We had a great day with Tom, touring the wineries and sites around Wellington and Martinborough areas. I highly recommend this company and any of their tours.

We stop at the Remutaka mountain summit (555 metres above sea level) to take in the majestic views and view the Remutaka Crossing monument which commemorates the 60,000 New Zealand troops who made the crossing from the military camp in Featherston to the Port of Wellington between 1915 and 1918.
At Le Gra, we meet the Owners of Le Gra, Nicky & Brian Geary. Taste up to 8 wines, take a walk through the vineyard (subject to Viticulturist availability) and enjoy a scrumptious platter lunch overlooking the Pinot Noir vines. Your lunch and wines are all made on site by Nicky.
Sample Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Pinot Noir Rosé, Syrah and Pinot Noir at a charming rural cellar door.
Sample up to 6 wines including Poppy's famous Pinot Noir Rose at arguably one of Martinborough's best wineries.

Dave picked us up and we had a great day from there. We went to 4 wineries and loved all of them We lunched after a tasting at Pallisers and the food was as wonderful as the Wine. Each winery had it's charms and we loved all the wine offered. I highly recommend this company, and our tour guide, Dave!
Fabulous experience. First class tour guide and locations.visited were great. I recommend this tour for anyone interested in local wines and in learning about the history of the country.
I had a truly great day out travelling around Wellington and sampling a number of beautiful tasting wines. I enjoyed listening to the owners and staff speak so passionately and eloquently about the wines I was drinking. This was complemented by my tour guide tom. His knowledge and experince shown through as the day unfolded with photo opportunities and great conversations.
I had a beautiful tour in Wellington & Wairarapa Day Tour with Tom as my tour guide, thank you to Tom. As this experience, I learnt and visited many places as below: -Lambton Quay – Saw the original 1855 shoreline uplifted by an 8.2 earthquake. - Parliament Grounds – Viewed Bowen House, the Beehive, Parliament House & Library. - Remutaka Hill Summit – Visited WWI memorial for 60,000 troops who crossed to Wellington Port. - Featherston – Met Paul Broughton at C’est Cheese, home of award-winning Brie. - Opaki Wine Region – Enjoyed a stunning platter lunch and wine tasting at Le Gra, hosted by winemaker Nicky Geary. - Greytown – Visited Schoc Chocolates—heavenly smells and creative flavors by ‘Chocologist’ Murray Langham. - Wellington Cable Car – Rode this iconic attraction, operating since 1902. - Bolton Street – Drove past relocated settler graves disrupted by motorway construction. - Oriental Bay & Mt Victoria – Scenic views of city and harbour. - Miramar ‘Wellywood’ – Saw Weta Cave & Workshop, Stone Street Studios, and visited the Roxy Theatre to view Jamie Selkirk’s actual Oscar. - Evans Bay – Passed homes with private cable cars. Wellington Waterfront – Walked by the WELL_NGTON sign, posed with Solace in the Wind, and discovered your virtual Halo sculpture A day with him (Tom) such a meaningful day ever
We had a wonderful time with Tom on our wine tour. His knowledge of the wineries and owners made for a warm and wonderful day. Highly recommended!
We had a private full day tour with Tom and had a blast! He was very knowledgeable, enjoyable, and went above and beyond what we expected of our tour! We definitely would recommend Tom and his touring company to everyone!
Although this is listed as "solo", we are a married couple traveling together. This is a private tour which picked us up and dropped us at our hotel. We had a great tour. Bryce, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the area, stopping at places of interest on the way to Martinborough and sharing personal anecdotes from his life in the area. The wineries we visited were all top notch, and it was a pleasure spending the day with Bryce. Tom, who owns the tour company went out of his way to meet us as we were leaving town on the ferry, and thanked us with a nice gift. Highly recommended.
NEVER have I ever.. written a review part way through a tour but this is justified to ensure all would be wine loving travellers to Wellington book this tour. Tom greeted us warmly at our hotel which set the scene well for the day ahead. He takes photos so you don’t have to, he provides so much information and the day so far is just so memorable. How luck are we to have found this tour and more importantly our guide Tom
The drive from Wellington to the wineries was stunning. Tom was knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and laid back. We enjoyed all of the wines we tasted and bought a bottle at each stop. We would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone looking to experience greater Wellington wine country!
