Allen is very friendly and knowledgeable. You won’t be disappointed. He knows the best spot to view the changing of the guard.

View the former home of Civil War General Robert E. Lee. Learn how Arlington is planning for the future as it continues to be America's most hallowed ground. Wear comfortable walking shoes! The Military Women's Memorial is near the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery. This is a wonderful museum honoring the more than 3 million women who have served in, and support, the United States military over of 250-year history. The museum is free and open to the public, generally the same hours as the cemetery - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Our tour does not go inside as guests tend to view museums at their own pace.

I wish I could give 10 stars! This was one of the best walking tours we have ever done. Allen was extremely knowledgeable about Arlington National Cemetery, the history, fun facts, and so many stories he shared with us that really made our experience unforgettable. If this is your first time visiting, do a walking tour, and do it with Allen! You won’t regret it.
Alan put us in the best position to watch the change of the guard/ very knowledgeable/ very good experience
Allen was a very knowledgeable and professional tour guide. All the extras we learned about the history of the Arlington cemetery and seeing what highly respected grounds it is was so touching. It was an honor to visit such sacred grounds. The change of the guards is amazing.
Incredible tour! Our guide Allen shared his considerable knowledge and passion for not only the people buried at Arlington, but also the fascinating history and architecture of the beautiful property itself. He made names on graves and monuments come alive again and beautifully and sensitively reminded our group of the sacrifices made by so many for the freedom we all share. So many heroes are buried here, and Allen highlighted such a variety, from presidents to everyman heroes with amazing stories. Allen welcomed questions and even helped a member of our group find the grave of a relative. Allen easily personalized the tour to our pace and interests. Every American should visit Arlington National Cemetery, but an insightful visit with Monumental Walks will leave you awed, grateful, and proud. Thank you Allen!
Hands down, the best tour(s) I have been on. After going on one of Allen McCabe's tours, I knew we would be going on more. Allen has a way of not just teaching our history but bringing us back in time to it. While multiple people may be on the tours, he spoke to us like it was a personal conversation we are all in together. Allen's Monumental Walks are so captivating that my group actually said they couldn't believe the hours he spent with us went by so fast. My family and I laughed at everyone's wide eyes and slacked jaws that we thought "if he kept talking to us, everyone would follow him home". He is an encyclopedia of knowledge, but entertaining, and when asked by people what they should do while they are in DC, I refer them all to Monumental Walks. You won't be disappointed.
Our family (mom, dad, and 3 girls ages 11, 11, and 14) went on one of Allen's tours of Arlington while we were in D.C. for Spring Break and it was the highlight of all of our trip. Allen is so incredibly knowledgeable about the cemetery and its history, as well as the best vantage point for seeing things like the changing of the guard, he's pleasant, flexible and just a gem. Highly recommended.
Allen was one of the best tour guides I have ever had to be quite honest. If you are looking for someone who is knowledgeable and passionate about what he does, this is your guy. Next time we are back in DC, I’ll be looking him up.
Allen is the best guide, he made us fall in love with this cemetery. We plan to do this tour again on our next visit. Thanks, Allen for a fantastic visit.
Went on this tour with Allen on the first week of April and had a great experience. Lots of great and interesting info presented during this walking tour. Allen kept a good, easy pace which helped the older family members in my party. There was plenty of parking spaces at the parking lot structure right next to the cemetery. Prior to the event Allen communicated with us via text, which also provided a good way to ask any tour questions prior to our meetup. Would definitely recommend this tour with Allen for those who haven't been to Arlington.
Allen was our tour guide and he did an amazing job giving us great information at the Arlington National Cemetery. The tour was 2.5 hours and it just flew by as he kept us moving and explained everything so well. Allen knew the best places to be at the best times, even though it was a really busy season. Highly recommend this tour!
Allen's tour of Arlington National Cemetery was amazing. He shared many incredible facts ,stories and even little known facts of the cemetery. He took plenty of breaks as we walked all over the grounds. The terrain is challenging as there are lots of steep hills. The highlight was when he took us to a excellent vantage point to see the ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Worth it!!! We enjoyed our time with him. 5 Stars!!
Allen was an amazing tour guide! So many stories and fun facts! Can’t wait to come back with my husband for this tour sometime soon. I would highly recommend Allen!!! Thank you again Allen!!
Allen was a wonderful, funny, and informative tour guide! He has a wealth of information about Arlington that you would never find out without a tour guide who has really studied the cemetery at a beyond in depth level. We would love to tour with him again!
This tour was fantastic! Allen is very knowledgeable, fun, and friendly. We had a great time and learned quite a bit about the history of Arlington. This walking tour is a must! Don’t do it on your own.
