Itinerary
Enter the National Gallery of Art and follow your guide through one of America’s best collections of artwork produced by Renaissance artists, French Impressionists, and great American painters. See works from Claude Monet, Raphael, Gilbert Stuart, and Edgar Degas, as well as more modern artists like Picasso, Pollock, Warhol, and O’Keefe, as you learn what’s really behind the creation of some of these pieces. Your private guide will lead the way through the halls of the museum, telling stories, and stopping at famous works of art. Some pieces you’ll see on this tour include “Ginevra de’Benci” by Leonardo da Vinci, “Self Portrait” by Vincent Van Gogh, and “Woman with a Parasol” by Claude Monet. Listen as your guide fills you in on the techniques behind some of the paintings, as well as some of the history and scandals that happened because of them. You’ll also learn about the museum’s building which took just 100 years to transition from a nearly hollow building to the home of the US’s best art collections.

An excellent tour with a super guide
Our tour guide Paul Glenshaw was absolutely exceptional. As someone who worked at the National Art Gallery he possesses an amazing amount of unique information, including quirky information only someone who worked there would know (ask about the pistol range). Paul is also a talented artist who is passionate about art and he engages you so that you view the various pieces of art differently, with greater understanding. The backstories of the various works of art intensifies their impact. As he is also very personable, he made the entire experience wonderful.
The National Gallery of Art is one of Washington, D.C.'s most famous places to visit. One of the highlights is their beautiful sculpture garden. Admission is free
Wonderful Experience ! Guide Annemarie was very knowledgeable and kind. Fabulous art! Babylon Tours highly recommend
Rebecca is the most impressive guide! She’s a historian with deep knowledge of and love for art. We could not have had a more professional and engaging guide.
I loved this service. Very accessible website. They communicate very effectively. They run a great tour.
Babylon did a great job in communicating with us before the tour. Our guide, Annemarie, was terrific. Very knowledgeable and friendly - she didn’t a great job in creating a conversation about all of the pieces that we viewed. When we veered off track she was very flexible in talking about whatever we wanted to discuss, even when it probably wasn’t on our planned itinerary.
Annemarie , our tour guide , was amazing and very knowledgeable with each and every exhibit. She was very patient and able to answer all of my inquisitive daughter’s questions! I love that it’s a small, intimate group size especially for my autistic daughter who gets easily overwhelmed within large groups. I highly recommend this tour, even if art isn’t your cup of tea, you will definitely learn and discover a newfound respect for the fine arts with Annemarie’s true passion within her words!
Great tour of national gallery of art! Annemarie was fun and informative. My family enjoyed the tour also.
Leigh was so knowledgeable and made our experience memorable! Highly recommend her!! We will ask for her again when we return
Annemarie was knowledgeable & interesting. We are not art savvy, so she spoke @ our level , which we appreciated. On the rooftop, she shared personal experiences re inauguration
Annemarie was our guide with 2 other people in our group. We found her knowledgeable & interesting. We do not know the art world well, but she spoke @ my level which was appreciated. She combined the art information with some personal stories. For example when we were on the rooftop, she told us the president inauguration parades she witnessed.
Rebecca was an incredible tour guide this morning. We knew we would be looking at amazing art but to have a knowledgeable, funny, and thoughtful guide made thus an experience of a lifetime. We moved at a pace that was comfortable for all, saw so much, and left with smiles on our faces. Thank you Rebecca.
Annemarie is an articulate tour guide with a depth and breath of art knowledge. Excellent!
Ryan was great!! Very smart, invited questions and explained the artwork. The three of us thoroughly enjoyed Ryan. I would recommend him 100 percent!
Great tour with Rebecca. Art history, rare facts, and priceless views of infamous art! Time went very fast, covered a lot of ground.
Our guide, Leigh, was phenomenal. Our group wanted to enjoy and learn about the artwork since our personal and professional lives have very limited interaction with the arts. She was able to provide wonderful stories and complemeted our trip with pieces that did align with our interests. We highly recommend!
Paul was an amazing and a knowledgeable guide who showed us his expertise through how he explained the meaning of the paintings.
Anne Marie was friendly, knowledgeable and so interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Would do it again tomorrow!
Rebecca is an outstanding guide—knowledgeable, engaging, and delightfully funny. We had a wonderful and enriching tour of the National Gallery of Art with her.
We had the absolute pleasure of taking a guided art history tour at the National Gallery of Art, and it was nothing short of exceptional. Our guide, Meagan, brought the museum to life with deep knowledge, storytelling finesse, and infectious enthusiasm.
We had a great time with Paul and all his behind the scenes information. He knows so much about art and this gallery
Annemarie’s tour was perfect! She’s extremely knowledgeable, approachable and engaging for all ages and experience levels in our group. Never had a better tour. Highly recommend.
