for us. He accommodated our request to change the itinerary for that day due to heavy rains, and he made it possible and made sure that we enjoyed. If you happen to visit Wellington, I strongly recommend Kaewa Tours to handle your tour and prepare the itinerary for you. We viewed Te Papa and the QT Hotel and marvelled how the QT Hotel was moved on rails to make way for Te Papa to be built. Waterfront walk where we put ourselves for "I" in the WELL_NGTON sign, viewed the city from virtual sculpture – now you have Halos! Lambton Quay: On the left-hand side of the Quay was the original shoreline in January 1855. An 8.2 earthquake resulted in the land being uplifted. Parliament Buildings and Grounds: We viewed the iconic ‘Beehive’, Houses of Parliament and the Parliamentary Library building. Old St Pauls where Paddy took us on a guided tour through Wellington’s first Anglican Cathedral which was built in 1866. Here the American and Marine Corp flags have proudly hung since World War 2. We drove past the official Prime Ministers residence on Tinakori Road, Thorndon – Premier House. We drove down Bolton Street where the motorway went through the original settlers cemetery - Bolton Cemetery requiring the relocation of over 3,000 graves. We attempted to visit Space Place adjacent to the Cable Car but unfortunately it was closed for maintenance. We visited national museum, Te Papa.
The entire day of touring with our guide Tom was so delightful. Tom is so knowledgeable about New Zealand and the entire Wellington area. There wasn't one question we asked that he didn't have an answer for. And the best part was that he took all the photos our group ever needed so I could relax and just soak up all the fantastic scenery and energy. And the other best thing that I have never had a tour guide do was send a summary of the entire day’s activities so i had it for my memory book. Absolutely THE BEST guide ever. And the lunch at Scorch Bay-Scorch ORama was the best. And an incredible view of the bay.
Tom was an excellent guide. We covered the city with photo opportunities at all of the viewpoints. He also took pictures from some special places. It was a great day.
We had an unforgettable day with Andrew / most likely the best way to visit Wellington surroundings. We used his deep knowledge to discover hidden spots and used his full flexibility to tailor the day with our wishes. Great experience. Many thanks. Philippe and Nathalie.
The tour was great! I had a lot of fun seeing Wellington, visiting the great sights, and Tom was fantastic providing details and history along the way. Recommended!
Tom provided a wonderful day out with my family. He went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and enjoyed our experience. We were blessed with the miracle Wellington without too much wind. All in all a wonderful day tour and highly recommended
Very complete tour of the Wellington area. The tour offers a very personal experience for a couple who want to spend a full day touring the Wellington area.
Driving around the town, Meant to book with group, did not realize, the trip was too expensive had a good lunch at Indian restaurant
For a comprehensive overview of Wellington, with private insights from an informed guide, this is the place. Bryce made sure we did the must-sees like the waterfront, Parliament and a ride on the cable car, but made sure we had breathtaking views of the City from all sides which gave a great orientation not just to the history, but to the geography of Wellington.
Tom was a delight to be with and we had a wonderful time seeing the sights of Wellington. He even went out of his way to hire a particular vehicle we needed for a disabled friend, which no one else would do! Thank you Tom for going above and beyond for us. Highly recommended!
Our day in Wellington was incredible! Tom is a very gracious, knowledgeable and acomadable host who goes above and beyond being a guide! He made our experience memorable, educational, fun and unforgettable. His knowledge of both daily life and the history of Wellington brought the city and area to life. It was a day filled with activities and Tom had everything in order to maximize our visit. The many pictures he took are forever memories of a special day in New Zealand. Thanks for the smiles and memories, Tom. You are the best! Ellen and Dave
Tom was a hoot to hang out with! His passion and knowledge of his country was awesome! It was like we had known him our whole lives!
Fantastic conducted tour. Tom is a real gentleman and goes above and beynd expectations. Highly recommend Kaewa Tours for a worthwhile experience and to see the highlights of Wellington and its surrounds. Thanks so much Tom for such an enjoyable day and sharing your knowledge of such a beautiful part of the world. 10/10 but would give more if it was possible.
Dennis was awesome! Very personable and knowledgeable, also flexible. We went from pillar to post, saw so much, learned so much! Had a great meal somewhere along the way at a local eatery. The owner of the company, Tom, checked in along the way. We highly recommend this company if you love the personal touch. Great job, Kaewa Tours!
Tom was a wonderful tour guide and gave us a very positive and fun experience. He managed to fit so much into our very short time in Wellington. It was truly a great choice to get away from the large and impersonal cruise ship tour groups and do something small-scale with just our 3-person group, and Tom was definitely the right choice for that personal experience. Highly recommended! Thank you Tom!
This tour operator's passion and dedication in sharing the beauty and knowledge of his city was evident from the moment we met him. He is committed to providing an exceptional experience to his customers. He sent us a full file of photos taken during our visit and detailed summary of our day!!! EXCELLENT TOUR !!! We had a wonderful day.
If you are coming to the Wellington area and want to see some sites I recommend Tom, there is no doubt his priority is his guests’ experience
This has been one of the best tour we did in New Zealand! Tom, our wonderful and most knowledgeable guide took us to many interesting locations that is staying with us. He personally took care of each of our needs. Our lunch location appeased all of our appetite! Please have no fear in calling Tom via Kaewa Tours for any of your tour plans of Wellington or even New Zealand!
Wonderful day out, easy going & relaxed tour setting our own pace & yet managing to pack so much in the day! Highly recommend Tom for his knowledge, humour & professionalism.
We unfortunately missed this port due to bad weather. Tom was very understanding and was quick to respond to us when we notified him of our situation. We will certainly book with him if we are ever able to visit Wellington in the future!
Tom took my friend Robyn and l along with 3 Americans on this tour of Wellington. What a jammed packed day we had. Tom was fabulous and very knowledgeable and did a great commentary. We would highly recommend Kaewa Tours if visiting Wellington NZ.
Tom did a great job hosting us on a Full Day in Wellington tour! We saw more of Wellington than I thought we could in just one day. And Tom's commentary along the way was both educational and entertaining. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to visit Wellington for a day.
Unfortunately we did not have much time in Wellington and wanted to spent a couple of hours at the exceptional Te papa museum, as well. Therefore we only booked the half day Scenic (highlights of) Wellington tour with Kaewa Tours. What a treat!! Tom picked the 4 of us up at the Te papa museum. We then enjoyed one of the best private tours ever! I don't think that anybody could ever see as many beautiful spots in and around Wellington in such a short time accompanied by a charming and knowleledgable guide. After the tour Tom took us back to our hotel. The following day we received a mail with a description of all the important places and highlights we have visited during the tour - attaching a dozen of wonderful photos taken of us during the tour. Thanks for a wonderful day!
We had this guided tour on our schedule with Ewen. We did a complete and historic city tour with lots of reviews with bonus Cable Car tour and coffee at the Botanical Garden. It was very interesting and informative. Several stops are planned and photos taken. That's great for those who don't stay here long. It's in English.
