We walked with an amazing tour guide who was so knowledgeable about the history and tiniest details of Georgetown. She knew neighborhood tidbits from doing this for so many years and talking to its citizens. It was delightful.

Itinerary
The port Georgetown goes back centuries and is today know for its cobblestone streets, historic homes and gardens, and is seen as a shopping and dining district. Exploring the area on foot is the best way to go back in time and enjoy the park like atmosphere with all of its old brick and greenery.
The historic canal through the industrial section of Georgetown, guests will learn about the canal boats and see a working "lock" (gate) the helped the boats travel to and from along the canal.
Certainly one of the oldest buildings in the entire city, this quaint spot is run by the National Parks Service and has a lovely garden to sit and take a rest in. Built in 1766, it was a car dealership by 1953 when it was taken over for historic preservation. Now it is ours to enjoy and remember a simpler time when tobacco and tall tales traded at the nearby port.
See one of many homes associated with the Kennedy family, who lived in nearly a dozen different homes in the neighborhood.
Founded in 1789, this prestigious Jesuit University is know far and wide for its medical, legal, and undergraduate programs. See the towering spires of the Patrick Healy building and the statue of founder John Carrol. On a warm day students will lounge in the grass out front throwing frisbees, reading, and socializing.
We end the tour near the Exorcist Steps, a historic stairway that became famous thanks to the 1970s film of the same name.
A Georgetown institution, this restaurant has been locally owned since 1933. The dark wood panels, black and white photos on the wall, and the regulars at the bar give this place a certain sense of nostalgia and ambiance. The classic American fare keeps people coming back year after year with both indoor and outdoor seating

This was a very interesting and informative tour! A fun way to discover little known facts about this beautiful part of the city. Becca was a delightful and knowledgeable guide who is very enthusiastic about her fantastic hometown. I also appreciated receiving communication with contact and location details the day before and day of the tour. Highly recommended!
We enjoyed the walking tour and Becca’s knowledge made it very interesting. She went out of her way to answer any questions. We had a difficult time finding the meeting location and ran a few minutes late. She was very understanding especially since there was a Marathon going on.
Our guide, Vicky, was fantastic! She was very informative and a great presenter! The Georgetown tour was awesome!
Excellent and informative walking tour.
Becca the tour guide was very lovely and informative. Answered all questions with a smile. Pointing out the lovely historical houses and the little secrets of Georgetown. We enjoyed and recommend the tour.
Colin, our very knowledgeable guide, was loud and clear about the whole of Georgetown’s interesting life. Excellent
Georgia was a phenomenal tour guide! Thoroughly enjoyed our experience on the Georgetown tour. Great mix of architecture, history, politics, and local government.
This was such a good experience, Georgia our guide was very witty and so informative! I would highly highly recommend this tour!
Katherine was a wealth of knowledge and an amazing guide. She made the tour fun, interesting and educational.
A very interesting tour of the historic area of Georgetown. Ingeborg, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly. She told some amusing stories of some of the inhabitants of the historic homes in the heart of Georgetown.
Georgia did a great job! She was very knowledgeable about the area. We did walk for about 2 hours but nothing too difficult!
It was great to have a guide show us around this lovely neighborhood. Good walk and a nice introduction to DC.
Ingeborg was a great guide. She walked us through much of Georgetown and was able to retell so much of history.
Vickie was very knowledgeable and made the for fun.
Really enjoyed this tour, this is a beautiful area and Vicky was a very knowledgeable and entertaining guide; it was a great way to get to know Georgetown!
Great tour. Good time. I recommend it.
Brilliant and entertaining tour. Great guide Ingebourg brought the history of Georgetown to life. We also learned a lot about Washington in general. Best tour we had in Washington!
The Georgetown tour was one of my favorite tours ever. Our guide Ingeborg not only provided a ton of historical information, she also made it very entertaining. The proof was even teenage daughter commented on how much she enjoyed the tour.
Inga was fantastic! Extremely interesting tour with tons of facts, history, and fascinating stories. Well worth it!
Well-informed, well presented, and humorous. Don't need to say anymore. Curious that there is a minimum on comments.
Katherine was great and a lot of fun to hang out with. Great discussions about the history, the people and the architecture of the area. Highly recommend the tour and Katherine.
Our tour guide Becca was absolutely fantastic. She was extremely knowledgeable and approachable. I have taken many historic walking tours over the years, in various cities, and I would highly recommend this one with Becca.
Becca was a great tour guide. She was informative, knowledgeable, pleasant, and kept a good pace. Definitely recommend!
Becca was an excellent tour guide. Her knowledge of the area past and present was impressive. Everything was as advertised. Length of walking tour and the variety of sights was perfect. 5 star!