An amazing trip, Tom is so knowledgeable about everything in Wellington and showed us loads of things before we even left the city. It’s a stunningly beautiful drive out of the city and a poignant stop at a WWI site before dropping into the winelands. Our first stop was probably our highlight as we stopped off at Le Gra. A small place run by a family and in a quiet side road……….heaven. The staff were amazing and after a few pictures we were told about the wines by Brian. We then had a very tasty lunch and a look around the vines. Would highly recommend this place. Our next winery was Johner Estate, proper in the sticks, but so nice. Great tastings from the really knowledgeable young lady. I was talking proper BS now so was loving it. Our last stop was in Martinborough, a place called Poppies, we had a few photos in the vines before sampling a few of the liquid goods. Again, the staff are so knowledgeable, they seem to know a lot more than me and I have been tasting wine for a lot longer than them. We then headed back to Wellington. What an experience which was for my 40th birthday and worth every penny. Tom is a very easy guy to talk to and knows answers to pretty much anything you ask him. What a stunning tour, would highly recommend to anyone want to see the winelands of Wairarapa.
I took the Private Wairarapa Wine Delights Tour from Wellington with Tom and it was a fantastic experience. All of the stops were amazing but Poppy's was my absolute favorite. It was great getting to chat with some of the owners to learn more about their wines. The icing on top was the fact that Tom takes photos of you during the experience. As I was traveling solo during my trip it was so nice to have some candid shots along with some additional staged ones to commemorate the experience. I will 100% be scheduling another experience with Tom if I ever get back to Wellington for another trip.
This was such an amazing day. Tom is such a wonderfully relaxed and knowledgeable guy who loves showing people wine country around Martinborough. His commentary throughout the day made this a truly memorable experience. Our wine tasting at Le Gra and lunch provided by Nicky Geary and Brian was delightful. The rose was particularly tasty. Later, at Johner Estate, we were surprised with freshly picked grapes in addition to the delicious wines. Our stop at Poppies was so much fun. The Sauvignon Semillon was something we don’t usually seek out, but this one was really good. Since Tom heard that we were Lord of the Rings fans, on the way back to Wellington, he stopped at Kaitoke Regional Park where Rivendell scenes were filmed. That was a real treat. Tom seems to know everyone, and they know him. If we ever make it back to New Zealand, we will certainly book his Foodie Delights Tour. Thanks for an unforgettable day!
What an amazing day!! My husband and I didn’t really notice the word ‘private’ in the description of our tour…so were surprised when it was just the two of us and Tom. He really made us feel special. Tom is very knowledgeable, friendly and a great person to spend a day with. Brian and Nicky at Le Gra winery host a really nice tasting and lunch, and shared a lot of information about their operation. We met the owner at Johner’s, and Poppies winery was elegant and fun. We saw a lot of the countryside with a few stops at some scenic and interesting places. Would highly recommend this tour.
Had a fabulous day with Tom. Fantastic selection of wineries to visit. Lunch at Poppies was fantastic. Would encourage people take this trip
Highly recommend this tour! Tom is a fabulous tour guide and a genuinely nice person. We had a wonderful lunch followed by 3 great wineries!
Tom and Jill were delightfull hosts. The Bees in Featherston, fascinating, the scenery of the south, amazing, but best of all was the delicious fine food accompanied with an exquisite wine at Poppies in Martinborough will stay in our "memory banks" for many a year.
Had a wonderful day with Tom who shared his expertise and enthusiasm. He is very knowledgeable in wine and in New Zealand history and culture. His personal touch with me and the winemakers themselves added to the joy of great wine and food. Highly recommended.
We (3 couples) recently had the pleasure of experiencing a Martinborough wine tour with Tom, and it exceeded all expectations! The picturesque vineyards, coupled with the expert guidance of our tour guide Tom, made for an unforgettable day. From a fantastic lunch platter at one of the wineries to personal commentary from a number of family run wineries and winemakers was just one of many exceptional elements that Tom organised for us. Tom went above and beyond to be helpful. Thank you Tom.
