Mount Vernon was fabulous. The experience with our guide was terrible. I hate to give bad reviews, but he was a very dangerous driver and I was worried for our safety. I would not want someone else to have that experience. He was also not friendly with all of the riders and was rude and sarcastic. He was late, picking us up to go to Mount Vernon and was late picking us up on the return. We were not able to get his name.

The entire experience started off poorly when the first driver filled up his van without even letting us know he was there and what tour he represented despite us standing there. Then another van arrived and it was the weirdest tour experience ever. My son and I immediately deduced the driver had been drinking by his demeanor and way he was operating the vehicle. He kept taking his hands off the wheel, driving under the speed limit, stopping mid green stop light in traffic to chat and generally all over the road! We were genuinely afraid to get back in the van to return. Had to spend $50 for a uber to return to DC. Viator refused to refund the money after saying they would. The other driver was supposed to hand us the tickets and Left before doing so. Mount Vernon itself was interesting but don’t see it through this company.
I had a wonderful experience which I will never forget. It was great.
Lots to see in a short time (3hrs). Must see the house, tomb, grounds, & museum. Should also eat at Mt Vernon Inn Restaurant, very good.
I am only 4’ 8” tall so I had a really hard time getting into the van. The air was not working in the main house so it ended up being really hot in there.
Robert was a fantastic driver from sharing historical things and pointing out monuments and info to and from mount Vernon to helping in and out of van. The Mt Vernon was most educational and a siteline to more of who Washington was and the character he had to his wife and the strong woman she was, to his leadership choosing the right people at the right time to get him to where he wanted to go. Aristocrat, yet down to earth… literally 5 farms. A step father, a man not threatened by a strong woman, chosen for the job of President! it was a great thing to experience at least once.
Extreme disappointed and angry. I was under the impression that the tour included a guide the entire time. We did not take the van because of driving in and when we meet the group it was give us the tickets we bought and sent us on are way. No information giving and no personal touch at all. We paid 90 per ticket for nothing. Should have just bought a ticket on site. May better price. Not even a mention of any history and no discount for not riding in the van. I would never recommend this tour to anyone.
With the exception of the house tour, touring Mt. Vernon was pretty much on our own. A lot of walking, but very interesting. The drive there was conducted by a man who gave commentary along the way. We learned a bit about the town of Arlington. His talk was quite interactive with the passengers which might be annoying to some. Overall, an interesting tour.
Visiting Mount Vernon was one of the highlights of our trip to Washington, D.C. The estate is absolutely beautiful, well maintained, and rich in history, making it a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the area. Our bus driver was excellent—knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about sharing the history of George Washington and his home. The entire experience was well organized, informative, and enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a memorable and educational experience.
The bus used was clean however it rattled extensively on the road and the air conditioner was minimal. The guide was nice but at times hard to understand. Would recommend seeing the movies and the mansion as priority because you don't have enough time at the end to watch the movie.
It was a below average experience with little amenities for $99, including the vehicle and misplaced driver comments. I would not recommend this Viator tour to most folks; the company did not even have my name for a reserved and paid for reservation.
We made reservations on Thursday for a Friday tour of Mount Vernon at 2 and they never showed up.No call, no text !! Waited almost 1 hour.Emailed, called but no return calls or acknowledgement of problem. If you have a choice use another company.
Best experience in our trip. Beautiful scenery and tranquil views. My kids loved it. You cannot miss it.
Mount Vernon was amazing. I just wish we had more time to see evrrything there. We missed so much because our time ran out. Bobby was an excellent driver and narrator of our our drive.
It should be titled "Half-day tour of Washington DC and Alexandria, with a stop at Mount Vernon." Our guide, Robert, was great on Alexandria and DC, but did not accompany us through Mt. Vernon.
Bobby was our tour guide. He was very informative. He was constantly pointing things out for us to see the entire way. He was fun and answered any question we asked. We highly recommend Bobby as a tour guide! The entire experience was excellent.
I booked the 9 am trip to Mt Vernon. That trip was cancelled because they did not have enough people. I cancelled rather than taking the 11 am that was offered due to other plans. I am awaiting my full refund.
We could have spent all day! The house 🏠 s very interesting and the grounds even more so. Wish we could have gotten over to the distillery, but didn’t, and only had time to do a quick walk through of the museum. We’ll be back! We really appreciated the stop at Christ Church in Alexandria - good addition!
Van drive seemed a bit longer than it should take. Guide did offer some historic information, he was friendly. Definitely not enough time at Mount Vernon.
Driver was great. Very knowledgable and helpful. He made the drive very pleasant. The time allowed at mt Vernon was perfect.
Definitely get the ticket to see inside the house. We enjoyed the gardens. The restaurant food was good with great service.
Excellent tour and wonderful guide - very knowledgeable! He accommodated our large group and was very patient.
I cant really leave a review. The tour was cancelled without notice. I found out 15 minutes after i was due to be picked up
The tour bus driver was so nice and extremely knowledgeable. He made the ride two and from Mount Vernon so enjoyable.