Our guide was knowledgeable on the subject matter at hand. She was conscientious of the summer heat and found a shady spot to park us. The next time I visit I will book a tour with more emphasis placed on the architecture of the homes.
We did the tour with Ingeborg. She was born and raised in Georgetown, and it shows through her love for the neighborhood and depth of knowledge. We had only six persons in our group tour, so it was comfortable. Ingeborg was outstanding. She was knowledgeable with a great sense of humor and timing as she told us history and insider scoops on historical Georgetown. The tour is well conceived and well-paced to allow us to see important historical buildings and multiple architectural styles. We have traveled to 50 countries and done many city historical walking tours. This is one of the best we have done.
I’ve been on some great tours but I can honestly say this has been my favorite by far. Wayne was so knowledgeable and funny. There wasn’t a moment during the two hour tour that I wasn’t engaged. Couldn’t recommend going on this tour enough!
Wesley was an excellent tour guide! We were able to see a couple of JFK's places plus the staircase from The Exorcist. **Could Viator please adjust the starting point for this tour? I copy/pasted the address from Viator into the Uber app and was given the wrong location. The starting point is between 30th and Thomas Jefferson somewhere near The Old Stone House. Not at The Old Stone House...just near it. Please confirm with tour guides. Thank you!
Interesting tour around Georgetown with history and local information including places to visit and eat
Tour guide Colin was very knowledgeable. Experience was great. We all enjoyed the Georgetown Walking Tour.
Don’t get me wrong, there was much to see and learn during this hot day in August. I do think it would be better with the use of a microphone and ear buds. The talking as we walked was difficult to hear. Much of those conversations were between the guide and one or two guests but others were left out of hearing what was being said but I know interesting things were being talked about. I would have enjoyed more history of past and current events in Georgetown. There were periods of long walks where nothing was being said I kept thinking, “this is Georgetown, there has to be more to it than what we are learning”. Lots of walking on a hot day. The town could use a few sidewalk benches. This may be a tour best done by an electric vehicle like we rode on a night tour of DC. The guide was good but I just think he has more knowledge of history than we were getting. Make the questions and answers being asked by the guests known to all.
Colin was a fantastic guide! Very knowledgeable and his love for the city is evident by the way he gives his tour. He was very mindful of the heat, always finding shady spots and even letting us take a water break at a local cafe. All in all we had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back to take Colin's other tours! Much love, Brendan and Mykaela from Salem, Massachusetts <3
Very hot and tiring but well worth the effort. Bring a lot of water if you’re walking in the summer. Katherine was very knowledgeable and quite delightful to tour with.
wayne was an excellent tour guide. he was very knowledgeable about the area and keep the group entertained.
Awesome experience. Engaging guide (thanks Katherine!) who was knowledgeable and funny! We learned a lot about the history of the area and specific homes on the tour. Highly recommend.
Great tour. Lots of interesting information. Wonderful guide Becca with a very energetic and fun way to deliver all the interesting things
My mom and I had a wonderful time on this tour with Vicky! She was so knowledgeable, charismatic, and attentive to our group, which made the experience even more enjoyable. We highly recommend supporting this local female owned company and we would definitely love to tour with them again to have another amazing time!
Fun glimpse into historic Georgetown, Vicky is great, funny and communicative
Though the weather was very hot and humid, our guide tried her best to keep us in the shade as much as possible. She was both entertaining and knowledgeable. We learned many things we had not heard before, some of them very salty. lol I would highly recommend this tour to others.
Vicky was a great tour guide and knowledgeable about Georgetown! She incorporated some of her own favorites which made the tour better
The guide was very informative but this survey stinks that I have to leave a minimum of 100 characters.
Interesting storytelling about past and current inhabitants of the area. Billed as a tour that included information on architecture of which there was none.
This tour was absolutely amazing and very well organized. Our guide, Georgia, was highly informative and shared a lot of interesting tidbits that you wouldn't find in a regular guidebook. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would definitely do it again. If you are visiting Washington for the first time, I highly recommend booking a tour with Georgia!
This your was so fun and REALLY interesting! Everyone in our party loved it and the ages spanned from 17 to 83
Great all around, fantastic time, highly recommend.
Wayne did a wonderful job explaining the history of the Georgetown area with amusing anecdotal stories. We especially appreciated the story about stubby the dog. Wayne is very knowledgeable as well as being an entertaining guide. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting the DC area.
Our guide, Vicky from DC by Foot Tours, was fantastic! Knowledgeable, funny, friendly, and kind enough to find shade on a sweltering June morning whenever she could! She had a lot of fascinating stories about the buildings and people of the historic Georgetown neighborhood. Highly recommend!
Colin was an excellent guide. Very interesting and knowledgeable about Georgetown in general. I would highly recommend him.
Rebecca was awesome, interesting and informative with a great sense of humor! Highly recommend this tour
