It becomes a private tour with us and it was worth it. Our tour guide was very nice. He's a local, born in Wellignton so his knowlege of the history and places are incredible.

Very broad and inclusive tour of Wellington. From Downtown to Mount Wellington and Weta Cave, South Coast, Botanical Gardens & Cable car Museum. Our guide, Athena with Zozo Travel was the absolute best. Extremely knowledgeable of the city and history and quite personable. Small tour of 9 so she was able to interact with all of us one on one at the many stops. The van was new, clean, roomy, and comfortable. Lunch and a drink of your choice was included at a small intimate local restaurant. The menu was varied and the food & service was excellent and quite good and plentiful. The low rating for the pick up is because the City of Wellington has decided to deny all independent tour companies access to the port for pier pickup so you have a 10 minute walk on flat ground to the pick up point. I highly recommend this tour for a widely inclusive look at Wellington which is spread out all around the large harbor.
Athena and Zozo tours made getting to many Wellington sites and landmarks so easy! As a solo traveler, their low minimum required bookings also meant I had a good chance to attend and not be left to my own transport. The locations were very interesting, spectacular, relevant, or all three! I loved the lunch spot, the conversation, and the momentum of the tour meant we got to squeeze a lot into approx. 5 hours. Athena was a breath of fresh air who made sure we felt welcome and informed. She was a highlight of an already lovely day! Thanks Zozo!
An ideal way to spend a day in Wellington. I booked this shore excursion following a recommendation on a Cruise Critic Roll call for our New Zealand to Australia cruise in March. The fellow traveller had in fact been directed to this excursion by a friend who lived in Wellington so that was a positive from the start. The moment I booked this through Viator ZoZo Travel were in touch. Great. So reassuring. Customer care at its best. Our guide (think it was Mike) met us dock side promptly and we were all settled in and quickly on our way. Throughout the day he was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The tour covered a large area and as the itinerary details a lot of stops. A particular highlight for us was the lunch served at a local seaside cafe. I understand that the tour company reserves it for customers so you get a personal service. The staff were lovely and the food excellent. Most of us seemed to order the fish and chips and the portions were large. As I said at the start it is a full on tour with a lot to take in but it will give you a very good experience of highlights in Wellington. At the time of booking the tour was called cave, coasts. One of my fellow passengers commented that there were no caves. However I understand that the caves aspect could have been WETA stop. I personally felt that one of the coastal stops lasted longer than necessary which then had the knock on effect of meaning that we did not have the opportunity to visit the rose garden. Some of our group were keen to visit the church which is mentioned in the itinerary but when we arrived it was closed. Perhaps this could have been ascertained beforehand. My husband would also have liked to have had the chance for a photo stop at the Beehive (but that may not have been possible due to parking restrictions). On my return home I contacted ZoZo Travel with my feedback. I was delighted to receive a detailed reply which highlighted the care the proprietor takes in providing a great service to his customers. The tour name has now been changed to Wellington highlights removing reference to caves All in all this was a really good shore excursion offering value for money, customer care, an all round concise city and outskirts tour with a lovely lunch thrown in to boot.
Peter was awesome guide. TripAdvisor needs to advertise in NZ dollars. Would highly recommend to anyone.
It’s a fantastic tour! We lucked out and had Phil all to ourselves. Very good view of Wellington and very informative of the area.
Got to see some great sites, lunch was good, and Michael did an awesome job making sure everyone had a good time.
Athena was a wonderful tour guide—so personable and knowledgeable. She fitted our trip to our needs. When she realized how interested we were in LOTR, she fitted our tour with our interests.
We enjoyed our tour around Wellington visiting interesting places and get to top of mountain with a large wind turbine plus great 360 view of Wellington. The driver was very friendly and informative. Must Do
Wow! The best day of our holiday! Our guide Gary was incredible, a lot of info, we learnt so much. The tour covered a wide view of Wellington, covered a lot of distance and sights. Lots of laughs and yes lunch was delicious! Highly recommend this tour! A fabulous day out!