An amazing place to visit. Would 100% recommend the place to anyone in the area, and the tour guide was very friendly and informative. Was nice to not have to worry about driving ourselves and it was cool to hear all the facts and stories our guide knew along the way.
Although this trip is shown as a five hour trip, we only ended up having 3 hours at Mount Vernon and this is not enough time to see everything, saying that, due to renovations we could only see one room in the house and this is what we’d paid to see. I feel this should be brought to attention in the trip details as it’s not a quick fix & will be ongoing for a long time. The minibus we were travelling in had a number of broken seatbelts, not satisfactory in this day & age. This trip was not cheap and we feel that we have not had value for money. Very disappointed.
It was great…. Do it. Well worth the money and time. Beautiful sites. I would do it again if I had the opportunity
This is Not the time to visit Mr Vernon! It’s going through a full renovation and we were limited to seeing the house. What areas we were allowed was nice. The person impersonating Martha was incredible! Our guide that drove us to Mr Vernon “Rick” was enjoyable and full of knowledge about Washington DC and surrounding areas.
Right now MtVernon is going through a major renovation. You could only really see 1 room of the home. This was a major disappointment. Our tour guide Robert did a good job and was very knowledgeable.
The driver/guide was very annoying. He badgered the other guests about details about the tour they took the day before for half the drive. The other half he pointed out road signs and let us know if we were in residential or commercial areas. Absolutely useless as a guide. Do not recommend this tour. Rent a car and drive yourself.
The drive to Mount Vernon was a short jaunt from Washington, DC, and I highly recommend it. Our driver did not use air conditioning, which was uncomfortable for those in the back. I expected the guide to give more Washington history and background, and he left us as soon as he deposited us in the theater. The price was steep for the quality of the van and guide.
Mt Vernon was good. The bus was very uncomfortable. We were bouncing around a lot!!! Not enough time to enjoy the location.
The driving was dangerous and aggressive. We did not care for the driver’s personality and he was late picking us up.
The grounds are nice. Unfortunately the house is being renovated and if we had known ahead of time we would have gone on another tour
About 2% of Mt Vernon home open to viewing. Wait until reconstruction completed. Reconstruction was noted in booking but was way more than what review said.
Excellent driver. But, there was not enough time to see the entire estate. By the time we finished with the home tour, we were rushed to get back on the bus.
Washington’s home is under restoration. We only were able to see one room in home. Very disappointed. The grounds are beautiful and out building very interesting.
I booked the Mt. Vernon tour through All Washington View, but the tour was actually done by Loba Tours. Washington View advertised it as from 11 AM to 5 PM, but once we got to Mt. Vernon we were told we would depart there at 3 PM. We returned to the Hyatt Regency at 4 PM, so our entire tour was shorted by one hour. The Loba Tours website says it's a 5 hour tour (11 to 4), but Washington View advertises it as a 6 hour tour (11 to 5). Other than that, it was a nice, but abbreviated tour. Not worth the price.
Excursion said 9-2. Didn’t specify we would be dropped off at the site at 10am for travel time and then picked up and 12:30pm to head back. 2.5 hrs to tour the place is definitely not enough. You won’t even have time to have lunch. Bobby was great!
Five minutes late and they were gone. No one answered the phone. Did the tour even take place or was it a scam? Later response was you can re-book another day which of course conflicted with other reservations. I do not trust this group.
Don’t go to mount vernon while it is under renovation. Not a lot to see if the mansion (which is the main focal point) is closed.
Mount Vernon is the destination and getting yourself directly there allow’s the proper time needed to visit this American treasure.
The Viator “tour” amounted to transportation to and from Mount Vernon with condescending background chatter from the driver that passed for area highlights. Not enough time at Mount Vernon (which was interesting, though undergoing extensive reparations until 2026). With tip, the day cost $225. Had we taken a cab and gone by ourselves, it would have run about $170 and we would have had more time at the site. I recommend YOU do that.
Take your time and walk the beautiful grounds. The museum was much bigger than expected so be sure to visit it.
Great time - loved Alexandria and seeing Christ Church. Warm comfortable van. Friendly tour guide. Would highly recommend!
It was fun to visit Mount Vernon, but this experience could be done very easily and much cheaper by hiring an Uber. The excursion did include tickets to Mt Vernon and to the mansion, but our driver just stood in line to purchase these and handed them to us which we could have done for ourselves. The vehicle also didn't seem to be in very good shape. The driver was polite and gave us some information, but definitely not worth what we paid.
Lovely driver, great history and nice weather. We love it. The car was little old and the road little bumpy.
Did not feel safe in the vehicle. Tour operator and said done at 4:30 instead it was 5:45 making us late to next to next tour.
Was supposed to hacmve the half day tour at 11am instead they gave us the 2.5 hr tour at 2pm. Needed more time.
Bobby our tour guide was very friendly and entertaining during the long ride to the mansion It was a very hot day which made walking the grounds difficult
