Facilities and service have unfortunately plummeted in the last few years, we've noticed a steady decline over our last few stays. We usually stay as part of a larger family gathering. Our latest stay had made us decide we likely won't return; facilities were dirty, not maintained and simply not ready until 6pm for some of us. Service was quite poor on the whole due to what seems to be understaffing and micromanaging. It's a shame really as this used to be a great venue that now looks rundown and not cared for. A few individual staff were great, but under pressure and unable to be autonomous in their role as they had to check with management for essentially every query or decision, even down to whether we could have our desserts to the table. Spa and big pool were filthy, spa water level was half full and the pool area was covered with used plasters. Drawer fronts were falling apart, and the odour from the cupboards was quite bad (possibly from the plumbing). Cleanliness was poor, but it seems like there were only 2 people responsible for the entire facility. Even the driveway around the back had potholes that would rival the Waihi mine. Breakfast service that was empty and still had people paying and entering to no food. Please don't expect Copthorne standards if you book, I'm surprised they would still put their name to this.

Great location, can't argue that. Staff members all friendly and welcoming. Room was comfortable and warm. And very quiet. Only gripes I have was, the room service menus aren't the same as what the restaurant serve, I tried ordering one thing and the lady taking my order was confused and said I must've meant something else, that it wasn't on the menu. I asked for it to be delivered after a specific time as I was going to soak in the bath, but it came early, and half my order was for another room. No body wash in the bottle in the shower, and the bathroom was a little unclean. But. Comfortable bed, and despite the other things, I would stay again.
We stayed 2 nights in the Whangaimoana Suite. Wow it was a lovely refurbished 3 room suite.... huge bathroom with amazing spa bath and underfloor heating. Lounge was large with dining table for 4.. and sink and microwave. Bedroom was huge with a king bed. Unfortunately we think the bed didn't get replaced when the refurbishment happened. The bed was so uncomfortable.. we went to reception but the alternative room had creaky beds. Recently we stayed 4 nights in millenium rotorua. No bed issues there. So we were disappointed to say the least when you're paying for an executive suite as something a little bit special, and you don't sleep well.
Sadly our stay wasnt the best. The staff were great, really friendly happy in their work. The room was ok. Filling a kettle from the bathroom sink not the best and the kettle awkwardly filled. You have plates bowls and cutlery in your room but no microwave. The fridge froze the milk. Restaraunt they had a buffet plus the menu but we were very disappointed in the food. They did refund 50% Thank you Lots of families there and yes they accommodate them really well but the spa water was not clean so we didn't use it sadly. Our room was quiet bed was comfy room was warm. Great watching the rugby and bar staff were great.
I wanted to do this review mainly for the service! Jess and Amber… you are both amazing. I can’t speak more highly of you both. Thank you, your genuine care and passion for customer service is appreciated by so many. There’s no words to explain how much it means to deal with lovely people like yourselves. I only gave 4 stars cause I’m just so disappointed in the food lately. Rooms are always immaculate so big shout out to the cleaners also :) Happy Easter Team Solway x
