It is a really great option if you are unable to get tickets thru the government site. These tickets are hard to get so I appreciate Viator doing the legwork. It was a great experience!
If going inside the Washington Monument is a must-do for you, then fine. I only bought these tickets because I had free Tripadvisor money that was about to expire and this was the lowest extra cost to me. I regret spending my hard-earned $1. I may be biased because I was scared of being in an enclosed space with no escape, but there's no way this is even in the top 50 coolest things to do in DC. There are windows all around the top, but they are pretty small and dirty, and the space is not suitable for the number of people they let in. You can walk down some stairs into a museum on the floor below, but if you don't like enclosed spaces, it will feel worse than the top. I also think these tickets were supposed to come with a book, but I did not receive one. Getting emailed the tickets a few hours before our reserved time kind of stressed me out. When we got there, there wasn't any clear direction as to who we were supposed to present our ticket to, so that wasn't fun either. It's free to go into the Washington Monument, but you have to book a ticket the day of at the site itself. Apparently, it's possible for tickets to sell out very early in the day, so I'd only get this ticket if this is something you really want to do.
A good place to see the views if unable to see all the sites. They are well marked above each window.
It was an awesome experience to see the Washington Monument. It’s a beautiful sight to see. We had Skip the Line tickets and we were early to enter. We were allowed to enter early.
I mistakenly downloaded the Viator barcode to my Apple wallet, and when I presented that to the park ranger she called it an illegal third party site and told us to scram. Make sure you watch for the email that has a PDF with the official barcode from reservations.gov. That got us in no problem.
My husband and I are visiting from Australia and paid US$25 each through Viator for a tour of the Washington Monument. Upon arrival, a Parks Officer advised us that admission to federal monuments and buildings, including the Washington Monument, is free. To make matters worse, there was no record of our Viator booking, and the 2:30 pm time slot we had booked was full. There was no other availability for the rest of the day. As this was our last day in Washington, D.C. so we missed out on the experience and wasted US$50 (about $80 Australian) . DO NOT PAY FOR THIS TOUR THROUGH VIATOR. Book directly through the official government website or in person at the monument instead. A very disappointing experience that cost us money, wasted our time and ruined our opportunity to visit the Washington Monument.
Although it was nice to have an assigned time to get in, I think it could’ve been done for free. So double check before you come in.
Visited the monument on a rainy day in October 2026. The entrance has a security check point and the ride to the top of the monument was quick and we felt safe during our visit. The view out the windows at the top was obscured by the weather but we enjoyed the brief visit at the top of the monument as this was on my bucket list of things to do in DC. At the top of the monument, we read about the construction of the Washington monument and viewed historic photos of the construction. We purchased tickets ahead of time using Viator but learned on the day of arrival we could have received entry tickets at the base of the monument for free. My advise would be not to purchase tickets ahead of time on Viatore and wait and go on a day with good visibility and get tickets at the monument base the day of.
Despite the weather being cloudy and the view obstructed, it was a memorable experience seeing what we could of DC from 500 feet in the air. The staff was helpful and thr grounds were very well-kept and safe.
I had a bad experience. After I bought and paid for the ticket I didn't receive it. The supplied phone number gives an automated response with no option to ask for the QR code ticket. I went to the Washington Monument anyway and was told these companies buy up the free tickets and sell them on. I was lucky to be able to get a free ticket at the window and got in anyway. After I was already in line to get in I received my paid for QR code which I didn't need anymore. So a lot of unnecessary stress and uncertainty due to the bad communication from this ticket company.
this was a scam and they didnt let me go up becasue they said i didnt have the right barcode to scan…
Didn’t even receive my tickets. This is a scam they charge me but never received a confirmation email or the tickets, I tried to reached out to customer service but never got resolved. You made my son sad he was looking forward to it. What a horrible experience. Don’t buy anything from this website.
Easy location to the DC Metro for our trip needs. Here for work and to meet up with family to live closer to DC.
Fantastic experience well worth the money whole family really enjoyed it
It makes it very convenient for last minute travelers like us
No waiting in line in our case. When you look through the viewing windows at the top, it is awe inspiring! Thank you.
I do not recommend this tour company. I wasnt able to get my tickets in time. Delivery through email is complicated and not transparent. Customer service is horrible, you cannot speak to a person. No refund was processed. A real scam! They charge for the tickets, that are originally for free from the national park service.