Had a lovely day and saw alot of Wellington from the coast line to the city. Lunch which was included was yummy as well.
It was a very good experience with a tour guide Steve
Great day with a knowledgeable local. Saw the sights and had good conversations. Tour vehicle was clean and safe.
A delightful scenic tour of I could have done without WETA. Lunch took a long time. Guide stopped and got us a New Zealand meat pie, very tasty!!!! My favorite was cable to top, very short but a great way to get to trail down through gardens to the rose garden. Enjoyed the tge very fast stroll through nature.
We had a great time touring throughout the city with our driver Peter. He was very knowledgeable and personable. The restaurant that we had lunch at also served very tasty food and had a nice staff.
We loved our tour, it was a lovely and comfortable way to see the city. Our guide, Athena, was the highlight! Such a kind and knowledgeable lady, she was so friendly! She took us to a lovely out of the way cafe for lunch which was absolutely delicious! The other hightlight was our travelling companions, in particular a hilarious American chap and his ongoing epic battle with the van seatbelt, he had my friend and I in stitches!
Gary gave us a wonderful overview of Wellington! The views he showed us were spectacular! The lunch was delicious! It was a great tour!
Steve our guide was awesome! So informative & grew up locally. Excellent itinerary & comfy van. Wellington is so pretty! Loved it
We had door to door service in a comfortable MBZ van that had lots of windows. Our guide, Athena, has a wealth of interesting information about the region. We hit all of Wellington’s highlights. The only disappointment was the much loved Chocolate Fish restaurant was permanently closed in January (thanks to Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings movie fame, who refused to renew the restaurant’s lease). But the replacement cafe where we stopped for lunch was quite good.
Athena was an excellent guide
A must do tour to capture just some of what Wellington has to offer Pick up straight from hotel Great value for money Our guide Gary made the experience so enjoyable Great fun Beautiful scenery Top notch lunch Would highly recommend
Great way to see sites in Wellington. Stops at main points in the area. Beautiful views and history. Lunch was excellent
Our driver described this as a "whistle stop" tour and that's an accurate description. We stopped at several Wellington highlights and got a good overview of the city. Our driver, Gary, was extremely informative, friendly, and helpful - particularly regarding Maori history and lore. We saw several places in the city, as well as making stops along the south coast. Be warned, on this tour you will be getting in and out of a van several times. My family was in the very rear of the van and by the end of the tour we felt as though we had folded and unfolded ourselves into the back seat plenty. I would recommend this for to others.
Small group and beautiful tour of the city and coastline! Lots of stops for taking pictures! Guide was very good. Lunch was delicious!! Well organized!
We had a wonderful time! Our guide was fantastic and knowledgeable about the area. I give this tour a five star.
Very informative. Our tour guide Garry was sensational. Would recommend this tour especially if Garry was going to be looking after you
This was a great view of Wellington. We drove all along the coast and to 2 peaks overlooking the city. I feel the length of time spent was right- I did not feel rushed at any stop. The lunch that was included was generous and very good. We had a small group of less than 15 people. Our guide was very knowledgeable.
Beautiful scenery and enjoyed our drive around the gorgeous coastline. And the lunch was wonderful. Loved Wellington.
Great excursion. We really enjoyed the tour. Very easy meet up in the terminal. Nice van and small group. Lunch was excellent.
Our favourite New Zealand City... Our tour guide was fantastic, the stops were as close to the attraction visited as could have been humanly possible. Our tour guide Gary was an absolute star and the views we saw together with the context given by Gary was absolutely spot on...
We had Gary as our guide who was very experienced and has a lot of local knowledge resulting in a memorable trip for us.
I had the best time on this tour and would highly recommend it. The tour guide was extremely accomodating. It was a good half day tour with lots to see and would definitely be keen to do another tour with this company.
Great way to see Wellington! Steve, our guide, was just phenomenal! He took us to many scenic sights around the Wellington area. We saw both some historic sights and some great panoramic views of the city. If you want a great overview of Wellington, book this trip!