I could not have had a more pleasurable experience on our tour with tour guide Allen Mcabe. He is extremely knowledgeable, not only concerning Arlington Cemetery, but the DC area as well. He took the time to answer questions and to point out many aspects of the cemetery that were not on the normal tour route. He took the time to explain to the children in the group about things that would interest the younger portion of our group. I highly recommend taking Allen's tour for a comprehensive tour anywhere in the DC area.
This was the best tour of Arlington I have ever been on, and I have come to Arlington a number of times. Allen makes each tour personal so you get a rich history (he actually carries a binder with extra photos and information!) into this hallowed place and brings you to areas of Arlington you didn't know existed. I have read many books on Arlington and still learned from Allen. How did 3 hours go so fast? If you really want an awesome tour of this beloved place, book it with Monumental Walks. You will love the experience and come away with a greater respect for our nation's history. Valerie Miller, NY
The tour was very informative. Allen has a great personality and is very knowledgeable about the history and specifics of Arlington. I There is a lot of walking so be prepared to get your steps in! I would definitely recommend taking one of his tours.
I'm an old guy, so I've taken a lot of tours - and I was a tour guide for a couple of years way back - and Allen is the best tour guide I've encountered during all that time and through all those experiences. He's knowledgeable, personable, humorous, and considerate of others. You will learn things from Allen, and you will enjoy the time you spend on his tour.
Great tour! The guide was very knowledgeable. He had a never ending list of interesting facts about each area and each grave that we visited. I had visited Arlington National Cemetery a few times by myself, but missed a lot of the great facts presented on the Monumental Walks tour.
Engaging and knowledgeable. Well prepared and interested in us and our stories as well. I would recommend the private tour to anyone interested in Arlington Cemetery and it's history.
We’ve toured with Allen twice now — first at Arlington National Cemetery in September 2024 and again in March 2025 — and honestly, the reason we came back in March was because of him. Allen is wonderful. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and it’s clear how passionate he is about what he does. This past trip, we also booked a private walking tour of the National Mall with him, and we brought our two young boys (4 and 6). Allen was so patient and easygoing — which we really appreciated. He rolled with the flow of our family, which included several snack breaks and plenty of time to admire ducks and squirrels. Our older son is on the Autism Spectrum, and committing to a long walking tour can feel risky if you’re not sure how it will go. But with Allen, we knew we were in good hands. His kindness, calm energy, and flexibility made all the difference. He also sent us a great “things to do” list for D.C., which we’ve shared with several friends since. He’s always been super responsive whenever we’ve had questions. Allen has become our go-to for any touring in D.C. — we wouldn’t think of using anyone else.
This tour is one you should absolutely do! Our Arlington tour was our favorite D.C. tour. Allen was very engaging sharing the history of Arlington. He was very intentional around our timing to the tomb of the unknown soldier so we could watch the changing of the guards with the best view. Our group size was 10-15 people and it never felt overly crowded.
Wonderful tour and guide! Allen was very educated and made this experience very memorable with his knowledge and passion. Definitely recommend.
Allen is such a professional! We had a wonderful experience on our recent tour of Arlington National Cemetery. He has extensive knowledge and an excellent ability to deliver information and facts that the group is interested in. He traveled at an appropriate pace while navigating the cemetery thoughtfully to attend the changing of the guard on time. He went above and beyond to help our family find burial sites of family friends. This was our third time booking with Allen; I wouldn’t think twice about asking specifically for Allen to guide me through DC again! He’s a pleasure to spend time with! Thanks Allen!
Very knowledgeable knows how to interact with all age groups great information. Would definitely book him again. He was great.
We have traveled all over the world, and this was one of the most educationally enlightning tours we've been on as a family. Allen is an excellent tour guide and has a wealth of knowledge. He kept our 13 and 16-year-olds attention throughout a three and a half hour walking tour.
This was a really fabulous tour that we have talked about for weeks after the event. Allen is so interested in his subject that he could not help but be interesting to us. We got some lovely behind the scenes insights from him and lots of humour. Definitely a go-to!
Allen was very informative and made the walk very interesting. He was able to answer everyone’s questions and gave very helpful tips for touring The DC area.i highly recommend his tour .
Extremely good tour guide. He is very knowledgeable and professional. We highly recommend him! Can't wait to take family!
Allen led us through an amazing tour of Arlington national Cemetery. He is totally knowledgeable, and brings a lot of interesting facts to his Tours. He took us to all of the major places we had heard about like the Kennedy’s plots and Robert E Lee’s house, but he also threw in some interesting information and burials that we were unaware of. A very knowledgeable guide is a must on these tours. Allen had the foresight to get us to the exact location at the exact time so that we would have a perfect unobstructed view of the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. The timing and placement was perfect because of his extensive knowledge of the cemetery. Do not miss this tour!