A long overdue review! My friend and I had an excellent full day wine tour led by Tom. He was very knowledgable and friendly. He gave us a fantasic introduction to local wines followed by tastings that were out of this world. Lunch at one of the wineries was extrmely impressive too. The surrounding areas located around the wineries are quaint and charming. We even got to check out a local bee farm! The best part was that Tom picked us up from our hotel and dropped us back off happy and so glad that we chose him as a tour guide. Tom has a great sense of humor and I highly recommend checking out this experience! This tour is wonderful from start to finish and I live in the surrounding Napa Valley area. It is a unique experience coming from a picturesque wine paradise.
I recently did a Kaewa Tours full day Wairarapa wine tour with Tom the Owner of Kaewa Tours. From when I first booked the tour until he dropped us off at the end of the day the experience was first class. When I first booked my tour Tom sent a personalised video message thanking me for choosing to book with Kaewa Tours. This was a great personalised customer touch which we appreciated. When Tom picked us up he did a full Health and Safety briefing and explained any potential risks or hazards we may encounter during the day. Our first winery we visited was Le Gra just north of Masterton. The owner and winemaker Nicky provided us with a beautiful platter lunch and amazing wines. Nicky’s Husband Brian is the Viticulturist and spent time with us explaining what’s involved with vine management. It was great to meet passionate owners who were happy to spend time with us. Our second winery we visited was Johner Estate in Gladstone. The drive out to Johner was very scenic and the wines did not disappoint! Kat from Johner took us through a wide range of wines and there were all very good. We finished in Martinborough where we sampled exquisite wines at Poppies and finished our full day wine tour with the very humorous Shawn Brown the Owner/Winemaker at Muirlea Rise. When Tom dropped us off he gave us a lovely gift in appreciation of booking with him which we thought was a lovely gesture. Overall it was a top notch day and we highly recommend Tom form Kaewa Tours.
Our wine trip was amazing! Tom was very friendly, informative and flexible. He gave us tons of information on sites along the way explaining the history and stopping for pics. We enjoyed all 3 wineries we visited and the honey farm. The lunch we had at the winery was very plentiful and flavorful. Such a delight to visit with the owners and get first hand information. After our return, he toured us around Wellington showing us the best places. I would DEFINITELY book with Kaewa Tours again! Tom did not disappoint. We are so glad we took this tour. We were on a 21 day tour of New Zealand with a tour company and had this day off to do whatever we wanted. We decided to book this one day tour and are SOOO glad we did. We liked it so much we told the tour company we were doing the long tour with that they should offer this wine tour as an optional excursion! Everyone was jealous that we had such a great tour to do that day and said if they had known they would have booked it too. All I can say in conclusion is - BOOK IT!
Tom, our tour guide was professional and fully engaging. He was on time and had a wealth of knowledge to share. The tour was excellent and we visited some excellent vineyards and lunch was superb. Tom went the extra mile and even took us to a honey shop which was so enlightening. Would totally recommend the tour
Tom was such a lovely and knowledgeable host for our tour through the Wairarapa expanse. It was obvious that he had a personal connection with each place we visited, and he passed on this admiration and delight to us. While the wine did speak for itself, we never felt rushed or unengaged throughout the course of our experience. His selections for us were varied and well-planned. Seamless and entertaining, Tom made us feel welcome, and we won't soon forget our time in the Wellington and Martinborough area.
Would definitely recommend! We went to three different wineries and a chocolate shop. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the area. She was prompt in picking us up and was an excellent driver. The tour was intimate and exactly what we were looking for. The wines were delicious! A must book if you’re in the area!!
We did the Martinborough Wine Tour with Tom, who quickly became a fun friend in addition to being a skilled tour guide. We really enjoyed chatting in the car as we drove from Wellington to Martinborough, and Tom has great stories and lots of history to share about the area. It’s clear he has strong personal relationships with the folks in Martinborough and guests like us are treated very well. He also granted a few last minute requests like stopping for ice cream and having an up-close visit with a friendly flock of sheep. I’m especially grateful that Tom took and shared dozens of amazing photos of Gary and me during the day. I’m usually not in a picture unless it’s a selfie so this was a real treat. I highly recommend Tom for any of his tours and know you will enjoy your time with him.