Excellent overview of Wellington. Our guide Gari was an exceptional storyteller and we learned lots of Māori and modern day culture. Lunch was delish and we saw many sights. Highly recommended!
BEAUTIFUL!!! Everywhere you go is a stunning view. Loved having a local guide who has lived here all his life.
It’s a great way to see Wellington! The restaurant where we had our lunch (included) had a great selection of foods and tasty. Our driver/tour guide Garry was very knowledgeable and a very good driver . Highly recommended
Large area covered Gary the guide was excellent and was able to stop regularly as we were small group. Could do with more walking out of van.
Phil was wonderful. This was a great tour with so much good information & historic stories. The sights were fantastic. Fantastic lunch! Would definitely recommend using ZoZo travel when in Wellington.
Time and money well spent on a great tour across a large area which included the coast & beach, with a nice overview of the city, walk through the botanical garden and funicular tram. The included lunch at a café in Miramar neighborhood with excellent local fare and fresh fish was a highlight. Alistar’s insight as a multigenerational local resident and architect enhanced the tour. AC & vent in the van failed periodically, which made it stuffy at times, but I’m sure they will fix that.
We were hammered early with wind and rain. The itinerary was fine, but the high overlooks got the brunt of the wind. Peter, our driver, was pleasant, but wasn’t equipped with a microphone, and the people in the back couldn’t hear him. Our previous Viator tours had microphones. The other comment we have is that most of our group expected to go into an actual cave. They were very confused about just going into Peter Jackson’s workshop gift shop. Finally, the lunch was very nice.
Highly recommend this tour, our guide Gary was excellent & so informative. We had a great day, saw so much of Wellington & learned so much about the city, culture & New Zealand in general. Thank you for a great day!
Would highly recommend this tour, our guide Gary was excellent and very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the whole day, saw so much & learned lots about Wellington & New Zealand. Thank you for a great tour.
This excursion is very weather dependent. The lower rating given was because much of the potentially great scenery was impacted by rain and fog. The guide and itinerary were fine, but be forewarned if you do not have clear weather you will be disappointed. The positive was the lunch served with the tour was excellent!
This tour is an excellent way to spend a few hours seeing the sights of Wellington. Beautiful panoramic sights and a visit to the Weta studios where you can see and buy some great Lord of the Rings etc collectables. Great opportunity for photos. I will say that even though it may be Summer you will need some warm clothing. The winds are a good part of the whole experience. Our guide Steve was amazing; both very knowledgable and super friendly.
This tour is worth taking to see Wellington. The beauty of the city can be well appreciated from the comfort of the vehicle. The duration was optimal as well, with enough time for pictures and. Catching fresh air. The included lunch was excellent as well. Finally, our tour guide Gary made the trip surpass all expectations. A very friendly and knowledgeable person, he had humor, information and mythological tidbits to share with us. If we could add an extra star, it would be for Gary.
Great tour if you only have a few hours in Wellington. Breath taking views. Lunch at chocolate fish was excellent.
We had a great day on this trip, a big thanks to our local tour guide and driver Gary. We covered alot of ground , and saw far much more than a larger coach tour could of due the ability of the smaller coach to be able to weave around the smaller back streets up to some of the best vantage points such as the Wind Turbine . Garys commentary being a local was very interesting . we would highly recommend this trip .
Very nice tour of Wellington. Gary was a great guide taking us to very interesting places. We recommend it.
Great tour with Allister as our host. A lot of information about Wellington and the surrounding area.
Athena our guide was wonderful and made sure we saw the beauty of Wellington. We stopped at the harbor and got some photos and then headed to mt. Victoria which provided us with hilltop views of the harbor. From there we headed to weta which is a production company and has some goblin figures from the hobbit that you can get photos with which was a lot of fun. We then stopped and had a great lunch at a cafe. The calamari was delicious. After lunch we drove along the coast admiring the views. Back in town we took the cable car to the top of the hill for more scenic views and then headed to a lovely Botanical garden to see the roses. We ended the trip visiting city sights like parliament and a beautiful church. It was a full day and everyone had a great time.