James was our tour guide and he did a great job. Very courteous. The only thing that wasn't completely five star was the pickup. I don't know that that was his fault. There just wasn't a clear place of where we were supposed to meet but once we got attached to him everything was great
I payed $80 for 4 tickets and the self tour guide, I was sent the tickets and and your guide, but the tickets were all copies of the first one. So only 1 of the 4 tickets scanned. The park ranger told me that we were scammed by the company.
Was told it’s a free visit and viator books up all the tickets to prevent tourist from getting them for free… It’s a scam on your part! This is directly from the Park Rangers!
It is amazing. I've been to DC numerous times but this was my first time up in the Washington Monument
Easy to purchase and find the location. No need to pick up tickets, can use the recreation.gov website for the official tickets. Helped in a pinch when all of the NPS ticket times were sold out when we were in town. View is awesome. Teen kids loved the experience.
Booking was easy! Loved the Washington monument l!
Awesome views, lot of security. Very easy fast ride up, you can see the whole city from above. I will recommend.
Wonderful visit ad. Super easy ticket process. We were a little early and the staff let us into an earlier tour. Glad we did this. Less hassle than trying to get tickets online at the official site for sure
Very easy to use. We got our tickets the day before via email and had them in time to enjoy the monument. It worked perfectly!
Seeing DC from a sky high view was great! When we arrived at 11:00, all of the free tickets were given out. We were able to walk right in and get on the elevator! It isn’t easy getting around DC, so having to get there early to get tickets and come back later would have been difficult. I had tweezers in my bag that wasn’t allow in, so I had to hid them by a flag pole before I could get in the elevator. Nail clippers were also denied, please be aware of these rules.
Monument was closed for maintenance
I was texted on the way there that the Monument was closed for maintenance. Can NOT believe that y'all weren’t aware of this earlier. Disappointed.
We got to the Washington Monument to find it closed for the day. There was no warning of this from the tour operator. So we lost out not only on the admission costs but the travel costs to and from the Monument. I shall be asking for a full refund.
The monument was closed for repairs I arrived there and called the number viator gave me and left a message, and still have not received a call back regarding my refund.
When they close for some reason they don’t tell you. We trekked all of the way there to only find out our tickets were no good. You lose your $1 per person.
The Washington monument was closed for a special event the day of our scheduled ticketed tour. We went back day 2, the monument was again closed for maintenance. We went back day 3 and it was still closed. Never got to use our two prepaid tickets. Can you please refund our ticket cost? (Tried to go 9/29, 9/30 and 10/1).
I need a refund. The monument was closed for repairs.
Disappointed, the monument was closed for 3 days. We never got a chance to see it.
I booked tickets the Washington monument, for me and my two boys we get there at it is closed. I wouldn’t book anything from them.
Well worth good, excellent experience to go up inside it. Staff with most excellent with their knowledge on the obvers.
Washington monument closed today due to electrical issue. Very difficult to contact Viator. When I finally did reach a person they said they did not have this information so they could not refund my money. I have a picture showing closed sign but don’t know where to send it.
Viator cancelled at short notice due to Chinese presidents visit. We presume. I want my money back please very disappointed
I booked a tour for the Washington monument. After I was charged for the tour, I got a notification that the monument was closed. I tried calling to rebook or get a refund, but I couldn’t get human on the phone. At the end of the day I didn’t get the tour and they charged me for it.
It's unfair that 3rd party vendors are able to grab tickets that are supposed to be free to the public.
Never got email with QR code so had to beg to get entry. Wasted $20 and almost lost chance to get in.
Great views from on top. You are able to spend as much time as you like. Great tour.
I never received the required QR code. Couldn’t get in. Tried the NY number with no help. Waste of money.
Elevator is not operational. Was not able to do the tour I paid for. I was there and waiting for hours. No refunds for something that is not my fault is rediculous!!!!!!!
It was a great way to ensure we got tickets to go in the Washington Monument since the tickets can be challenging to obtain. The views from the top were amazing and it was a cool experience. Just a little FYI-The instructions tell you to go to a different location to obtain your actual tickets but you end up getting a link to them in the app (not email) which the rangers at the entrance helped me figure out. All in all great!
Elevator is not working. Unable to do tour. The monument is worth seeing but trying to do the tour is risking
My ticket was not valid when I came to the entrance. I had to call TripAdvisor to get mye ticket with a QR code. I believe I had a valid ticket but the one I had with a barcode is not valid to get in. Make sure you have a QRcode on your ticket. The view from the top was fantastic.
Perfect! When the initial website didn’t have availability, you guys did! I appreciate the guide brochure. Easy asses to tickets and a confirmation email was sent right away.