We did a full day tour with Tom that included some NZ sights and some spectacular wineries in Martinborough. Never having been to the region we found Tom to be a great source of information as well as a gracious host. We very much appreciated the choice of winery and the people we encountered were great fun. Our lunch at Poppies was outstanding as a charcuterie board style. And when in the home of NZ Pinot noir...embrace that, it is very good. Tom made our day, and left us with a memorable outing. Next time we come, Tom will get our call for a tour!
We had a fantastic tour with Tom, he went above and beyond - ensuring we had a great day out in Martinborough. Highly recommend.
We booked a wine tour with Tom, who picked us up from our hotel in central Wellington. From booking the tour Tom was great at communicating. Tom chose four amazing family run vineyards which offered an amazing selection of wines. We were able to meet the owners and wine makers at all of the vineyards which made for a much more personal tour. Would highly recommend and book again!
You don’t need to think twice when booking the wine tour with Tom. He was an absolute delight and provided excellent guest services before, throughout and after the trip. The vineyards Tom chose to take us to were smaller family run vineyards where we got to personally meet the owner and wine makers. It was very warming to see how passionate they are about their craft. We were able to sit with Tom over lunch at Poppies and was a great opportunity to exchange great conversations. Would highly reccomend, and would definitely book again. Also, Jill makes amazing orange muffins! - Ling and Steven
We recently had the privilege of experiencing a Kaewa Tour with the one and only, Tom. Tom was a fantastic host who made sure we got to Martinborough safely, learnt along the way and had fun. The well thought out day had plenty of time built in for each vineyard and even included a private vineyard tour and incredible lunch at Moy Hall. Tom is very knowledgeable, friendly and has great relationships with the Martinborough locals. We would highly recommend Kaewa tours and are looking forward to booking in another adventure with Tom.
Had a fantastic day in Martinborough thanks to Kaewa Tours. Tom is very professional, friendly and a good laugh as he guided us from Wellington over to Martinborough and back. Tom definitely knew where to take us to impress - 3 wineries and a private tour at a winery, a chocolate shop, an incredible lunch and to the best cheese shop I have been too. Unlike others tours I have been on, Tom allows the perfect amount of time to have tastings and learn about the wine process without feeling rushed at each winery. Apart from the great places we visited, not having the hassle of organising which places to visit made life very easy! If I could give 6 stars I would!! Thanks Tom for a great day and I will be back for another tour soon :)
We could not have had a more enjoyable time on our Martinborough wine tour. Tom at Kaewa Tours is an incredible host! He had created an itinerary that gave us the best taste of the Martinborough wine region (especially as some of us had not visited before). We visited 3 winery’s and even had a private tour which was amazing, a delicious lunch, a chocolate lovers dream chocolate shop and a cheese shop. We contacted Tom prior to our tour and he was very willing to cater to our needs which created the perfect day. Tom made sure we were looked after and treated like VIPs at each and every stop. We could not recommend Kaewa tours enough. Thank you Tom, we’ll be booking again in the future for sure.
Wow, was in Wellington and went along on this tour with friends / workmates. Tom was an excellent host, great driver and told a few good yarns/stories of the area. Highly recommend this tour for anyone who enjoys great wine, good food, cheese and chocolate. We even managed to sneak a few craft beers in (thanks Tom)! I enjoyed relaxing and not having to worry about driving, where we we heading or where to go. Kaewa Tours took care of everything. Great tour, plenty of wines, good food and great to learn about the region, its rich history and insightful commentary from the wine makers as we sipped and slurped through their gorgeous creations. Got some good bargins, sipping on a Poppies Pinot Noir as I write this review.
What a great day ! Wine, cheese, chocolate - what's not to Love ! We even found time to sample a bit of craft beer ! Tom was a wonderful guide & the program was full but not rushed. I'd never been to Martinborough before, but had intended to for years. Doing it with Kaewa Tours, meant we could ALL enjoy the tastings, without worrying about the drive back to Wellington. Highly recommend !