We had an incredible experience touring the National Gallery of Art with Leigh as our guide. She was not only extremely knowledgeable about the artwork and artists, but also had a wonderful way of explaining the historical context and artistic techniques behind each piece in a way that was both informative and engaging. Leigh took the time to ask about our personal interests in art and made a point to tailor the tour to include and highlight those areas, which made the experience feel even more personalized and meaningful. Her passion for art and thoughtful approach truly elevated our visit. Highly recommend booking a tour with Leigh—you’ll walk away with a much deeper appreciation for the collection!
Annemarie did a great job explaining the art and artists. Highly recommend her as will greatly enhance your visit to the museum!
My guide, Paul Gleason was friendly, thoughtful and approachable. He guided me through the National Gallery of Art with ease and impressive knowledge. He during our tour we covered many artists works but Paul presented easily and at my pace so I didn’t feel overwhelmed (that can easily happen when you are surrounded by vast numbers of works of art). Paul communicated the artists style, the artists intent and the historical significance of either the period of the painting or the effect the art had on the current culture. Many times I felt (what could have been) the artists actual emotion on the canvas. I throughly enjoyed my afternoon at the gallery and highly recommend Paul as a guide.
Anne Marie was an outstanding tour guide. She shared her knowledge about the gallery and the artwork effortlessly and the 2 1/2 hours we spent together flew by. I would highly recommend this tour and try to request Annemarie as your guide!p
Highly recommend Meghan. She was very knowledgeable and fun. Had soooo much information about the works of art, artists, donors of various art works, etc. We learned a ton! And with a limited amount of time, Meghan was able to hit the highlights of what we should see among the vast expanse of artwork on display.
Great tour for me and my wife ! Informative and creatively diverse tour. I really enjoyed how in depth Rebecca was definitely would recommend her!
Fantastic tour! I’m a DC local and saw the museum in a whole new light. Great insights and information.
Leigh was our guide and she was fantastic. Her knowledge and appreciation for the museum was very evident and added a great deal to the tour. It was everything I and my wife were hoping it would be.
Leigh was our wonderful tour guide and made this experience everything I was hoping for. She was extremely knowledgeable and tailored the tour to our interests. Definitely a must do.
Our guide , Rebecca, was personable, knowledgeable and engaging. A marvelous visit to this fabulous gallery.
I’m depth and time goes quickly. Donna was excellent. We only did the west wing but spent time in several galleries and followed a chronological sequence
Donna was excellent, well paced and knowledgeable. The tour was well organized. We learned a lot and fell prepared to go back to the Natl Gallery on our own and spend time in each of the areas
Anne-Marie was fantastic. She was very enthusiastic, engaging and knowledgeable. My only criticism is that it didn’t go long enough. And she actually went over the allotted time.
Great experience if you want to learn a bit more of the precious art and artists. Leigh was great with history, artist backs and perspective. She is an amazing tour guide. Highly recommend.
We really enjoyed the entire experience. Amanda was wonderful and knowledgeable. Going by timeline was interesting and she shared fun facts.
We had wonderful experience and learned very much! It was only 2 of us so it was super private tour and enjoyed every min of it! The guide was absolutely the best ! Very knowledgeable, attentive, helpful, proactive and kind! A must have experience! Thank you !
The Best gallery we have visited! Having visited most of the European galleries and New York’s offerings on this trip it is fair to say that this gallery has it all! Blown away by the whole experience!
Of all the tour guides that I have used across Europe or the US, Leigh definitely makes it into my top 3! She has this passion for what she decides to cover within the museum that is hard to beat. She can also quickly grasp what it is that is of interest to you specifically and will happily rearrange her tour plans to take that into account. I have saved her contact details for the next time I am in DC!
Our tour guide, Annemarie, made this tour an exceptional experience! She was so knowledgeable, friendly, and flexible. We absolutely loved taking this tour. She made the museum experience come alive. Definitely worth every penny! Thanks, Annemarie! We sure appreciate you. J & M
Our guide, Rebecca, was amazing. She made the art relatable, interesting, and fun Her knowledge was outstanding. The pace of the tour, while quick, was great to give you a really good overview of the museum. 6 stars
Fantastic! Stephen was an excellent guide! Another A+ tour from Babylon! I will continue to use them wherever I travel and appreciate the association with Viator who comes through in a pinch, last minute.
Stephen was were versed, thorough, and a delight to lead our private 2 person tour. Ask for him! This is the 3rd time in different cities that I have been on a tour provided by Babylon. I always look for their services and highly recommend them!
I enjoyed the small group we had. I thought the guide did a good job of engaging the young girl in our group.
Stephen was great! Very knowledgeable and engaging with the children in the group. Best way to enjoy a museum in my opinion.
The tour guide was knowledgeable , informative and engaging. It was a splendid tour.I would recommend Stephen and your firm without hesitation.
Guide brought paintings to life by pointing out and explaining tiny details that showed much more of the meaning than a casual viewer might get. For example, in the well-known painting of Napoleon, she noted the burned-down candle, the hour on the clock, the sand in his fist, the disheveled hair . . . all designed to show he'd been toiling through the night for his countrymen. Highly recommend this tour and our guide, Leigh.
